In Russia, according to statistics, about half of the country's population celebrates the Old New Year, gathering around the festive table.
The Old New Year came into our culture together with the old style of chronology.
In 1918, the Bolshevik government decided to change the calendar. Tsarist Russia lived according to the Julian calendar, and Europe according to the Gregorian calendar. The first was created in the Roman Empire and was based on ancient Egyptian astronomy. The Gregorian calendar was more accurate, it was created in the 16th century taking into account the latest knowledge about the structure of the universe. The difference between the two systems of calculation was 13 days and created inconveniences for conducting international political and economic affairs and led to funny incidents in everyday life. For example, according to the dates on postmarks, it turned out that a telegram was received in Europe several days earlier than it was sent in Russia.
The transition to the Western European calendar took place on February 14, 1918. According to the decree, the main goal of the entire project was "to establish in Russia the same calendar as almost all cultural nations." An unusual holiday also appeared - the Old New Year, that is, the New Year according to the old style, which was not forgotten by the people. However, the Old New Year was not celebrated as widely as the night from December 31 to January 1.
CMXD554: Patient was successfully rescued from the damaged ship. Body was badly damaged, Race of unknown origin. Attempts to reconstruct have been successful due to DNA configuration and cloning. A major terrorist incident occurred in the city in 1913, which led to the deaths of two men. During the suffragette bombing and arson campaign of 1912–1914, militant suffragettes of the Women's Social and Political Union carried out a series of politically motivated bombing and arson attacks nationwide as part of their campaign for women's suffrage. In one of the more serious suffragette attacks, a fire was purposely started at Portsmouth dockyard on 20 December 1913, in which two sailors were killed after it spread through the industrial area.
On Wednesdays 4014 chase across central Texas a moment of chaos unfolded. After the gates dropped, what I can only describe as a large individual with absolutely zero common sense and respect crossed in front of the train and over the tracks right in front of a 20 person photo line. He proceeded to give the finger to us as he crossed. After the train went by he was verbally berated by many individuals. He then quickly made his exit from the scene. This became what is known to many of us friends as..."The Harwood Incident"

The largest swallow in North America. Despite its name, the purple martin is not truly purple. The dark blackish-blue feathers have an iridescent sheen caused by the diffraction of incident light giving them a bright blue to navy blue or deep purple appearance. In some light, they may even appear green in color.

Just west of Glencoe, 261 comes to a crawl and is soon to stop in a few moments to reverse back east. That biker guy in the previous photo at Glencoe apparently wasn't happy with me and yelled at me to watch where I'm going at this spot, despite him cutting me off and driving his bike on sidewalks and trails that don't allow it. Some people huh?

Yr Wyddfa (Welsh name for Snowdon) is the highest peak in Wales & England. I ache in places that I didn't know could ache.
In 1991, when I broke my neck the first time, I was told that I would never walk without assistance. I've broken my neck again since then, as well as my back twice - vertebrae C3-5, T7-9 & L3-5. I also survived a stroke 10 years ago. I've had to learn to walk twice from these incidents but I've been lucky in that my Spinal Cord has remained intact.
It just goes to show that almost anything is possible if we're resilient and determined.
If anyone says you can't, tell them you can.
If anyone says you won't, shout at them that you will.
