It's been awhile since I posted a picture of one of my children. I'm acutely aware that portraits are not as popular on Flickr. I've even had some well meaning messages sent to my Flickr inbox telling me I would have better success in choosing one or the other to post. I suppose this is true... I started an Instagram page for the sole purpose of landscapes @rachelbrokawphotography
but Flickr has and probably will always be a way of just sharing my favorite pictures no matter what they are. So I hope this doesn't bother anyone but there will always probably be sprinkles of my children mixed onto my Flickr page. So here's fair warning:) This picture is from a few days ago. It had stayed cloudy and cool but no lightning so I was willing to venture out into this open space. The trail curves through rolling hills before climbing to this large open space. The sun is front at this spot and perfect for cloudy days for the soft light. Elijah who is now 2, still has short legs that make it hard to keep up with all the hills. This Radio Flyer has came in handy on so many occasions. When we reached the top I pulled him into the field to quickly get this shot of the cloudy skies and gentle light in the clouds. I love using my 85mm for the soft bokeh it brings and also so I can back up further away so he forgets I'm even taking pictures. I love it when that happens!! There is a fire that is in somewhat close proximity - not dangerously so but enough to have smokey air. Makes my heart sad to see all the fires again in Colorado. This also meant a fire ban was in place for 4th of July in most places. I hope this coming Winter yields more moisture and that this dry trend stops somehow. Many of my favorite areas are currently on fire. Prayers and good thoughts for rain are much appreciated. Me and the kids have terrible colds and will probably spend the weekend at home with the AC blasting catching up on favorite movies haha. Sending much love to each one of you. Thank you as always for taking the time to read my thoughts and support me on my photography adventure!
xx

I never clean out my inbox.. at one point I had over 500 unread flickr mails LOL right now I have 91 :P
That's right kids, this used to be the only way you got ANY mail!
I might be dating myself with this shot but for me this is and was the only way you got any sort of mail. Think about it, how else can you possibly put a cherry bomb in someone's mail box?
This was shot up in Madrid, New Mexico. Madrid is an artist colony of sorts, at least it was when we were there. They're famous for the ending of the film Wild Hogs (2007) being set and filmed in the town and in the 1976 film The Man Who Fell To Earth, starring David Bowie the miners' houses on New Mexico Highway 14 can be seen.
Madrid used to be a company owned mining town and the Belinda Vasquez Garcia's novel, The Witch Narratives: Reincarnation (2012), is set in Madrid during the 1920s and 1930s.
Cool place to stop and have a Chai while you reinvigorate your Chi!
I didn't plan this photo. I had the brick wall from another photo, where I just experimenting with lighting. I had the wall on a table, planning to disassemble when I noticed window light cast a checkerboard like pattern, via shadows on the table. So built a back wall and assembled some minifigs for chess pieces.
There are things I wish came out better, but I was happy with the serendipity that led to the photo.

If a woman rebels against high-heeled shoes, she should take care to do it in a very smart hat” George bernard shaw.
this actually turned out unfortunate. I met him, after he left a very nice compliment in my inbox while I was afk. we had some conversation, spent hours chatting actually. and I actually thought that things were going well.
fast forward less than 24 hours later.
as it turns out... he had some extremely harsh opinions of my adult themed photos, and some of the comments he said hurt me very very badly, and I don't agree with that.
my photos are an expression. if I want to have some naughty time fun that's my business. if I want to share it with the world again my business my choice. the fact that I'm being judged for this, pisses me off.
never ever feel guilty about wanting to have fun. of expressing yourself. in any way shape or form. if you want to run around sucking my butt naked and take photos of it and post it on the freaking ceiling in every freaking room your house do it. if you want to post them on flicker do it. don't care what other people say.
yes I am guilty of caring because some of his comments were hurtful. and the worst part is, he thinks it's okay to say what he did. I am not cheap. and I think the fact that he said that was ignorant, rude, cruel. it was just wrong.
and if he is reading this right now, try thinking about what you say before you actually say it. what you did was wrong. and I don't forgive easily. despite what some people seem to think.
