Late afternoon at Imperial Sand Dunes Recreation Area in the far southeast of California near Brawley (just along Ben Hulse Highway 78).
These dunes are regularly used with OHV's for spectacular fun rides.
When I was there a strong wind swept over the dunes, so that the lanes were blown away quickly.

Wulingyuan - Imperial Writing Brush Peaks. One of the best known formations in the park, seen from the summit of Tianzi mountain.
Accepted at 3rd Metropolitan International Photographic Exhibition and the 2018 PSA Internation Exhibition.
I can't remember where I took this photo, it was in central London, so I don't know which statue is that.
The exhibits are coming from the personal collection of the emperors of the forbidden city in central Beijing, China. The forbidden city, a World Heritage Site of UNESCO, is an imperial palace complex, constructed from 1406 to 1420, consisting of 980 buildings in traditional Chinese palatial architecture, which has influenced cultural developments in East Asia and elsewhere.
The collections of the Palace Museum are based on the Qing imperial collection. Today, there are over a million rare and valuable works of art in the permanent collection of the Palace Museum, including paintings, ceramics, seals, steles, sculptures, inscribed wares, bronze wares, enamel objects, etc.
The photo was taken in the context of the exhibition "Forbidden City: The Private Rooms of Emperor Qianlong.” at Acropolis Museum.

Goslar/Harz GER
The Imperial Palace of Goslar (German: Kaiserpfalz Goslar) is a historical building complex at the foot of the Rammelsberg hill in the south of the town of Goslar north of the Harz mountains, central Germany. It covers an area of about 340 by 180 metres. The palace grounds originally included the Kaiserhaus, the old collegiate church of St. Simon and St. Jude, the palace chapel of St. Ulrich and the Church of Our Lady (Liebfrauenkirche). The Kaiserhaus, which has been extensively restored in the late 19th century, was a favourite imperial residence, especially for the Salian emperors.
SAKERTOUR Hide in Hungary Hortobagy NP. I spent c. 7 hours waiting for cranes. The Eagle on picture apeared after 4 pm. and next spent over 1h on tree far from the hide - after 5 pm - the light become great dusk coming soon it finally decided to land in the pool of the hide. Next happened 45 minutes of photographic creaziness at it was bathing and jumping & flying around :)
One of those rare times when there were no container ships unloading here so I could get just the walkers.
The way I have heard it is, Lucas was being driven across the Bay Bridge when he saw the cranes at the Port of Oakland and started sketching them. They became the walkers. I don't know if it's true, but it is a fine tale.
Oakland, California.
Eacles imperialis. The species was first described by Dru Drury in 1773. Habitat is from Maine west to eastern Nebraska, south to the Florida Keys and central Texas. Imperial moths have also been known by other common names (e.g., great-plane tree moth [Smith 1797] and yellow emperor [Stratton-Porter 1921. This specimen measured 100mm (4 in.) wingtip to wing tip
Vista de la escalera imperial del Alcázar de Toledo.
El estilo arquitectónico del Alcázar no me gusta demasiado, pero las líneas de la escalera me llamaron muchísimo la atención.
Loved the taillights and fins on this 1961 Chrysler Imperial. The reflections were curved with the large fin. One of my favorites at the Geneva Concours d'Elegance this year.
Falkland Islands, Sea Lon Island
The instinct to feed and care for their young is particularly strong in birds. It was fantastic to watch this behavior in action throughout the seabird colonies wherever we were in the Falklands.
Taken Steppe Plains, Toledo Province, Talavera de la Reina, Spain.
Rare eagle breeding only in Spain and Portugal, with some immatures dispersing into North Africa. Very similar to the closely-related Imperial Eagle, but is darker overall and adults have a distinctive white leading wing edge on the shoulders which can been seen from below when flying. Juveniles are rufous and largely unstreaked on the upperwings, underwings, and the breast compared to the heavily streaked Imperial Eagles. Mostly found in remote forested landscapes, especially those with a high density of rabbits. (reference from e.bird )
Imperial Fritillaries are beautiful flowers but they smells awful. Their scent is often described as foxy or skunky and I really recommend to stay at a safe distance from them. Apparently it's that scent which repels mice, moles or even deer and that may be one of the reasons why I so often see these plants in parks.

Leucocarbo atriceps (Imperial Cormorant or White-bellied Cormorant) is a marine cormorant species distributed along the southern coasts of South America, including Argentina, Chile, and the Falkland Islands. It is characterized by black dorsal plumage, white ventral areas, blue orbital skin, and pinkish feet. In Uruguay, the species is considered a rare visitor, with occasional records primarily along the Atlantic coast during the austral winter.
In July 2025, a juvenile Leucocarbo atriceps was observed resting on the intertidal rocky platform at Playa El Emir, near the Virgin of Candelaria monument in Punta del Este, Maldonado Department. The bird was seen among individuals of Nannopterum brasilianum and displayed immature plumage typical of its age. Leucocarbo atriceps is a species rarely recorded in Uruguay, making this observation particularly noteworthy.

Today's theme is "Postcards from Beijing". This shot was taken on a beautiful sunny day in the Chinese capital, en route to the Summer Palace. As the name implies, the Imperial Waterway was once the waterway for the Emperor Qianlong (1735-1796 AD) of the Qing Dynasty (1644 - 1911 AD) to go to the Summer Palace.
The Summer Palace is a vast ensemble of lakes, gardens and palaces in Beijing. It was an imperial garden during the Qing dynasty.
Phaleanopsis
Pat's advice to place them in the kitchen was a great help! They seem to love it there! I'm very grateful!
