The first "whisper" in the book I @art_by_charles_ am making tells the story of GEMMA a ginger-root-gnome. She lives in Root End which can be found in βChestnut Hollowβ which lies in the southeastern neighbourhood of the Whispering Woodling Woods. Together with her little mouse-piggy DOT and her carrot hug ORA, she experiences many exciting adventures.

[New work 2024] @art_by_charles_ This illustration shows a few magical inhabitants of The Whispering Woodling Woods belonging to the first story 'Gemma's Dream Wish'. NB On the far right is Primrose, a hedgehog faerie. One of the many mixed animal and faerie/pixie species of the Woodling Woods. It all started thirty years (!) ago with this hedgehog faerie, in 1994.
Materials: ballpoint sketch drawing and watercolor on paper, then edited and colored with Photoshop watercolor pencil/brush.

"The ginger root gnome usually keeps one or more mouse piggies as a companion/pet. The little pig likes to help the gnome look for special roots and fungi, among other things. However, vigilance is required, because the animal prefers to consume all the tasty finds itself. Her sense of smell is a hundred times more developed than that of the ginger root gnome, which is also sixty times more developed than that of humans. The mouse pig loves 'belly rubs' and loves to lie down on her side for this. She happily wags her tail when she sees her owner again.
Dot, Gemma's mouse pig, is a descendant of the Lil' pOtbellie pig, who is born in a tuber underground. She owes her name to her favorite scarf which is made from a leftover polka dot fabric from Gemma's homemade dress."

"A ginger root gnome is called a ginger gnome for short. A ginger gnome family as shown below usually has four to eight members. An adult specimen (250 years old) measures no more than eight centimeters in length. His skin color varies from ginger beige, yellow to deep brown shades. In the drawing below, the parents are dressed in traditional costumes. However, today's ginger gnome increasingly dresses in camouflage clothing. Just like headgear and footwear, this is often made from animal and vegetable material. This is mainly due to the recent re-introduction of the Wild Wurf, a very dangerous wolf-like predator that includes ginger gnomes on its menu."

Finally I found the peace and inspiration to start with a long -held wish to make a picture book about a story that I came up with years ago with my oldest sister Joanβ . It is about "the whispering woodling woods" and the creatures that live there. In addition to making new creations from clay (and later in resin), I will be busy with my old loves in the near future, namely making illustrations of my own fantasy world and of my favorite animal; the pig. I am also writing the accompanying story. Because this is a special and dear project for me, I made a new Insta account for this @art_by_charles_ where I would like to share drawings and the progress of the book with you.
Caption: May I introduce you to the protagonists of the first story of the whispering woodling woods: Gemma is a ginger root gnome and a niece of Nana Jahe. Dot is a mouse-piggy, Gemma's loyal pet.

"We are in the area of the Woolly Bumblebee Bears (NONIKUMA, subspecies of the Woodling Faeries). These are small bumblebee bear faeries, which are only visible during the full moon! We call them the Luna Nights. And this is exactly such a moment !"
Gemma approached and saw, in a moonlit field among the yellow flowers, a lovely little creature with pleasant, round shapes like a woolly bear. Big, innocent and yet slightly mischievous eyes looked at Gemma questioningly. The creature was less than half a decimeter long. Despite the silvery moonlight, Gemma saw that the nonikuma's wings had the same pattern as those of a tiger moth. The bumblebee bear faerie spread its wings and broke away from Gemma's view.

The old Waringin witch; Wèwè is known for peeking into our world through these dangerous viewing trees. The old, hard-hearted witch can paralyze her prey with a single look. In addition, she masters age-old magic like no other and has claimed many victims with her spells and curses. She usually uses her magic to eat, and not infrequently, for fun, she enchants a stray mouse piglet and gives it the body of a quail chick...'

This illustration is part of a series of nudes I am working digitally. I created this one in watercolour, but will refine it in Illustrator and Photoshop.
"One night, the young Gaylibri ran away from home and was lovingly taken in by a group of songbirds, the birds you hear singing here! From their old, wise leader, the Song Master, Gaylibri learned that it is good to find yourself and to dare to be who you really are. He also learned to fly because that is what faeries and birds do. With a lot of patience he was trained by the Song Master. He even taught him to sing beautifully! This sounded different from the real birdsong there Gaylibri had no syrinx, the special singing instrument of birds. Yet there was no Firefly Faerie in the entire area that could sing as beautifully as Gaylibri. The boy fairy stayed with the birds so long and sang with them so often that his face developed a bird's beak. .. Ultimately, Gaylibri overcame his fear of speed and height and was able to fly like the best!"

200529: On Friday, May 29, 2020 we made a bicycle tour in Hamburg along the Elbe river. It is beautiful there, and we were surprised that there was not much more going on. At the Elbe beach at the lighthouse Wittenbergen we had a little break. We stopped in the beer garden of the Ahrberg restaurant in Blankenese both on the way there and back and drank non-alcoholic wheat beer with a 1A view of the Elbe.

200529: Am Freitag, dem 29. Mai 2020 unternahmen wir eine Radtour in Hamburg an der Elbe entlang. Es ist wunderschΓΆn da, und wir haben uns gewundert, dass nicht viel mehr los war. Am Elbstrand am Leuchtturm Wittenbergen machten wir eine kleine Pause. In den Biergarten des Ahrberg-Restaurants in Blankenese kehrten wir sowohl auf dem Hin- als auch auf dem RΓΌckweg ein und tranken alkoholfreies Hefeweizen mit 1A-Blick auf die Elbe.
