I would also like to take this time to thank all of you for your support. I may not always leave a comment and even when I do it's almost never very elaborate but please know it's the best I can do on that day. I think you are all brilliant and a constant source of amazement, inspiration and joy.

Stay safe!

Due to his illness Tofu has lost quite a lot of weight although you don't see it under all this fluff. He eats well again now and will hopefully be back to form soon. And he watches birds again which is something he didn't do when he felt poorly. For now he is not allowed to go out yet but I have started to put dried mealworms out on the terrace for the birds and Tofu sits at the window and enjoys the entertainment.

For Tongue Tuesday I add another capture of the birdwatcher in the comments.

Vaska and I thank everyone who worried about him during his illness. He is now healthy, only having lost his mane during the molt. But it will grow back by winter!

Thank you all for visits, faves and comments, it's greatly appreciated!

A red tulip for all my dear friends who were always there for me and supported me during my illness. I am grateful to everyone. I'm trying to pick up the Flickr thread ;-) again.

Thank you, thank you very much!

Buddha in parinirvana, Gandhara art, 2nd or 3rd century

Reclining Buddha of Galvihara at Polonnaruwa (Sri Lanka, 12th century)

A reclining Buddha is a statue that represents Buddha lying down and is a major iconographic and statuary pattern of Buddhism. It represents the historical Buddha during his last illness, about to enter the parinirvana[citation needed]. He is lying on the right flank, his head resting on a cushion or relying on his right elbow, supporting his head with his hand.

This pattern seems to have emerged at the same time as other representations of the Buddha in the Greco-Buddhist art of Gandhara.

The winter and the cold wave came to Switzerland.

With this picture I did not make it easy for me. At first I really could not decide which photo to put on flickr. I wrestled with myself, because I would like to present the most beautiful photo for my friends here. Secondly, the picture was made under very difficult external conditions, because it was really "bitterly cold". I could barely touch my hands after photographing and yet I wanted to get a nice photo of these beautiful ice crystals. I succeeded, more or less, because the background was not ideal for that. In addition, my faithful friend Roco had to wait for me and there I no longer want to start one try after another. This time I did not want to make any compromises with the warm colors of the picture, because the cold should be very touchable. I believe this has succeeded with this picture. I am fascinated by this "little work of art". Each little detail is a miracle of creation, because it was shaped by the elements of nature and radiates its brilliance as long as this nature allows.

I am grateful for these little things without which life would not be so beautiful and interesting.

Rejoice over the elements of nature.

Erwin

I thank you all for the interest and enthusiasm for my work here. I am happy about every comment from you and every time you like my pictures. Thank you very much for all the favorites and for watching my photos.

Small supplement of today:

The winter has caught up with me too, for I am terribly cold. Nevertheless, or just because of this, I am looking forward to every single word from you. Also, I always see in the little things, which makes the importance and beauty of life. Wish all of you a blessed time, without illness and with much love and joy. Hope you can all be in a nice warm place, because outside it is extremely cold here. Brrrrrr .....

The Former North Wales Hospital was built in 1844-8, to provide care for Welsh speaking people suffering from mental illnesses. It was extended in the 1860s and again in the 20th century and by 1956 there were 1500 patients. The Health Authority announced closure in 1987 and the last patient left in 1995. Since then, the abandoned site has fallen into a serious state of disrepair.

The main hospital building is Grade II* listed and is described as "an exceptionally fine and pioneering example of early Victorian asylum architecture".

For Maria! Thank you for spreading awareness of your illness and for being brave!! You are amazing....<3!!!!!!

Things are as ever slowly changing..

My illness that is now being treated with double beta blockers is not yet responding well and some of my ordinary PVCs have changed to interpolated PVCs which can eventually lead to Cardiomyopathy with severe and chronic anxiety being the root cause.

I don’t have control over my anxiety and Flickr is just one thing I can leave off at least. I have had some lovely mails asking me to just take a break then come back and believe me they are so heartwarming and mean more than you will ever know.

The place I am at now is to still leave my account open as it is paid up until April 2024. Comments for new photos are turned off and shall remain off as I am too unwell to leave comments as they take me ages to formulate and I get so tired and stressed.

I intend flooding my Flickr account with photos from my two previous Flickr accounts as I get a better idea of whether I myself consider them worthy of uploading to my new online account with a couple of online accounts instead of mixed with thousands of other photos on my PC

I shall hopefully start to fave but not be commenting on photos on Flickr as I not well enough to at the moment but I haven’t given up on getting better although I am unsure how…

I wish everyone well and am still browsing all your wonderful inspirational photography !

Just walking the dog while recovering from my illness, we came upon this magical scene in the woods. I don't know about Zak, but it lifted my spirit intensely. The light was wonderful and the trees ... well, they were so wonderfully graceful and welcoming with their beauty and silence. Had to 'paint' this scene ... and I hope you like it too. I always knew what I'd call this picture.

Here's a bit of music you might like too. I do - always have since I was introduced to it by my sons a few years back now. The whole album is terrific, by the same name - Grace.

After 6 days of illness, I'm finally back on my feet...hence the reason why I have been absent here on Flickr.

Tomorrow I am returning to work for the first time since last Friday. I feel ALIVE again and wanted to celebrate by posting this beautiful rose picture given to me by a friend. I received a bouquet of roses for helping her become my colleague.

I will soon get back to comments and liking all your beautiful pictures.

Smile on Saturday - Blue for you - ME 2020

On May 12 it's ME/CFS and Fibromyalgia International Awareness Day.

May 12 was chosen as it coincided with the birth date of Florence Nightingale, the celebrated English social reformer and statistician, and the founder of modern nursing. Nightingale became chronically ill in her mid-thirties after returning from the Crimean War; the M.E.-like illness often left her bedridden during the last 50 years of her life.

"En la Edad Media fue una enfermedad tremendamente extendida. Los leprosos, eran marginados sociales y estaban obligados a salir cubiertos enteros y a hacer sonar una campana por donde pasaban para que la gente no se cruzara con ellos y terminase “contagiada” (aunque en realidad no es una enfermedad de las mas contagiosas). El balanceo a la hora de andar, es debido a que en estado avanzado esta enfermedad produce deformaciones por todo el cuerpo".

Despite her illness, Daisy still likes to play. Camera ready, I put the frog down. Daisy wanted the frog, but not a photo - so she picked up the toy & ran to another room before I could get a single photo. After more failed attempts, I gave up. I put the camera away, fetched biscuits & hid them under the frog & got this quick snap with my phone while she was still hoping for more bribes. She has trained me very well!

Dear Flickr friends,

This will be my last posting for a few days, until I am able to get out and about again but I will dip in and out to look at your wonderful work. I have a boat trip booked to see some seals on Sunday, so I really hope I will be able to do this... My mind is willing …

My picture was taken just under 3 years ago, while I was recuperating from illness and it is a gentle reminder to me of what I am able to achieve. I climbed high to see this view.

Dear Chi, 悲しむことはありません. それは希望のメッセージです. 友よありがとう : 0)

A MESSAGE OF HOPE

As darkness falls, then so do I

body broken, tears run dry

As daylight comes, the pressure rose

It craves expression, 'fore my eyes close

A little bird with broken wing

tapped my window, began to sing

She gave me HOPE and brought me love

a poem so sweet. from Heaven above

She cannot fly with broken wing

but to me she brings the gift of Spring

When hollowed out and in despair

pray for your angel. She's always there

She walks beside me, takes my hand

The sun shines down and warms the sand.

From the sea I came and will return

but I leave behind, HOPE, love, friendship

'til I return …

Is this a 20th Century moment or a 21st Century moment? It's hard to tell, but in fact it's the latter. There are many small rural communities that now remind me of scenes I witnessed during my time spent in Cuba. Many of these small rural communities in America are currently ravaged by poverty and drug addiction with no identifiable path out of the situation. We are a better people than this, and our elected officials of both parties in Washington would be better advised to cease the divisive rhetoric and general political posturing and dig into real and lasting solutions for homelessness, drug addiction, immigration, poverty, mental illness, suicide, and the proliferation of false news that is destroying America.

This photo is to bring awareness to Myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS), sometimes referred to as myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME) or chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS). ME/CFS is a debilitating disease that lacks a universally accepted case definition, cause, diagnosis, or treatment. According to the CDC, more than one million USA citizens have CFS. At least one-quarter of individuals with ME/CFS are bedbound or housebound at some point in the illness and most never regain their pre-disease level of functioning. ME/CFS strikes people of all ages and racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic groups, and is diagnosed two to four times more often in women.

Inspired by advocacy, empowerment and acceptance, this piece explores the dimensionality of mental illness and the role we as a society play in creating awareness.

Reflection that a person suffering from Alzheimer's may face many misconceptions and stereotypes, the intention of this piece is to capture the unique essence of an individual despite these assumptions and reinforce that they are more than just a series of labels or medical terms. My latest vintage camera arrived from Japan yesterday. During my recent illness (from which I'm still trying to recover), I decided to act positively and acquire a medium format camera I have been thinking about since the time I bought my Hasselblad 500 C/M. In the accompanying photographs I'll explain some of the specs of this wonderful camera, but you can see it here compared in size to my Hasselblad medium format and my digital Nikon D850. It is a BIG camera.

This particular model was made in 1970 primarily for professional studio work on a tripod. This is not the sort of camera you handhold without it causing you serious muscle strain (ha ha). One of my inspirations for choosing this camera for large film landscapes is the incredible work in this field by Sir Don McCullin using the very same model Mamiya RB67. www.theguardian.com/artanddesign/gallery/2025/oct/09/some...

Shooting 6x7 negatives provides extraordinary detail. This is the equivalent of five times the size of a full frame sensor (as with my Nikon D850). This fully mechanical camera is regarded as one of the finest medium format cameras ever made (and certainly the biggest). The Mamiya-Sekor lenses are legendary for sharpness. But the best news of all is that these cameras are so affordable now, and usually in great condition since they were generally only used in professional studios.

I have to thank my Flickr friend Alex Erismann www.flickr.com/photos/alexerismann/ for inspiring me with his fabulous photographs on the Mamiya RB67, and Brett Rogers for giving me his well earned advice. www.flickr.com/photos/tasmania_film_photography/with/5525... .

Thanks also to Marjorie for allowing me to spend the money. xx :)

I KNOW YOU CARE – ELLIE GOULDING

It's been a funny few days

and even funnier nights

chasing storm clouds from my mind

falling; laughing; pillow fights

I tumble to the rumble of the thunder

let lightning strike me in the same place twice

dancing in the torrential rain

smiling up at you; feels so nice

kick off my heels; barefoot and free

stumbling; clumsy; straight into your arms

you steady me; you're my anchor in a storm

you're the rock that roots me

safe and steady; snuggle up; warm

toasting marshmallows

in the old ramshackle barn

where we used to play and shelter

way back then it was our port in the storm

now you came and found me

placed your hand in mine

smiled at me with your goofy grin

so nice to know we didn't run out of time

don't run out on me again

not now; not even in my dreams

'cos you rooted me to the earth again

now nothing is as bad as it seemed

we were meant for each other

no bout a-doubt it I mis-say

remember the short-hand we talked

oh, you know, back in the day

now it's my turn to smile

look down shyly at my feet

turned inwards as always

I look up and we let our eyes meet

sparkling and twinkling;

grinning until our faces ache

were we ever this happy before

I am ready to chance it; so willing to take

the wind is still blowing

wait until the dust sets

or run with me now

and cancel all bets

I see you nodding

no words need be said

you've got my heart in your hand

I've got our tune stuck in my head.

I have almost no pain anymore. Just a little weak walking.

First of all to all my friends, its good to sit here FINALLY. On 3/17 i met my new doctor. On 3/18 i was rushed to the ER i have no recollection other than what i have been told. Took several days to stabilize me to do the surgeries required. Pancreatitis and Gall Bladder. I was in the Trauma Unit for just over 2 weeks and now home but can't sit at pc. My apologies for missing your beautiful and inspiring works. I am still recovering and still experience pain. If you would keep me in your thoughts and prayers I would be most grateful. My love to you all <3

Due to illness, I haven't been able to get out with the camera over the past few months but hope to be able to do so again in the near future.

This is a shot from my holiday last autumn in the lake district. Taken at Blea Tarn on a lovely sunny morning.

Thank you for looking and for your continued support.

I picked these dandelion seed heads as they caught my eye and were about to disperse to the wind. I put them in a jar and photographed them with the backlight of my window and a perspective from underneath them.

I was surprised at the detail I could see via my camera lens, and how quickly these seed heads all wanted to intermingle with one another, drawn via their velcro like tentacles. Then I also noticed an ant had become mummified in one of them, unable to disentangle itself from the center of this dandelion seed.

The concept of contagion jumped into my mind. And indeed, dandelions have a force unto themselves in their ability to spread everywhere with their airborne seeds on a breezy day.

Due to a long illness this is my first landscape shot in more than one and a half years. Last week I went out on adventure! It was so exciting, the bus for disabled people took me to Kinderdijk with my mobility scooter, camera, tripod and all and dropped me off Café de Klok close to the windmills. It was freezing cold outside with temperatures of 6 degrees below zero. Unfortunely the "Golden hour" was over before I knew it, so I had very little time to scout for the best compositions. The "blue hour" lasted longer, but once the sun was down the temperature dropped another 6 degrees (or so it felt to me charging up and down between the windmills on my scootmobile!) What a wonderful feeling of freedom I felt! More shots to follow

MAY is fibromyalgia awareness month

(MAY 12 IS AWARENESS DAY)

nationaltoday.com/national-fibromyalgia-awareness-day/

In support of MARIA, www.flickr.com/photos/134385668@N03/, the Administrator of this group, and all who suffer from fibromyalgia.

About 20 years or so ago, I used to visit a lady who lived with her daughter and her family. I have never heard of fibromyalgia until she told me that she was suffering from this disease. She seemed to be in so much pain each time I visited her. She told me, at one time, she had to crawl from her bedroom upstairs to the kitchen to get something to eat. What made me so sad was her daughter and family didn't believe her. I felt so sorry for her. I was happy when, during one of my visits, she told me that she finally found a seniors' housing where she got the help she needed. I lost contact of her but I hope she is still around and continue to have someone with her who understands her needs,

On May 12 it's ME/CFS and Fibromyalgia International Awareness Day.

I am a victim of that illness myself, together with many others here at Flickr.

Therefore we will have the theme "Blue for You - ME 2021", on Saturday May 8, in my group Smile on Saturday! :-).

With this topic I would like to encourage not only the people here who suffer from that disease, but anyone who is in pain, physically or mentally.

And with my picture and the following words, I try to portray and describe what I feel and how I feel.

When pain is always present

Then life is really hard

When fear is never leaving

Then joy is far away

And yet

There is hope

There is love

The small flame of hope

The big flame of love

They keep me going

For your knowledge, I decided to make my life more challenging and interesting so looked up "What does yellow represent" in Google and this was their response: "The Color Yellow. Yellow, the lightest hue of the spectrum, signifies joy, happiness, betrayal, optimism, caution, idealism, imagination, hope, sunshine, summer, gold, philosophy, dishonesty, cowardice, jealousy, covetousness, deceit, illness, hazard and friendship". So I decided to try my hand at

illness, and found it a pretty big challenge, I hope you like what I have done.

With heartfelt and genuine thanks for your kind visit. Have a wonderful and beautiful day, be well, keep your eyes open, appreciate the beauty surrounding you, enjoy creating, stay safe and laugh often! ❤️❤️❤️

"Palestinian women in the Gaza Strip have been “denied the conditions needed to live and to give life safely” by Israel amid its genocidal war on the enclave, according to Amnesty International, a global rights group.

Amnesty warned on Tuesday that women and girls in Gaza have been pushed “to the brink” as the Israeli war has spurred a series of hardships, from mass displacement to the destruction of the local healthcare system.

Pregnant women, as well as those who need treatment for cancer and other illnesses, have been particularly hard-hit by the lack of adequate health services in the territory, Amnesty said in a statement.

“This systematic erosion of their rights to health, safety, dignity and a future is not an unfortunate by-product of war; it is a deliberate act of war targeting women and girls,” the group said.

“It is also the foreseeable consequence of Israel’s calculated policies and practices of multiple mass displacement, deliberate restrictions on basic and essential items, as well as humanitarian relief, and two years of relentless bombardment that have devastated Gaza’s health system and decimated entire families.”

More than 72,000 Palestinians have been killed since Israel’s war on Gaza began in October 2023.

Israeli attacks have continued despite a US-brokered “ceasefire” that came into effect in October of last year, killing more than 600 people, according to the latest figures from the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza."

Hydrangea

The flowers of many hydrangeas act as natural pH indicators, producing blue flowers when the soil is acidic and pink ones when the soil is alkaline.

Hydrangea root and rhizome are indicated for the treatment of conditions of the urinary tract in the Physicians' Desk Reference for Herbal Medicine and may have diuretic properties. Hydrangeas are moderately toxic if eaten, with all parts of the plant containing cyanogenic glycosides. Hydrangea paniculata is reportedly sometimes smoked as an intoxicant, despite the danger of illness and/or death due to the cyanide.

The flowers on a hydrangea shrub can change from blue to pink or from pink to blue from one season to the next depending on the acidity level of the soil. Adding organic materials such as coffee grounds and citrus peel will increase acidity and turn hydrangea flowers blue. A popular pink hydrangea called Vanilla Strawberry has been named "Top Plant" by the American Nursery and Landscape Association.
