Hello my Flickr friends!!!
Today is Monday which is a red day at color My World daily Group. The theme for Macro Mondays is: thread and needle.
It is very crazy here in Montreal, right now… Schools are closed for 2 weeks, everybody who can is working from home, people over 70 are asked to stay home and avoid social contacts… Toilet paper situation (I know everyone wants an update on this VERY, VERY important subject) seems to be better… People got their common sense back…We will see what is next. Frankly I was (and I still am) super preoccupied by this COVID19 hysteria and I hope it will get better in the next few days…
I hope you are all healthy and safe !! I wish you an amazing beginning of the week !!!
Thank you so much for all your lovely comments / favs/ general support / happy thoughts / positive vibes!! It is truly appreciated! I sincerely hope everyone is all right and you all have everything you need to survive this with a smile! Have a great day and see you soon!!

ZSU-44 "Zamolchi" (Shut Up) SPAAG
-------------------
The ZSU-44 is a SPAAG designed to destroy both air units and infantry units alike.
It employs a quad 20mm autocannon, and IGLA SAMs on either side of the turret.
It can be loaded with AP ammunition of needed. It features an armour featured on UT tanks:
The first tier is the composite armour. It consists of basic armour shell with an insert of alternating layers of aluminum and plastics and a controlled deformation section.
The second tier is the Kontakt-5 ERA (explosive reactive armor). It severely reduces the blow from kinetic projectiles. They are in the form of blocks on the turret and body or as ERA plates underneath steel outer covering. It results in much better protection than simple steel armour as featured on many other non-UT tanks.
The third tier is a Shtora countermeasures suite. This system includes two IR "dazzlers" on the front/top of the turret in the shape of blocks, four Laser warning receivers, two 3D6 aerosol grenade discharging systems and a computerized control system. The Shtora-1 warns the tank's crew when the tank has been 'painted' by a weapon-guidance laser and automatically activates the aerosol grenade launchers, effectively jamming the incoming missile. The aerosol grenades are used to mask the tank from laser rangefinders and designators as well as the optics of other weapons systems.
For passive guidance rocket systems, IR dazzlers create a blinding field of infrared light, "blinding" the rocket as it's IR isn't visible anymore.
The Arena active countermeasures suite consist of a computer, incoming projectile warning sensors, and shrapnel launchers all around the tank hull. It detects an incoming projectile, and sends out a stream of shrapnel to meet the incoming projectile. It destroys the projectile while leaving the armour intact.

LEGO MOC of ZU-23M1 anti-aircraft twin-barreled autocannon in scale of 1:30.
ZU-23M1 has an upgraded fire control system and can optionally be fitted with two launchers for 9M342 "Igla-S" MANPADS.
Attention: I got this picture from a video of the latest Military Parade in North Korea. Therefore it´s not mine.
One year ago, I saw the picture above of the North Korean Pokpung-Ho IV tank, which was a huge surprise to me. This tank (a modified T-62 chassis with parts from the old T-72 and a few other vehicles) carries on the roof two AT-5 Spandrel and one Sa-16 Manpad (also known as 9K38 Igla).
The idea of the short range Manpad instead of the common 12,7mm heavy machine gun (the vehicle also carries a KPVT 14,5mm heavy machine gun) offers a series of advantages. Today´s battlefield is quite different compared to the Cold War, with thousands of UCAVs and gunships flying at distance and firing long-range anti-tank missiles against our tanks. For defense against this threat, the simple machine gun is just an anachronism.
That’s why I mount a short-range missile on almost all the vehicles that I made. It provides superior defense at a lower cost.
