The Huka Falls are the largest falls on the Waikato River, near Taupo on New Zealand's North Island.
The Waikato river is one of New Zealand's longest rivers and it drains Lake Taupo - the largest freshwater lake in all of Australasia.
At the Huka Falls, the Waikato River which is normally 100m wide, is forced through a 20 metre wide gorge and over a dramatic 20m drop.
Every second up to 220,000 litres of water gushes through the gorge and shoots out over 8 metres beyond to create a beautful blue/green pool.
Thunder echoed as the explosive sounds caromed on each other. Menacing nimbus clouds blackened the skies in part, illuminated by the blindingly white hot light of hopscotching lightning bolts. In the western horizons, over Minneapolis and western suburbs, evanescing filigreed columns of rain can be seen clearly against the grayer clouds behind. With an appalling rapidity, the rain arrived over Saint Paul, pouring in sheets, only to move as fast on to Eastern parts and Wisconsin. To the North, as seen in this photograph, the sun breached the erstwhile clouds blackness to claim a corner of the sky, painting it in scarlet hue.
There is beauty in this pugilato of nature’s forces in conflict. It was my intent to capture this moment of the ever changing tableaus we are regaled with by Mother Nature.

This morning as I prepared to drink my cup o’java, I sat on my favorite chair by the window and turned on the tv. Nothing remarkable was happening outside, some cumulus clouds floated in puffs on the somewhat fade down blue sky, suddenly some inner voice was yelling something, insistently, and my peripheral vision caught a smidge of color. When I looked properly, the clouds had acquired colors that weren’t there just just seconds before. I grabbed my Nikon d810 and got this. Within seconds it was gone, but I preserved it.
