Located in Nitmiluk National Park in the Northern Territory of Australia, Katherine Gorge is a series of 13 deep gorges carved through ancient sandstone by the Katherine River.
At this time of the year Katherine Gorge waters are ideal for swimming and canoeing. Although there are freshwater crocodiles in the river (they nest along the banks), they're harmless as their jaws are not big or strong enough to take a human. I only saw one crocodile on this day and nobody went swimming.
Tomorrow, the Olympic Winter Games 2022 in Beijing will be opened. There has been a lot of discussion about the meaningfulness of this event, being held in times of pandemic, in an autocratic country that tramples human rights underfoot, and in the presence of a threat of war between Russia and Ukraine.
Olympic ideals and values seem to apply to athletes only, the main purpose is about big money and state propaganda.
Is the Olympic idea starting to starting to dissolve - as the 5 rings in this image do... ?
The Shipwreck Coast of Victoria, Australia, is an ideal place for a Corona virus get away. It stretches 130 Km from Cape Otway to Port Fairy, and is home to the limestone formations called The Twelve Apostles.
Explorer Matthew Flinders said in 1802, of the Shipwreck Coast, "I have seldom seen a more fearful section of coastline." It is the resting place of many wrecked ships, as well as being a stunningly beautiful coast; I took this shot from a helicopter in 2013.

A shot from Coigach taken while fishing for Pollock. These beautiful clouds started forming and lit up the sky over Stac Pollaidh and Cul Mor. I also caught lots of fish, so a brilliant evening all around. The Ideal Height is a track by Biffy Clyro, and is fine.

A southbound Pacific Surfliner rolls along the ocean near Del Mar. The house on the right is no doubt out of my budget, but I could still dream of watching Surfliners and BNSF freight passing through from an incredible vantage point.

I had already taken the day off and this was a great start to the day in pursuit of searchlights along the Mississippi River - another dying breed.

When you find yourself on this Florida beach by yourself in mid July you’ve just landed in paradise.
Son muchos los parámetros y variables que tenemos que controlar para hacer bonitas fotos de aves.
Para mi uno de los que mas importancia tiene es el fondo sobre el que se situa el protagonista.
Los fondos muy planos, aunque para mi preferibles a los muy enmarañados, son sosos,si bien las aves suelen lucir bien sobre ellos.
Los fondos con contrastes de luz, pueden resultar algunas veces interesantes, pero si estos son excesivos con muchas zonas oscuras resaltando, suelen arruinar la foto.
Conseguir un fondo natural, con distintos tonos suaves y donde el ave luzca bien, no es sencillo y muchas veces la luz es el factor fundamental para ello.
Las luces que dan los días un poco nublados son las ideales para conseguir fondos poco contrastados y con colores suaves y dependiendo de lo que tengamos detrás del pájaro, con distintos tonos que aportan interés a la fotografía.
En este caso, muestro una joven Curruca mirlona (Sylvia hortensis), fotografiada a primera hora de la mañana del mes de Julio, cuando el Sol se encontraba tapado por unas finas nubes.
Este mismo fondo con el Sol incidiendo sobre el unos minutos después ya cambiaba totalmente y dejaba de tener interés.
Fondos, luces, posaderos, posturas, momentos, composición, nitidez, muchas variables para poder lograr un bonita foto y que resulta realmente complicado que se den todos a la vez.
En el caso de esta fotografía creo que el posadero entre otros detalles, es mejorable y es justo lo que mas estaba en mi mano el haber podido controlar, ya que la fotografía esta realizada en un bebedero natural y el posadero esta colocado a tal fin por mi.
Pero esto de los posaderos es otro tema.

A great view from the top of Pen y Fan in the Brecon Beacons of an imminent snow shower approaching. The beautiful lines and curves of these ridges makes up for any lack of rocky cliffs. I love the wintry feel of this one, and the Ideal Height by Biffy Clyro is perfect as in the hills the ideal height is at the top looking down.
