Il #ClivusScauri (“Clivo di Scauro") era una strada della Roma antica che saliva dalla depressione tra i colli #Palatino e #Celio e ancora oggi, nel tratto iniziale, ha mantenuto il nome antico. Il nome della strada è testimoniato da un'iscrizione di età imperiale e dalle fonti medievali a partire dall'VIII secolo. Probabilmente la sua apertura fu dovuta a un membro della #gensAemiliaScauri, forse #MarcoEmilioScauro, censore nel 109 a.C. Costeggiava abitazioni dell'età imperiale, con ampie parti delle facciate conservate e, ancora oggi, per un tratto è scavalcata da numerosi archi di epoca medievale. Il lato sinistro è occupato da alcuni edifici sotto la #BasilicadeiSantiGiovanniePaolo.
The Clivus Scauri (“Clivo of Scaurus") was an ancient road of Rome coming up out of depression between the Palatine and Celio hill and even today, in the initial part, it retained the old name. The street name is testified by an inscription from the Imperial Age and medieval sources from the eighth century. Probably its opening was due to a member of the Gens Aemilia Scauri, perhaps Marco Emilio Scaurus, censor in 109 BC. It skirted imperial age homes, with large parts of the facades still preserved and, even today, for a tract is bypassed by numerous arches of medieval times. The left side is occupied by some buildings under the Basilica of Saints John and Paul.
