Purple finches should have pulled out of Lake Meyer Park a couple weeks ago, so this handsome tardy fellow is taking his own sweet time heading back north.
This female cardinal has her feathers all fluffed up to fight off the vaunted Polar Vortex that continues to send frigid arctic air south into Iowa.

A Dakota & Iowa empty stone train heads north at Fairview, IA on Oct. 7, 2013 with four SD40-2's and two SD39-2's.
I hadn't planned to be home from fishing until late tonight since the best fishing is right before dark, but we had such great fishing this weekend that my son and grandson decided to quit while we were ahead so they could head back to the big city early. I even had time to photograph this bald eagle and show him off tonight. I'll bet it would like to know where we were fishing😃
