There were comments on my shot of the North Train with the set of GP38's, and how people like them without the Mother/Slug set. I ran into this nice 4 pack of 38's at Bryant Yard on my way to work. The bummer was they were on their way to the shop for the day, but man the 3808 looks nice and clean! The IANR has retrofitted some of these 38's with a cylinder looking cover on top of the exhaust on some of the units to probably protect against sparks? Unfortunately one thing it does is collect fuel and then it dips down the middle of the units making them dirty over time. Not all of them have the retrofit.
There were a few things I have found scanned slides that I am super happy with. One is I am glad I got a lot of photos of the depots that were still standing in early 2000 along the CN. It seems that by 2010 or later, the CN went on a demolition spree and leveled a lot of depots. Central City, here at Wall Lake, Storm Lake, Denison, and Plainfield are a few depots that were taken down. The one here at Wall Lake was taken down so the east leg of the wye could be put in for the Western Iowa Energy (WIE) biodiesel plant that was built in 2005. The Council Bluffs local heads for the Bluffs as it works past the old depot and down the Omaha Sub.

Now that I got everyone warmed up with winter....Back to 2008 and here we have the Cedar Rapids local making it's way north on the branch towards Manchester with a plow on the front and back of the consist. Due to no turning facilities at Cedar Rapids the local has been bringing both plows along so one gets turned for the next trip north the next day. The job is about 4 miles south of Manchester as they hit a decent drift, There is a tons of snow drifts on this branch the 1st 13 miles south of Manchester, unfortunately alot of it isn't seen from the road.
