iPhone is extremely thin (only 11.6 millimeters thick) but wider and longer than many comparable devices. The display area is a 3.5-inch wide screen multi-touch interface with unusually high resolution (160 pixels per inch). Unlike most other smartphones, iPhone does not use a hardware keyboard or a stylus. To navigate, a user uses multiple taps and drags to navigate through a mobile version of Apple's OS X operating system. Like iPod, iPhone synchronizes data with a user's personal computer, using iTunes as a client software and Apple's proprietary USB port. iPhone is compatible with Microsoft's Windows operating systems, including Vista.
iPhone's networking features include:
* Automatic detection of WiFi networks.
* Support for the 802.11b and 802.11g standards.
* The use of quadband GSM and SIM cards to access cellular networks.
* EDGE support for high-speed data transfer where available.
* Bluetooth connectivity for short range networking with peripherals, other iPhones and PCs.
Apple says that iPhone carries 8 hours of life on the internal lithium-ion battery for talk or video, and up to 24 hours for music mode. The device ships with either a 4 or 8 GB hard drive, an Intel CPU and Apple's OS X operating system, modified for mobile use.
iPhone comes preloaded with a suite of media management software and communications software, including iTunes, the Safari Web browser and iPhoto. iPhoto may be used in combination with the 2 megapixel camera on the back of the device. Google's search and mapping services are fully integrated, including the ability to initiate phone calls from within Google Maps. Users can also view YouTube videos on the device, along with Microsoft Office documents and most imaging formats, including .JPEG, .GIF and .TIFF. A partnership with Yahoo allows iPhone users to send and receive rich HTML email. Other IMAP or POP3 e-mail services are integrated as well, along with webmail access in the browser.
While iPhone was released under an exclusive two-year partnership with AT&T Wireless, it took less than three months for hackers working in concert worldwide to unlock the device for use on any GSM network, though the process involved a level of technical sophistication well beyond the consumer level.

iPod is a brand of portable media players designed and marketed by Apple Inc. and launched on October 23, 2001. As of 2008, the current product line-up includes the hard drive-based iPod classic, the touchscreen iPod touch, the video-capable iPod nano and the screenless iPod shuffle. Former products include the compact iPod mini and the spin-off iPod photo (since re-integrated into the main iPod classic line). iPod classic models store media on an internal hard drive, while all other models use flash memory to enable their smaller size (the discontinued mini used a Microdrive miniature hard drive). As with many other digital music players, iPods, excluding the iPod touch, can also serve as external data storage devices. Storage capacity varies by model.
Apple's iTunes software is used to transfer music to the devices. As a jukebox application, iTunes stores a music library on the user's computer and can play, burn and rip music from a CD. It can also transfer photos, videos, games, and calendars to iPod models supporting those features. Apple focused its development on the iPod's unique user interface and its ease of use, rather than on technical capability. As of September 2007, the iPod had sold over 110 million units worldwide making it the best-selling digital audio player series in history.[1]
Microcontroller
* iPod first to third generations — Two ARM 7TDMI-derived CPUs running at 90 MHz.
* iPod fourth and fifth generations, iPod mini, iPod nano first generation — Variable-speed ARM 7TDMI CPUs, running at a peak of 80 MHz to save battery life.
* iPod nano second generation — Samsung System-On-Chip, based around an ARM processor.[16]
* iPod shuffle first generation — SigmaTel STMP3550 chip that handles both the music decoding and the audio circuitry.[17]
Audio chip
* All iPods (except the shuffle and 6G) use audio codecs developed by Wolfson Microelectronics.
* Sixth generation iPods use a Cirrus Logic audio codec chip.
Storage medium
* iPod first to sixth generation — 45.7 mm (1.8 in) hard drives (ATA-6, 4200 rpm with proprietary connectors) made by Toshiba
* iPod mini — 25.4 mm (1 in) Microdrive by Hitachi and Seagate
* iPod nano — Flash memory from Samsung, Toshiba, and others.
* iPod shuffle — Flash memory
* iPod touch — Flash memory
Batteries
* iPod first and second generation, nano, shuffle — Internal lithium polymer batteries
* iPod third to sixth generation — Internal lithium-ion batteries

HOW TO PREVENT HEADPHONE JACK PROBLEMS WITH AN ICATCHI PLUG™
DESCRIPTION
It’s a little known fact that all smart phones, cell phones and mobile devices that have headphone jack ports are exposed to the elements, such as;
sand, fluff, dirt, moisture, dust and liquids, which can cause headphone jack problems.
The types of headphone jack problems that can occur when these foreign materials enter the headphone jack port hole can vary, more commonly; the hands free function can stop working, the screen display can be compromised or in extreme cases the device becomes in operative.
Most of these devices have in built environmental sensors, which are triggered when they come in contact with liquids. There is an element in side the headphone jack that turns red as a result of liquid contact. In many cases this will void your manufactures warranty as specified under the warranty terms and conditions.
In order to prevent headphone jack problems it is recommended that you insert a protective device called an iCatchi Plug ™, which is a new product to assist in promoting longevity of your device.
Using a headphone jack plug like the iCatchi Plug ™ is an affordable way to provide mobile phone protection and avoid headphone jack problems. In particularly the Apple iPhone problems seem to be more common given the headphone jack is on the top of the device.
Day to day activities that can lead to headphone jack problems (Top 10)
1.Leaving your mobile device on the vanity when your taking a shower – humidity!
2.Leaving your mobile device on a table where there are liquids present – wine, beer, water, coffee, tea or soft drinks.
3.Talking on your phone when its raining
4.Taking your mobile device with you to the snow – potential to drop it
5.Leaving your mobile device in a bag at the beach – waves
6.Travelling to a humid country such as Hong Kong or Vietnam
7.Taking your mobile device fishing – drop in the bottom of the boat or into a small rock pool
8.Pulling your phone in and out of your pocket – lint & fluff
9.Putting your device in your hand bag or gym bag – fluff, lint or sand
10.Going onto a construction site or somewhere where there is excessive dust and dirt present
These are just a few examples of what can cause headphone jack problems. By purchasing a simple headphone jack plug with a cool image or design that suits your personality or interest you end up with a cost effective mobile phone protection for one of the most exposed components of your most valued asset.
All iCatchi Plugs™ include the iCatchi Clip ™ and free international shipping, very good value and worth having for the piece of mind.
iCatchi Pty Ltd is a promotions and marketing company which supplies corporate branded and decorative headphone jack plugs for mobile devices to personalise and protect the headphone jack port from fluff and liquid damage which can cause device faults.
leather purse work in progress
instructions
basically you would take a nice peace of material, which is ridged and firm so that it will not bend too much..(at least for this kind of pouch) and wrap it around your phone to get the size.
Mark up and cut to size. (sharp cutter knife and metal ruler helps).
Take leather glue and glue edge where stitch will run. Clamp with bulldog clips where glued, overnight. (follow instructions for leather glue).
The next day either measure and mark up line and distance of holes to stitch through or get a tailor tool to mark up stitch holes. (a wee cogwheel on a handle)
In my case I used this tool but used only every 2nd pierce to get a nice appearance - and then drilled! with a 1mm drill all the holes. (as small as you can get)
Stich through with a nice firm (thick) yarn the way it's shown on the picture.. I used linen yarn

DEFINITION - iPhone is a smartphone made by Apple that combines an iPod, a tablet PC, a digital camera and a cellular phone. The device includes Internet browsing and networking capabilities.

Watch an iPhone demonstration (video).
iPhone is extremely thin (only 11.6 millimeters thick) but wider and longer than many comparable devices.
