The Ironmen & Severn Gilders, together with the IMSG Band, are a Morris side based in Ironbridge in Shropshire. They specialise in Border Morris, a style of dancing originating from the border country between England and Wales. Their dress and colours of red and black symbolise the colours of the coke fires of the industrial revolution which used to light up the night sky.

The Ironmen's faces are also red and black to blend with their tatters and attire, to remind us of their origins, namely begging. When work was scarce the workers danced to make money whilst trying not to be recognised by their employers.

The Severn Gilders are named after the Gilders, the female workers who used to work at the Coalport China Factory who put gold decorative edging on the porcelain. A golden rose is worn by the ladies in recognition of the workers.

Pictures taken at the annual Shrewsbury Steampunk Spectacular Festival with Hallowe'en Fair held Saturday 26/10/24 at St Mary's Church in Shrewsbury, Shropshire.

There were stalls inside the church and entertainment inside and outside, including a fire-eater and Morris and belly dancers. Steamers mixed with Goths, Medieval, Exotic and Victoriana. The sun was shining, the sky was blue and it was the middle of Autumn, so the leaves were turning and throwing golden glows to lights and shadows.

St Mary's is a redundant church which is a popular venue for exhibitions, concerts and events. It's also beautiful and spectacular inside and well worth a visit! At this time of year, Christmas Card sales are held for charitable organisations in the Trinity Chapel.
