Today's dominant theme seems to be being blocked, in every possible way: creatively, spiritually, organizationally, even intestinally. It's discouraging.

But there are signs everywhere that I need to use this feeling of blockage as a moment to teach myself to move through those feelings to a clearer, more fulfilled place. The first T-shirt I pulled out of the closet this morning was printed with the legend DO BETTER. During morning devotional the Bible opened to Matthew 23, which is all about woe on the hypocrites; reading it, my mind went immediately to the need to see things differently. (And at this moment it recalls yesterday's cocktail conversation with a new friend who explained the danger of a "one-story narrative" and the need to hear more than one point of view.)

Today's horoscopes are full of prudent advice for me, such as: Watch your thoughts...notice how your thoughts affect your energy. A negative thought will weigh you down while a positive thought will lift you up...[challenge:] to find wisdom in our actions." (Gold River Astrology) Also advice to relax the mind, compromise, accommodate -- not be so rigid.

I needed to receive this guidance at the start of the day, and I'm grateful I did. Already I am refraining from holding on mentally to bad news in the papers, and refraining from commenting! Today I am making my citrine pendant a talisman for positivity. Citrine enhances creative imagination (and I need that today), mental clarity, and manifestion through the will -- all things that can keep me on an even keel today.

This citrine pendant is like a spot of liquid sunshine. As soon as I saw the dealer's photo online I knew it would be mine. Even though, as it happens, it might not be a real citrine but baked amethyst, it has come to me at the right time, and I love having it and wearing it. Soon, I will be wearing it at the beach!

Hamburg - Landschaftsachse Fischbek (Achse 8)

Carola Rackete (pronounced [kaˈʁoːla ʁaˈkeːtə];[nb 1] born 8 May 1988 in Preetz, Germany) is a German ship captain who volunteered with the German sea rescue organisation Sea-Watch.[1][2] In June 2019, she was arrested for docking a migrant rescue ship "Sea-eye 3" without authorization in the port of Lampedusa, Italy.

On 12 June,[7] the ship picked up 53 migrants in the Mediterranean off the Libyan coast. Sea-Watch 3 rejected an offer to dock at Tripoli, which is considered unsafe by the European Union and the humanitarian organizations, and headed toward Lampedusa. According to a map they posted,[8] and also to a report by the Süddeutsche Zeitung and other non-governmental organizations (NGOs) this was the nearest safe harbor per maritime law.[9][4] On 14 June, Italy closed its ports to migrant rescue ships.[10] Italian interior minister Matteo Salvini refused to allow the ship to dock until other European nations had agreed to take the migrants.[11] Ten of the migrants, including children, pregnant women, and those who were ill, were allowed to disembark.[4] On 28 June, Finland, France, Germany, Luxembourg and Portugal offered to take the migrants.[11]

On 29 June, without authorization, Rackete decided to dock.[9][7] The motivation for this was that according to her the passengers were exhausted.[10] Rackete was arrested by the Italian authorities after docking.[4][12][13]

Italian interior minister Matteo Salvini accused Rackete of trying to sink an Italian patrol boat that was trying to intercept her and that her ship collided with, calling the incident an act of war and demanding the Netherlands intervene.[9][12]

Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte "scrambled to address the matter" at the 2019 G20 Osaka summit.[14] Germany protested the arrest.[14] Crowdfunding appeals in Italy and Germany had raised over €1 million as of 1 July for Sea-Watch legal defense.[14] Fortune called Rackete the "fresh new face" of the European migrant crisis.[14]

Sea-Watch 3 has a mainly German crew but sailed under Dutch flag.[15] In the Netherlands, main government party VVD stated that NGOs that deliberately without permission pick up people should be convicted for facilitating human trafficking.[16] Spokesman Jeroen van Wijngaarden said that: "They are factually not a rescue service but a ferry service."[17] Within the Dutch coalition government, they got support from the CDA, and in the Dutch parliament there basically was a majority that supported this. Nevertheless, the two other parties in the coalition government protested strongly against this statement.[18][15]

Eventually, Rackete was released from house arrest after a court ruling that she had broken no laws and acted to protect passengers' safety.[19][20][21] Rackete's lawyer filed a lawsuit against Salvini for defamation on social media, alleging that he incited his followers to threaten her.[22]

The council of the City of Paris on 12 July 2019 announced that the two captains of Sea-Watch 3, Pia Klemp and Carola Rackete, will receive the Grand Vermeil Medal, the top award of the City of Paris, for saving migrants at sea, because the two captains symbolized "solidarity for the respect of human lives".[23] Both refused the medal, defining this decision "hypocritical". Klempt wrote in a statement: "You want to award me a medal...because our crews 'work' to rescue migrants from difficult conditions on a daily basis. At the same time your police steal blankets from people you force to live on the streets while you suppress protests and criminalise people who defend the rights of migrants and asylum seekers."[24]

As of July 2019, Rackete was under investigation by Italian authorities for possible criminal activities in regards to undocumented migration. If convicted, Rackete would have faced up to 15 years in prison.[25] In January 2020, on appeal the Italian Supreme Court of Cassation ruled that Rackete should never have been arrested.

On 10 September 2019 she was awarded with the Medal of Honor of the Parliament of Catalonia, given by the president of the Catalan Parliament, in recognition for her humanitarian work.[26] In October 2020, Carola Rakete was awarded the first Karl Küpper [de] award.[27] On 6 May 2021, two days before her 33rd birthday, she was awarded a doctor honoris causa from the University of Namur in Belgium.[28]

On May 19, 2021 a court in Agrigento ruled that no trial should be held, agreeing with a state prosecutor that the actions had been undertaken in an effort to save the lives of the migrants.[29]

Hypocrite's Crayon Gallery

sometimes we be confused .. mostly about why were being used.

and i know im probably hypocritical ..

but i guess the glass isnt always half full.

we cant always pretend to be happy..

because sometimes you need to tell people how you feel,

even if it sounds sappy.

you need to know , that even if your afraid too, you need to let your true colours show.

because i look out to the sea, and i realise that the person staring back is me.

youve been there standing tall this whole time and yet you stare uneasily at your soul like you commited a crime.

dont be afraid to face the truth , because even if it hurts sometimes the best thing in life is the truth.

we all learn from our mistakes .. and sometimes in order to be happy you have to get through the earthquake.

when i look up at the sun i realise that maybe im not falling in last place where i run. im a kid from the moon , but the sun might welcome me soon.

and i might feel like i used to ..

and thats a plan ive been waiting to do.

i still walk my path alone. but atleast i know im the one on my thrown.

******************************************

sometimes i wonder if god made me special here on purpose

ive been pretty down lately.. i still am .

im not truly ever going to be satisfied.

but i know that im the one whos been here for myself this whole time.

i dont need him to be happy..

although right now i want him really really bad. he needs to realize that im his loss. hes not mine.

someday when he realizes hes not gonna get me back .. hes gonna come running right back to me .

but itll be to late.

The other day I took pity on someone who needed logo help. Which launched me into my favourite rant about the devaluing of professional designers (who have spent immense money and time on their education [edit: be this formal education, or very thorough self-education]) due to the mass-accessibility of our tools of the trade (computers and programs, etc) to the general public. I also ranted about the problem with educating society as far as understanding the value of designers who have been trained to think critically and creatively… robustly, if you will, in contrast with people who are just somewhat handy with programs, but don't have the depth or breadth of understanding that can support it, and generally create poor results.

This may not sit very well with many Flickrites who dabble in design and have set out as professionals, I realize. I can't help feeling frustrated, though, when I see the ridiculously low quality of a lot of the work out in the world, and yet I can't find a job. But after ranting, I realized that I am a little hypocritical, in that I am spending a vast amount of time here on Flickr, fancying myself a photographer. Professional photographers must feel the equivalent of my rant against so many flickrites and the like, who have acquired a DSLR and decided to try making a go of a professional photography business. I admit, the notion is not entirely foreign to me.

I am curious about your thoughts on this matter. I've elaborated more thoroughly about my thoughts on my blog, if you'd care to read it, and I ask additional questions about the nature of value and validity in this respect. I'm curious as to your reactions. I have a feeling it may be a bit of a touchy subject. I mean no offense.

What is wrong with people? Can't you just enjoy the solitary experience without soiling and spoiling it with social media? Do you need to prove you had fun? That you are "one with self"?

There are lots of hypocritical bunch of folks out there.

Why should I be in Maxine's My New Bff S3: I never really thought about that. But I'd probably say it's because on shows like these, there's a plethora of girls and little to no guys. It's probably because guys aren't as committed as ladies but I don't know. I guess I just wanna break gender barrier or something. I think guys have a great chance of being Maxine's best friend. To add to that, Maxine would be a great person to be friends with. She's beautiful both inside and out, and a very genuine woman.

Of course I'd enter with Dex. Surprising. Thank you Nik, Tyrique, and Ivan for giving me the idea to use him. I'm pretty excited about this comp, the other contestants are... interesting to say the least. Though, my favorites by far are Beverley, Lucy, Kylie, and Monique.

Sorry to crank up the misery even further but the industrial slaughter of our beautiful, blameless badgers begins again tonight, mothers and cubs snuffling up peanuts planted by the killers will be shot in their hundreds ( up to 2000 badgers ) in the coming months. That's not to mention the hundreds of badgers that will inevitably be killed illegally, the ' government ' know damn well they've given the green light for anyone to kill badgers.

I feel like a total hypocrite saying this given that I won't be there but the organisations trying to monitor and disrupt these appalling crimes are desperate for people to help. They need as many people as possible in the killing fields of Gloucestershire and Somerset, heroic souls will be flocking from all over the country to try and save our beautiful badgers. Even if you can't be there just making a small donation will help, those on the ground need night vision equipment in order to see what's going on and of course people travelling large distances to be there are going to end up spending money on fuel. There are camps set up with decent facilities I believe with a very friendly atmosphere by all accounts, these brave people out there in the darkness are all our badgers have now I'm afraid.

At Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Boulder, Colorado.

Speaking of "rules", aka laws, I keep hearing prominent Democrats say ":nobody is above the Law, not even the President." That rings hypocritical to me because the Clinton's and Biden's are apparently above the law. So are the mayors of sanctuary cites who refuse to cooperate with Federal law. Illegal immigrants are above the law.

The Rule of St. Benedict.

There it was… a geological marvel, an inspiration by any definition. Standing in awe, my ears heard the summer wind whistle through Navajo Mountain canyons and the eyes saw how rocks were carved for ages to form what now crosses over the little creek leading to the mighty Colorado River. But it is not only the creek that it bridges. It bridges time, traditions, cultures, emotions, beliefs and above all, it bridges opposites. Sitting beneath its sacred presence, I felt that these opposites are our own and are often paired in vain. There is flickering anxiety with every hope, an apology for every prejudice, a dash of disdain for every bow in front of weird whims, a silent laughter of renouncement for every tear… I could go on. Our consciousness is captivated in opposites. We are hypocritical in the sense that we manifest ourselves taking every care to hide the internal dichotomy. We smile but hide the pain. We talk but speak nothing of the silence. We yell but look away when eyes tear up… never will you find a moment when opposites don’t define it. Perhaps our consciousness would not appear so enigmatic if we did not disown our dilemmas so fastidiously.

In all my thoughts, I did not notice when the canyon wind had picked up a distant Navajo tune and the clouds had broken to let the midday sun through to those holy rocks. And it was then I felt the rainbow… or, as the young Navajo lady on the boat had said, I felt Nonnezoshe, the rainbow that had turned stone. Perhaps long ago it was a big boulder of sandstone… like us, rigid and pretentious. Years of sorrow flowing as a tiny river deep within has carved those contradictions away leaving it in harmony with its opposites. Perhaps, if I let my pain run its course, I too will find my Nonnezoshe… my peace.

This was shot with Canon EOS Ti on Kodak Chrome 200 in 2004 and was recently digitized. We do not have written accounts of how native Indians feel about this monument, but my brief interaction with few locals left me in no doubt that this place means a lot to them. That is how it has been for ages. If you have an hour that needs to be killed, then read this travel account from 1913.

This is my side of our home office (best viewed - large).... Almost exactly five years ago I took another photo of what my desk looked like and what kinds of technology I was using at home. Well it's been five years and I just retired most of what I was using... now I'm an Apple convert and my home setup is much simpler (it's amazing the cabling that was pulled out, and how quiet things are... will be interesting to see if the power bill drops).

Click Here to see a close up version of what's on my desk.

Basically I have two computers, a desktop, laptop and a third machine functioning as a storage server. They are networked together by an HP ProCurve 8 port gigabit ethernet switch, with a Linksys WRT54GS running Tomato and functioning as a dedicated firewall and router and an Airport Extreme serving up wireless internet access.

This is just a fantastic setup for doing just about any photographic related computer task one could think of... It's wonderful to edit with this hardware and setup. Aside from the Mac Pro which is lighting fast, the real treat is seeing images on the amazingly accurate and sharp 30" NEC display, this monitor is quite a bit above and beyond the Apple Cinema Display (as well as the Dell and HP offerings).

On Switching to Mac: I've been a Microsoft user since MS-DOS 3.3 and have worked professionally as a server engineer and systems designer for Microsoft Servers for approx. 15 years, and Microsoft has come a long way... some of their newest offerings are darn impressive. But the reality is for me, at home... I want something that is simple, powerful and is best geared for photography. Additionally I wanted something that was simpler and doesn't result in me having to rebuild the system once a year or so because of something silly happening.

I've been half switched for a bit more than three months and so far it's been fantastic... there is a bit of a learning curve and somethings are kind of annoying, but overall it's been wonderful and the most enjoyable computing experience of my life. Besides, if I really need to run Windows I have Windows 7 Ultimate running in side a VMWare virtual machine.

Software: I want to point out that 100% of the software that is run on these systems has been paid for and is all legal like. This wasn't always the case but I do like knowing that it's all legit ... I think it's highly hypocritical for photographers or other content creators to complain about someone stealing their images or using images without their permission if they use pirated or not properly licensed software.

Experimental Salvation

by Arthur Pink

SALVATION may be viewed from many angles—and contemplated under various aspects. But from whatever side we look at it we must ever remember that "Salvation is of the Lord!" Salvation was planned by the Father for His elect before the foundation of the world. It was purchased for them by the holy life and vicarious death of His incarnate Son. It is applied to and wrought in them by His Holy Spirit. It is known and enjoyed through the study of the Scriptures, through the exercise of faith, and through communion with the triune Jehovah.

Now it is greatly to be feared that there are multitudes in Christendom who truly imagine and sincerely believe, that they are among the saved—yet who are total strangers to a work of divine grace in their hearts. It is one thing to have clear intellectual conceptions of God's truth—but it is quite another matter to have a personal, real heart acquaintance with it. It is one thing to believe that sin is the dreadful thing that the Bible says it is—but it is quite another matter to have a holy horror and hatred of it, in the soul. It is one thing to know that God requires repentance—but it is quite another matter to experimentally mourn and groan over our vileness. It is one thing to believe that Christ is the only Savior for sinners—but it is quite another matter to really trust Him from the heart. It is one thing to believe that Christ is the Sum of all excellency—but it is quite another matter to LOVE Him above all others. It is one thing to believe that God is the great and holy One—but it is quite another matter to truly reverence and fear Him. It is one thing to believe that salvation is of the Lord—but it is quite another matter to become an actual partaker of it through His gracious workings.

While it is true that Holy Scripture insists on man's responsibility—and that all through Scripture, God deals with the sinner as an accountable being; yet it is also true that the Bible plainly and constantly shows that no son of Adam has ever measured up to his responsibility, that every person has miserably failed to discharge his accountability. It is this which constitutes the deep need for GOD to work in the sinner—and to do for him what he is unable to do for himself. "Those who are in the flesh cannot please God" (Rom 8:8). The sinner is "without strength" (Rom 5:6). Apart from the Lord, we "can do nothing" (John 15:5).

While it is true that the Gospel issues a call and a command to all who hear it—it is also true that ALL disregard that call and disobey that command, "They all with one consent began to make excuse!" (Luke 14:18). This is where the sinner commits his greatest sin and most manifests his awful enmity against God and His Christ: that when a Savior, suited to his needs, is presented to him, he "despises and rejects" Him! (Isa 53:3).

This is where the sinner shows what an incorrigible rebel he is, and demonstrates that he is deserving only of eternal torments. But it is just at this point that God manifests His sovereign and wondrous GRACE. He not only planned and provided salvation, but he actually bestows it upon those whom He has chosen!

Now this bestowal of salvation is far more than a mere proclamation that salvation is to be found in the Lord Jesus: it is very much more than an invitation for sinners to receive Christ as their Savior. It is God actually saving His people! It is His own sovereign and all-powerful work of grace toward and in those who are entirely destitute of merit, and who are so depraved in themselves that they will not and cannot take one step to the obtaining of salvation! Those who have been actually saved, owe far more to divine grace, than most of them realize! It is not only that Christ died to put away their sins—but also the Holy Spirit has wrought a work in them—a work which applies to them, the virtues of Christ's atoning death!

It is just at this point that so many preachers fail in their exposition of the Truth. While many of them affirm that Christ is the only Savior for sinners, they also teach that He actually became ours only by our consent. While they allow that conviction of sin is the Holy Spirit's work and that He alone shows us our lost condition and need of Christ—yet they also insist that the decisive factor in salvation is man's own will. But the Holy Scriptures teach that "salvation is of the Lord!" (Jonah 2:9), and that nothing of the creature enters into it at any point. Only that can satisfy God—which has been produced by God Himself! Though it is true that salvation does not become the personal portion of the sinner until he has, from the heart, believed in the Lord Jesus Christ—yet that very BELIEVING is wrought in him by the Holy Spirit: "By grace are you saved through faith, and that NOT OF YOURSELVES; it is the gift of God" (Eph 2:8).

It is exceedingly solemn to discover that there is a "believing" in Christ by the natural man, which is NOT a believing unto salvation. Just as the Buddists believe in Budda—so in Christendom there are multitudes who believe in Christ. And this "believing" is something more than an intellectual one. Often there is much feeling connected with it—the emotions may be deeply stirred. Christ taught in the Parable of the Sower that there is a class of people who hear the Word and with joy receive it—yet have they no root in themselves (Matt 13:20, 21). This is fearfully solemn, for it is still occurring daily!

Scriptures also tell us that Herod heard John "gladly." Thus, the mere fact that the reader of these pages enjoys listening to some sound gospel preacher is no proof at all that he is a regenerated soul. The Lord Jesus said to the Pharisees concerning John the Baptist, "You were willing for a season to rejoice in his light," yet the sequel shows clearly that no real work of grace had been wrought in them. And these things are recorded in Scripture as solemn warnings!

It is striking and solemn to mark the exact wording in the last two Scriptures referred to. Note the repeated personal pronoun in Mark 6:20: "For Herod feared 'John' [not 'God'!], knowing that he as a just man and a holy, and observed him; and when he heard him, he did many things, and heard him gladly." It was the personality of John which attracted Herod. How often is this the case today! People are charmed by the personality of the preacher: they are carried away by his style and won by his earnestness for souls. But if there is nothing more than this—there will one day be a crude awakening for them! That which is vital, is a "love for the truth," not for the one who presents it. It is this which distinguishes the true people of God from the "mixed multitude" who ever associate with them.

So in John 5:35 Christ said to the Pharisees concerning His forerunner: "You were willing for a season to rejoice in his light," not "in the light"! In like manner, there are many today who listen to one whom God enables to open up some of the mysteries and wonders of His Word—and they rejoice "in his light" while in the dark themselves, never having personally received "an anointing from the Holy One." Those who do "love the truth" (2 Thess 2:10) are they in whom a divine work of grace has been wrought. They have something more than a clear, intellectual understanding of the Scripture. The Bible becomes the food of their souls, the joy of their hearts (Jer 15:16). They love the truth, and because they do so, they hate error and shun it as deadly poison. They are jealous for the glory of the Author of the Word, and will not sit under a minister whose teaching dishonors Him; they will not listen to preaching which exalts man into the place of supremacy, so that he is the decider of his own destiny.

"Lord, You will ordain peace for us: for You also have wrought all our works in us" (Isa 26:12). Here is the heart and unqualified confession of the true people of God. Note the preposition: "You also have wrought all our works in us." This speaks of a divine work of grace wrought in the heart of the saint. Nor is this text alone. Weigh carefully the following: "It pleased God, who separated me from my mother's womb, and called me by His grace, to reveal His Son in me" (Gal 1:15, 16).

"Unto Him who is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us" (Eph 3:20). "Being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will perform it" (Phil 1:6). "It is God who works in you both to will and to do of His good pleasure" (Phil 2:13). "I will put My laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them" (Heb 10: 16). "Now the God of peace...make you perfect in every good work to do His will, working in you that which is well pleasing in His sight" (Heb 13:20). Here are seven passages which speak of the inward workings of God's grace; or in other words of experimental salvation.

"Lord, You will ordain peace for us: for You also have wrought all our works in us" (Isa 26:12). Is there an echoing response in our heart to this, my reader? Is your repentance something deeper than the remorse and tears of the natural man? Does it have its root in a divine work of grace which the Holy Spirit has wrought in your soul? Is your believing in Christ something more than an intellectual one? Is your relation to Him something more vital than what some act of yours has brought about, having been made one with Him by the power and operation of the Holy Spirit? Is your love for Christ something more than a pious sentiment, like that of the Romanist who sings of the "gentle" and "sweet" Jesus? Does your love for Him proceed from an altogether new nature, that God has created within you? Can you really say with the Psalmist: "Whom have I in heaven but You? And there is none upon earth that I desire beside You."

Is your profession accompanied by true meekness and lowliness of heart? It is easy to say, "I am an unworthy and unprofitable creature." But do you realize yourself to be such? Do you feel yourself to be "less than the least of all saints?" Paul did! If you do not; if instead, you deem yourself superior to the rank and file of Christians, who bemoan their failures, confess their weakness, and cry, "O wretched man that I am!"—there is grave reason to conclude you are a stranger to God!

That which distinguishes genuine godliness from human religiousness is this: the one is internal, the other external. Christ complained of the Pharisees, "Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence!" (Matt 23:25). A carnal religion is all on the surface. It is at the heart God looks—and with the heart God deals. Concerning His people He says: "I will put My laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them" (Heb 10:16).

"Lord, You will ordain peace for us: for You also have wrought all our works in us." How humbling is this to the pride of man! It makes everything of God—and nothing of the creature!

The tendency of human nature the world over, is to be self-sufficient and self-satisfied; to say with the Laodiceans, "I am rich, and increased with goods—and have need of nothing" (Rev 3:17). But here is something to humble us—and empty us of pride. Since God has wrought all our works in us, then we have no ground for boasting. "For who makes you different from anyone else? What do you have that you did not receive? And if you did receive it, why do you boast as though you did not?" (1 Cor 4:7).

And who are the ones in whom God thus works? From the divine side—His favored, chosen, redeemed people. From the human side—those who, in themselves have no claim whatever on His notice; who are destitute of any merit; who have everything in them to provoke His holy wrath; those who are miserable failures in their lives, and utterly depraved and corrupt in their persons. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound—and did for them and in them what they would not and could not do for themselves!

And what is it which God "works" in His people? All their works!

First, He quickens them: "It is the Spirit who quickens; the flesh profits nothing" (John 6:63). "He gave us a new birth by the message of truth" (James 1:18).

Second, He bestows repentance: "Him has God exalted with His right hand to be a Prince and a Savior, for to give repentance to Israel" (Acts 5:31). "God has granted even the Gentiles repentance unto life" (Acts 11:18; 2 Tim 2:25).

Third, He gives faith: "For by grace are you saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God" (Eph 2:8).

Fourth, He grants a spiritual understanding: "And we know the Son of God has come, and has given us an understanding, that we may know Him who is true" (I John 5:20).

Fifth, He effectuates our service: "I labored more abundantly than they all: yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me" (I Cor 15:10).

Sixth, He secures our perseverance: "who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation" (I Pet 1:5).

Seventh, He produces our fruit: "From Me is your fruit found" (Hosea 14:8). "The fruit of the Spirit" (Gal 5:22). Yes, He has wrought all our works in us!

Why has God thus "wrought all our works in us?"

First, because unless He had done so—all would have eternally perished! (Rom 9:29). We were "without strength," unable to meet God's righteous demands. Therefore, in sovereign grace, He did for us—what we ought but could not do for ourselves.

Second, that all the glory might be His. God is a jealous God. He says so. His honor He will not share with another. By this means He secures all the praise, and we have no ground for boasting.

Third, that our salvation might be effectually and securely accomplished. Were any part of our salvation left to us—it would be neither effectual nor secure. Whatever man touches he spoils: failure is written across everything he attempts. But what God does is perfect and lasts forever: "I know that everything God does will endure forever; nothing can be added to it and nothing taken from it. God does it so that men will revere him" (Eccl 3:14).

But how may I be sure that my works have been "wrought in me" by God? Mainly by their effects. If you have been born again, you have a new nature within. This new nature is spiritual and contrary to the flesh—contrary in its desires and aspirations. Because the old and new natures are contrary to each other, there is a continual war between them. Are you conscious of this inward conflict?

If your repentance is a God-wrought one, then you abhor yourself. If your repentance is a genuine and spiritual one, then you marvel that God did not cast you into hell long ago. If your repentance is the gift of Christ, then you daily mourn the wretched returns which you make to God's wondrous grace; you hate sin, you sorrow in secret before God for your manifold transgressions. Not simply do you do so at conversion, but daily do so now.

If your faith is a God-communicated one, it is evidenced by your turning away from all creature confidences, by a renunciation of your own self-righteousness, by a repudiation of all your own works. If your faith is "the faith of God's elect" (Titus 1:1), then you are resting alone on Christ as the ground of your acceptance before God. If your faith is the result of "the operation of God," then you implicitly believe His Word, you receive it with meekness, you crucify reason, and accept all He has said with childlike simplicity.

If your love for Christ is the fruit of the Spirit (Gal 5:25), then it evidences itself by constantly seeking to please Him, and by abstaining from what you know is displeasing to Him: in a word, by an obedient walk. If your love for Christ is the love of "the new man," then you pant after Him, you yearn for communion with Him above everything else. If your love for Christ is the same in kind (though not in degree) as His love for you, then you are eagerly looking forward to His glorious appearing, when He shall come again to receive His people unto Himself, that they may be forever with the Lord.

May the grace of spiritual discernment be given the reader to see whether his Christian profession is real or a sham; whether his hope is built upon the Rock of Ages or the quicksands of human resolutions, efforts, decisions, or feelings; whether, in short, his salvation is "Of the Lord"—or the vain imagination of his own deceitful heart!

Judging Others

“Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven. Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”

He also told them this parable: “Can the blind lead the blind? Will they not both fall into a pit? The student is not above the teacher, but everyone who is fully trained will be like their teacher.

“Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, ‘Brother, let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when you yourself fail to see the plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.

[Luke 6:37-42 NIV]

5 THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW:

1. Like it or not, we are ALL sinners: As the Scriptures say, “No one is righteous—not even one. No one is truly wise; no one is seeking God. All have turned away; all have become useless. No one does good, not a single one.” (Romans 3:10-12 NLT)

2. The punishment for sin is death: When Adam sinned, sin entered the world. Adam’s sin brought death, so death spread to everyone, for everyone sinned. (Romans 5:12 NLT)

3. Jesus is our only hope: But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners. (Romans 5:8 NLT) For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 6:23 NLT)

4. SALVATION is by GRACE through FAITH in JESUS: God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. (Ephesians 2:8-10 NLT)

5. Accept Jesus and receive eternal life: If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. (Romans 10:9 NLT) But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God. (John 1:12 NLT) And this is what God has testified: He has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have God’s Son does not have life. (1 John 5:11-12 NLT)

Read the Bible for yourself. Allow the Lord to speak to you through his Word. YOUR ETERNITY IS AT STAKE!

Jefferson, the brilliant renaissance man who had much to do with the founding of the US, also was largely responsible for Missouri becoming a part of it; as commemorated here in the Mo. History Museum in St. Louis. (Replica of Lindbergh's Spirit of St. Louis hangs in background.) Jefferson, a proponent of democratic, small government, nevertheless exercised what his opponents described as dictatorial power when he purchased the Louisiana Territory without the approval of Congress, helping to initiate what would become an American empire. And of course this man whose most famous words are"...all men are created equal..." had some issues regarding slavery. We are all still challenged by his lament: "...I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just, and that his justice cannot rest forever."

I visited my flickr friend Mike, in Houston a couple days ago. He's a recently retired Police Officer. He's a really great guy, in spite of the fact that I really don't like cops. Aren't most Cops the most hypocritical people on the planet? They stop you for going 26 MPH in a 25 zone, and act like you are a total piece of shit who's out to KILL someone!!! So, he drove me around Houston for a couple of days. Thanks Mike for showing me some fantastic places, but oh my GOD, I can't believe I'm still alive!!!!!! It's funny how Cops pull you over for blowing a yellow light, and act like you're so horrible! He drove me around for a couple of days, and I can't believe I'm still alive! Oh... Did you want to get a shot of that??? No problem... I'll just drive up and over this curb, through this playground, through the lobby of this nursing home, and get you where you need to be to get your shot! Thanks Mike. I got my shot.

NOUN:

pl. du·plic·i·ties

a. Deliberate deceptiveness in behavior or speech.

b. An instance of deliberate deceptiveness; double-dealing.

1. The quality or state of being twofold or double.

Matthew 24:1 And Jesus went out, and departed from the temple: and his disciples came to him for to shew him the buildings of the temple. 2 And Jesus said unto them, See ye not all these things? verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down. 3 And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?

4 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you. 5 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many. 6 And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. 7 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. 8 All these are the beginning of sorrows. 9 Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake. 10 And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another. 11 And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many. 12 And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold. 13 But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. 14 And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come. 15 When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:) 16 Then let them which be in Judaea flee into the mountains: 17 Let him which is on the housetop not come down to take any thing out of his house: 18 Neither let him which is in the field return back to take his clothes. 19 And woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck in those days! 20 But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the sabbath day: 21 For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be. 22 And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened. 23 Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not. 24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect. 25 Behold, I have told you before. 26 Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not. 27 For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. 28 For wheresoever the carcase is, there will the eagles be gathered together. 29 Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken: 30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. 31 And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.

32 Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh: 33 So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors. 34 Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled. 35 Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away. 36 But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only. 37 But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. 38 For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, 39 And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. 40 Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left. 41 Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken, and the other left. 42 Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come. 43 But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up. 44 Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh. 45 Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season? 46 Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing. 47 Verily I say unto you, That he shall make him ruler over all his goods. 48 But and if that evil servant shall say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming; 49 And shall begin to smite his fellowservants, and to eat and drink with the drunken; 50 The lord of that servant shall come in a day when he looketh not for him, and in an hour that he is not aware of, 51 And shall cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Revelation 16:12-16

12 And the sixth angel poured out his vial upon the great river Euphrates; and the water thereof was dried up, that the way of the kings of the east might be prepared. 13 And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet. 14 For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty. 15 Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame. 16 And he gathered them together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon.

“Miranda says hell does not exist;

Miranda says the devil has been destroyed;

Miranda says sin does not exist;

Miranda said he has done greater things then Jesus;

Miranda said “I am greater then Jesus.”

Jose Luis De Jesus Miranda is a nut case who claims to be Jesus Christ incarnate in modern times. The Word of God expressly states in Mark 13:21-22, “And then if any man shall say to you, Lo, here is Christ; or, lo, he is there; believe him not: For false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall shew signs and wonders, to seduce, if it were possible, even the elect.” End of quote.

Evidences of Salvation

by James Smith

Many real believers are often distressed and troubled, on account of . . .

the weakness of their faith,

the strength of their fears, and

their mistakes in reference to their interest in Christ.

They look for too much in self, and for too little in Christ.

To avoid soul deception — they are apt to run into gloom and despondency. They look for certain evidences in themselves, and because they do not find those they look for — they conclude they have none; and giving way to the temptations of Satan, they . . .

distress their own souls,

dishonor the Lord Jesus, and

reflect badly on the grace of God.

They doubt not the ability of Christ — but they question his willingness to save. If the testimony of scripture assures me he is able to save — it is to encourage me to approach him and cast my soul upon him — and if he assures me he will never cast out — it is to disperse my fears, remove my doubts, and draw me to his mercy-seat with confidence and courage. There is no saving religion in doubting — though many who are truly godly do doubt. Slavish fear never honors a God of love — yet many who desire to honor him give way to groundless fears.

1. One evidence of true salvation is CONVICTION OF SIN. Conviction of sin in the conduct — and of sin in the heart. We are all sinners — but only a few know what sin is, and what a fearful thing it is to be a sinner. Sin is . . .

the breach of the divine law,

an insult offered to every one of the divine attributes,

and that horrible thing which God hates.

Sin . . .

is rooted in our nature,

grows with our growth,

strengthens with our strength,

flows from our hearts as naturally as water from a fountain, or light from the body of the sun.

Every action we have performed,

every word we have spoken,

every thought we have conceived—

has been defiled by sin, and deserves eternal death!

The nature of sin is most dreadful, and the effects of sin are most fearful. But man untaught of God has no such views of sin, or of himself as polluted by it; but when the Holy Spirit quickens and enlightens the immortal mind, when he brings home the law as the standard of holiness and the rule of conduct — then the sinner discovers his state, and fears the consequences. He is alarmed, distressed, and inquires, "Who, what can save me?" He fears his sins are too numerous and aggravated to be pardoned, being ignorant of the extent of the grace of God, and the infinite merit of the blood of Christ. He fears presumption — and he dreads despair. He cannot laugh at sin or longer trifle with eternity; he can no more dare the justice or slight the mercy of God. He is concerned for his safety, being conscious of his danger. He longs for a pardon, being convinced of his guilt. He trembles at the thought of justice — but hopes when he hears of mercy. Sensible of his lost condition, he presents the heartfelt prayer, "God be merciful to me a sinner!"

But we are not to judge our conviction of sin by its depths — but by its nature. If it drives us to despair, then it is natural. But if it drives us to Jesus, then it is spiritual. If your conviction . . .

leads you to see your need of a Savior,

prevents your resting on anything but Christ Jesus,

leads you frankly to confess your crimes before God,

and to seek for salvation solely by the grace of God—

then they are spiritual convictions, and the evidence of spiritual life. None could produce them, but the Holy Spirit; and none ever experience them, but those whose names are written in the Lamb's book of life!

2. In close connection with conviction of sin, is hatred to sin, loathing ourselves on account of sin. If we see sin in the light of the Lord — then we must hate it. If we see ourselves as polluted and defiled by sin — then we must loathe ourselves on account of it. Finding sin to be rooted in our nature, and seeing it occasionally break out notwithstanding our striving and watching against it — will stop our mouths from boasting, and prevent our excusing ourselves. We shall see sin as our fault — as well as our disease; as our crime — as much as our misery. And feeling inclined at times to favor it, and secretly wishing we were at liberty to indulge in it — will make us abhor ourselves and repent in dust and ashes! The former is from the corruption of nature — and the latter from the principle of divine grace.

The Christian hates sin in all — but mostly in himself; and while he wishes the world to be freed from it — he would give a world if he could but get rid of it! It is sin in himself, which grieves him:

sin in his prayers,

sin in his praises,

sin in his purposes,

sin in his duties,

sin in all he does!

And seeing no hope of complete sanctification on this side the grave, he cries, "I loathe it, I loathe it, I would not live always!" As sin is forbidden, he dares not indulge it. As the object of his hatred, he naturally forsakes it. He cannot but lament that sin is in his nature, and grieve before God when it appears in his conduct. If sin is the object of your hatred, if self is loathed because it is sinful — then it is evident you are born of God; for except a man be born from above — he cannot loathe self, hate sin, and forsake it. In order to do this, he must have a new nature, and that nature must be holy and divine.

3. An appetite for divine things is a scriptural evidence of grace. "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst after righteousness — for they shall be filled." If we can find satisfaction, pleasure, and delight only in the things of the world — then we are dead in sin; dead while we live. But if instead thereof, we are thirsting for God, to . . .

enjoy his presence,

feel his love,

receive his blessing, and

walk in the light of his countenance —

if we are hungering for Jesus as the bread of life,

and if nothing but Jesus himself can satisfy us —

then we are certainly blessed.

"Blessed are those who hunger and thirst after righteousness — for they shall be filled." This promise is plain, positive, and certain; and every hungry soul may derive comfort therefrom. When Jesus is the chief object of our desire, and the blessings he communicates are the principle things in our estimation — then there is divine life in the soul. For dead men have no desire or appetite for natural things; so people spiritually dead have no appetite for spiritual things. If nothing but Christ can satisfy us — then we "have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God!" 1 Peter 1:23

4. An entire willingness to be saved in God's way; that is, by free grace through the blood of Jesus — is an evidence of divine life in the soul. No man in a state of nature is willing to be saved as a poor debtor by a Surety; as a miserable sinner by a gracious Savior. Man would rather perish in sin, than be saved in this way! Hence our Redeemer testified, "You will not come unto me that you might have life." "The carnal mind is enmity against God, it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be."

Self, works, and merit — must be entirely renounced! We must heartily surrender ourselves into the hands of Jesus to be . . .

washed in his blood,

clothed in his righteousness,

and sanctified by his Spirit —

or we reject God's method of salvation.

But if we are willing to do this, there can be no doubt but God has been working in us, to will and to do of his good pleasure. The promise in our experience is then fulfilled, "Your people shall be willing in the day of your power." Fallen human nature will not approve of God's plan, which makes man nothing — and Christ all in all. Nor will the carnal mind accept salvation on any such terms. Consequently if we are willing, heartily willing to be saved from wrath through him, and prove that willingness by our conduct — we doubtless have the Holy Spirit in us.

5. If in addition to this, we are made honest and SINCERE; and being sensible of the ignorance of our minds and deceitfulness of our hearts — we come to the light of God's word, and to his glorious throne, praying, "Search me, O God, and know my heart, try me, and know my thoughts; and see if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the everlasting way!" The sincere Christian dreads deception, and desires to make his "calling and election sure;" he shuns presumption, and would avoid the possibility of mistake. He therefore, bares his conscience to the word of God, and would not play the hypocrite upon any consideration.

Honesty and sincerity of heart in reference to our eternal concerns, is a most important blessing; none possess it but those who are "called, and chosen, and faithful;" and if we are made honest in this sense, it is the grace of God which brings salvation that has made us so, and it is clear we are called with a holy calling.

6. FAITH in Jesus is an evidence of salvation; not believing that he is my Savior, that he "loved me and gave himself for me;" for this is rather the effect of faith than faith itself. Faith is the eye of the soul which discovers the blessing which Jesus has to bestow; and the hand which is stretched out to receive it. Believing in Jesus is . . .

venturing my soul upon his work,

trusting my whole self in his hands,

committing myself to him to be saved in his way, to his glory, as he is revealed in the everlasting gospel.

I feel that I am a sinner, and subscribe to all that God says in his holy word, respecting man as a sinner. I hear of Jesus as both able and willing to save, and I go to him in the exercises of my soul and cry, "Lord, save me!" I gather his answer from his word, and am enabled to lay hold on it by the Holy Spirit.

It requires no depth of wisdom, or mighty effort of mind to believe in Jesus. We simply . . .

credit his word,

confide in his faithfulness,

trust his atonement, and

look for the mercy of God unto eternal life.

Believing in him — we confess him as the Savior God has appointed, the Savior on whom we rely; and if we "confess with the mouth the Lord Jesus, and believe in the heart that God has raised him from the dead — we shall be saved."

Reader, believe on the Lord Jesus Christ — and you shall be saved, for "Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life — but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God's wrath remains on him." John 3:36

Are you afraid? Do doubts arise in your mind? The difficulty in your mind arises from misapprehension. You needed a Savior, the gospel informs you of Jesus, who is just suited to your need, and assures you that he will receive and save you. And what is faith? Just receiving this statement and acting upon it. It is . . .

going to Jesus as directed,

receiving Christ as he is presented,

looking to him as invited, and

trusting in him as you are exhorted to do.

Every looking Israelite was healed, and every looking sinner shall be saved — the very looking to Jesus is faith, and proves your saving interest in the promise, "whoever believes shall receive remission of sins."

7. Love is an evidence of salvation.

Love to JESUS is an evidence of interest in the covenant of mercy — love flows from faith. If I believe what the Scriptures say of Jesus, as to the glory of his person, the tenderness of his heart, and the fullness of his grace — then I shall go to him to prove the truth of these important statements, and proving the truth of these precious declarations — how can I do otherwise than love him. If I question his loveliness or his love to me — then I cannot love him; and this is the cause why many of the Lord's little ones droop, and doubt, and fear. They question the truth of his word, and consequently the love of Jesus to them; this contracts and hardens the heart, and if they would give a world to feel love to Jesus. They cannot feel it, until brought cordially to admit the truth of what the scriptures testify in reference to the love and loveliness of Jesus — and then their frozen hearts will melt, and they will love him, because he first loved them.

But we must not always judge of love by warmth of feeling. There has been much warmth, where there has been but little sincere love. We must judge by the habitual state of our heart toward him.

Do you desire above all things to love him, and to be conformed to his will? Are you willing to part with all things for him, and unreservedly trust yourself with him? This is love; when I can trust my eternal interests in his hands, and endeavor constantly to keep his commandments.

Love to HIS PEOPLE because they are his, and are like him — is an infallible evidence of the new birth. "We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren." If I love the picture — it is because I know and love the original. I could not love saint as a saint — if I did not know and love Jesus as the Savior of his people. If saints were more like Christ, then we would love them more. But as it is, though they are surrounded with infirmities, we love them; and are consequently entitled to be numbered with them, and to participate in all their joys and sorrows.

If we love Jesus supremely, and saints affectionately — then it is clear that we are created anew in Christ Jesus unto good works.

8. Humility proves we are the blessed of the Lord. If we are humbled under a sense of our sin, ignorance, and desert — we shall . . .

flee for refuge to the Lord Jesus,

receive with meekness the engrafted word;

and ascribe all our salvation to grace!

Nothing but the power of the Spirit of God can effectually . . .

humble the proud heart of man,

shut his mouth before God,

cause him with self-abhorrence to cry, "Guilty, guilty!"

and bring him to receive the kingdom of God as a little child.

Man will be something — but grace makes him nothing. It is the greatest mortification to proud nature, to be indebted to another for salvation, or to go to Heaven as a poor pauper, entirely dependant on the work of Jesus.

To renounce our own judgment,

to submit to be taught of God,

to believe the Word because God speaks it, and

to cleave to Jesus with full purpose of heart —

is genuine humility. The man has nothing to say against the demands or sentence of the holy law; and nothing to object to the provision or requirements of the glorious gospel. But he casts himself entirely on the . . .

unmerited mercy,

rich grace, and

promised compassion of Jehovah.

To this man, will Jehovah look with pleasure and approbation, and with him will he take up his abode. He walks humbly with his God. "Though the Lord is high — yet has he respect unto the lowly." "Blessed are the poor in in spirit — for theirs is the kingdom or Heaven."

9. He who is truly humbled under a sense of sin — pants, prays, and seeks for HOLINESS. He is as much concerned to be sanctified, as saved. He sees . . .

a beauty in holiness — and longs to possess it,

deformity in sin — and seeks to be delivered from it.

He mourns over the sins of others — but more over his own sin. Sin and Hell are always associated in his mind. He views . . .

sin as the root — and Hell as the tree;

sin as the fountain — and Hell as the stream naturally flowing from it.

Every man creates his own Hell — but no man can create his own Heaven. The true Christian must long to be holy — the precepts require it, and the principle of life within him pants for it with inextinguishable ardor. If he could but be holy, he would be happy, therefore he cries, "I shall be satisfied when I awake up in your likeness!" He avoids sin — and desires to be arrayed in all the graces of the Spirit, in all the beauties of holiness. He would be the personification of faith, love, humility and godly zeal. This desire for holiness is a certain evidence of godliness; for "without holiness no man shall see the Lord."

10. Godly FEAR is a covenant blessing, and a proof that we are of God. If we fear God with a filial fear, we fear to offend him and desire above all things to please him. It is not what will men say — but shall I hereby please God? We are taught in his word how to walk and to please him, and godly fear always prompts us to aim at this end. We shall fear to dishonor him in the world, the church, and our families. God is jealous of his glory — and so is a godly man. He desires to glorify him in the body, soul, and spirit, which are God's. He does not run at random — but prays, "What will You have me to do?" He does not make excuse for infirmities — but sighs out, "O that my ways were directed to keep your statutes always!" His motto is, "No peace with sin — no truce with Satan — no friendship with the world!" because these would lead him to dishonor God. He would rather suffer pain, than . . .

grieve the Holy Spirit,

dishonor his heavenly Father,

or wound the Savior.

And when he sees others careless, loose, and licentious; indulging their lusts and giving way to temptations, he says, "I do not do so, because of the fear of the Lord." He startles at sin with, "How shall I do this great wickedness, and sin against God!"

11. Attachment to the WORD OF GOD is a proof that we are of God. Real believers always prize the bible — they love to read it, to think over its contents, and to enjoy its communications. It is as necessary for their souls — as food is for their bodies; they often esteem it more than their necessary food. They would sooner part with all their dainties, than with their bibles. They read it as truth, they believe it as containing the mind of God; and when tempted to think differently, they are grieved and distressed. If the word of God is neglected, they condemn themselves, mourn over their folly before God, and crave his forgiveness. They stay themselves upon the word of God — when assaulted by Satan. They look to it for direction — when bewildered in their path. It is to them as Goliath's sword was to David, for they all say, "There is none like it."

They love the Word because it . . .

sets forth Jesus,

reveals the mind of God,

marks out the path of duty,

affords rich consolations,

and contains a mine of wealth.

They live . . .

believing its doctrines,

trusting its promises,

walking by its precepts, and

deriving encouragement and caution from its histories.

"O how I love your law, it is my meditation all the day. Except your law bad been my delight, my soul had almost dwelt in silence."

12. DISSATISFACTION with everything worldly on account of the imperfections discovered, is another evidence of real spirituality. Nothing under Heaven can satisfy the Christian. Having gone the round, he turns away with disgust and exclaims, "Whom have I in Heaven but you, and there is none upon earth that I desire beside you!" He can find full satisfaction only . . .

in the presence of God,

in the enjoyment of his Savior,

and in the duties of Christianity.

Everything besides appears empty, polluted, and vain. He may be occasionally attracted, and for a season led away from his resting place; but feeling dissatisfied, uneasy, and grieved, he says, "Return unto your rest, O my soul. There's nothing here deserves my joys — there's nothing like my God!"

If nothing can satisfy us but God, he will never put us off with less than himself. The wisdom, justice, the grace discovered in such a state of soul, is from himself; and he will never forsake the work of his own hands. We may learn from, and profit by, his works — but we can only rest in, and be satisfied with

himself. "The Lord is our inheritance. He is our portion forever!"

13. A spirit of PRAYER is from the Lord, and is a proof of our saving interest in his love. "Behold he prays!" If desire for prayer is produced, and the throne of grace is frequented — we are the blessed of the Lord. Prayer is the Christian's breath — he prays as naturally and as habitually as he breathes. And we would as soon think of a man living without respiration — as of a Christian living without prayer.

But do not mistake, prayer is not a form of words — but a sense of need, and a petition for supply. The believer often prays without speaking — while many speak in a form without praying. He goes to Jehovah as naturally as a child to his Father, and as frequently as he feels his wants. He lives in constant fellowship with Heaven. Sometimes he can only sigh or groan — and at other times he can plead with liberty and power. Sometimes he can only look towards the throne of grace — and at others he can wrestle with God and prevail.

His heart inspires his petitions,

the Word of God regulates his desires,

to Jesus he looks as his Intercessor before the throne, and

he continues in prayer notwithstanding discouragements.

He often feels . . .

his heart hard,

his thoughts perplexed,

his mind bewildered, and

his spirit lukewarm.

He is tempted to believe that it is no use for such a one, in such a frame to attempt to pray; but he must confess his faults, tell out his fears, and entreat for mercy in a Savior's name. And though often persuaded that he does not pray, that his attempts cannot be accepted, and that he has neither the gift nor the spirit of prayer — yet he still attempts to find access, and to breathe his sorrows there.

Mere formalists are generally satisfied with their prayers, and too often rest in them. But the real Christian sees his to be so impure, imperfect, and worthless — that he dares not trust in anything but Jesus, his righteousness, and blood.

Can you live without prayer? Can your discouragements make you give over attempting? Are you satisfied with your prayers? Or do you see that they, even the best of them, need to be washed in the precious blood of Jesus? If so, you have light, life, and spirituality; and surely you are one of those whom Jesus loves. Private prayer, from a sense of need, continued under all discouragements, is an evidence that we are the children of God.

14. The CONFLICT between the flesh and the Spirit, is an evidence of grace. If we have a daily exposition of the seventh chapter of the Romans within us — then we are as Paul was. This most Christians have in a greater or less degree: they would do good — but evil is present with them. They would serve the law of God — but are led captive by the law of sin. They hate what they often do — and love what they cannot attain to. They would be holy — but they sin; yet they never excuse sin in themselves, or endeavor to quote scripture to cloak it.

The flesh and the spirit carry on a constant warfare, so that the believer often feels wretched and longs for deliverance. He cannot do the things that he would. Sin will fight when it cannot reign. The warfare will only cease with death.

We daily discover how the flesh misleads us, and we find it spoils all we attempt for God's glory. It creeps into our motives, or turns us aside from our rule, or puffs us up at the end. Thus we feel . . .

the daily need the open fountain,

the renewings of the Holy Spirit, and

a fresh pardon from the hands of Jesus.

The flesh would make us truly miserable — but the riches, plenitude, and permanence of grace prevents it. The love of Jesus is the same — he witnesses the conflict, sympathizes with the sufferer, and cheers him with the assurance, "My grace is sufficient for you!"

The spirit desires only to be devoted to, ruled by, and employed for the Lord; and longs for the happy deliverance promised in God's word. Therefore, the flesh and spirit will strive against each other until the day of death!

15. Separation from the WORLD, from a discovery of its vanity and enmity to God — is an evidence of grace. The world will love its own — but saints are not of the world, even as Jesus was not of the world. They see that it is opposed to God in its spirit, maxims, and works; and that all the cry is "No God for me!" They cannot join with the ungodly world — they become strangers and pilgrims, and desire to leave it. They . . .

pity its state,

condemn its spirit,

protest against its practices,

and yet seek its good.

They witness for God in it, and to it. They sigh and cry because of its abominations, and long for the period when the earth shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption, and there shall be no more curse!

A worldly spirit indulged and enjoyed, is the evidence of a worldly man. But deadness to the world, sympathy with Jesus who was persecuted and crucified in the world, and living above the world in fellowship and communion with God — is the evidence of a spiritual man. The world knows not, loves not the Christian; and the Christian loves not the world, knowing that if any man is in friendship with the world, that he is an enemy of God — "if any man loves the world — the love of the Father is not in him." The whole world lies in the wicked one, how important then to be delivered from the present evil world; and to have our affections set on things above, where Christ sits at the right hand of God.

"Those who are in the flesh, mind and enjoy the things of the flesh; but those who are in the Spirit, mind the things of the spirit."

16. The Lord's people are CHASTENED FOR SIN, and cannot go on in transgression without correction. An enlightened conscience armed with God's word will smite them, the ministry of the word will pierce and penetrate their hearts, and they prove it to be an evil and bitter thing to wander from the Lord their God. Providence joins with Scripture in reproving them for their folly, and the Lord follows them with the rod until they fall at his feet, acknowledge their transgression, and crave his forgiveness.

Mere professors may be allowed to go on and escape the rod when they sin — but "those whom the Lord loves — he chastens; and scourges EVERY one whom he receives." And the Christian will justify his God in using discipline, though it may be sharp — and will bow and listen to the rod, though it speaks against him.

To lay low at the Lord's feet while he smites,

to cleave to him when he frowns,

to plead with him when he speaks against us —

proves that our principles are divine, that we have the Spirit of God, and are heirs of glory!

O for much of that meek humility which . . .

closes the mouth from speaking against any of God's ways,

opens the ear to listen to all his communications,

lays the heart at his feet, and

covers the face with holy shame before him, on account of conscious unworthiness!

The lofty mountain of a proud heart will be dry, withered, and barren; but the low valley of an humble soul will be watered with the dew of Heaven from above, and bear fruit to Jehovah's praise.

"By humility and the fear of the Lord, are riches, and honor, and life."

"Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of God."

"Despise not the chastening of the Almighty."

17. Looking, waiting, and longing for the SECOND COMING of Jesus, is a scriptural evidence of saintship. Jesus has promised to come again and receive us to himself, he has commanded us to be ready for his glorious appearing, and he has assured us that "to those who look for him, he will come the second time without sin, unto salvation."

Love must desire the presence of the beloved object, and must desire his glorification; and he is coming "to be glorified in his saints, and admired in all those who believe." He is now in the Heavens, waiting until his enemies to be made his footstool. The Heavens must retain him, "until the times of the restitution of all things which God has spoken by the mouth of his holy prophets." Faith believes the statements;

hope expects their accomplishment; and

love looks and longs for the time; crying "Come, Lord Jesus, come quickly!"

He will certainly come, to the joy of all such — but all his enemies shall be ashamed. There are some things connected with the coming of Jesus, which may make our flesh tremble — but . . .

to see him as he is;

to be like him; to be with him;

to swell his train and his triumphs;

to witness his glories; and

to participate in his blessedness —

is certainly an object of desire to every believer. We wait for him at the Son of God from Heaven, who has preserved us from the wrath to come!

18. But after all is said, there is no evidence like HABITUAL FELLOWSHIP WITH GOD. To walk with God as our Father, communicating to him all that we fear, feel, and desire; and receiving from him vigor, comfort, and daily preservation — is an evidence which can never be questioned. We walk by faith, that is,

believing his word,

trusting his grace,

and doing his will.

And though darkness and gloom may occasionally surround and even distress us — yet we know that we are of God. It is as natural to us to feed on his word, desire his presence, and seek his love; as it is to the natural child to believe the word, enjoy the presence, and be happy in the love of a kind and tender parent. Our God is love, and believing this, we rely on him, walk with him, and look for his mercy unto eternal life.

Beloved reader, endeavor to realize the truth and importance of scripture; to live and act as in the immediate presence of God; and to refresh the mind daily by a view of the perfect work of Jesus, on the ground of which God justifies the ungodly, and walks with poor sinners in peace and love. Stand out from the world — be separate; live by faith, believing God's gracious testimony; lay humbly before the Lord, under a sense of unworthiness; and endeavor to realize daily, your union to Christ, and relation to God as a Father through him. So shall peace be with you, and love with faith from our Lord Jesus Christ, who is our only hope.

But a caution may be necessary; these pages may be read by a self-assured professor, one who has light in the head — but no grace in the heart; who substitutes notions — for divine operations; and a sound creed — for a converted soul.

My fellow sinner, unless your heart is broken for sin, and broken from sin; unless your religion leads you to Jesus as a poor, wretched, hell-deserving sinner; and unless you are united to him, and his life is manifest in you — your religion is but like the dream of a night vision! It may he pleasing — but it will prove a fearful delusion. Nothing but heart work in religion will stand! Mere head knowledge will vanish away, every false covering will one day be stripped off, and unless you are clothed in the righteousness of Jesus, and internally sanctified by the Holy Spirit — a dreadful sentence will be passed on you, never to be repealed. O fearful case, to be dreaming of happiness — and to find misery — misery as deep and lasting as the desert of sin, and the existence of God!

Is it a poor thoughtless sinner that is reading these pages? I have a message from God unto you. "Except you are born again, and converted to God — you cannot see the kingdom of Heaven." If you have not the Spirit of Christ — then you are none of his. If you love not the Lord Jesus Christ in sincerity and truth — then you will be accursed when the Lord comes! Unless you are found in Christ — your death will be melancholy, and your eternal destiny indescribably dreadful!

There is mercy to be obtained NOW — this is emphatically "the day of salvation!" But the day will soon close — and a tremendous night of darkness, anger, and woe will set in upon you. A neglected bible, a slighted gospel, a rejected Savior — will all witness against you! And through eternity, you will condemn your present course and curse your folly.

Satan is seeking your destruction, your own hearts are deceiving you, and perhaps the conduct of some professors may cause you to stumble; but remember, "Every man must give an account of HIMSELF to God; and receive according to the deeds done in the body, whether they be good or evil."

Look well to the foundation on which you build your hope; dig deep and lay that foundation on a rock — even on Christ Jesus. And then you may be happy in time — for you are safe for eternity. "Whoever believes on him shall not be ashamed." He will appear to their joy, and their enemies shall be confounded. Hear then the warning voice, act upon the directions given you in the gospel, make sure work for eternity, and all shall be well.

View On Black.

I was backstage in the show this evening, and my intern was having a particularly flaky day and was not keeping track of her scene changes.

At one change during the first act, she was so buried in her book that she didn't even look up as I stood beside her. The scene change happens during a silent blackout, so rather than whisper to her in the quiet, I scratched her arm lightly through her sweater, scritch scritch like, "hey there, you ready to do this?"

She reeled on me and loudly hissed, "Don't you ever touch me!"

I whispered "okay," and went back to work. But really, I thought it was a strange overreaction. If she doesn't like to be touched, that's fine....but she could have told me that during a rehearsal three months ago. I don't know if I've ever had reason to touch her before, but if it's that big of an issue it's her burden to tell me.

If she doesn't want a shoulder-tap, she needs to be aware of her surroundings: listening for cues, and watching the movement around her. If she's not going to use her eyes and ears, I don't have any other ways to communicate with her. You can't taste a scene change; I guess I could fart on her....

For the rest of the act, I made sure to keep a foot between us whenever possible, but when you're trying to communicate backstage you really have to lean in to whisper audibly. But I was careful not to touch her again.

When intermission came, I had all but forgotten about it until the Stage Manager came up to me and said something.

Apparently the intern formally complained. The Stage Manager told me not to touch her again.

I was really confused and pissed about the whole thing. I didn't do anything. I didn't touch her in an inappropriate place or a sexual manner. I didn't tickle her. I didn't claw her. I didn't use any pressure. In fact I didn't even touch her skin.

It made me feel like she was accusing me of sexual harassment or something. I felt sick and guilty. I tried to tell myself she just didn't like physical contact, and forget about it.

But the best part?

About a minute after the S.M. spoke to me, the intern came backstage and walked up to the actor that I was talking to - and stroked his bare arm. In the exact same spot that I had touched her. Right in front of me.

What. The. Fuck.

I don't even think she realized that it was a hypocritical slap in the face.

I have no idea what to make of that at all, but she seriously made me feel like some sort of skeezy disease.

From the shooting spot of I'm not a hypocrite

chasing cars around our heads.

Yeah, so this is because I haven't taken photos in DAYS, and because ever since I saw Sarah's photo, I've wanted to do one like it.

5 Favorite Songs! (Currently.)

1. Life is Beautiful by Vega 4. I've loved this song since it was featured in the My Sister's Keeper trailer - I think it really does describe life, and it can make me cry or smile.

2. Set Fire to the Third Bar by Snow Patrol. I really like Snow Patrol because of the pure emotion and beauty in their songs, and this one really captures the emotion of desire and loss. It's breathtaking.

3. Welcome to the Black Parade by My Chemical Romance. This song holds a special place in my heart because it reminds me of all the heroes in books I love (such as Harry Potter and The Hunger Games. It's also incredibly good and catchy, and the lyrics are so great.

4. No One Mourns the Wicked from Wicked the Musical. I ADORE this musical, and the book that it was adapted from, and this song is so incredible because it captures how people are hypocritical and wrong without even knowing. I think this is one flaw that so many people have, and Wicked captures it beautifully.

5. Run Freedom Run from Urinetown the Musical. This was the show I was just in, and this was my favorite song to sing in it. So much fun, and it has such a good message.

Parable of the straw and the beam. Gospel of Luke, 6, 41: "Why do you see the straw in your brother's eye and do not see the beam in your eye! "Or" How can you tell your brother, Brother, let me take away the straw in your eye, you who do not see the beam in yours? Hypocrite, first remove the beam from your eye, and then you will see how to remove the straw that is in your brother's eye. "

==Gaige’s Office==

Gaige overlooked his city from the window of his penthouse on the waterfront. He held a plastic cup in his hand, and sipped from its' paper straw. Penguin, sat at the desk, glass of wine in hand. Following his initial fall from grace (the details of which involved a sham trial, a bought jury and a kidnapped defense attorney), The Tiger Shark's properties were taken over by the mob and divided among its members. But in the wake of the Royal hostage situation and the firefight at the Sionis warehouse, it was now time for the keys to be handed back to their rightful owner.

“I’m overjoyed to be working alongside you again, Doctor. As you can see, I kept everything exactly as you left it," Cobblepot spoke, raising his glass of wine. "To the status quo."

"Hrn," Gaige grunted in displeasure as he noted the empty fish tank along the back wall. Nevertheless, he raised his blubber shake and clinked it against Cobblepot's own glass, toasting the successes that were sure to come. "Just one thing. If you screw me, undermine me or fuck with me in any way, I will kill you. Just so we’re understood, ‘Mr Mayor.’”

“Naturally,” Cobblepot replied, placing the tips of his flipper-like fingers together.

==Clair Selton's Residence==

Jenna was dressed in a oversized pink dressing gown, and was drying her hair with a towel as she stepped into the bedroom: Gar, was standing over by Josie's crib, running his finger across his daughter's tufts of orange hair as she slept.

"Oh, sorry, I didn't know you were-" Jenna started.

"It's alright," Gar smiled gently. "Hey, come here," he motioned. Jenna complied, and stood at his side, watching the sleeping child wriggle back and forth.

"She's beautiful," Jenna stated.

"You should see her when she's spitting fireballs..." Gar smiled proudly. "Shower alright?"

"Bit too hot," she shrugged. "So, what happens now? What’s next for ‘The Misfits,’ I mean," Jenna inquired, resting her head on his shoulder.

“I don’t know,” Gar confessed. “Joey's been talking with Chuck, says he has some theories... Can't say it'll make much difference. Truth is... Drury’s always had something of a martyr complex, always wanted to be the one to make the sacrifice but fallen short ‘cause someone else beat him to it. I dunno. But I think taking down Carson finally had him at peace."

“Crud,” Jenna exclaimed suddenly, slapping her own forehead in disbelief. "The notes! I totally forgot about them- Davey must lifted them, or they slipped out at the warehouse, or maybe even at the ballroom... Edison will blow a fuse.”

“It’s fine,” Gar claimed, placing his arm across her back, as Jenna leaned in closer. "It's all gonna be fine."

==Gaige's Office==

David Wist escorted his charges into Gaige’s office, a large, oval room with tall glass windows and marble pillars. Flannegan dropped the magazine he was reading (obscuring the cover) and rose from his seat to greet them. Wist rolled his eyes at the excessive decadence of the location, and frowned. “You can throw as much money as you want at them, it doesn’t change a thing. These kids need their father, not a crime lord or a pirate,” he murmured to Flannegan. Neither Cammy, Axel or Kitten seemed to mind the decor however, admiring the extravagant water features with wide eyes.

“Well, I’ll be sure to forward that to the big man,” the Ratcatcher sneered. “Who are you, again?”

Wist sighed. “My name’s David-"

Before he had a change to finish his sentence, Flannegan reached into his holster, and pointed his gun at the green and yellow-suited man.

“Flannegan! Not that Dave,” Gaige barked, descending down the grand staircase, a harpoon in his hand.

“Right,” Flannegan nodded. “Can’t be too careful,” he murmured, sliding the gun back into its’ holster.

“This is your pad?” Axel whistled. “Why the hell did you stay at our place for so long?”

“For the warm feelings, clearly," Gaige said sardonically. "Here: your father wanted you to have this,” he added, reaching into a nearby chest and handing Axel a scruffy-looking rabbit.

“Really? Dad wanted me to have this?” Axel inquired, glancing at his sister, who would have surely appreciated the stuffed toy more.

“Yeah,” Gaige challenged him.

“Cool, I love it,” Axel nodded.

==The Clocktower==

It had been days since the attack on the Gotham Royal, and although things seemed to have settled down, Bruce was worried. Arkham remained impenetrable, Joker's endgame was still unclear and there was no word on the King of Cats nor Psycho Pirate's whereabouts. The 'Bat-Family,' as the group affectionately called one another, had gathered in Barbara's clocktower and had taken their seats in the briefing room, where large monitors displayed the Batman's findings thus far. Haley, Dick and Babs' three legged puppy, circled Batman as he spoke, oblivious to the importance of the matter, then took a nap at his feet.

“They should get a dinosaur in here. It’s not a Batcave without a T-Rex," Steph spoke to Tim.

"Shh," Cass shushed her from behind.

Jason leaned in from the other side. “You know what? Why settle for a robot? There’s a whole island of them out there, doing nothing.”

"I like your thinking," Steph agreed, before turning to the matter at hand.

“Thank you all for coming. So far, we’ve been able to ascertain that the Joker has seized control of Arkham Island. We don’t know for certain, but I have to assume he took advantage of the chaos at Arkham City, and then Nanda Parbat before making his move. He has two hostages that we know of: Doctor Jeremiah Arkham, and Leonard Fiasco, The Eraser. The upper echelon of this cabal, dubbed the Outcasts, consists of Joker, Scarecrow, who he appears to have recruited when he first took over Arkham, and Hunter Zolomon, Zoom. We have not yet been able to discern Zolomon’s ultimate goal, nor do we understand his interest in their main target: Drury Walker. While Joker has targeted Walker’s family in the past, and Crane has several grievances against him, Zoom has no such history. Though I could speculate that he seeks revenge for his mentor, Eobard Thawne's death, that wouldn’t seem to fit his profile; the accident that gave him his powers seems to have detached him from reality, in more ways than one.

Working under them, are these men: Dellbert Billings, the Spellbinder, who was recruited by them while incarcerated in Blackgate. He, has remained largely off the radar, so far only using his illusion technology to project a smokescreen over Arkham. Roger Hayden, the Psycho Pirate, and Karl Kyle, the King of Cats, both evaded capture at the Gotham Royal, while Julian Day, Abner Krill, and Ted Carson have all been taken into GCPD custody. We understand that Carson, current alias The Mothkiller, was not privy to the Outcast’s plans, but was used as a pawn to draw Walker out of hiding. His step-brother, Jacob, the Ant-Man, was murdered by the Eraser, while his daughter, Bridget, is currently under the supervision of the Misfits themselves.

Day is catatonic. Krill isn’t talking. It appears as though the Outcasts are spread thin. But still dangerous.”

“So, why haven’t we moved in yet?” Tim asked, a question that seemed to be on everyone's minds.

“Before, Billings’ illusion technology was limited, now he’s expanded its' range unlike anything I’ve encountered. Joker, will know we're onto them, he'll expect it; and with the entire island covered in Spellbinder's illusions, who knows what could be hidden behind their subterfuge. We can’t afford to be caught unaware. Not when Zoom is involved. Power level notwithstanding, he has... an M.O, of targeting people heroes care about. He has a psychological need to make them better, and he’s deluded himself that the only way to do so is by blood.”

==Clair Selton's Residence==

Gar brushed the back of his fingers against Jenna's cheek tenderly. "This isn’t permanent," he assured her. He was now fiddling with the strap of his bag of luggage, filled with his Firefly equipment.

"I know," she nodded understandingly.

"And remember, if Clair tries anything funny -"

"I'll punch her in the tit," she beamed, fastening the bag strap for him.

Gar smirked back. "That's it then. Rigger, let's go," he commanded. He took a step down the stairs, then Clair said something that gave him pause:

“Of course. Heaven forfend you spend time with your daughter,” she murmured dryly.

Gar rolled his eyes. “You know it’s not like that... We just need to know what we’re up against.”

As the duo left, Clair patted Jenna on the back. “Don’t worry, dear. He cheated on me with that purple and green imbecile too.”

==Arkham Asylum==

Though Zoom's visits had quickly become a mundane routine for Crane, they always seemed to happen precisely when Dellbert Billings was slacking off (and usually mid-drink). The sudden crack of yellow and red lightning took Billings by surprise again; his hip flask fell from his hand, and spilled brown liquid onto the floor. Zoom’s red eyes fixed onto Billings’ own bloodshot ones, then cast themselves onto Crane, staring out of the stained glass window.

“I assume you have news?” Crane asked dryly, strumming the armrest of his wheelchair impatiently, not bothering to turn around.

“Theeeeeeee asset ishere,” Zoom announced, then sped off again.

As Zoom departed, a groan escaped Crane’s cracked lips.

“What’s the matter with you now?” Billings asked, as he went down on his hands and knees to retrieve the silver flask, straining as he adjusted his prosthetic leg. He picked up his hip flask, breathed a sigh of relief as he shook it, wiped the rim, then swallowed a slurp of liquor.

“A twisted vertebrae, a collapsed lung, four fractured ribs and partial blindness.”

Billings took another sip. “Apart from that.”

Crane spun his chair around. “If you must know, I was reflecting on my shortcomings, wondering what brought me to this moment. How I went from the Secret Society to hedonists and heretics.”

“It’s not so different really, the SS always had a few stinkers.”

“Don’t- don’t call them the SS.”

“Doctor Light, Girder, the guy with the freezer-“

“Mister Freeze.”

“Major Force!” Billings snapped his fingers. “But that’s what I mean. Why dwell on it. I started out same as you, on top of the world! And then they discarded me like a used condom! My book was on the charts! People did dissertations on it! I did dissertations on it.”

“You did a dissertation on your own book?”

“I had plenty to say.”

“In any case, the two don’t equate. At the height of your delusions, you made the mistake of targeting the wrong people, powerful people, with your tasteless schlock and written ramblings. You were beaten, bruised, and then you were rightfully labelled a drunken disgrace, disowned by the hypocritical, paedophilic and debaucherous social elites of yesteryear, your tail between your... leg.

I, at my most vulnerable, was blessed with the ultimate power in the universe; it stitched together my broken body, mended my shattered bones and nursed my bruised ego. Its’ only limitation was my own imagination, fuelled by the delicious fear I instilled in others. I had everything in place, a scheme that would forever immortalise myself in history. And then... And then it was taken from me. By Batman. By Kite-Man and the Firefly. And I was a cripple once more. Cast aside. Forgotten. Left to rot in the abandoned halls of this failed sanatorium... Once I had power that would set me up among the Gods... Now, I cower in this hovel, surrounded by clowns and drunks and degenerates.”

Billings shrugged, taking a further gulp of booze. “Sounds pretty similar to me," he stated. "Oh, and here comes the golden goose himself," he gestured towards the doorway:

A red and black suited man was skipping merrily down the hall, a golden mask hiding his face, his cape flapping behind him. Crane took one look at the Psycho Pirate and scoffed.

“Bah, in my day, we didn’t need medusa masks to break a man’s mind,” he mused.

“Course not,” Billings took another glug from his hip flask. “You just needed a gallon of neurotoxin.”

~ISA Headquarters~

Gar and Joey looked up. “This is the place?” Gar frowned, checking the address he'd been given.

“Told you it was spooky,” Joey confirmed.

“Spooky?” Gar repeated. “It’s downright Satanic. Might as well have a sign on the door that reads ‘Evil Lair; open 9-5 Monday to Saturday, closed on Sunday.”

“Uh, Gar?” Joey pointed to a metal plaque above their heads.

”HERE STANDS THE GOTHAM CITY HEADQUARTERS OF THE INJUSTICE SOCIETY OF AMERICA, SWORN ENEMY TO THE JUSTICE SOCIETY OF AMERICA, FOUNDED IN 1947 BY WILLIAM ASMODEUS ZARD”

“Jesus...”

“Course, the real injustice is that font,” Joey shivered

==Jimmy's Jazz Club==

"Yo Mugsy, you hear da news?" a brutish thug in a black suit asked his skinnier, grey-suited associate. "Da White Mask got whacked. Dey're saying Sionis did it."

"Yeah. I heard dat. Real shame," the grey-suited man spoke, chewing on a toothpick while counting several stacks of green bills, every group of $1000 wrapped neatly in an elastic band. "Kid had promise."

“Shaddup!" a voice ordered them. "Did you louses really think dat pretty goy Franco had any staying power? Youse all saw what his gimmick was: Masks! Youse all know what dat is? It’s deria... dariva- It’s geen done gefore gy getter men, dats all I’m saying."

As it spoke, an aged hand guided the speaker's fist to its' chin. The swinging light above them illuminated the speaker: a small puppet dressed just as sharply as the two goons, complete with a purple fedora and a cuban cigar in its' wooden mouth. A deep "scar" carved into its' right cheek completed the look. The timid man behind it, its' ventriloquist, might have looked completely out of place among the group of hardened criminals, but it was clear he was the true mastermind behind their racketeering operation. Raising the puppet's arm, it continued to bark garbled orders at the two henchmen.

"Still: All dis infighting and mog wars, seems like a prime opportunity for us to muscle in, and take a piece of Gotham pie all to ourselves. Rhino, Mugsy, arrange a sid-down wit’ da Glack Mask. We’ll see who runs dis town once Scarface is through wit’ it."

"Sure thing, boss!"

"You got it, Mr Scarface, sir," both answered enthusiastically.

"Frankly, I think "Da Glack Mask" has had enough "Siddowns" to last him a lifetime," a nasally voice called out from behind the dusty grand piano onstage.

“Who’s dere!” Scarface demanded.

The figure raised their lantern, illuminating their orange gas mask and narrow eyes. "Hey, Arnold," the interloper waved at the group.

"Oh, do be careful, Mr Scarface, that's-"

"I know who is, dummy! Goys, meet Otis Flannegan: da Ratcatcher: A weaselly, muddaless little gounty hunter. If you're here for da grie, we've just sold out. Rather like you to dah Gotham mog."

“Ya got me: They had a pet insurance scheme I couldn't turn down," Flannegan smirked. "You should have stayed retired, Slappy. Lived out the rest of your wooden days in peace. Died of natural causes at the hands of a few hundred termites. But hey, what do I know. Maybe you wanted to be a real boy. Or maybe your tiny hands around that peashooter gives you a thrill that backgammon with your puppetmaster never could.”

“Wesker, the puppetmaster? Don’t make me laugh, mouse boy. I pull da strings round here," Scarface chuckled, the tommy gun still aimed at Flannegan's chest.

“He’s the one with his hand up your arse, ain’t he? Lemme guess, it gives you wood? A stiffy. A plank in yer pants.”

Scarface gritted his wooden teeth. “You think you're something hot, don't cha? Well, let's see if you feel the same way when you're pumped full of lead: Glast him goys!”

Flannegan was way ahead of them, and tucking his head into his chest, he somersaulted out of the way of the three guns rat-a-tat-tat-ing in his direction. Scarface's insistence on outdated weaponry proved to be in Flannegan's favour. Or rather, it at least made a change from nano tech and portals.

“See, when you pull shit like that, it makes me think you haven't been listening! The problem is, things have changed while you were stuffed under Arnie’s bed. This territory, belongs to the Tiger Shark!" Flannegan hollered over the sound of gunfire, unhooking a smoke bomb from his belt, and tossing it over the overturned table he had made his cover.

He went after Rhino first. All muscle and no brains, that one. A kick to the groin felled him. A punch to the skull kept him down. Mugsy was next: Flannegan threw him against the grand piano on the stage, then dragged him to his feet and shut the piano lid on his head. An off-key melody filled the air as Flannegan repeatedly bashed the lid against his skull until he at last lost consciousness. That left Scarface. Fortunately, he already had a plan for that one.

Squeak.

As the air cleared, Scarface tilted his head to look at the brown, furry creature on his shoulder. The rat, waved back. "Get it off!" he demanded, dropping his gun in the commotion.

"Mr Scarface, please, I don't know where it's been, it could be diseased-" Wesker protested.

"Stop whining, ya gig gagy!"

"Allow me." Flannegan plucked the wooden puppet from Wesker’s hands, and dropped it on the ground. The puppet, lay sprawled across the floor, immobile.

"Dummy!"

"Dummy, I can't move!"

"Dummy, I can't- can't feel my legs!"

"Dummy, get over here-" it continued to plead with its' ventriloquist and then...

And then Otis Flannegan stepped on its' head. The rats in their hundreds emerged from the holes in the walls and devoured what was left while Wesker screamed in horror.

His work done, Flannegan started to walk away and then, gunfire. A rogue bullet passed through his shoulder. Confused, Flannegan spun back around: Wesker, was holding a sock puppet, and the sock puppet was holding a revolver.

“Fuckin' Gepetto!” Flannegan snarled in disbelief.

“You stupid rat gastard! You thought I could ge defeated so easily? Years of experience against da Gat and his cronies, I’m wise to his tricks!” ‘Scarface’ announced.

Bleeding and tired, Flannegan took the sock, then slapped Wesker with it. Wesker whimpered, crumbling to the floor instantly.

"I'll ask this once. Only once, cause you've pissed me right off. You amphibious?"

"P-pardon?" Wesker adjusted his askew glasses.

Flannegan sighed. "Left or right handed?"

“R-right. No, wait, please wait-“

A blank expression hidden behind his gas mask, Flannegan took ahold of Wesker's wrist. And pulled.

==Gotham Sea World==

The Walker family walked through the glass tunnel. Along either side of them, two large sharks swam through the channels. The smaller of the two, was marked with brownish stripes The second, was larger, bulkier and a dark grey.

“Sharkie! Sharkie! Grahhh!” Cammy giggled, mimicking what he must have assumed was a traditional shark growl. A child’s innocence, Gaige thought. As they reached the opening, Gaige saw a man sat at the bench, watching the fish in the center tank. He reached into his pocket, and offered a $20 dollar bill to the kids. “Kaitlin, how’s about you take Cammy to the gift shop, let him buy a knick knack. Keep the change, buy yourself something nice.”

“Yes please! Yes please!” Cammy jumped up and down.

With the kids gone, Gaige approached the man, who slid a brown envelope across the bench. “I hear your guy cut Wesker's strings,” the pale man spoke. "Your cut," he motioned to the envelope.

Gaige grabbed it, and tore it open, examining the massive wad of cash within, before pocketing it.

“Business is good,” the Great White Shark assured him.

==Arkham Asylum==

Roger Hayden sat crossed legged on the cold floor. Fiasco, was sitting on the bed, which had been stripped of its' sheets and pillows lest he attempt to escape. The bar illusion, had faded, revealing crimson bloodstains splattered across the cell wall; remnants from the clown's initial takeover.

“Hello Mr Fiasco. Do you know who I am?” the Pirate sang, scooting forward slightly.

Len leaned forward, his eyes narrowing. “Harley Quinn?” he squinted.

“No," Hayden replied petulantly.

“Anarky?” Fiasco pried.

"You're being quite silly," Hayden observed, sniffing slightly. "And tiresome."

“Ah. I know who you are,” Len declared, offering Hayden a beckoning finger. “You’re the little prick whose face is gonna match that stupid red and black outfit once I’m finished with you.”

Hayden recoiled. "Oh. You're upset. Why are you upset, Leonard? May I call you Leonard?"

Fiasco said nothing, but instead spat a glob of phlegm at Hayden's feet. Hayden, ignored it.

"Did you see something? Something at the bar that frightened you? Something that made you angry? Is that it?" The Pirate pried. "Is it because of Celia?" he whispered.

"Fuck you!"

"Who is Celia, Leonard? Was she your wife? Was she your giiiiiiiirlfriend? Oh. Or did you never get the chance to ask? So much love in your heart for Celia, tsk tsk. Do you hate her for that? For never giving you a chance when you would have, and should have given her the world?"

"Do I look like an incel to you? All mountain dew and playstations and stiff tissues?"

The golden mask glowed brighter as the Pirate spoke. "No. No, of course not, Leonard. But you do look sad. So very very sad. Because of your friends, yes? Because you do have friends, don't you? Or did, hm? Your friends left you, didn't they? After everything you did for them! How rude! I bet they didn't even know you were gone! Oh, but... Oh, what can you expect when you drive them away? With coldness and bitterness and violence, such violence. Of course... Of course, I don't blame you, I know it's not your fault. But I can be your friend, Leonard. If you'd like that. Of course you would. You want a friend. You need a friend. You need me. Don't you, Leonard? You need me to wipe your tears away and tell you that everything's alright. And I can. I'd be happy to. So so so so very happy. Come back to the bar, Leonard. Come back with me, and we can wipe those tears away forever."

Rhythm of Line

In Early period Jaisini has more meaning manipulation creating concept of visual line’s enclosure in unison with logical line.

Movement in the space and constructed thinking process together seem to come to a deceptive simplicity of continuous line.

In reality the artist works in complicated manner of multiple approaches that has multi personalities united in one through a fight.

Was line predetermined in her movement?

But it is technically immediate, imaginative, and not prepared.

In accordance to the artist’s own assumptions, his line matures in his mind for long period of time before he could release it on the canvas together with the painting’s unique plot.

The plot of the picture’s characters usually serves purpose of mixing the originality of beauty with simple decorative purpose of line interlacing and sometimes it brings images in most unexpected connections, mixing such themes as classical music with semi erotic depictions where aesthetic flare of creative fertilization is deeply connected to erotic display of mastery, a dialectical incentive of creation.

Mixtures of refine eroticism and ultimately conservative in appearance subject of classical musicians brings the theme to unexpected prominence.

In paintings subject is not ever explicit or hidden too deeply between the lines to be hypocritically implied, to the opposite the artist sets his ideas in perfect harmony.

Jaisini tends to perfect all angles of his creation to the level of condition with constant curiosity about his art.

If you had learned the meaning you would start to see more of its visual technique.

Then it could start to change the meaning.

The process of growing together with Jaisini’s artworks is unlimited.

Just when you thought that you have grasped the capricious creation it starts to run away from you again.

And this is exactly what Jaisini stage in his art, the game that never ends and develops into new game.

Music is a particularly relevant aspect of Jaisini’s inspiration as a part of the artist’s daily life.

The connection of art images and subjects is not straightforward but still in many ways is connected to music sensitivity.

The immediate execution of Show Must Go On with the soundtrack of a song gave an impulse to conceive a concept of creation and destruction in the unusual visual image.

The conjunction of self-destructive meaning of true creativity and moment of elation often turns dreadfully in artist’s personal situation.

Jaisini’s paintings reveal a general tendency observed in almost every component of style he uses, the self-conscious rhythm of line that could be just as expressive as musical rhythm.

Rhythm has importance applied to musical composition but not to cacophonic sounds.

Same with the line with meaningful rhythm applied to significant composition.

The rule of content in Jaisini’s art is not the final.

The artist creates content to make see the form and reduce content in a process.

Content could be associated with human attributes.

For Jaisini content is a tool to express in art evolution of mind returning to beginning when line was a primary definition of childishness and purity.

The overall process of formalization of this line takes many stages but is rewarding as never before.

A style is new in its complexity mastering graphical with visual, logical with emotional and communicative ability.

Jaisini uses dialogue as a conveyor of meaning through lines it contain as in theatrical performance but following artistic tendency to train the viewer’s eye to enjoy color, tone, plasticity of line, composition with development of all the elements of painting to the point of great significance to add complexity to the context, to highlight visual with textual and otherwise.

The created web of signification and intertextual references is even more complex then artist might think in beginning of his work.

With development of his style Jaisini had realized the further complexity to stage a painting as a play.

The idea in his pictures can’t be controlled but is in the middle of a meaning’s vortex some of which is external and allows endless interpretation as if it was musical.

Free!

"If the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed."

John 8:36

To be made free implies a liberty from the WORLD

and the spirit of covetousness in the heart. If we

were to follow into their shops some who talk much

of 'gospel liberty', we might find that the world's

fetter had not been struck off their heart—that they

had a 'golden' chain, though invisible to their own

eyes, very closely wrapped round their heart.

And there is a being made free from the power of SIN.

I greatly fear, if we could follow into their holes and

corners, and secret chambers, many who prattle about

gospel liberty, we would find that sin had not yet lost

its hold upon them, that there was some secret or open

sin that entangled them, that there was . . .

some lust,

some passion,

some evil temper,

some wretched pride or other,

that wound its fetters very close round their heart.

And also there is a being made free from SELF . . .

proud self,

presumptuous self,

self-exalting self, flesh-pleasing self,

hypocritical self,

self in all its various shapes and turns,

self in all its crooked hypocrisy and windings.

"If the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed."

Berkeley, CA - November 2009. It's incredibly sad to me that the graffiti community has no concept of (or refuses to acknowledge) how disrespectful their so-called freedom of expression is, and instead they focus on their perceived victimization. In reality, they are the perpetrators, and the building/propertly owners are the victims. It breaks my heart to see how many young people have this shift-the-blame/take-no-responsibility/it's-all-about-me attitude, and that they use "freedom of expression" as an excuse. It also means that historic preservation of old buildings and signage is even more of an uphill battle than I had previously thought. To all the people who come here to just spout off about your assumed "rights": with your selfish actions, you are probably stepping on someone else's rights, and creating art should not do that. Please read ALL of the discussion below; it might show you a bigger picture that you had not considered before.

If, for example, I were to take the pro-graffiti approach of "express yourself with no regard to anyone else's rights", I would have my band set up on the front porch (it's ok, because they have no respect for private property, so I won't either) of a tagger. We would then play our music at top volume, 24 hours a day. I wonder how long it would take for them to see the other side of this argument...

Taggers whine about how they don't get respect for their "art", yet they have ZERO respect for anyone else's art, property or space: murals, architecture (which is an art form), neon signs (which are an art form), private property and vehicles. HOW in the world can they demand respect when their whole mission is based on disrespecting other people's art-possessions-property? Because they are HYPOCRITES.

And to those of you who say, "Graffiti doesn't hurt anyone", read all the comments below. It DOES hurt people, in the case of the property owners who get fined by the city and who have the constant hassle to remove it. And it hurts the regular working people (like my husband, mentioned below) who get stuck removing it or painting over it when their workplaces are vandalized. I have also noticed that the pro-graffiti posters conveniently ignore my points where they can't come up with a justification for their side--they have yet to present a compelling argument that completely justifies their actions and accounts for the effect graffiti has on other people and their property. They insist on seeing only their side of the argument, instead of both sides. Maybe they will understand someday. I hope so.

Justin and I would then make our way to Helmstetters, it was a circus in the spots everyone gets and the gate keeps to head down the trail were fairy hypocritical but thats besides the point. We walked to the east side of the curve and shot it coming around the S curve.

Build Your House on the Rock

“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it" (Matthew 7:24-27)

"There are others, whose religion rests in bare hearing, and it goes no further; their heads are filled with empty notions. These two sorts of hearers are represented as two builders. This parable teaches us to hear and do the sayings of the Lord Jesus: some may seem hard to flesh and blood, but they must be done. Christ is laid for a foundation, and every thing besides Christ is sand. Some build their hopes upon worldly prosperity; others upon an outward profession of religion. Upon these they venture; but they are all sand, too weak to bear such a fabric as our hopes of heaven. There is a storm coming that will try every man's work. When God takes away the soul, where is the hope of the hypocrite? The house fell in the storm, when the builder had most need of it, and expected it would be a shelter to him. It fell when it was too late to build another. May the Lord make us wise builders for eternity. Then nothing shall separate us from the love of Christ Jesus" - Matthew Henry

You'd think she'd be used to naked characters from me by now.

And hypocritically posted naked girl avatars. No activity.

The second was a boring photographer of bland industrial buildings. 4 months, no activity. Meh.

Both because of naked Ciri, probably.

===== Present / NYPD =====

Batroc the Leaper: And then I woke up here.

Spider-Man: Wait really, you woke up in this exact chair? I need to get new Spider-Glasses.

Batroc the Leaper: Have you no sympathy?

Spider-Man: Well, I’m happy you’re alive, Batroc.

Spider-Man holds out his arms

Spider-Man, his eyes widening in excitement: Hug and make up?

Batroc the Leaper: Don't you dare touch me.

Captain Stacy leans back in his chair and strokes the scruff on his face, frowning. He then shakes his head, confused.

Yuriko Watanabe: Captain?

Captain: Tch, tch, tch, tch, tch…

Spider-Man: Mr. Stacy?

Captain Stacy looks at Spider-Man with a pint of sadness, then looks back at the criminal fiddling with his cast.

Captain Stacy: Ms. Watanabe would you please escort Mr. Batroc back to his cell?

Watanabe nods her head and jerks Batroc out of the room.

Spider-Man: You okay Cap'n?

Captain Stacy stays quiet and looks down at the table. He then reaches into his jacket and pulls out a whiskey flask. He takes a sip then offers it to Spider-Man

Spider-Man: I er- Don’t drink.

Captain Stacy: Heh, of course. Can’t have the city’s greatest hero running around drunk, can we?

He takes another sip

Spider-Man: Captain Stacy, I really don’t think you should be drinking with your-

Captain Stacy: I’m fine, truly...

Spider-Man: ...What’s wrong?

Captain Stacy lets out a long exasperated sigh

Captain Stacy: Have you ever felt...a great deal of shame Spider-Man?

Spider-Man: Of course, its sort of a character trait of mine. But I see no reason for a man such as yourself to feel ashamed.

Captain Stacy: People are dead, Spider-Man. People keep dying on my hands. Now this? We haven’t had anything this big since- Well, you remember it as well as I do.

Spider-Man, shuddering: I still have nightmares. I never want to relive that calamity again.

Captain Stacy chuckles at Spider-Man's slight over-exaggeration

Captain Stacy: I never thanked you for your help... In fact, that’s why I feel shame.

Spider-Man: If not apologizing is bothering you-

Captain Stacy: It’s not that… Sorry, I should have been more clear. It’s the fact I needed help in the first place.

Spider-Man: Even the best of us need help sometimes. Trust me.

Captain Stacy: Yes, but I’m in charge here. These people count on me and I would’ve never been able to stop half the things that happen without you.

Captain Stacy nods and speaks before Spider-Man can respond.

Captain Stacy: I needed a vigilante’s help to run my city...to help protect the people. What does that make me?

Spider-Man walks over to Captain Stacy and places his hand on his shoulder

Spider-Man: If there’s anything I’ve learned, is that you should focus on the good things in life. Too much stress can affect your perspective on everything.

Captain Stacy raises an eyebrow

Spider-Man: I mean uh-

Captain Stacy: Yeah, yeah, I get yah...even though it may be a little hypocritical.

Spider-Man: Do as I say not as I do.

Captain Stacy stands up, rubs his eyes, and places the canteen back in his jacket.

Captain Stacy: I hate to say it like this, but...How are we going to catch this vigilante?

Spider-Man paces back and forth momentarily then snaps his fingers.

Spider-Man: I got it!

Captain Stacy: Well that was...fast.

Spider-Man: I’ll fill you in later.

Spider-Man lifts up his wrist and points at the vent preparing to make his escape when Captain Stacy places his hand on his arm

Captain Stacy: Where do you think you’re going?

Spider-Man: Just...trust me on this one.

Captain Stacy: You’ve been saying that for years…

Spider-Man: And have I ever let you down?

Captain Stacy: Debateable.

Spider-Man, putting his free hand on his chest: I’m insulted!

Captain Stacy: Go on now. I trust that you’ll “fill me in later”.

Spider-Man: You bet-

Spider-Man flings himself into the vent, spiraling as he does.

Captain Stacy leaves the interrogation room.

1. Both of my parents are Vietnamese, making me 100% Viet. I was born in the Philippines in a refugee camp and then a few weeks later we moved to Norway. I lived there the first 9 years of my life. I love Norway and will always consider that my first home.

2. I think I'm a photography nut because my parents never really took pictures when I was younger. There are years of my life that are completely lost because I don't remember them and because I don't have pictures to remind me of my childhood. Example: I got bright bright red highlights (what was I thinking?!) in high school and I don't have a single picture to remind how it looked. Phooey.

3. I'm the biggest dog lover of all time. Every kind of dog that passes by me gets a squeal and a "oh look at that puppy!!!". I'm sure it's annoying.

4. I'm a loner by nature... actually, by nurture. I've been raised to be completely independent when it comes to being with people. I honestly think it's one of my biggest flaws.

5. It's a sad realization but I'm a humongous hypocrite. Oy...

6. I'm one of the few people who thrive on change. I guess it's why I get itchy when things are so routine. I'm so used to moving every few years that I'm ready to move again.

7. I love tattoos and piercings. I have 2 tats and lip, navel, and a few holes in each ear (RIP to the nose ring.. I miss you). I think I'm done with piercings (only because there's not much else to pierce... unless maybe an industrial) but I definitely want more tattoos.

8. I'm embarrassingly short. Not quite 5 feet yet at 4'11. I feel like a midget a lot. Fun.

9. I hate making plans. Hate. It. Which is why you'll never find me doing it.

10. I'm a sucker for all things apple inc. and sparkly.

11. One of the biggest thing I want to do in my life is to visit a nice, tropical place void of all modern civilization... heck yea.

[edit]

12. I have burn scars on my arms from when I was little. I was at daycare and saw a cup that I wanted so I reached up and grabbed it only to have hot coffee spill all over my arms.

heehee.. this is hard. That's all I can come up with right now. I'm sure there's more to me but I can't think of any. Oh well..

Our daily lives are so micro-managed and challenging, sometimes we need to just stop and force ourselves to relax.

Hypocritical as this is for me, when I'm on travel, I go go go go go. 10 hours of work followed by 4+ more of taking photos. But I'm only in Germany once, and I feel I need to do/see as much of it as I can.

The next 2 days won't be any easier but...I can bet you I'll have some crazy stories for you. Maybe even photos too.

So, I got tagged by kelven a while ago now and I had been hoping to take a crazy awesome self portrait with awesome bokehliciousness and fancy lighting using my flashes (or the sun) and such. Only thing is that takes time and some degree of effort and I haven't got round to it yet. So this is what I post instead, a cliché mirror shot. I had shots where the background was clear of people, but they were lacking focus or the right exposure. I was ticked when I saw that these rude people who were in the same shop as me had walked behind me! I mean, how dare they! :D

I tried to make this more interesting, which I found hard, but I found this effect on Nik colour pro. I still don't really like it, but Kate did and convinced me to use it. I suppose I like the tones and the half and half, wallpaper/darkness thing and the way the mirror frame sucks you in. But still pretty boring I think.

So now I have to thank Kelven.ng for making me have to write 10 facts, but then best part is I get to tag 10 other people, and hopefully get to see their self portraits and learn some new stuff about them. I also need to thank Kelven for mentioning the new Sigma 85mm f1.4, which made me research it, and inevitably want it! Thanks Kelven :D

Ok 10 facts:

1. I have the most awesome, amazing and beautiful girlfriend in the world, she makes me happy, but lives in another country. But she is not imaginary, which is a bonus, and I will get to see her at Christmas :)

2. I have a moustache at the moment, because it makes me feel like Tom Selleck, which makes me feel tough. I must stress it has nothing at all to do with it being Mouvember. Ok, actually it is, but I still need to try and raise some money. Its more to prove that I can grow one. I started it off as beard so that it didn't look thin and stupid, but I shaved that off when my Dad said I looked like a chimp. Quite insulting and hypocritical seen as he looks totally like me and has a life long beard!

3. I like dipping biscuits in coffee. And that it real biscuits, not those fake American ones. And no Kate, not cookies, biscuits. It is a totally different bag of nuts. I also get quite stressed when I over dunk and the cheeky little blighter snaps and drops in to the mug.

4. My most prized possessions are, Kate, my dog, Bonnie, my new iMac and my awesome camera and lenses, particularly the 35mm and 135mm Ls. I love those things. So you see, I need the 85mm to conveniently split that 100mm divide! It is all plain. I know lenses and cameras and computers shouldn't matter, but they just do. I am materialistic I suppose. And obsessive, very obsessive.

5. I am great at serenading. Actually, I just sing out of tune randomly for no reason and unbeknownst to me. But Katie seems to like it. Maybe she pities me.............

6. I am a huge Harry Potter fan. I recently reread all the books and have just started watching all the films in prep for going to see the latest film when I get back from Frankfurt next weekend.

7. I think I have cracked the explore algorithm! Finally. It shouldn't matter, but it kinda made me happy to finally get one. Little tip of anyone wanting an explore. Post in a max of 5 groups, it will help.

8. I say random things like 'Don't be illin' me', but only to Kate, to make myself sounds a little more gangsta. I personify things that don't work so I can call them bastards, this makes me feel better and I often threaten to kill my cat.

9. I have a lavender and lime green room, which, I think you will agree, is very manly. I do have a cool duvet cover though, I like that. My room did used to be my sisters though, so you have to forgive the colours.

10. Finally, it is my wish to make some money out of photography, but I lack the confidence or know-how to do that. But that is my dream and everybody must dream............

So those are my 10 facts. Now to tag some people :)

I'm going to sound like such a hypocrite with all my recent preaching about not using photoshop, but without a HUGE spotlight there was no way I could get this in one exposure. And also from some of the horror stories I've heard from this location, you'd be mental to even try! Lit by Mr Graham Williams when I was home over Christmas.

So this is a composite of several short exposure, high ISO shots (f/5,6 ISO1000) lit in segments then blended together in photoshop. It's a lot of work for the end result, but I'm happy with it.

I'd like to dedicate this to my Grandad who's just passed away. I know it's probably not the most appropriate thing to do, but he was in the Navy and I know he would've appreciated this photograph. RIP.

Ever since I was a child I loved musicals.

Back then, I would only see musicals in the Cinema.

After moving to England and travelling to the USA and Europe, I would always try to find tickets to see musicals in the theatre.

In the following years I would take my daughter along and while she was at school she joined the theatre group and she took part at several performances that included singing and dancing.

Dare you look look at a king? Would you sit on his throne?

Can you say of your bite that it's worse than your bark?

Are you c of the walk when you're walking alone?

When you fall on your head, do you land on your feet?

Are you tense when you sense there's a storm in the air?

Can you find your way blind when you're lost in the street?

*** BUMP for Transgender Day of Visibility 2024 ***

Standing with you -- to Hell with all the states that are passing anti-trans legislation -- especially those who claim to be for "personal freedom," but pass the most hateful, bigoted bills restricting the rights of those who disagree with them.

As John Kaye of Steppenwolf sang about those hypocrites:

“You're free to speak your mind, my friend, as long as you agree with me,"

Please feel free to share

It's been rather hot lately and I find myself wishing for a cool breeze coming from the water, alas, I have no plans for a visit to any lake for the foreseeable future.. I was looking at some of my winter photos to cool myself of, but decided it would be a bit perverse of me to share any, just yet, especially when I am the one always complaining about cold ;D. And, since, I refuse to be a complete hypocrite here is some sunset images from Astotin Lake, instead. It was a surprisingly beautiful evening despite the rain and, I hope, I will have a chance to visit the lake soon again :D

Aloha. I've been tagged for the nth time... the latest who tagged me was Glenn Waters... and because I'm game, here's another 10 randomness about your Miss Sunshine.

1. Coke or Pepsi? Pepsi with a scoop of vanille ice cream

2. Examples of songs I chill out to: Great Divide/ The Cardigans, Smile/ Lily Allen, Boyfriend/ D' Sound.

3. I hate, abhor, abominate, despise, detest, loathe hypocrites... stay away from me, puleeezzzz?

4. I'm basically the sweetest person, but I can turn someone's day hellish with an acerbic mood.

5. I have frustrations, too. When I was 8, I wanted to be a fashion designer. When I was 10, I wanted to be an architect. When I was 14, I wanted to be a girlfriend... hahaha, I ended up being a wife at 16... and a mom at 18. Make no mistake... I'm enjoying LIFE.

6. Obviously, I love blue and green... and anything in between [?]... and PINK.

7. My favorite word -- SERENDIPITY.

8. Another favorite word -- Hello. It could be followed by either an exclamation point or a question mark.

9. "Love begets love." -- a LOVE-ly quote.

10. I'm not tagging anyone this time.... ^_^ Enjoy your Sunday.

--- Thank you so much for the 9,999 views, just now. ---

You pays your money and you makes your choice (we’re photographers, so we make, not take) – and that just about sums up competition entries.

For the second time (out of the six I’ve entered), I’ve failed to get anything past the first round of judging of the annual (UK) Landscape Photographer of the Year (LPOTY). So, did I make a poor choice, was I unlucky, or are none of my images good enough?

There’s a letter of mine published in the August (you know, the one that comes out at the end of June) edition of the excellent Outdoor Photography magazine in which I make the case for photographing to please yourself, not others – and since I try, whenever practicable, not to be a hypocrite, that’s what I do in my own photography.

Now, it stands to reason that if you have that attitude when making photographs, you should have it when selecting them for a competition entry also. Of course you have to stick to the rules and competition subject matter – although failure to do so is no guarantee of not winning – but within those constraints, I’ve decided, basically, to hell with it! I’ll take the pictures I like, and select the ones that I would be proud to see on a page with my name under them. This applies generally, but is especially true of photography competitions. And note, LPOTY IS a photography competition, not a landscape competition, and so the prizes ought to be awarded for the added value the photographer has brought to the image, not for how intrinsically pretty the view is. I also happen to believe that any processing should be done solely in an attempt to convey to the viewer the photographer’s experience of being there, not simply to add ‘impact’ (a shitty magazine word that makes me want to add impact to the people who use it). But that’s a whole other story.

So, I won’t pretend that I’m not disappointed – it’s hard not to be when you’ve spent hours selecting and polishing your work for it to be given the two-week brush-off. But I think I’d been an awful lot more disappointed if I’d been trying to please the competition judges and still failed.

Come to think of it, money is always nice – and ten thousand pounds is very nice – but I reckon, long term, my integrity is worth more than that. [NB – I’m categorically not saying that to win you have to sell out, merely that you should never sell out to win – and this is about my journey, not anybody else’s!]

My first reaction might have been (by which I mean ‘was’) that there’s no point in entering next year – they are obviously not looking for the sort of work I like to produce – but I probably will: after all, the entry fee isn’t a lot to pay for a bit of fun and motivation. But what I won’t ever do again is rest any hopes on the outcome – if I’m making and selecting images to please myself, not the judges, then it stands to reason that I won’t necessarily please the judges; but I will know that my photography will go on exploring and growing, and never get stuck in a rut carved out by the tyres of somebody else’s vehicle, and that’s the biggest prize of all.

I’ve created an album of the shots that I entered (not all there yet, as some not on Flickr as entered. Where the re-edit is noticeably better than the original posting, as here, I’ll re-post. Any comments of this, or the album (LPOTY 2014 entry), naturally welcome.
