My husband built this birdhouse back in Alaska to specific sizes for swallows. Chickadees used it two years in a row. It stood high on a metal pole away from interlopers.

Then we moved here, birdhouse included, and finally, tree swallows! Sounds like quite a few hungry ones inside.

Photo today by my husband, Howard Marsh, using his D4 and my 500mm f/4 on the Manfrotto monopod.

This is an archive image that I have never uploaded anywhere. It was transformed from color to B n W for this week's themed group, Smile on Saturday. The theme is "HIGH CONTRAST PORTRAIT in B&W".

Jack was in the yard adjusting sprinklers. He was soaked from head to toe. I was out taking photos of butterflies and birds. However, the most interesting subject in the yard at the time was Jack. So, I turned the camera towards him.

We were engaging in normal conversation as he was working away. Of course, I was click, click, clicking away. Suddenly, Jack looked up and I was caught. I love the fact that after all these years the moment he looks at me, a big grin appears on his face.

Have a wonderful day and happy snapping.

My husband liked this retro nixie-tube display; I bid on and eventually received it for him Rotrics.com’s Kickstarter. These are three of the backs of the tubes out of six.

(See first comment for the Rotrics photo and info.)

This female evening grosbeak isn't as colorful as her husband but she's still a striking bird in her own right. According to the Winter Finch Forecast for 2022-2023, evening grosbeaks had a banner nesting year across Canada, thanks to a spruce budworm outbreak there, and are expected to make a big push into the United States this winter, possibly as far south as places like Iowa. I'd say they were right on with that prediction!

My husband and I traveled through snow, sunshine, ice, Prairies, mountains, deserts, one Canadian province and 6 States - a total of 3,000 kms, one way to spend some time in this incredible Paradise.

We arrived as the sun hit its peak and we embraced the welcoming heat.

The show began with a visit from a coyote and a small herd of deer that chased him away. A lone buck meandered across the road. Hawks sat perched in the trees that resembled those in the Serengeti. As the Golden Hour approached, the tall, thick grasses illuminated a fiery orange - foreshadowing something that was about to transpire...

We were thrilled to spend a good four hours in this wonderful place before the sun disappeared and we made a promise that we would return, early the next morning, as the sun showed itself again, revealing the wealth of nature within this magnificent sanctuary.

I was there 2 weeks ago (March)- it is my husband's place...

… my husband loves to find me crazy/wacky/odd/strange gifts for birthdays and Christmas. This has got to be one of his craziest! I think only a photographer would appreciate such a gift. I actually have many issues with my thoracic spine so I see this model regularly at my chiropractors. A focus stacked image comprising 25 separate shots

Last weekend my husband and I visited the local cemetery to pay our respects to a loved one. Whilst there I came across this beautiful tatty teddy. It had obviously been there a while as it was soaked right through by all the rain we've had recently.

It had been tied to the bench securely, so I'm sure whoever placed it there, did so as a symbol of their love for someone very close to their heart.

Many years ago, when we were in a town in the Galapagos, my husband was amused to see the seal who was admiring the fish.

Parmi les 35 œuvres présentées, on trouve une figurine masculine en fonte dressée par Antony Gormley intitulée «Learning to be I» et «Into the Wind», une sculpture en bronze de la tête d’un cheval réalisée par Nic Fiddian-Green.

A new installation by British artist Linder Sterling in the garden of Chatsworth House draws on one of the most intriguing episodes in the estate’s 500-year-old history: the imprisonment of Mary, Queen of Scots.

Sterling’s “Bower of Bliss” is a response the Queen Mary’s Bower, a raised structure in the 105-acre garden which some believe was built in the 1570s as a space for Mary to exercise while she was held captive for her alleged involvement in plots assassinate her cousin Elizabeth I.

Mary was forced to abdicate in 1567 after she was implicated in her husband’s murder and was then imprisoned in England by Elizabeth I from 1568 and executed in 1587.

Sterling’s installation is one of the highlights of a new sculpture exhibition called “Chatsworth Outdoors: Grounds for Sculpture”, which opens in the garden of the Derbyshire estate on Sept. 14. 2018.

Among the 35 works on show is a standing male cast iron figure by Antony Gormley called “Learning to be I”, and “Into the Wind”, a bronze sculpture of a horse’s head by Nic Fiddian-Green.

''Oh sweetness....How I miss you- Do I really? No...otherwise why would've I poisoned you? Dear husband , you said to me, you'd never want me to be alone...so I got a pet and guess what? I teached him how to sit, roll and give paw, but above all those things, me and him enjoy coming to see you lay here, so quiet...you've never been so handsome before...May hell take you while I teach and walk my boy...Rest now.''

Honestly this was a curious idea, it was interesting working on something like this. Satomi always manages to create very interesting scenes and its amazing how you can get creative with this... So y'all better go hype sato's new set or I will bite your toes off!

Biiiiiiig thank yous to my Aiden for being an amazing boy and help me with this picture! Mwah♥

Hope you don't mind but I'm going to post two images today of my husbands drone shots the other day when the Bristol Bay came in off Lake Michigan and thru the harbor and into Lake Charlevoix to do some ice breaking. Here it has just come thru the channel and into the Harbor.

My husband and I had seen this bobcat today and then it disappeared into the woods. We were trying to relocate it when we heard some deer snorting very close by. I got out of the car and looked around to see if I could spot it and then out of the corner of my eye, I see the bobcat appear from behind a pile of gravel. I just stayed still as we both stared at each other. I was able to get a few images :-).

7DWF Theme: Flora

These were on my front lawn just before my husband cut the grass. Another "below the knees" shot for our camera club theme.

This photo was taken by my husband.

The reason: My camera was set up wrong, which caused all my photos to fail. He took a few photos that I pointed out.

My Husband was kind enough to humour me while I took a few photos of him with his trumpet.

It was surprising that there were only 5 photographers there. SG had his own plans, my brother had a Canon with a TV that I didn't understand, one guy shot at f4 the whole time, another guy spent about 5 minutes using his 10 mm lens . It finally cooled off that night and the full moon was another wonderful surprise. hcs!

======================

LORD CAVERSHAM. And it is high time for you to get married. You are thirty-four years of age, sir.

LORD GORING. Yes, father, but I only admit to thirty-two—thirty-one and a half when I have a really good buttonhole. This buttonhole is not . . . trivial enough.

Taking a break at home with a nice cold one. ;)

Thank you to all my friends that have supported me through my trials with the neighbours and for sending me Get well wishes, it has meant so much to me, Thank you also for my 3 lovely testimonials fom CREllis2009,

RON HANKO and BRie-N. And thank you Ron Hanko, smiling orange and skipping in the meadow for dedicating photographs to me, I loved every one of them and will treasure the thoughtfullness for ever.

I want to be honest with you all and tell you the truth what is up with me and I am hoping I will not loose one friendship as each and everyone of you are dear to me.

I suffered depression after the birth of my son, and then agrophobia set in, I could not go out as I felt sufficated and scared, I was starting to get better, enabling me to take all the swan pics bulls, Gullivers world etc and feeling much better in myself, but since the incedent with the neighbours, I have had a nervous breakdown, i have reverted back into my illness, deep depression and unable to go out.

Last fri i finally cracked and the very top doctors came to my home, I thought I was going to be forced to go into hospital, but because of my childhood, they did not think i would benefit from it, so I am able to stay at home on the condition I will acept all help and if my health deteriates any more my husband will have to give up work to take care of me. My wonderful husband does not have any support from anyone and he is doing all he can for me on his own, he is even feeding my fish on face book bless him. It must be hard for him but he says he loves me and will do all he can to help me. My social worker from when I was a child who is so much like a mum to me came today and said she will help all she can but she lives miles away and is retired from work so I cant ask for too much from her, but she totaly loves me and has never left my side even though I came out of care at 18. Colin thank you for looking after me right now, and for being my wonderful husband, I love you so very much and I promise I will except all help and to take any tablets given to me in order to get better. Flickr friends, you are so amazing, I told my husband that you are also helping me by being so kind, I will always try to catch up with my comments to you all but sometimes I just feel to ill to come on. I guess I have what most people would call, a mental illness right now so that is why I am worried I may loose some of you. I hope I don't though As I really do mean all i say to you. I am an honest person and I am being honest with you now about my illness. I am still the same Chrissie that I was when you first met me on here, I can still even find my sense of humour sometimes, I can still apriciate all your wonderful photo's .

My husband spotted this in a tree about 300 yards away in the forest east of our place.

I ran out on the porch and took these hand held. Earlier this year we had a Turkey Vulture pose in this same area for us for a while.

The Big Birds must love these trees!

It was fun to photograph him.

My job at the dv shelter. I had my FIRST BIG hotline call on Saturday, TWO HOURS long and it was AMAZING. I LOVE when I can help others. I will NEVER forget this particular call. Not only because it was my first REAL BIG one but also because the caller said several times, "You are going to make me cry". And he meant that in a nice way. The things I was saying to him really touched him and made him feel so good about himself. THAT makes me SO HAPPY and reconfirms my calling in social work.

My new job that I will be starting on the 21st. I am really looking forward to being a foster care case manager. It will be tough but I KNOW I belong with at risk children. It will be quite interesting going from a SAHM of over 5 years to working TWO jobs but I look forward to the change and challenge.

October always takes my husband and I to this beautiful park. We have had lots of rain recently and it brought a lot of the leaves down, but there was still some wonderful color to be seen :)

Thanks so much for taking a moment to view my photo! I appreciate it!

Purple flowers in our garden this week grown by my husband

My husband went to school here for a while as a kid, so it was fun to revisit this small town in south-eastern France. Located on the French Riviera, along the Franco-Italian border, Menton has the mildest climate of the entire Côte d'Azur and charms with its colors and lemon trees year-round.

Crofting is a Scottish system of landholding and is an integral part of life in the Highlands and Islands. A croft (a small and arable area of land) has its tenancy normally bequeathed to a family member and this one in Staffin, in North East Skye had been occupied by my husband’s family for generations. So our plans began in 2022, post Covid and retirement, for us to return to the croft. The old family home, now belonging to a young local couple, can be seen on the bottom left of the photograph and our new home is being built on a site above the single track road into the village.

My husband and I went to the shore over night Friday for our 10 year Anniversary. We saw a beautiful sunset. We pulled off to the side of the road to catch some shots (about 50!)

Taking a shot of my husband Dave getting a shot of the waves today.

I invited my husband for a nice springwalk. It was our first sunny day in weeks. He denid and locked himselve into his garage and his cars. Oooh, did he regret. When I came home after my walk, I showed him my photo's and told him about the most amazing meeting I had with some special couple, only 10 meters ahead of me. He wept a tear and now clouds are in front of the sun. He returned to his garage, a bit grumpy between his cars. I still feel sunny because of all the great things I've seen and specially because of the couple I met. Thank you for our little talk today you two...

He doesn't need a name, you all know who he is.

Gratitude is the simplest way to change one’s perspective of the world. It allows us to appreciate the positive, rather than focus on the negative aspects of our lives. Learning to be grateful helps us appreciate the little things in life that we tend to take for granted, which brings about a deep feeling of satisfaction that fulfills and nourishes us.

I'm going to try for the month to show some of the people and things I'm truly THANKFUL for.

Today I'm thankful for Dave who goes along with some of my silliness escapades. Yesterday we had fun at the senior center lunch.
