But I remember everything
It sounds cliche. Everybody hurts. It's still true. I know some people still don't get it, but more do than once did. Depression is a form of mental illness. People cannot simply get over it. It is far more complicated than that. When you find that someone you care about is affected it becomes far less theoretical. Someone who I love dearly is struggling and suddenly the stark reality is very frightening. For a lack of a better categorization Depression is a form of disability. It is not a shame, it is a disease. It is not a cry for attention, it is a cry for help. Depressed people are frequently some of the most intelligent and compassionate people you'll ever know. Depression strikes some people for reasons that we may never fully understand. It may be part of a much larger issue. It can happen to anyone. Don't turn your back and look away. Your mentally ill friend, relative, co-worker, classmate, team member, or acquaintance needs you to understand, to be considerate, to be patient, and to have compassion. On the road of life anyone can encounter troubled waters. Someday many of us may need that bridge.
