With its uphill climb out of Weller complete, U53 drifts downgrade at Hurley as the evening light begins to fade. In a few miles, they will tie down and a road crew will bring them to Ought One and the Williamson District. The signals on this branch received these unique upgrades in the late 1990s, with the N&W bases retained and color light signals put in place of the original CPLs.
Hurley Lock is on the River Thames near Maidenhead in Berkshire. I took this on a very hot Summer morning in May on an outing with my Photography Club. The whole area is beautiful, but I was attracted by the reflections under the bridge, and the lovely green foliage on the trees.

After taking coke loads over the hill to Williamson, U52 returns to Weller Yard on the Buchanan Branch with the Norfolk & Western heritage unit leading, passing by the old signals in the middle of nowhere that is Hurley, Virginia.
Dropping down to the bottom of the grade at Hurley, the J77 pusher holds onto the rear of Westbound U52, passing by the signals, a few hundred yards away from cutting off and heading back to Weller
NS 8101 leads company empties train 821 down the Buchanan Branch past one of many brackets with the rather unique MCL-100 signals.
Arnold Circus, Boundary Estate, Bethnal Green
The Boundary Estate was built in the mid-1890s following slum clearance, and is one of the earliest examples of social housing estates in London. Much of the estate, including this building, is listed Grade II by Historic England.
Using the Weller pusher set to shove 820 over the hill, U60 drops down to the bottom of the hill at Hurley, about to cut off of 820 and go back over the mountain to Weller.

After tacking on their pusher at Lester Fork, U52 with 160 empties throttles up across Knox Creek and the main highway through Hurley, Virginia.
With empties for Consol in tow, NS 821 knocks down Hurley with the Central of Georgia heritage unit in the lead.
