Following a false manipulation I republish this photo; sorry to all my friends
************************************************************************************
A flock of around 100 monk parakeets has landed in the treetops!
The photo is quite incredible but we should especially ask ourselves why is such a vision possible in Moldova?
It was taken by Libor, the photographer who carries a parrot on his head and whom you have already seen on my gallery!
You should know that this parrot is naturally native to Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay!!!
Unfortunately, due to people's intervention, it has also populated many places in Europe!
As aesthetic as the photograph above may be, its essence is actually tragic as human-introduced species are one of the most significant causes of wildlife loss...
NB: Etymology. Comes from the first part of the Latin maxim Errare humanum est, perseverare diabolicum ("To err is human, to persevere [in error] is diabolical") from the Sermons of Saint Augustine.
Excellent weekend to all of you … in Brussels, we are “in the fog”

ERRARE HUMANUM EST,PERSEVERARE AUTEM DIABOLICUM.

Rouen (France) - Yesterday I had a nice journalistic crash. Due to the good performance, in Rouen, of all the demonstrations against the pension reform, I thought it was unlikely that we would see clashes on Thursday, March 23, 2022.
However, at the start of the demonstration, I had witnessed the attempt of a handful of yellow vests and excited young people in hoods to divert the demonstration from the official route to enter the historic city. The narrow streets of the right bank being conducive to urban guerrilla warfare. The unions managed the situation well and the 20,000 demonstrators did not give in to provocation by continuing the route established in consultation with the prefecture.
At first, only about twenty troublemakers ventured into the forbidden streets to do battle with the police. After a few tear gas shots, everything seemed to be back to normal.
But, around noon, when the demonstration was over, the thugs found themselves on the right bank of Rouen for a remake of the Yellow Vests. A teacher who was in the wrong place at the wrong time had her thumb blown off by police fire. I had already gone home, because I didn't want to leave my dog alone for too long. Next time I take out my helmet and my press armband, because the thugs are unfortunately back for actions that will discredit the popular movement. If I hate violence, I must admit that the clashes are photogenic. I have to be there. Once a journalist, always a journalist.

Messberghof / Ballinhaus, Hamburg
Named after the prominent ship owner Albert Ballin, the Ballinhaus was one of the first buildings in the Kontorhaus District, built at the same time as the Chilehaus (1922–1924) and based on plans by the architects Hans and Oskar Gerson. In 1938 it was renamed Messberghof (based on its location) following a directive by the Reich Governor Karl Kaufmann that all streets and buildings called after Jews must be given new names. On the inside the building still contains the original entrance hall with this very impressive round stairwell. The floors are made of polished light sandstone plates and the walls are faced with travertine or coloured tiles.

Amazing Georg Eberhard Rumphius (1627-1702), the Blind Pliny of Ambon - whom I've often mentioned in these pages - was a great botanist of the East Indies. More than that, he was also a general naturalist and anthropologist, and he writes most colorfully and engagingly.
In Book VI of his great Herbarium amboinense he waxes eloquent in many pages on our Crinum asiaticum, known to him as Radix toxicaria especially in connection with the Upas Tree, Antiaris toxicaria, for him Arbor toxicaria.
Rumphius in Book II devotes lots of space to the dangers of that Arbor and its deadly poisonous sap or resin. He does that in the context of one of those Dutch Colonial Wars in what is today Indonesia. The Dutch and their proxies on Ambon fought the so-called Fifth Ambonese War (1651) against the Sultan of Ternate (and allies of Makassar) who took exception to their monopoly of the clove trade. The Sulawesans fought against cannon and muskets with blowpipes equipped with poisoned darts (which Rumphius describes carefully and interestingly). The poison was taken from that Upas Tree and became deadly mixed with 'bitter ginger'. In fact the Ambonese-Dutch soldiers were more afraid of those darts than of their own sophisticated metal.
Rumphius describes how once hit by such a dart an antidote was what he - in his Dutch version - coyly calls in Latin 'Excrementum Humanum'. He adds that if a given soldier didn't have any of his own, a fellow would be happy to give him a crap. This stuff served as an emetic, thus expelling the poison. But a far better remedy says our anthropologist-naturalist is a medicine concocted from the root of our pretty pink Crinum asiaticum. It's an even more powerful emetic... And, I would think, just a bit less revolting.
In the inset I've provided a colored engraving taken from Rumphius's Herbarium. It was published by Pierre-Joseph Buc'hoz (1731-1807) around 1775.

Macho Mentality Persists, Says Pope
Notes Attitude Ignores the Novelty of Christianity
VATICAN CITY, FEB. 10, 2008 (Zenit.org).- A discriminatory macho mentality continues to persist in cultures that ignore the novelty of Christianity to recognize the equal dignity of men and women, says Benedict XVI.
The Pope said this Saturday upon receiving in audience participants from the international conference titled "Woman and Man, the 'Humanum' in Its Entirety," which marked the 20th anniversary of the publication of Pope John Paul II's apostolic letter "Mulieris Dignitatem."
The conference, sponsored by the Pontifical Council for the Laity, ended Saturday.
"From the second half of the 20th century until today," said the Pope, "the movement for women's rights in the various settings of social life has generated countless reflections and debates, and it has seen the multiplication of many initiatives that the Catholic Church has followed and often accompanied with attentive interest."
In the apostolic letter "Mulieris Dignitatem," the Pontiff said John Paul II saw the need to "delve into the fundamental anthropological truths of men and women, the equality in dignity and their unity, the rooted and profound difference between the masculine and the feminine, and their vocation to reciprocity and complementarity, collaboration and communion."
The Holy Father continued: "In the face of cultural and political currents that attempt to eliminate, or at least to obfuscate and confuse, the sexual differences written into human nature, considering them to be cultural constructions, it is necessary to recall the design of God that created the human being male and female, with a unity and at the same time an original and complementary difference.
"Human nature and the cultural dimension are integrated in an ample and complex process that constitutes the formation of the identity of each, where both dimensions -- the feminine and the masculine -- correspond to and complete each other."
Mom and dad
Benedict XVI, however, insisted that discrimination continues: "There still persists a macho mentality that ignores the novelty of Christianity, which recognizes and proclaims the equal dignity and responsibility of women with respect to men. There are certain places and cultures where women are discriminated against and undervalued just for the fact that they are women.
"In the face of such grave and persistent phenomena the commitment of Christians appears all the more urgent, so that they become everywhere the promoters of a culture that recognizes the dignity that belongs to women in law and in reality."
"God entrusts to women and to men," said the Pope, "according to the characteristics that are proper to each, a specific vocation in the mission of the Church and in the world. I think here of the family, community of love, open to life, fundamental cell of society.
"In it, woman and man, thanks to the gift of maternity and paternity, together play an irreplaceable role in regard to life."
The Pontiff affirmed the right of children to have a father and a mother, and the state's role to "sustain with adequate social policies all that which promotes the stability of matrimony, the dignity and the responsibility of the husband and wife, their rights and irreplaceable duty to educate their children."
