This is the "Punch" end of the buffet table . . . the floating apples are frozen. These are used instead of ice or a frozen punch ring (hard to make as far as *I* am concerned - I quit doing it years ago and use apples of "seasonal" colors - - - green and yellow in the spring, and red or green (depending on what color the punch is) for Christmas, yellow or red for fall, etc. I used green in the white-cranberry-grape-juice punch for my daughter's wedding. (Picture of THAT punch bowl is in the first comment below . . . it wouldn't "stick" here!
My mom taught me this trick and people love it. The apples can be "trash apples" - things you don't particularly enjoy eating . . . small ones, etc., as long as they are good and clean without bruises or "bad" places since they get quite mushy when they thaw out over several hours time.
They're festive and they make WONDERFUL "ice cubes" - - - keep it very cold without diluting the punch at *all*!!!!

Juan José Hernández nació en Camagüey, provincia de Cuba. Desde muy joven se dedicó a los estudios musicales e integró varias agrupaciones locales como bajista, guitarrista, cantante, compositor.Cursó estudios formales de canto en el prestigioso Instituto Superior de Arte de Holguín (Cuba), al tiempo que trabajó en el Teatro Lírico Rodrigo Pratts donde formó parte de numerosas puestas en escena de óperas, operetas y zarzuelas.
En el año 1996, después de participar en el Concurso Nacional “Buscando El Sonero” y quedar en los primeros lugares , pasó a formar parte como cantante de la reconocida Orquestas Adalberto Álvarez y su Son, con la que visitó diferentes festivales y eventos internacionales.
En el 1999 se traslada a Puerto Rico donde retoma su carrera musical como cantante al lado de figuras de la talla de Ismael Miranda, Humberto Ramírez y el maestro Willie Rosario.
En el 2006 crea su orquesta San Juan Habana,novedoso concepto musical en el que se plasman las influencias de este artísta integrando la música cubana ,puertorriqueña y latina en general.En el 2008, Juan José Hernández y San Juan – Habana lanzan su primer álbum Llegó San Juan – Habana, bajo el sello independiente SJH Records.
Desde su salida al mercado, este álbum fue recibido con júbilo por las emisoras radiales y el público en general, varias canciones fueron ampliamente difundidas como Llegó San Juan – Habana, El Pregón del chocolate, Mar y tierra (en sus dos versiones; salsa y balada) y El amor se fué de rumba.
Actualmente Juan José y SAN JUAN HABANA dan los toques finales a su segunda producción musical.
Simultáneo a su carrera como vocalista, Juan José se labró un espacio como compositor al escribir temas que resultaron en éxitos internacionales como Arroz con Habichuela, que le valió una nominación al Grammy Latino 2007 por su trabajo de composición. Otros temas que le valieron el reconocimiento de los conocedores del género son: A que se te quita, La clave y Mi canto, interpretadas por Ismael Miranda; Con el tiempo y un ganchito, en la voz de Elvis Crespo; En las nubes, grabada por Andy Montañez; Después que pase el temporal, Yo lo que quiero es que me des y Acaramelaíto, cantadas por Edgar Daniel; Amor despiadado, Salsa, ritmo y movimiento y Ay Elena, cantadas por Sammy García y el Sabor de Puerto Rico; y los temas popularizados por Gilberto Santa Rosa, La oveja negra, Un año que se va,Aunque llueva y Conteo Regresivo, por el cual fue nominado nuevamente a los premios Grammy en el 2008
En mayo del 2008 recibió un Premio ASCAP, galardón que otorga la Asociación Americana de Compositores, por el tema Conteo Regresivo como Mejor Canción Tropical. En el 2009 recibió nuevamente el Premio ASCAP como Mejor Canción Tropical del Año por Conteo Regresivo.
Recibió además dos Nominaciones a Premios lo Nuestro 2009 por los temas Ella Menea, que canta el Grupo NG2, y Conteo Regresivo, de Gilberto Santa Rosa.
Para el más reciente CD del Gran Combo compuso las canciones: La espuma y la Ola, La Receta del amor y El Comején,NG2, cuenta con temas de su autoría como Ella Menea, De Carne y Hueso,Tu amor,Buscando amor. En la mas reciente producción de Sammy García y el Sabor de PR, cuenta con 9 canciones de su autoría. para el más reciente disco de Victoria Sanabría escribió ..No lavo, no plancho y no cocino. También produjo, compuso y arregló para el grupo musical Siglo XIX el tema Vengan Mujeres. La Orquesta La Mulenze grabó también Maldición, la orquesta Chaney.. Que hay de malo en éste amor, Moncho Rivera “Yo tengo lo mío”, también Ella Tiene interpretado por la Puerto Rican Power,etc.
Actualmente Juan José acaba de terminar su segunda producción con San Juan Habana, titulada La hora del Té, lanzando su primer sencillo en noviembre de 2011 titulado Zarandea, y en febrero su segundo sencillo que lleva por nombre el título del disco (La Hora del Té) ambos sencillos junto a la nueva producción musical se encuentran disponibles en todas las tiendas y en Itunes y demás tiendas digitales.

En la primera parte de este artículo has aprendido cómo mejorar el humor con la alimentación. Pero tal y como ocurre con las dietas para adelgazar, además de comer bien tenemos que cambiar ciertos hábitos. Con el estado de ánimo pasa exactamente lo mismo. Claro, porque de nada sirve que consumamos más vitaminas o ácidos Omega 3 si después estamos con el estrés a flor de piel, por ejemplo.
¿Qué hábitos ayudan a mejorar el humor?
Hacer ejercicio: Tiene tantas ventajas “mover el esqueleto” que ya no querrás quedarte más sentado todo el día. Gracias al ejercicio se elevan los niveles de dos hormonas, la serotonina y la dopamina. Ambas son responsables de que nos sintamos bien de ánimo. Por otra parte, liberarás todas las toxinas que se acumulan en tu cuerpo al transpirar y según el deporte o disciplina que elijas, eliminarás las tensiones producidas por los problemas financieros, las discusiones de pareja, lo que te gustaría decirle a tu jefe (pero te despediría), etc.
No necesitas entrenar como para competir en un Juego Olímpico, sólo tienes que moverte un poco. Empieza caminando media hora por día de lunes a viernes. Saca a pasear a tu perro (a él también le ayudará), da la vuelta a la manzana, ve al parque, no uses tanto el transporte público o el coche, sube por las escaleras, haz la compra del día en bicicleta, etc. ¿Viste cuántas maneras de mover el cuerpo sin ir a un gimnasio existen?
Mantener el contacto con los demás: En esta era donde todo parece pasar por un teléfono móvil o un PC, es bueno que volvamos a vernos las caras con las personas que amamos y nos hacen bien. ¿Qué tal llamar a tu padre, a tu abuela o a tu mejor amiga para que vayan a almorzar juntos? ¿Por qué en lugar de comunicarte por teléfono con tu madre o tu tía vas hasta su casa? Si, es verdad que tienes muchas cosas que hacer, pero al regresar después de una salida de este tipo te sentirás de excelente ánimo como para continuar por varias horas más. No desaproveches las ocasiones que tienes para decirle a los demás cuanto los amas. Eso también te hará sentir de maravillas. No guardes rencores, perdona, di lo que sientes y te quitarás un gran peso de encima.
Dormir: Ya hemos dicho en otros artículos de Siendo Saludable que la siesta debería ser obligatoria por Ley. Pero más allá de ello, es vital que duermas bien por las noches. Entre 6 y 8 horas es lo normal. Si duermes poco, estarás de mal humor todo el día, te dolerá la cabeza, estarás irascible, no podrás concentrarte, etc. En cambio, si descansas lo suficiente, tu jornada empezará de otra manera, estarás más predispuesto, creativo y te llevarás bien con todo el mundo. Para poder dormir mejor se aconseja por ejemplo cerrar todas las ventanas o puertas para que no ingrese la luz, no mirar películas de acción o las noticias (mejor si no tienes televisión en tu habitación), date un baño antes de dormir, bebe un té de manzanilla o de cualquier hierba que te ayude en la relajación, deja los problemas y el trabajo fuera de la cama.
Tomar sol: ¡A hacer fotosíntesis se ha dicho! Aunque no seas la planta o la flor que decora tu ventana u oficina, todos los seres vivos necesitamos del sol. ¿Has oído hablar alguna vez de la llamada “depresión de invierno” o de “la nieve”? Es muy popular en los países nórdicos y lleva hasta al suicidio. Pero no nos pongamos tan drásticos. Cuando no estamos en contacto con la luz solar nos sentimos sin fuerzas y eso también afecta nuestro humor. Así que ya lo sabes, en la hora del almuerzo, nada de quedarte en el escritorio o cocina de la empresa… ¡Sal a un parque a tomar sol! Te sentirás renovado y con ganas de seguir hasta las 18 y más.
Hacerse masajes: ¿Puede haber algo más placentero en este mundo? Existen diferentes tipos de masajes, los descontracturantes suelen ser los más populares y la buena noticia es que no sólo te ayudará a quitar los nudos que tienes en la espalda (como si fuera poco), sino que mejorará tu humor al momento de terminar la sesión, o antes. Los efectos de los masajes fueron investigados en diversos estudios y se ha llegado a la conclusión de que reducen la ansiedad, el estrés, los nervios y el mal humor debido a que actúan directamente con las hormonas relacionadas a estas sensaciones. Aumentan a su vez la producción de las dos señoritas que hemos hablado antes: la serotonina y la dopamina, así como también la endorfina (esta última está relacionada al amor por ejemplo).
Meditar y/o hacer yoga: Puedes practicar en casa cada día, sólo necesitas una colchoneta, unos sahumerios y música instrumental (que la puedes escuchar desde YouTube). Ya que el estrés es un enemigo íntimo del buen humor, ¡elimínalo meditando o haciendo yoga! Estas prácticas milenarias tienen muchos beneficios (como podrás leer en los artículos de Siendo Saludable haciendo click en los enlaces). Aseguran tu estado de bienestar, te ponen de mejor humor, te ayudan a estar descansado y a que una sonrisa de oreja a oreja se imprima en tu rostro.
Jugar: Si la última vez que jugaste a las escondidas o a la rayuela fue cuando tenías 12 años, ¡vuelve a tu infancia! Siempre podrás disfrutar de una tarde en el parque o en casa con tus hijos, sobrinos, primos, hermanos pequeños, hijos de amigos, etc. Quizás no valga la comparación pero si tienes una mascota que es como tu bebé, ¡juega con ella! Los perros y los gatos son excelentes para ello (además de ser antidepresivos por excelencia). Reír y jugar como cuando eras niña te ayudará a dejar de lado el mal humor y el estrés. Además estarás ayudando a los pequeños a huir de los videojuegos, el smartphone, la tableta, el PC y todos los dispositivos electrónicos que se te ocurran. Sigue leyendo más.

El monasterio de Santa María de Montserrat es un monasterio benedictino situado en España. Se encuentra en la montaña de Montserrat, perteneciente a la comarca catalana del Bages, provincia de Barcelona, a una altura de 720 metros sobre el nivel del mar. Es un símbolo para Cataluña y se ha convertido en un punto de peregrinaje para creyentes y de visita obligada para los turistas.
Dentro de las diferentes acciones que se desarrollan en Montserrat destaca la escolanía que es uno de los coros de niños cantores más antiguos de Europa.
El origen del monasterio es incierto. Se sabe que sobre el 1011 un monje procedente del monasterio de Santa María de Ripoll llegó a la montaña para encargarse del monasterio de Santa Cecília, quedando así el cenobio bajo las órdenes del abad Oliva de Ripoll. Santa Cecilia no aceptó esta nueva situación por lo que Oliva decidió fundar el monasterio de Santa María en el lugar en el que se encontraba una antigua ermita del mismo nombre. A partir del 1082, Santa María pasó a tener abad propio y dejó de depender del abad de Ripoll.
Esta ermita se había convertido en la más importante de todas las que existían en la montaña gracias a la imagen de la Virgen que en ella se veneraba desde el 880. El monasterio pronto se convirtió en santuario lo que le benefició, ya que los donativos y las limosnas recibidas le permitieron ir creciendo de forma constante. A finales del siglo XII, el abad regente solicitó que se permitiera ampliar la comunidad de monjes a 12, mínimo requerido para que se considerara abadía . El siguiente siglo fue el del inicio de la lucha de Montserrat para conseguir su independencia del monasterio de Ripoll. Esta independencia no llegó hasta el 10 de marzo de 1410 y fue concedida por el Papa Benedicto XIII.
En 1493, Montserrat perdió de nuevo su independencia. El rey Fernando el Católico envió al monasterio 14 monjes procedentes de Valladolid y Montserrat pasó a depender de la congregación de esta ciudad castellana. Durante los siglos siguientes se sucedieron los abades catalanes y castellanos. Ese mismo año de 1493, el fraile mínimo Bernat Boil, antes ermitaño de Montserrat, acompañó a Cristóbal Colón en uno de sus viajes a América lo que propició la expansión del culto a la virgen de Montserrat en ese continente.
El siglo XIX fue especialmente trágico para Montserrat: fue incendiado dos veces por las tropas napoleónicas, en 1811 y en 1812; y en 1835 sufrió la exclaustración debido a la desamortización de Mendizábal. El monasterio fue saqueado e incendiado y se perdieron muchos de sus tesoros.
La exclaustración duró poco y en 1844 se restableció la vida en el monasterio. La congregación de Valladolid había desaparecido por lo que Montserrat se convirtió de nuevo en independiente. El monasterio entero se tuvo que restaurar ya que no habían quedado más que las paredes. Desde entonces el monasterio de Santa María de Montserrat no ha dejado de crecer, contiene una de las mejores bibliotecas de España. La congregación actual está formada por unos 80 de monjes. Además, en el monasterio residen los niños que componen la Escolanía de Montserrat, considerada la escuela de canto de más antigüedad en Occidente ya que fue fundada en el siglo XIII.
El monasterio
El conjunto del monasterio está formado por dos bloques de edificios con funciones distintas: por un lado la basílica con las dependencias monacales; y por otro los edificios destinados a atender a peregrinos y visitantes. Estos últimos incluyen diversos restaurantes, tiendas y una zona de alojamiento.

El monasterio de Santa María de Montserrat, como cualquier otro conjunto religioso, consta de dos partes diferenciadas que se complementan. La parte arquitectónica y artística y la parte espiritual y religiosa. En Montserrat esta última parte está definida por la Orden de monjes que rige el monasterio, la Orden Benedictina, con una comunidad de unos 80 monjes que se mantiene al frente del monasterio por más de 1.000 años, que se basa su práctica en la Regla de San Benito y en la oración litúrgica, su lema es :"Ora et Labora". Para San Benito, como bien lo define en prólogo de su Regla, un monasterio es una escuela al servicio del Señor. Esto hace que "el monasterio" sea la base fundamental de la existencia de la comunidad cuyos vínculos deben llegar a ser afectivos al grado de familiares. El monasterio debe hacer fácil, natural y flexible la relación con Dios.
Los benedictinos practican la vida contemplativa, que es la que da prioridad y preferencia al ejercicio de la oración y se establece como un ideal puro de vida cristiana. La relación del hombre con Cristo, la que busca el monje de Montserrat, viene señalada en tres ocasiones en la Regla de San Benito;
Nada anteponer al amor de Cristo (Reg. cap. IV).
Los que nada estiman tanto como Cristo (cap. V).
Nada absolutamente prefiera a Cristo (cap. LXXII).
La relación debe ser muy personal, muy directa llegando a la intimidad. Los monjes benedictinos han de ser hombres de fe, disfrutando del gozo de la misma y hombres de oración, que se opongan al activismo y a la agitación, haciendo de la oración el más alto valor religioso. Se cultiva la caridad entendida como el amor a Dios y la convivencia fraternal.
Los monasterios benedictinos solo mantienen lo principal;
* Estabilidad, contra el peregrinar de los monjes andariegos.
* Vida en común, contra el egoísmo del aislamiento.
* Un Abad, como principio activo de autoridad.
* Un orden en la vida.
Junto a la caridad, la disciplina es una de las directrices importantes. La caridad, propiciada por la vida en común, es el amor al prójimo y lucha contra el egoísmo. La disciplina se eleva contra el protagonismo y la originalidad, concretándose en la obediencia y el cumplimiento de la Regla. De estas directrices nacen los tres votos que procesan los monjes benedictinos:
* Estabilidad: Permanencia y perseverancia en un monasterio.
* Conversión de costumbres: Que la entrega a Dios sea real y no una pura fantasía.
* Obediencia según la Regla: Sometiéndose a la autoridad de un jefe.
El voto de Obediencia según la Regla solo puede llevarse a cabo con la figura del abad. El abad debe ser la representación de Cristo en el monasterio. Gobierna el mismo en sus tres vertientes, la espiritual, la docente y la de gestión.
Para que estos objetivos que se persiguen en la vida monástica puedan llevarse a cabo es imprescindible el silencio. El silencio es el que permite, en la oración, oír a Dios.
La oración culmina con el Oficio Divino y la Sagrada Liturgia, donde el Sacrificio Eucarístico es el centro. La oración es el centro de la vida benedictina.
La vida de un monje está basada en la caridad fraterna, sin caridad no se pude mantener la relación fraternal de la vida monástica ni la entrega a Dios. La Regla dice:
Este es el celo que con ferventísimo amor ejercitarán los monjes, es decir: que se prevengan unos a otros con honores; súfranse pacientísimamente los defectos del alma y cuerpo; préstense a porfía obediencia mutua; ninguno busque su propia utilidad, sino más bien la del otro; tribútense una casta caridad fraterna.
La búsqueda de Dios por medio de Cristo pasa por la Pasión, por la mortificación que el monje debe seguir. Mortificación espiritual que significa la renuncia de voluntaria a la propia voluntad.
El rechazo de la riqueza, de los bienes materiales que estorban el camino de hacia Dios da como resultado la pobreza. La consecuencia de esta pobreza es el trabajo necesario para el mantenimiento de la vida. El trabajo es el elemento más contribuyente al equilibrio de la vida benedictina.
La dirección espiritual y la instrucción litúrgica son las formas de apostolado que una comunidad benedictina ejerce. Esto se concreta en la apertura de la iglesia monástica a quien quiera integrase en la oración colectiva y el monasterio a quien busque un ambiente de paz y serenidad.
La basílica de Montserrat

La basilica de Montserrat es de una sola nave. Se comenzó a construir en el siglo XVI y fue reconstruida por completo en el siglo XIX (año 1811) después de la destrucción en la guerra de la Independencia. La fachada se realizó en 1901.
Alrededor de la única nave se sitúan diversas capillas. La nave está sostenida por unas columnas centrales, con tallas realizadas en madera por Josep Llimona. En la cabecera está situado el altar mayor y la zona del coro. En 1881 el papa León XIII le otorgó la condición de "basílica".
Justo encima del altar mayor se sitúa el camarín de la Virgen al que se accede después de atravesar una portalada de alabastro en la que aparecen representadas diversas escenas bíblicas.
El órgano
El órgano de la iglesia de Montserrat data de 1896 y en 1957 se trasladó al presbiterio. Este órgano esta muy deteriorado. El órgano nuevo que esta previsto inaugurar en el año 2007 es una obra importante que busca situar a Montserrat a un nivel musical internacional.
este órgano esta proyectado por Albert Blancafort, construido por Blancafort, orgueners de Montserrat y financiado por subcripción popular y la obra social de la Caixa de Penedes.
El órgano va ubicado en el lateral de la nave, como es tradicional en Cataluña, ofreciendo una muy buena sonoridad en todo el templo.
Las características del instrumento son:
* 63 registros.
* 4.230 tubos.
* 4 teclados manuales de 58 notas.
* 1 teclado de pedal de 32 notas.
* Transmisión mecánica.
* 12,5 m. de altura, 5,5 de anchura y 4 de fondo.
* 12.000 kg de peso.
El claustro
El claustro del monasterio es obra del arquitecto Josep Puig i Cadafalch. Es de dos pisos sostenidos por columnas de piedra. El piso inferior se comunica con el jardín y dispone de una fuente en su zona central. En las paredes del claustro se pueden ver piezas antiguas, algunas del siglo X.
El refectorio
El refectorio es del siglo XVII y fue reformado en 1925 por Puig i Cadafalch. La parte central cuenta con un mosaico que representa a Cristo mientras que en la zona opuesta se puede ver un tríptico con escenas de la vida de San Benedicto.
El museo

El monasterio dispone de un importante museo dividido en tres secciones distintas:
* Pintura moderna, con obras de artistas de Cataluña como Rusiñol, Casas, Nonell, Mir, Picasso y Dalí; así como una representación del impresionismo] francés con autores como Renoir, Monet, Sisley y Degas.
* Arqueológia del oriente bíblico, donde se muestran objetos de Egipto, Chipre, Mesopotamia y Tierra Santa.
* Pintura antigua, donde se muestran obras de autores como el Greco, Caravaggio (de esta autor se exhibe un importante "San Jerónimo") y Berruguete.
Además se pueden ver otras colecciones como iconografía de Montserrat, orfrebrería religiosa, etc.
Espacio audiovisual
Espacio audiovisual con el título de Montserrat portes endins se expone mediante una serie de audiovisuales las actividades diarias de los monjes así como un paseo virtual por los espacios más representativos del complejo monacal.
El exterior
Plaza de Santa María.
En la parte exterior se distribuyen diversas plazas que sirven para ordenar el conjunto de edificios en la orografía escarpada de la montaña. Este espacio exterior, al que se han añadido diversas obras escultóricas, conforma un "museo al aire libre". Destaca especialmente el Rosario Monumental de Montserrat.
La plaza de Santa María es la plaza principal y la que da acceso al monasterio y es obra también de Puig i Cadafalch. Desde la plaza se puede observar la nueva fachada del monasterio, construida por Francesc Folguera con piedra de la propia montaña. A la izquierda se pueden ver los restos del antiguo claustro gótico.
En la plaza del abad Oliva se encuentran los edificios que dan albergue a los peregrinos. La plaza está presidida por una estatua dedicada al fundador del monasterio, realizada en 1933 en bronce por el escultor Manuel Xuclà.
La última de las plazas de Montserrat es la de la Santa Cruz, dedicada a San Miguel. La plaza recibe su nombre de la cruz que la preside, obra del escultor Josep Maria Subirachs.
La Santa Cueva de Montserrat es el lugar en el que apareció la Virgen. Para acceder a él, y al vía crucis que existe cerca se puede usar un funicular. También hay servicio de funicular para subir hasta Sant Joan desde donde se puede obtener una de las mejores vistas de lugar.
La Virgen de Montserrat
La moreneta
Según la leyenda, la primera imagen de la Virgen de Montserrat la encontraron unos niños pastores en el 880. Tras ver una luz en la montaña, los niños encontraron la imagen de la Virgen en el interior de una cueva. Al enterarse de la noticia el obispo, intentó trasladar la imagen hasta la ciudad de Manresa pero el traslado fue imposible ya que la estatua pesaba demasiado. El obispo lo interpretó como el deseo de la Virgen de permanecer en el lugar en el que se la había encontrado y ordenó la construcción de la ermita de Santa María, origen del actual monasterio.
La imagen que en la actualidad se venera es una talla románica del siglo XII realizada en madera de álamo. Representa a la Virgen con el niño sentado en su regazo y mide unos 95 centímetros de altura. En su mano derecha sostiene una esfera que simboliza el universo; el niño tiene la mano derecha levantada en señal de bendición mientras que en la mano izquierda sostiene una piña.
Con excepción de la cara y de las manos de María y el niño, la imagen es dorada. La Virgen, sin embargo, es de color negro, lo que le ha dado el apelativo popular de La Moreneta (la morenita). Aunque se ha afirmado en ocasiones que el origen de este ennegrecimiento está en el humo de las velas que durante siglos se han colocado a sus pies para venerarla, lo cierto es que en toda Europa se veneran vírgenes negras (p.e. la Virgen de Guadalupe, o la Virgen de la Peña de Francia, en Salamanca), que habría derivado de la cristianización del culto a las antiguas diosas de la tierra (Isis, Cibeles, Artemisa...)
El 11 de septiembre de 1884, el Papa León XIII declaró oficialmente a la Virgen de Montserrat como patrona de Cataluña. Se le concedió también el privilegio de tener misa y oficios propios. Su festividad se celebra el 27 de abril.

Indianapolis, colloquially known as Indy, is the state capital and most-populous city of the U.S. state of Indiana and the seat of Marion County. The Children's Museum of Indianapolis is the world's largest children's museum. It is located at 3000 North Meridian Street, Indianapolis, Indiana, United States, in the United Northwest Area neighborhood of the city. The museum is accredited by the American Alliance of Museums. It is 472,900 square feet (43,933.85 m2) with five floors of exhibit halls and receives more than one million visitors annually. The bridge is often referred to as the Bridge of Sighs because of its supposed similarity to the famous Bridge of Sighs in Venice. However, Hertford Bridge was never intended to be a replica of the Venetian bridge, and indeed it bears a closer resemblance to the Rialto Bridge in the same city.

Lolita Dark is an Epic
Rock band with roots in Southern California and Japan formed in 2012. Their sound weaves together crunching guitar riffs, progressive bass lines, lush harmonies, and complex melodic structures in songs that reflect both angst and optimism in an increasingly interconnected world of disconnected residents.

Fronted by Shibuya-born singer/songwriter Rayko, Lolita Dark provides the soundtrack and visuals of a world where light intersects dark, east meets west, and the past overlaps the present, depicting the, seemingly, redundant circles of our lives and universe.
The core of Lolita Dark is formed by singer/ songwriter / guitarist / multi-instrumentalist Rayko (Ray), Bassist Rain Balen, and Drummer Joey Felix who are also members of the Los Angeles rock band "Dig Jelly", and Okinawan vocalist and keyboardist Machiko (May), and guitarist Patrick Cabrera of prog metal band False Empire.

Lolita Dark's debut CD explored the themes of Salvation, Redemption, Sanctuary, and displayed some of Rayko's internal anguish after the Great Tohoku Earthquake and Tsunami ravaged her homeland.
Lolita Dark has performed at various venues including Bar Sinister, House of Blues, J-Pop events hosted by "Tune in Tokyo", and Rayko's on going event “Tokyo Status” .Lolita Dark has also performed at Anime Expo, Nan Desu Kan, Anime Los Angeles, and Pacific Media Expo, where they opened for Japanese artists BACK-ON (Avex) and D (Avex, Universal Music). Lolita Dark was also invited by NAMM 2015 to host a panel to talk about their success in finding a niche in independent music market.
Lolita Dark is working on their third release while they perform as an opener to national acts from Japan, and headlines local clubs and anime convention circuits.

“Mad Times”, from the "Tokyo Status" album, has been chosen for the in-production Steampunk web series “Tinker". “Wounded Angel”, the recently released song by Lolita Dark, has become the official theme song for Anime California 2014. Lolita Dark's second album, “Queen's Decade”, was released in the spring of 2014 at their opening performance for Gacharic Spin (Universal Music) at Tekko 2014.

La 20/25 è stata un’autovettura costruita dalla Rolls-Royce dal 1929 al 1936. Sostituì la Twenty. In origine era stata studiata per essere condotta dai proprietari, ma molti esemplari furono in seguito guidati da chauffeur. Il motore era simile al sei cilindri montato dalla Twenty. La cilindrata, rispetto a quest’ultimo modello, fu aumentata a 3699 cc. L’alesaggio fu incrementato a 82 mm dai 76 mm del modello citato, mentre la corsa non fu modificata e rimase a 114 mm. Il propulsore era provvisto di un solo carburatore, e l’accensione era sia a bobina che con magnete. Il cambio era a quattro velocità con la leva a destra del guidatore; dal 1932 fu montato un cambio sincronizzato per la terza e la quarta marcia.
Le sospensioni erano a balestra semiellittica su entrambi gli assi con freni sulle quattro ruote assistito da servofreno meccanico. Il freno a mano, con un impianto separato, agiva invece solamente sulle ruote posteriori. Il modello montava il famoso radiatore con sommità triangolare e listelli verticali. Nei primi esemplari le feritoie del radiatore erano azionate manualmente tramite una leva posta sul cruscotto. Questo serviva a far variare la portata d’aria sul radiatore. Gli esemplari successivi avevano un dispositivo automatico consistente in un termostato. Grazie al propulsore più grande rispetto a quello montato sulla Twenty, l’autovettura raggiungeva la velocità di 121 km/h. The Rolls-Royce 20/25 built between 1929 and 1936 succeeded the 20 hp as Rolls-Royce's "small car". It was intended to appeal to owner drivers, but many were sold to customers with chauffeurs.
The in-line 6-cylinder overhead-valve engine was similar to that used in the 20 hp but was enlarged to 3699 cc by increasing the bore from 76 mm to 82 mm, with the stroke remaining at 114 mm. A single Rolls-Royce carburettor was used, and both coil and magneto ignition were fitted. The four-speed gearbox was mounted in unit with the engine and a traditional right-hand change used. Synchromesh was fitted to third and top gears from 1932. The substantial chassis had rigid front and rear axles suspended by half-elliptic springs with braking on all four wheels assisted by a mechanical servo. Separate rear brakes were fitted for the handbrake. The famous Rolls-Royce radiator with triangular top was used with vertical louvres, the angle of which could be adjusted to control engine cooling. To begin with, the radiator shutters were operated manually via a lever on the dash; later cars were fitted with automatic control via a thermostat.
The larger engine allowed the top speed to increase to 75 mph (121 km/h) but many owners had large limousine bodies fitted to the chassis, with the predictable degradation of performance.
Only the chassis and mechanical parts were made by Rolls-Royce. The body was made and fitted by a coachbuilder selected by the owner. Amongst the most famous coachbuilders who produced bodies for Rolls Royce cars are Park Ward, Thrupp & Maberly, Mulliner and Hooper.
The Rolls Royce 20/25 hp is featured in films such as; The League of Gentlemen (1959), Father Came Too! (1963), The Brides of Fu Manchu (1966), To Be or Not To Be (1983), Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989), The Remains of the Day (1993), Simon Sez (1999), Enigma (2001), etc.

Wounded Vietnam veteran offers troops a message of hope

KAISERSLAUTERN, Germany – When Marine Lance Cpl. Anthony Brocato went to see inspirational speaker Dave Roever Aug. 1 at Rhine Ordnance Barracks, the mortuary affairs specialist from Maryland hoped the disfigured Vietnam veteran would offer words of hope to him.
Brocato joined roughly 1,500 troops – many who thought they were simply there to attend run-of-the-mill suicide awareness training. But Roever’s story – suffering horrible burns from a phosphorus grenade while serving on a Navy patrol boat in Vietnam and how he recovered – was told with a mix of humor, wit and subtle seriousness. It kept the crowd laughing, while on the verge of crying.
“It helped out a lot because I just lost a friend to suicide two months ago,” said Brocato, 19, of Bel Air, Md., a Marine reservist training at Landstuhl.
Roever, 65, has spent the past decade travelling the globe to spread his message, “never lose hope.” In Vietnam, Roever was burned beyond recognition when a phosphorous grenade exploded in his hands. In the hospital, he attempted suicide by removing a tube that he thought kept him alive, Roever told the crowd.
“It was my best failure in life, when I pulled the wrong tube out,” Roever said. “I got hungry instead of dead.”
While crowds roared with laughter, Roever insists he’s not a joker. Everything he discusses is a human experience that he went through, he said.
“I take real life experience and choose to look at through the eyes of hope and laughter,” Roever said. “It’s all in how you look at life. It’s a choice.”
During late-July, Roever spoke to troops at events in U.S. Army Garrison Baden-Württemberg in Heidelberg and U.S. Army Garrison Baumholder. The speaking series was organized by Lisa Velez, U.S. Army Garrison Kaiserslautern’s suicide prevention program manager.
“Suicide is the second leading cause of death for Soldiers with the summer months yielding the highest levels of attempts and completions,” Velez said, adding that collaborating with speakers like Roever is key to promoting awareness in military communities.
While at U.S. Army Garrison Kaiserslautern, Roever also met with injured service members at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center.
“I walk in their room and I’m on holy ground. It’s a hallowed sanctuary – I treat it like that. Because there lays a sacrifice for the cause of freedom,” Roever said. “I’ll do everything in my power to see them returned to the best life can give them and the best they can give to life.”
Brocato’s friend was just 18. He was also headed into the Marines, Brocato said. Instead, he fought with his girlfriend and committed suicide. Over the past weeks, Brocato felt himself in a slump over the loss of his friend.
After the crowds left, Brocato approached Roever, offering a rubber wristband – a memorial token with his fallen friend’s name and motocross number. Roever slipped it on and embraced Brocato.
“My buddy lost hope,” Brocato told Roever. “But I want to thank you for giving me hope. I will never lose hope and never give up. It’s not an option.”

Sound Storm was founded in 2002 in Turin, a city in the north west of Italy.The band started composing their own material, with the first three or four tracks finished by the end of 2003.
After two self-released titles ("The Storm is coming..." - Demo, 2005 - and "Northern Wilderness" - EP, 2007 -), in 2008 the band releases the debut album “Twilight Opera” which has got an incredible high quality production, strings section, a 9-pieces choir.

On August 30th Sound Storm celebrates the release of the album with a live show at "Ilha Do Ermal" festival, the biggest metal fest in Portugal, with bands such as Blind Guardian, Angra, Sepultura, Korpiklaani, Firewind and many more.
In summer 2010 Sound Storm toured Mexico for the first time: the band played 11 gigs across the country getting and incredible success and many hundreds people were attending each show.
In 2012 Sound Storm have signed a worldwide deal with Scarlet Records for the release of their new album 'Immortalia'.
Over the years the band has developed a very personal blend of Heavy Metal mixed with a theatrical sense of drama, which was internationally recognised with the release of their critically acclaimed debut 'Twilight Opera'.
This new chapter marks another important milestone for the band, mixing their wide range of influences in a piece of work perfectly balanced between powerful guitars, magnificent symphonic choirs, gothic atmospheres and baroque melodies, which is definitely worth listening to.
Recorded, mixed and mastered at Metal House Studio by Ettore Rigotti (Disarmonia Mundi), 'Immortalia' is a stunning concept album on the quest for eternal life, an amazing journey through literature, poetry and history, a collection of songs linked together by the common theme of the immortality of the soul. The evocative artwork was handled by Felipe Machado Franco (Blind Guardian, Rhapsody Of Fire). 'Immortalia' has been released August 28th, 2012.
Shortly after the band supported Norwegian Gothic Metal veterans Tristania on their European tour. At the end of 2012 Sound Storm also toured Italy with Epica and Haggard (in both case as main support).
The "Immortalia tour" goes on also in 2013, first in some headlining shows across Italy, then in some international festivals (Rommelrock in Belgium w/ Therion, Haggard, etc., Into the Limelight Fest in Holland w/ At Vance) and at the end of the year on tour over Europe again.
The "Rock Opera Unveiled" tour will take place in December featuring Therion, Arkona, Sound Storm and The Devil and it will hit the best stages all over Europe, including the "Eindhoven Metal Meeting" festival.

The SEMA show started Tuesday morning with hundreds of companies bringing in some of the best aftermarket builds in the country to show off their parts and hard work. Anything you could imagine is at the SEMA show, from Hot Rods to the latest in modern performance, there was no shortage of things to see. The Detroit Speed booth was packed day in and day out.
The Detroit Speed crew had Moe's 1969 Charger at the HRIA booth and also had Moe’s 1970 Chevelle on hand at SEMA central and immediately received lots of attention. The team from BCIITV were on hand Tuesday with the Chevelle shooting footage for Competition Ready, the new TV show from Velocity that will air early in 2016. The team followed the Chevelle around all week capturing footage of the run to the Top Ten of the Battle of the Builders, being named a finalist for the Mother's shine award as well as capturing a GM Best G-Machine award. Unfortunately the Chevelle didn't make the top 3 but we were all still very proud of the accomplishments and recognition it garnered throughout the week. Detroit Speed also had the CDV (Cool Delivery Vehicle) that was located at the Mother's Polish booth, came in handy, and received a nice plaque from General Motors. Congratulations to Bobby Alloway for winning the competition. Now Moe's Chevelle wasn't the only Detroit Speed built car making some waves, Moe's 1969 Charger was invited to participate in the Optima Ultimate Street Car Invitational following the SEMA show at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Along with the Charger and the Chevelle, Detroit Speed were well respresented with Detroit Speed "Equipped" cars on the show floor and at OUSCI. We would also like to take a moment to congratulate Tim and Cici Spencer. Tim's Detroit Speed "Equipped" 1969 Mustang won the Mother's Shine award. Tim's Mustang spent some time at DSE early in its life.
With the inclusion of the Charger, Detroit Speed now had three cars in the competition to be named the Ultimate Street Car for 2015. Kyle Tucker drove his trusty Detroit Speed 1970 Camaro while Ryan Mathews drove the Detroit Speed 2012 White Monster Camaro. Test Car foreman, Matt Butts, who was out to oversee the 1970 and 2012 ended up becoming the driver of the Charger and performed rather well driving the newly completed monster of a Charger. Before the competition started Kyle was awarded with his GTV class championship trophy and his overall class champion trophy. The competition was stiff as classes were wiped out for this competition and everyone competed in one big field. Danny Popp came away with the victory for the 2nd time in a row.
Ryan will now turn his focus to the Goodguys Scottsdale Autocross Finals taking place November 20th - 22nd. Kyle already captured the 2015 Goodguys Pro Class points championship and sets his sights on the autocross finals. Unfortunately with the Baja 1000 calling his name, Kyle will not be able to compete in the Scottsdale finals.

Graffiti Alley in The Fashion District runs south of Queen Street West from Spadina Avenue to Portland Street beginning at 1 rush lane, Toronto, Ontario Canada . It is one of the best known location to see Toronto Graffiti.
There is about a kilometer's worth of wall space of varying quality.
A graffiti event called Style in Progress has taken over graffiti alley for a 24-hour period of legal painting, during the 2000s. Nowadays the alley is still frequently painted, but the artist should ask the permission to the building or shop owner.
The Alley was also home to the Secret Swing.
CBC Comedian Rick Mercer often films his famous weekly TV on air Commentary while walking through Graffiti Alley using the Murals as his backdrop. Result being, many Canadians may not know the name of this alley nor the exact location, but they can recognize it once they see it while walking through here in person.

LOCATED WITHIN TORONTO’S FASHION District, Graffiti Alley runs parallel to the trendy stretch of Queen Street West. It encompasses three city blocks and includes the contiguous alleyway of Rush Lane. It’s a popular spot to view some of the best examples of Toronto’s vibrant street art and mural culture.
Previously a hotspot for unsanctioned graffiti art, Graffiti Alley sparked a fight for legalization by the Queen Street West Business Improvement Association. In 2011, it was designated as an area of municipal significance, and StreetARToronto, or StART, a program that provides funding and approval for public murals and graffiti art, was born from the struggle.
Today, Graffiti Alley is a popular backdrop for photoshoots, as well as a place to see works by iconic artists like Duro the Third, uber5000, and ELICSER. It has served as the venue for small street festivals, a set for music videos, and for a time, had a restaurant named after it.

Streams are rare in the district and their value to industry is exemplified in the Kenidjack Valley which contains a remarkable concentration of industrial remains. Where the valley meets the sea, Porthledden Cove is dominated by views to Cape Cornwall but in the valley itself the river course has been repeatedly moved and numerous manmade watercourses (leat systems) skirt the hillsides.
Kenidjack Valley. The entire valley bears extensive evidence of mining. The Kenidjack stream once powered up to fifty waterwheels. When steam engines were installed lower down the valley, two out of five only operated during periods of prolonged dry weather.
