La Catedral de Morelia es un recinto religioso sede de la Arquidiócesis de Morelia de la Iglesia católica en México. Se encuentra ubicada como su nombre propiamente lo dice en la ciudad de Morelia, capital del estado de Michoacán, México. La catedral se localiza en el primer cuadro de la ciudad, conformando la traza del Centro Histórico de Morelia. El edificio fue construido en el siglo XVIII en la época de la Colonia Española, es de estilo barroco y esta realizado en cantera rosada que le da un color peculiar y característico.

# Arquitectónicamente la Catedral de Morelia comparándose con otras Catedrales de México, es similar a la Catedral Metropolitana de la Ciudad de México, Catedral de Puebla, e inclusive en su interior a la Catedral de Guadalajara.

# La catedral es la edificación más emblemática y representativa de Morelia dada su altura, ya que cuenta con dos altas torres, que se divisan por todo el valle de la ciudad. Por su altura, las torres de la Catedral de Morelia (66.8 m) son las cuartas más altas de México, después de las torres del Santuario Guadalupano (Catedral Inconclusa) en Zamora de Hidalgo (105 m), de la catedral de Villahermosa (80 m) y del Santuario de Guadalupe, en San Luis Potosí (68 m).

La actual catedral de Morelia no ha sido la única catedral que ha tenido la ciudad, ya que en 1580, cuando los poderes civiles y eclesiásticos de Michoacán fueron trasladados de Pátzcuaro a Valladolid (anterior nombre de Morelia), se inauguró una catedral, muy inferior a la actual en tamaño y valor artístico. Esa construcción se ubicaba en la esquina de las actuales calles de Corregidora y Abasolo. Sin embargo, debido al crecimiento que experimentó la ciudad a finales del s. XVI e inicios del XVII, así como por causa de un incendio que en 1584 afectó severamente el anterior edificio catedralicio, se hizo necesario pensar en otro templo, más grande, sólido e importante. Por ello es que a inicios del s. XVII el cabildo catedralicio comenzó las gestiones para la construcción de la nueva catedral.

 

Muchos proyectos fueron propuestos, pero hasta mediados de ese siglo fue aceptado el proyecto del arquitecto italiano Vicenzo Barrochio, también conocido como Vicente Barroso de la Escayola por parte del Virrey Francisco Fernández de la Cueva, Duque de Alburquerque el 22 de marzo de 1660 concluyendo continuos trámites y proyectos de construcción durante un largo período de casi 80 años.

 

El día 6 de mayo de 1660 la primera piedra de la construcción fue colocada por el obispo Fray Marcos Ramírez del Prado. La construcción estuvo a cargo del propio Vicenzo Barrochio hasta el año de su muerte, acaecida en 1692, razón por la cual el gran arquitecto no pudo ver concluida su obra monumental. Sin embargo, solo 52 años después del deceso del maestro, sus discípulos lograron terminar la titánica tarea arquitectónica, por lo que la magnífica obra fue concluida en 1744.

 

La catedral sufrió diversos saqueos por parte del ejército independentista, en el año de 1810. Hacia fines del siglo XIX se construyó la reja perimetral que delimita el atrio. A finales de los años 90 del siglo XX se efectuaron diversas obras de restauración exteriores e interiores, con lo cual se preservó mejor la belleza del edificio. También, en los primeros años del siglo XXI, se inauguró la nueva iluminación escénica de esta catedral de Morelia.

 

The Cathedral of Morelia is a religious compound headquarters of the Archdiocese of Morelia of the Catholic Church in Mexico. It is located as the name itself says it in the city of Morelia, capital of Michoacan, Mexico. The cathedral is located on the first frame of the city, forming the trace of the Historic Center of Morelia. The building was built in the eighteenth century the Spanish colonial times, is in Baroque style and is made of pink quarry which gives it a distinctive and characteristic color.

# Architecturally, the Cathedral of Morelia compared against other Cathedrals in Mexico is similar to the Metropolitan Cathedral in Mexico City, Puebla Cathedral, and even inside the Cathedral of Guadalajara.

# The cathedral is the most emblematic and representative buildings of Morelia given their height, since it has two tall towers that can be seen throughout the valley of the city. For his height, the towers of the Catedral de Morelia (66.8 m) are the fourth highest in Mexico after the towers of the Sanctuary of Guadalupe (Cathedral Unfinished) in Zamora de Hidalgo (105 m) of the cathedral in Villahermosa (80 m) and the Sanctuary of Guadalupe, San Luis Potosi (68 m).

The current cathedral of Morelia was not the only cathedral in the city has had since 1580, when civil and ecclesiastical powers were transferred from Patzcuaro Michoacan to Valladolid (Morelia previous name), opened a cathedral, much lower the current size and artistic value. That building was located on the corner of the present streets of Corregidor and Abasolo. However, due to growth experienced by the city at the end of s. Sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries, and because of a fire in 1584 severely affected the former cathedral building, it became necessary to think of another temple, larger, robust and important. That is why at the beginning of s. XVII the cathedral chapter began efforts to build the new cathedral.

 

Many projects were proposed, but until mid-century the project was accepted by the Italian architect Vincenzo Barrochio, also known as the Plaster Vicente Barroso by the Viceroy Francisco Fernandez de la Cueva, Duke of Albuquerque on March 22, 1660 concluding continuous procedures and construction projects over a long period of almost 80 years.

 

On May 6, 1660 the first stone of the building was laid by Bishop Fray Marcos Ramírez del Prado. The building itself was given by Vicenzo Barrochio until his death in 1692, why the great architect could not see completed his monumental work. However, only 52 years after the death of the teacher, his pupils got through the daunting task of architecture, so that the magnificent work was completed in 1744.

 

The cathedral suffered several raids by the army for independence, in the year 1810. By the end of the nineteenth century built the perimeter fence that marks the atrium. In the late 90s of the twentieth century restoration work carried out various internal and external, thereby better preserved the beauty of the building. Also, in the early twenty-first century, opened the new stage lighting of the cathedral of Morelia.

The audience for tonight's gig includes many who were not even born when the New York band adopted their Blondie moniker in 1975, but everyone knows all of the words anyway.

 

In the opulent Somerset House courtyard, Debbie Harry's group perform with the same swagger that propelled them to stardom, reminding or revealing to all how they embedded themselves in our musical psyche.

 

The initial reception is deafening, but the first few tracks generate little momentum, greeted with respectful applause rather than outright euphoria. This being an outdoor gig in the heart of London, the speakers are turned down frustratingly low, and though we all eventually adjust, there's an odd stasis during the opening numbers as a result.

 

One person not lacking crowd-rousing charisma is Harry. Sashaying across the stage to an ever-increasing chorus of cheers, she retains an enigmatic, alluring aura that no one appears able to resist. By the time they close with "Heart of Glass", she's worked the crowd into a frenzy, and they erupt loudly enough to flout local noise pollution laws.

 

Harry's stage presence has not diminished, her voice, the heartbeat of the band's best tracks, shifting from communicative to powerful and back again. Even though she's afforded laudable support by Clem Burke's tireless drumming, and Chris Klein and Tommy Kessler's searing guitar solos, it's the vocals that will linger in everyone's minds longest, whether adding punch to "One Way or Another" or soaring through the standout "Maria".

 

Indeed, Blondie as a whole possess a rare gift for smoothly switching stylistic gears; the diversity of their back catalogue is often overlooked, but tonight their set encompasses a wealth of genres, all bathed in the band's trademark aloof cool. The lo-fi growls of "Atomic" are balanced with the poppier strains of "Sunday Girl", while proto-rap hit "Rapture" bounces off an irrepressible backbeat.

 

Equally apparent as they storm through their set is the impressive depth in quality of their music. Everyone sings joyously along to the choruses of "Call Me" and "Hanging on the Telephone", the melodies and lyrics as indelible to the crowd as birthmarks, and each time Harry asks the audience to lend their voices, she's met with a volley of responses.

 

It's almost 40 years since Blondie first formed and, after tonight, everyone's hoping for 40 more.

On Monday, The Willows and Junior camp were entertained by the fabulous “Muttville Comix Dog Show.” The children thoroughly enjoyed watching all the dogs perform their wonderful tricks. While the children attempted to make Olaf snow globes in Camper Creations, not all things went as planned. Instead, the Willows made Olaf, our Frozen Friend Snowman, to celebrate our theme of “Let it Go.” In Ceramics, the children painted and decorated their hand or foot prints. Their ceramic projects will be sent home shortly.

 

To end our wonderful week, our parents joined the Willows in all of our activities.There was great anticipation for this day as all the campers wanted to demonstrate their abilities in the many activities including swim.

In 1964 my late father, Beaudry Glen Pautz, accepted a job as Press Officer for the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) in Pretoria, South Africa. It was the start of the Cold War "space race", the CSIR collaborated with the Americans and Beau received a lot of space programme material and press kits from NASA. I still have most of those historic documents in my collection. Here's a selection of them.

Tirumala Venkateswara Temple is a famous Vedic temple in the hill town ofTirumala, near Tirupati in Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh. It is around 600 km (370 mi)[2] from Hyderabad, 138 km (86 mi)[3] from Chennai and 291 km (181 mi)[4] from Bangalore.

The Tirumala Hill is 853m above sea level and is about 10.33 square miles (27 km2) in area. It comprises seven peaks, representing the seven heads ofAdisesha, thus earning the name Seshachalam. The seven peaks are called Seshadri, Neeladri, Garudadri, Anjanadri, Vrushabhadri, Narayanadri and Venkatadri. The temple is on Venkatadri (also known as Venkatachala or Venkata Hill), the seventh peak, and is also known as the "Temple of Seven Hills". The presiding deity of the temple is Lord Venkateswara, an incarnation of lord Vishnu. Venkateswara is known by other names: Balaji, Govinda, and Srinivasa.[5] The temple lies on the southern banks of Sri Swami Pushkarini, a holy water tank. The temple complex comprises a traditional temple building, with a number of modern queue and pilgrim lodging sites.

The temple is the richest pilgrimage centre, after the Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, of any faith (at more than 500 billion[6][7]) and the most-visited place of worship in the world.[8][9][10] The temple is visited by about 50,000 to 100,000 pilgrims daily (30 to 40 million people annually on average), while on special occasions and festivals, like the annual Brahmotsavam, the number of pilgrims shoots up to 500,000, making it the most-visited holy place in the world.[11]

There are several legends associated with the manifestation of the Lord in Tirumala. According to one legend, the temple has a murti (deity) of Lord Venkateswara, which it is believed shall remain here for the entire duration of the present Kali Yuga.

The Pallavas of Kanchipuram (9th century AD), the Cholas of Tanjore (10th century), and Vijayanagara pradhans (14th and 15th centuries) were committed devotees of Lord Venkateswara. During the invasion of Srirangam by Malik Kafur in 1310–11 AD, the Ranga Mandapam of the temple served as the shelter for the presiding deity of Srirangam, Ranganatha Swamy. Later, under the rule of the Vijayanagara emperors, was when the temple gained most of its current wealth and size, with the donation of diamonds and gold.[14] In 1517 Vijayanagara ruler Sri Krishna Deva Raya, on one of his many visits to the temple, donated gold and jewels, enabling the Vimana (inner shrine) roofing to be gilded. Statues of Sri Krishna Deva Raya and his spouse stand in the premises of the temple. After the decline of Vijayanagara Empire, kings from states such as Mysore and Gadwal worshiped as pilgrims and gave ornaments and valuables to the temple. Maratha general Raghoji I Bhonsle (died 1755) visited the temple and set up a permanent administration for the conduct of worship in the temple.[15]There is an idol of Raja Todar Mal who was the revenue minister of Akbar, greeting pilgrims in the premises of the temple.

It was the first day of the 2019 Easter holidays, and what better way to spend a Monday morning than heading off for a church-exploring bike ride rather than going to work? I caught the train up to Halesworth, and then cycled off out into the hills. The villages and their pretty parish churches come thick and fast around here, and almost all of them are open to pilgrims and strangers daily. There is a good mixture too, round towers, square towers, hardly-any-left towers, reed-thatched roofs, beflinted-porches, and all manner of treasures inside. A fair number of East Anglia's best small churches are in this area. But even given this variety, there is nowhere else in East Anglia quite like Huntingfield church.

 

This is one of Suffolk's more obscure villages, but the Huntingfield name was that of one of the county's most significant families. Huntingfield is the nearest village to the great pile of Heveningham Hall, with one of the largest Georgian frontages in England. It was rebuilt by the Huntingfields in the 18th Century. Standing on the road and looking across the sheep-scattered lawns to the great building, it is easy to imagine the gulf between the landed gentry and their poor workers in those days. Sandwiched between the traumas of the 17th Century and the energy of the 19th Century, it was the landowners of the 18th Century who had every reason to think that their world was permanent and unchanging, that it would always be as they knew it. Farming sheep, collecting art, patronising musicians, tinkering with primitive science and technology, dispensing benevolent largesse to the poor on their estate - it is a world that is at once attractive and appalling. For them, the Church of England was both an arm of the state dispensing laws, justice and charity, and the setting for the weekly liturgical reinforcement of the puritan-refracted Elizabethan settlement.

 

But the Industrial Revolution would bring it all to an end, and in more ways than one. In the second half of the latter century, many parish churches were drawn by the excitement of the age into major reconstructions and revisions. Their impulse came from Oxford, where the Tractarians had a vision of the Church of England as a national Church, no longer a protestant sect but restored to the catholicity of its roots, and from Cambridge, where the ecclesiologists decided what a building of the national Church should properly look like. As the young men graduated and were presented to parishes across the country, their ideas spread like wildfire. They had come from their univserities to churches fitted out for protestant worship, with whitewashed walls and box pews focused on the high pulpit, the rarely-used altar gathering dust in the chancel or even discarded. Preaching houses rather than sacramental spaces, and any surviving traces of the building's medieval life survived, perhaps, simply because they were not understood.

 

Essentially, what happened in England between about 1830 and 1870 was a cultural revolution, a new wave of ideas and the reaction to them. The litugical changes proposed by the Oxford Movement were, at first, objectionable, and then merely controversial. But gradually they seeped into the mainstream, until by about 1890 they had become as natural as the air we breathe. Galvanised by the ferment of ideas and the possibilities of the industrial age, these young men convinced their rich patrons, revolutionised their buildings, and in so doing altered their parishes forever. They often looked to London stars like Scott and Butterfield, or local plodders like Phipson, or else mavericks like Salvin. The demands of the new liturgical arrangements, coupled with a renewed sense of the need to glorify God, led them into what was often a rebuilding rather than a restoration.

 

Internal decorations were, perhaps, the bespoke work of the architect, Witness Phipson's meticulous attention to detail at St Mary le Tower, Ipswich. Other restorers relied on the big picture, a vision that encompassed walls and floors, but left the fittings to others. By the centenary of the movement in the 1930s, one Anglican clergyman could observe "It is as if the Reformation had never happened". Well, not quite. And now, the pendulum has swung the other way, leaving the ritualists high and dry. But the evidence of the energy of those days survives, especially at Huntingfield, where William Holland, the vicar, drove the Oxford Movement through the heart of the parish, like a motorway through a Site of Special Scientific Interest.

 

The Hollands were the patrons of the living, which gave them the authority and the money to reimagine Huntingfield church on a grand scale. Oxford and Cambridge universites were exclusively for men, of course, but it so happened that William Holland had an energetic and visionary wife. Between 1859 and 1866, Mrs Mildred Holland planned, designed and executed the most elaborate redecoration of a church this county had seen since the Reformation. For seven years, she lay on her back at the top of scaffolding, first in the chancel (angels) and then in the nave (saints on the ceilure, fine angels on the beam ends), gilding, lettering and painting this most glorious of small church roofs. Her husband kept a journal throughout this period, and there is no suggestion that she had any assistance, beyond that of workmen to raise the scaffolding, and a Mr E.L. Blackburne FSA, who was, apparently, an 'authority on medieval decoration'. J.P. St Aubyn was responsible for the structural restoration of this largely 15th century building, and it is very restrained and merciful. But you come here to see the painted roofs, which are perfectly splendid. You can activate the floodlighting with a pound coin in a box at the west end of the north aisle, and the illuminated work is breath-taking.

 

What else is there to see? Some 15th Century window borders in the east window of the south aisle depict hares and a little dog with a bell around his neck. And what is that at the bottom, a dragon, or a winged lion? Evidence of the church's continued High Church tradition into the 20th Century is in statues of the Blessed Virgin and child flanked by St Francis and St Dominic in a triple image niche set in a pillar of the north arcade. Was it originally for a rood group, perhaps above an altar? Any church is a palimpsest, history written and rewritten over its skin as a touchstone to changing liturgical imperatives and the long generations of its people. Across this canvas the enthusiasms and Huntingfield in Mildred Holland's time are writ large, and will last long.

 

And there is something else, and a great curiosity. Ann Owen, the Vicar's wife in the neighbouring parish of Heveningham, is also said to have been responsible for 19th Century work in the church there, this time in the form of stained glass. Visiting Heveningham, I am afraid it is difficult for me to find this convincing, although of course one likes to think it was so, and that the two women artists were friends, or possibly even rivals. But Mildred's story has been brilliantly captured in a recent novel, The Huntingfield Paintress by Pamela Holmes. Pamela tells me that 'it was a comment of yours about Mildred and Ann Owen which sparked my determination to write my first novel' which is very kind of her, although I am sure it was easy to be inspired when one stands here surrounded by Mildred Holland's work.

 

You might thnk that the towering font cover is also by her, but in fact it is her memorial, placed here by her husband, as is the art nouveau lectern. It is as if her art was a catalyst, inspiring others to acts of beauty. She died in the 1870s, predeceasing her husband by twenty years. They are both now buried by the churchyard gate. How fitting, that they should lie in the graveyard of the church they loved so much, and to which they gave so much of their time, energy and money.

CHESTER GOULD

 

Chester Gould / DICK TRACY (November 20 ,1900 –May 11 ,1985 ) was a U.S. cartoonist and the creator of the Dick Tracy comic strip , which he wrote and drew from 1931 to 1977 . Gould was known for his use of colorful, often monstrous, villains .

 

Early years

 

Chester Gould was born and raised in Pawnee, Oklahoma . In 1919 , his family moved to Stillwater, Oklahoma where he attended Oklahoma A & M (now Oklahoma State University ) and was a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity, until 1921 . That year, he moved to Chicago where he transferred to Northwestern University . He graduated from Northwestern in 1923. Fascinated by the comics since childhood, Gould quickly found work as a cartoonist and was hired by the William Randolph Hearst 's Chicago Evening American newspaper for whom he produced his first comic strips "Fillum Fables" beginning in 1924 and "The Radio Catts". He also produced a topical strip about Chicago, "Why It's a Windy City." Gould married Edna Gauger in 1926 and their daughter, Jean, was born in 1927.

In 1931 , Gould was hired as a cartoonist with the Chicago Tribune and introduced the Dick Tracy cartoon. He drew the comic strip for the next 46 years from his home in Woodstock, Illinois . His work on the strip won him the Reuben Award for 1959 and 1977. He was also given a Special Edgar Award from the Mystery Writers of America in 1980.

 

Gould's stories were rarely extensively preplanned as he preferred to improvise his stories as he drew them. While fans praised this style as creating exciting stories, it sometimes created awkward plot developments that were difficult to resolve. A notorious case was when Gould had Tracy trapped in an inescapable deathtrap in a caisson . Gould first depicted Tracy addressing Gould personally and having the cartoonist magically extract him. It was a move that his publisher, Joseph Patterson , personally vetoed and ordered a redraw of the sequence.

 

Gould visited the workshop of an engineer friend named Al Gross who invented the walkie-talkie , a portable two-way radio and the pager . Gross was working on a wrist-watch version of the two-way radio which he showed to Gould. Gould asked Al Gross if he could use this concept in his Dick Tracy comic strip. Gross said yes and in January 1946, Dick Tracy started wearing the wrist radio. [2] Gould created a cartoon character named Brilliant, an engineer who worked for a company run by cartoon character Diet Smith. Brilliant was modeled after Al Gross. Whenever Gould needed a futuristic invention that his cartoon characters could use, Al Gross would give him ideas such as the video security camera, handheld video camera, and wrist video camera.

 

Late in the period of Gould's control of it, the Tracy strip was widely criticized as too right-wing in character, and as excessively supportive of the police . This commentary argued that Gould was using the strip to push his own right-wing agenda such as attacking the rights of the accused at the expense of storytelling. Additionally, the late 1950s saw a changing newspaper readership that was perhaps less tolerant of Gould's grotesque style. Whereas in the 1940s when Gould introduced an odoriferous, chewing tobacco spitting character, B.O. Plenty, with little significant complaint from readers; the later introduction of the crooked lawyer named "Flyface" and his relatives, all of whom were surrounded by swarming flies at all times, created a negative reader reaction strong enough for papers to drop the strip in large numbers. There was then a dramatic change in the strip's paradigm to feature science fiction plot elements, with regular visits to the moon. This led to an increasingly fantastic procession of enemies and stories that largely abandoned the strip's format of urban crime drama. The Apollo 11 moon landing prompted Gould to abandon this phase. Finally, Dick Tracy was beset by the overall trend in newspaper comics away from strips with continuing story lines and toward those whose stories are largely resolved within one series of panels.

 

Gould, his characters and improbable plots were satirized in the Fearless Fosdick sequences (supposedly drawn by "Lester Gooch") appearing within Al Capp 's comic strip Li'l Abner ; a notable villain was Bomb Face , a gangster whose head was a bomb.

 

Gould retired December 25, 1977 and died May 11, 1985 of congestive heart failure. His life and creations are memorialized in the Chester Gould-Dick Tracy Museum in Woodstock, Illinois.

The connection with the ordinary flow of life created new dimensions in the world: stratified, recombinant and engaging.

 

In occasion of the 50 years of FLUXUS we have decided to research on this wonderful form of expression, both for the innovation it has provided in the arts and for its connection with many of the mutation processes that are going on with contemporary humanity and their ability to experience media, communicate and interact.

 

At the event Mercoledì da NABA series of events, on December 15th 2010, we will hold a workshop/performance in which we will build a Fluxus Box using Augmented Reality and other cross-medial techniques and technologies.

 

The ojective will be to research on the Fluxus Box approach, and to appy it at a “meta” level. The objects contained in the box will be tools through which the experience of multiple Fluxus Boxes will be holdable, remixable, juxtaposable, recombinable, enacting a meta-performance encompassing possibly infinite remixed reenactments of Fluxus performances, experiences and events.

 

The box we will produced will be donated to the NABA, and the custom software that will be created for the occasion will be released under a GPL2 licensing scheme, so that it will be usable by artists, students and practitioners worldwide, in a further level of the performance.

A series of co-operative shops right in your own home! That's one of the attractive features of Madison Gardens, 2425 Kings Highway (E. 24th St. to Bedford Ave.). These shops are for the use of tenants, and they are not visible from the street. But what an accommodation to the fortunate residents of the Gardens. These shops are connected with the different apartments by the interhouse telephone, so service can be practically immediate.

 

Another unique feature of this apartment house is the parcel receiving room, where the woman who has been out all afternoon can be sure of finding her purchases safe and sound on her arrival home.

 

In addition, this is a genuine gardent [sic] apartment, with garden court at the front, landscaped and shrubbed and 100 by 65 feet in size. Transit factilities [sic] are the finest, with the Kings Highway station of the B. M. T. Brighton line a short distance away, trolleys and buses operating almost at the door.

 

The apartments are in 2½, 3 and 4 rooms with bath, and 5 rooms and 2 baths. Sunlight and air are permanent features, since the building is completely detached on all sides. The kitchens have every built-in feature that would be looked for in this type of house, and in addition an electric clock in the dining alcove. Best of all, from the tenants' point of view, is the fact that no charge is made for the electric refrigeration. Bathrooms are in colored tile, with hampers, Venetian mirrored medicine cabinets, and in the 5-room apartments stall showers.

The Willows campers have been kept very busy these past three weeks. The days have been flying by way too quickly.

 

The children enjoyed this weeks theme of “We’re Too Cool”. The Willows had fun decorating bumblebee thermometers in Camper Creations. In Ceramics, each child enjoyed making their faces out of clay. Over the next two weeks, they will be painting their projects and then they will be sent home.

 

Our wonderful and exciting week finished on Friday with all our Willows family members joining us for visiting day. The children couldn’t wait to share their favorite activities with their parents, while the parents had fun pretending to be campers. Lunch together under the pavilion was a great way to end this special day. We hope you had as much fun as we did. Of course, swimming and sports are with us every day.

We look forward to continued fun over the remaining five weeks of camp. Next week’s exciting activity is Waterworld and this should be a terrific experience for all.

I thought this was a great shot. The photographer asked for some blue sky, clouds were optional. I used a sky shot I hade and applied it on sveral layers as light applicators. I used a line conversion of the tree as a block as well.

Mingle Media TV and Red Carpet Report host Tamara Krinsky were on hand for The Academy’s press preview of the food and décor for the 87th Oscars® Governors Ball, which will immediately after follow the Oscars ceremony on Sunday, February 2nd, 2015.

 

Once again, Academy governor Jeffrey Kurland, event producer Cheryl Cecchetto and master chef Wolfgang Puck are at the helm to make this event a memorable one. This winning team were on hand today as we got to see all of the food, beverages and decor unveiled.

 

Master chef Wolfgang Puck and Matt Bencivenga, chef partner of Wolfgang Puck Catering, have created an amazing menu with more than 50 dishes, from one-bite hors d’oeuvres to small-plate entrees including signature Puck favorites like smoked salmon Oscars, chicken pot pie with shaved black truffles, and mini American Wagyu burgers with aged Cheddar. There will also be a lobster “BLT,” beet latkes with pastrami duck and apple mustard along with dover sole with orange miso vinaigrette. The chef will be sourcing local organic produce, for dishes like parsnip soup with white chocolate, pears and 24k gold and artichokes with asparagus, fava beans, baby beets and citrus vinaigrette.

 

The pastry team will have Della Gossett, Spago’s executive pastry chef, Kamel Guechida, corporate director of pastry for the Wolfgang Puck Fine Dining Group, and Jason Lemonnier, Los Angeles pastry chef for Wolfgang Puck Catering. These chefs will create elegant desserts for the guests like an apple millefeuille with cider jelly, peanut butter strawberry lollipop, and milk chocolate panna cotta with raspberry and cherry. Don’t worry, there will still be the traditional 24k gold chocolate Oscars that we all look forward to trying out each year.

 

There will be more than 900 event staff managed by CEO Carl Schuster ensuring that every detail and request is handled with care, which is why this is Wolfgang Puck’s 21st year creating the menu for the Governors Ball.

 

Not to be forgotten, but we did also get to see this year’s “envelope” designed and produced by Marc Friedland which will be ever so important as they will bear the names of the Oscar winners, but like everyone else, we will have to wait until February 22nd, and see who the winners are on Oscar Sunday!

Ici, vivaient guetteurs et trafiquants, condottieres à la tête d’une écurie de go-fast et entretenant des chenils remplis de mâtins rares et dangereux. Ici, l’État central ne remplissait plus ses tâches régaliennes, ici la modernité laïque était entrée en crise. Mais ce que j’avais découvert, en collectionnant ces captures d’écran, c’était à quel point l’urbanisme de la banlieue parisienne était, strictement, d’obédience médiévale. On était passé, d’un seul mouvement et sans même s’en rendre compte de Château-Gaillard à la Cité 4000, du Donjon de Vincennes aux tours de Sarcelles, du château de Gisors aux choux fleurs de Créteil.J’ai même retrouvé la colonne détruite du désert de Retz dans le babylonien château d’eau de Noisiel.Des hauteurs de Rosny à celle de Chanteloup, du plateau de Clichy à la dalle d’Argenteuil, on avait bizarrement livré des pastiches inconscients de la grande architecture militaire médiévales : les environs de Paris s’étaient retrouvés à nouveau fortifiés, la vieille tour de Montlhéry n’était plus solitaire, et même les immeubles de briques rouges qui avaient succédé à l’enceinte de Thiers évoquaient des murailles.

Et ce que j’avais initialement pris pour des anomalies, des accidents malheureux du post-modernisme, les grand ensembles voûtés et cannelés de Ricardo Boffil, étaient peut-être ce qui exprimait le mieux tout cela — ou du moins qui clôturaient avec le génie le plus clair cet âge des grands ensembles.

Car c’était cela, ces Carcassonnes, ces Acropoles, ces Atlandides qui surnageaient avec le plus de conviction au milieu des captures d’écrans de ruines médiévales qui s’accumulaient sur mon bureau.

Si décriées, dès leur construction, pour leur kitch intolérable ces mégastructures me sont soudain apparues comme absolument nécessaires.

Si les Villes Nouvelles n’ont jamais existé, et persisteront dans la mémoire des hommes, elles le doivent à ces rêveries bizarres et grandioses, à ces hybridations impossibles entre les cités idéales de Ledoux et les utopies corbuséennes.

L’Aqueduc de Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, les Espaces d’Abraxas à Marne-la-Vallée, les Colonnes de Saint-Christophe à Cergy-Pontoise sont les plus belles ruines du Grand Paris.

C’est pour ces raisons que, à partir de 1954, le Ministre à la Reconstruction et au Logement évalue le besoin en logements à 2.000.660, devenant ainsi une priorité nationale. Quelques années plus tard à l’appel de l’Abbé Pierre, le journaliste Gilbert Mathieu, en avril 1957 publiait dans le quotidien Le Monde une série d’articles sur la situation dramatique du logement : Logement, notre honte et dénonçant le nombre réduit de logements et leur impitoyable état. Robert Doisneau, Banlieue après-guerre, 1943-1949 /Le mandat se veut triple : reconstruire le parc immobilier détruit durant les bombardements essentiellement du printemps/été 1944, faire face à l’essor démographique et enfin résorber l’habitat insalubre notamment les bidonvilles et les cités de transit. Une ambition qui paraît, dès le début, très élevée, associée à l’industrialisation progressive de la nation entre autre celle du secteur de la construction (voir le vidéo de l’INA du 17 juillet 1957 intitulée La crise du logement, un problème national. Cela dit, l’effort pour l’État français était d’une ampleur jamais vue ailleurs. La double nécessité de construire davantage et vite, est en partie la cause de la forme architecturale excentrique qui constituera les Grands Ensembles dans les banlieues françaises. Cinq caractéristiques permettent de mieux comprendre ce terme : la rupture avec le tissu urbain ancien, un minimum de mille logements, une forme collective (tours, barres) de quatre jusqu’à vingt niveaux, la conception d’appartements aménagés et équipés et enfin une gestion destinée pour la plupart à des bailleurs de logement social.

Pour la banlieue parisienne leur localisation s’est opérée majoritairement dans la périphérie, tandis que dans les autres cas, plus de la moitié a été construite dans le centre ville, le plus souvent à la limite des anciens faubourgs.

C’est le triomphe de l’urbanisme fonctionnel et rationaliste cher à Le Corbusier. Entre 1958 et 1973, cent quatre-vingt-quinze Zones à Urbaniser en Priorité (ZUP) sont créées, comprenant deux millions de logements, essentiellement de type populaire en Habitations à Loyer Modéré (HLM), mais pas exclusivement, remplaçant ainsi les anciennes Habitations à Bon Marché (HBM) crées en 1894. Selon le décret du 27 mars 1954 qui en fixe les conditions d’attribution, les bénéficiaires de la législation n’ont pas changé, ce sont toujours des « personnes peu fortunées vivant principalement de leur salaire », selon la loi Strauss de 1906. En 1953, tous les HLM voient leur surface maximale se réduire, en passant de 71 à 65 mètres carrés pour un quatre pièces. L’accès au logement des familles modestes se fera donc au détriment de la qualité et quantité de l’espace habité pour des familles nombreuses. À ce propos, le sociologue Thierry Oblet a bien montré comment se sont articulées les pensées des architectes et des ingénieurs modernistes, avec leur souci planificateur d’un État interventionniste[8] grâce à l’hégémonie du béton, de la ligne droite et de la standardisation de la construction.

Les exemples de cette architecture restent nombreux : de la Cité de 4000 (pour 4000 logements) à la Courneuve en Seine-Saint-Denis (93) aux logements de 15 étages aux balcons pétales, appelés « Chou-fleur » à Créteil en Val-de Marne (94) dessinés au début des années 70 par l’architecte Gérard Grandval. De la Cité des nuages à Nanterre dans les Hauts-de-Seine (92) à la Grande borne construite entre 1967 et 1971 sur le territoire des communes de Grigny et Viry-Châtillon, dans l’Essonne (91) en passant par la Noé à Chanteloup-les-Vignes dans le département des Yvelines (78) scénario du célèbre film La Haine[9] de Kassovits.

Récemment, plusieurs expositions photographiques se sont

concentrées sur cette nouvelle figure de l’urbanisme fonctionnaliste français de l’après-guerre. Par exemple Toit&Moi, 100 ans de logement social (2012), Les Grands ensembles 1960-2010 (2012) produite par l’école supérieure d’arts & médias de Caen/Cherbourg, selon un projet du Ministère de la Culture et de la Communication. Enfin l’exposition Photographie à l’œuvre, (2011-2012) d’Henri Salesse, photographe du service de l’inventaire du Ministère de la Reconstruction et de l’Urbanisme et Voyage en périphérie (2012) de Cyrus Cornut.

 

Il s’agissait là non seulement d’un progrès matériel, mais aussi démocratique, donnant ainsi à chaque citoyen, la possibilité d’accéder à son petit appartement doté de tous les conforts de l’époque. La recherche d’économie et de rapidité dans la conduite des chantiers portent à l’utilisation du béton comme matériel privilégié et à des plans architecturaux aussi simples que possible avec la réalisation de logements standardisés, dont les barres et les tours deviennent les figures principales : Au mitan des années cinquante, apparurent d’étranges formes urbaines. Des immeubles d’habitation de plus en plus longs et de plus en plus hauts, assemblés en blocs qui ne s’intégraient pas aux villes existantes. Ces blocs s’en différenciaient ostensiblement et parfois comme systématiquement, s’en isolaient. Ils semblaient faire ville à part. Surtout ils ne ressemblaient pas à ce qu’on avait l’habitude d’appeler ville. Et leur architecture aussi, qui était tellement déroutante. On les a nommés » grands ensembles. Bref, entre 1946 et 1975 le parc immobilier français passe de 12,7 millions à 21 millions de logements. Environ 8 millions de ceux-ci sont neufs, construits entre 1953-1975 – dont la moitié sous forme de grands ensembles – et près de 80 % des logements grâce à une aide de l’État avec des crédits publics. Le nombre de logements sociaux passe de moins de 500.000 à près de 3 millions, dont 43 % en région parisienne, où la demande est la plus forte[11]. Ce qui témoigne d’un effort énorme. Alors que l’hiver 1954 est particulièrement rigoureux, l’abbé Pierre lance un appel en faveur des sans-logis et déshérités et organise des collectes de vêtements et de nourriture pour les plus démunis. Cela nous rappelle également que les inégalités sociales restaient particulièrement importantes à l’époque, malgré les débuts de la croissance économique, et que la crise du logement n’était pas encore complètement résolue. C’est l’urbaniste Marcel Rotival dans un numéro d’Architecture d’Aujourd’hui de juin 1935 (vol.1, n°6, juin 1935, p.57) qui propose pour la première fois cette terminologie pour désigner les Habitations à Bon Marché (HBM) et leur transformation en Habitations à Loyer Modéré (HLM), par la loi du 21 juillet 1951: « Nous espérons, un jour, sortir des villes comme Paris, non seulement par l’avenue des Champs Elysées, la seule réalisation de tenue sans laquelle Paris n’existerait pas, mais sortir par Belleville, par Charonne, par Bobigny, etc., et trouver harmonieusement disposés le long de larges autostrades, au milieu de grands espaces boisés, de parcs, de stades, de grandes cités claires, bien orientées, lumineusement éclairées par le soleil. » Largement reprise depuis les années 1950 dans le jargon administratif et public, elle apparaît pour la première fois dans un texte officiel qu’en 1973 avec la Circulaire Guichard, alors Ministre de l’Aménagement du territoire, de l’Equipement, du Logement et du tourisme. Celui-ci met un terme à la politique initiée après-guerre afin « d’empêcher la réalisation des formes d’urbanisation désignées généralement sous le nom de “grands ensembles”, peu conforme aux aspirations des habitants et sans justification économique sérieuse ». Paradoxalement, le terme de grands ensembles s’officialise donc au moment même où ils son mis en question. ZUP est un acronyme qui signifie Zone à Urbaniser en Priorité. Elles ont été créées par le décret N°58-1464 du 31 décembre 1958, afin de planifier et d’encadrer sur le territoire national, le développement urbain pour répondre à la carence de logements face à l’accroissement démographique et favoriser enfin la résorption de l’habitat insalubre. Bagattelle d’Inverno, l’ultima grande sfida #snellobb04

 

Birichinate, cammuffamenti, trasvestimenti, scherzi… insomma, in una parola: Carnevale!

Comunque lo si dica e comunque lo si festeggi, il Carnevale è da secoli una festa in cui la parola d’ordine è “divertirsi”.

Quindi, bando all’austerità e bando alle restrizioni, potevamo, noi di MondoSnello, non cogliere quest’occasione perfetta di Gusto e di Benessere, per vivere l’ultimo grande appuntamento delle gare di cucina di Snello Blind Box?

 

Eccoci qui, allora, amici di Mondosnello, estimatori dei prodotti Snello Rovagnati e appassionati Food Blogger che partecipate con noi ormai da un tempo che comincia a farsi lungo, perfino “tradizionale” (proprio come ci piace ;-)) a darvi il benvenuto a questa quarta sfida tra pentole, fornelli e… qualcosa di speciale – sennò che Carnevale è!

 

I fantasiosi piatti saranno assaggiati e votati da una giuria di esperti gastronomi di altissimo livello, a cominciare da Gil Grigliatti, gourmet di cultura ed esperienza internazionale. Da giovane è stato fiduciario Slow Food, nonché ispettore della guida dei ristoranti del Gambero Rosso per diversi anni. Autore del blog bilingue di cultura enogastronomica isymposium.org. Ancora Paolo Barichella, esperto di Food Design, autore del blog barichella.it; Alessia Cipolla, architetto e sommelier, autrice de lacostruzionedelgusto.it; Alessandro Salamone, reduce dalla trasmissione di La7 Chef per un giorno, autore di spaghettibites.com e ancora Angela Tomaiuolo co-fondatrice del web magazine milanodabere.it. Inoltre sarà presente Giacomo Kratter, otto volte campione italiano ed ora allenatore della Nazionale Italiana Snowboard. Quella da snowboard però non è l’unica tavola che ama: infatti Giacomo è un grande appassionato di cucina e adora farsi coccolare in ristoranti di lusso.

 

La giuria per l’occasione sarà presenziata dallo chef stellato e pluripremiato Davide Scabin, uno dei più apprezzati in Italia e all’estero, noto al grande pubblico per la partecipazione, nei panni di giudice dei cuochi in gara, a La Prova del Cuoco condotto su Rai1 da Antonella Clerici.

  

Per questo, abbiamo deciso di mettere insieme una serie di ingredienti saporiti, variegati, originali, proprio come in ogni ricetta gourmet che si rispetti:

 

- un pizzico di tradizione – la sede di InKitchen Loft, che ormai è prontissima ad accoglierci, in qualunque veste ci presentiamo

- e uno di modernità – quello che emana netto dalle protagoniste della gara, giovani donne che si muovono agili tra vite professionali sfidanti e articolati ménage familiari

- una buona dose di fantasia - fatta di maschere, costumi e colori sgargianti

- e l’ingrediente segreto – le nostre amate BlindBox, chiuse fino all’ultimo secondo anche al più ardito degli sguardi

- il tutto cosparso con una spruzzata di giocosità bambina – grazie a un buon numero di piccoli “scavezzacollo” che avranno il loro tavolo, i loro ingredienti, i loro cibi, e soprattutto una chef d’eccezione - Stefania Corrado, la “Multitasking Chef” che più che presentazioni merita i nostri più sentiti complimenti ;-) – a guidarli alla scoperta del buon cibo, del gusto e del mangiare bene… sapendolo preparare.

 

Già, perché, in fondo, soprattutto in un’era estremamente tecnologica come la nostra e come quella di quell’immediato futuro in cui saranno loro i protagonisti del mondo – far mettere “le mani in pasta” ai nostri bimbi lo consideriamo un onore, oltre che un piccolo grande contributo all’educazione dei “buoni mangiatori” di domani…

 

Amanti della cucina, appassionate del gusto, attente all’armonia dei sapori e alla cura per la buona e la bella tavola

 

Estimatrici di ricette snelle - per velocità, capacità, leggerezza - esperte nella valorizzazione degli ingredienti di stagione e nella rivisitazione moderna di piatti tradizionali, si sfideranno, si concentreranno su pentole e fornelli dimenticando tutto il resto, per dare il meglio di sé.

In 1969 and 1970, Heyerdahl built two boats from papyrus and attempted to cross the Atlantic Ocean from Morocco in Africa. Based on drawings and models from ancient Egypt, the first boat, named Ra (after the Egyptian Sun god), was constructed by boat builders from Lake Chad using papyrus reed obtained from Lake Tana in Ethiopia and launched into the Atlantic Ocean from the coast of Morocco. The Ra crew included Thor Heyerdahl (Norway), Norman Baker (USA), Carlo Mauri (Italy), Yuri Senkevich (USSR), Santiago Genoves (Mexico), Georges Sourial (Egypt), Abdullah Djibrine (Chad). After a number of weeks, Ra took on water after its crew made modifications to the vessel that caused it to sag and break apart. The ship was abandoned and the following year, another similar vessel, Ra II, was built of totora by Demetrio, Juan and Jose Limachi from Lake Titicaca in Bolivia and likewise set sail across the Atlantic from Morocco, this time with great success. The crew was mostly the same, only Djibrine had been replaced by Japanese Kei Ohara and Madani Ait Ouhanni (from Morocco). The boat reached Barbados, thus demonstrating that mariners could have dealt with trans-Atlantic voyages by sailing with the Canary Current.

The Chiado Museum is an art museum located in Lisbon, in the Chiado neighbourhood. It was created in 1911 and re-inaugurated, in new installations, in 1994.

 

The museum covers the period between 1850 and 1950, with works by the foremost Portuguese artists of the period, as well as some foreigners. It holds the best collection of Portuguese painting and sculpture from the Romanticism, Naturalism and Modern periods.

- Toshiko Oiwa : Elle est chorégraphe, interprète, enseignante, et masseuse

thérapeute. Elle a travaillé en Europe, en Amérique du Sud, en Asie, et en Afrique.

Née au Japon, elle a fait ses études de danse contemporaine à la Juilliard School de New York. Elle a été interprète de « THARP! » (Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company), et a dansé avec le Ballet Preljocaj de 1996 jusqu’en 2006.

• Le Spectacle

« 12 »

« 12 » est un jeu de méditation avec le corps, divisé en 12 parties. C’est une performance urbaine nomade, que Toshiko Oiwa fait voyager en la faisant évoluer au gré des climats urbains dans lesquels elle est représentée ; après San Paolo, Tokyo et Aix-en-Provence, ce sera une première à Paris.

- Charles Essombe : Il entreprend une formation professionnelle en danse contemporaine avec la compagnie Coline en 2002-

2004. Il y traverse le répertoire d’Hervé Robbe, de Michel Kelemenis, de Merce Cunningham, de Dominique Bagouet, tout en interprétant également des créations. Il intègre en 2004 la compagnie Jean-Claude Gallotta, puis danse avec les compagnies « Aurélia », « Les gens d’Uterpan X-Event » et « Enfin le Jour ». Il se forme à la danse butô auprès de Richard Cayre, et

poursuit son cheminement artistique en collaborant avec Abou Lagraa, Jocelyne Danchick et Yann Lheureux.

- Emma Sylvain : Après avoir été formée à l’Institut de Formation Professionnelle Rick Odums, Emma Sylvain intègre les

Ballets Jazz Rick Odums. La rencontre de Cathy Grouet et de Jean-Claude Ramseyer lui permet d’aborder de nouvelles interprétations scéniques. Parallèlement à l’enseignement de la danse jazz, elle s’essaie à la chorégraphie.
