Week 4 beginning July 15, 2013 and ending July 19, 2013.
The fourth week of camp was a none stop party!!!! It was great to have the families from groups 1, 2, 3, 10, 30, 31, JV, and VC at camp for visiting days! We always enjoy having everyone at camp! On Wednesday, July 17 the CITs went tubing and to New Hope! Also, groups 27, 28, 29, and Senior Girls had their Twilight parties! That wraps up our 4th week of camp for the 2013 season! On Friday, July 19 the entire camp participated in "Water World", WGDC infamous day of fun in the pool! What do we have in store for week 5? Stay tuned to find out!

Amazing view of Mnt. Edith during sunrise in Jasper National Park. It is 20 min driving from Jasper town and another 15 min hike. The summit is inside the cloud and it looks like that most of time in the morning. Angel glacier on the right side is much larger live than it looks in the picture with huge wing span. Ice wall retrieves at an increasing speed every year. The ice cave at the right side is what the ice wall stood last year.

The Church of Saint Mary Magdalene (église Sainte-Marie-Madeleine, or less formally, La Madeleine), is a Catholic parish church on Place de la Madeleine in the eighth arrondissement of Paris. It was planned by Louis XV as the focal point of the new Rue Royale, leading to the new Place Louis XV, the present day Place de la Concorde. It was dedicated in 1764 by Louis XV, but work was halted due to the French Revolution. Napoleon Bonaparte had it redesigned in the neoclassical style to become a monument to the glory of his armies. After his downfall in 1814, construction as a church resumed, but it was not completed until 1842. The building is surrounded on all four sides by Corinthian columns. The interior is noted for its frescoes on the domed ceiling, and monumental sculptures by François Rude, Carlo Marochetti and other prominent 19th-century French artists. The exterior and interior of the church are undergoing a major project of cleaning and restoration, which began in 2020 and is scheduled for completion in 2024. As of this writing, it is continuing with many months of work remaining.

1. If you could go back to any time in your life, what would you photograph?
My grandmother's house deep in the Appalachian mountains of Virginia. It was built by my grandfather in a holler. There are a couple of photos, but I would love to have taken detailed shots.
2. What kind of picture do you find the least interesting?
Corporate headshots.
3. Which picture took you the most courage to take (or publish)?
The first time I did candid street photography.
4. What do you admire most in other people’s photography?
Intention. My favorite photos are those that somehow express some kind of meaning or experience the photographer wanted to communicate. It doesn't have to be high-minded or socially "important" (those often produce eye-rolling in me). It can be simple, silly, or even mundane. But when a photo somehow evokes that sense of intention, it elevates it for me.
5. If you could follow someone around for a day, who would that be?

6. Which shot would you never post on Flickr?
Any photo of my wife she did not give explicit permission to share publicly.
7. What is unphotographable?

My brother and I had a design studio in the past, and I did all of the Celtics promotional work for several years through our client SportsChannel of New England. Paul Freehauf (Eagle Rock Entertainment) was the Creative Director there and we did all the design and production. I also designed the Boston Celtics' Sixth Player trophy that was sponsored through Texaco. It was retired after Reggie Lewis was awarded it. There is more info in the first comment too if you like. I also did many of the commercials for MVP sports at the time. The Johnny Most announcement in that Top 10 qwikLoadr link was used on one in particular. The Bird's Back poster in the first comment was created when Larry Bird came back early from injury, and given out at the game. The World Championship poster from 1986 was also given out at the first Boston Garden game of the 1986-1987 season. SportsChannel had no budget for the poster, so the folks who worked on it received credit on the poster, as well as 150 limited prints. The plates were destroyed once the printing was complete. Mark Burton of Boston, Massachusetts was the official printer, and that is their logo bottom left on the poster.

Have been spending some early mornings with the two beans. Kaileigh is hitting the exercise thing with a vengeance, to lose the baby weight. Noah is still unpredictable, but beginning to have some very good days, and smiles, mixed in with the periods of fussiness and colic. Lileigh Grace, is of course at the age that when momma is busy, she invents things to get into for attention....like maybe opening the backdoor and trying to go outside in her pajamas with her little car.....or finding something she should not be playing with, like daddy’s paperwork or a tool he has left behind....or taking the portable phone and running off with it! i am basically there as the Avia Police....making sure law and order are obeyed! She is particularly funny when she chooses to do the exercise video along with her momma tho....it is TOO cute. She encourages her momma, yelling “GO MOMMA GO, GO GO!!”, while slapping her on the butt!!
Sometimes, knowing she will be entertained for quite sometime, i give her my Iphone, and let her scroll through the picture file. She particularly adores watching the “vid dee does” of herself! They absolutely crack her up....especially the ones of her with “Beef”, as she calls Faith the Wonderdog! She will take a bite of waffle or her cheesyegg, and then scroll to the next one that interests her....and we discuss what she is doing on each one. it is funny to see how disturbed she is by the one of her hiding in the tub, and refusing to have her diaper changed.....as she has a very pouty face to begin with and then it escalates to a very angry face as she screams NO! i think she is having trouble believing it is the same sweet bean that is laughing hysterically while playing with the water in the sink and splashing me in the other video!
I Hope you all have a wonderful Faux Friday! i was requested to go into eel herding an hour early...tell me please....why do i torture myself so!!??
PS. Doctor visit today was so-so. She is not happy that my BP is all over the map, as she put it. She is TEMPORARILY putting me on a light medication to see if they can even it out. (notice the LARGE shouting letters in temporarily!!) I am determined to get rid of it sooner than later! It was actually a lot better today than it has been, but she was concerned about the up and down numbers of the past 2 weeks. i personally think it was our blood pressure machine at home that was on the fritz...not my blood pressure...i mean if i took it 3 times in a row i had numbers that were so different each time that i had no idea what might even be real! Heart and lungs checked out fine...i still say it was a stress reaction and it will find it’s way back to normal soon....my stress level at home has been much less than the past 6 months....school is a bit iffy, but spring break week is almost here and i am just in need of a break from that and a little fun time. I have begun walking the trail nearly the full length in the afternoon or early evening and am getting geared up for the Jillian 30 day shred....by june i will be bikini ready, even if i refuse to wear one! LOL!!

Founded in 1886 by Mary F. Scranton, an American missionary of the Methodist Episcopal Church Ewha Women’s University was Korea’s first educational institute for women. The campus is spread over a large area with western style buildings housing the various academic departments at the university. Opened in 2008, the ECC (Ewha Campus Complex) is a visually stunning underground complex of shops, library, cafes, theatres, and a gym as well as lecture rooms and study areas.

On Thursday 7, the blockades from the previous day continued, with hundreds of protesters sleeping on the different roads leading to Heiligendamm. But the main action took place in Hinter Bollhagen, one of the 2 entrances to the "red zone" : thousands of people gathered on the fields in front of the fence, while police deployed their full arsenal (troops dropped by helicopters, horses, dogs, and no less than 8 water canons). A couple of isolated people managed to run to the fence and where immediately seized. The mood was however quite relaxed, with very little violence ( a few stones and bottles thrown at some point). The police eventually cleared the field with water canons, and (once and briefly) some tear gas.
Here, a rare photo of Black Block members posing for me, holding a plastic sheet against the water cannon. They usually don't want to have their photo taken, both for practical reasons (to avoid identification) and ideological ones (opposed to the mainstream media). Note that in Germany, it's forbidden for demonstrators to wear masks, scarfs, goggles, etc (preventing identification), as well as any protective gear (helmet, etc.).

An ancient site dating back to the 7th century was originally owned by the church but later acquired by the Button family in the 16th century. The name was changed to Dyffryn St. Thomas when the estate was sold to Thomas Pryce, who built the first building to be known as Dyffryn House. John Cory bought the estate in 1891 and built the present house two years later. He later commissioned Thomas Mawson to landscape the gardens to complement his magnificent house. After John Cory's death in 1910, his third son, Reginald, a keen horticulturalist and leading figure in the RHS, developed the gardens and arboretum notably through his joint sponsorship of several plant hunting expeditions. The most remarkable of the results of this is the Paper Bark Maple, Acer griseum, which was grown from seed brought back from China by Ernest Wilson.
After Reginald Cory's death in 1934, the estate went to his daughter Florence who died just two years later. It was then bought by Sir Cennydd Traherne who leased it in 1939 to Glamorgan County Council on a 999 year lease. The Grade I listed gardens are being restored in two phases with grants from the Heritage Lottery Fund. The first phase is for £3.25 million and the second for £2.9 million.

The Marmora Mine
Marmora is located between the towns of Madoc and Havelock along highway 7 in Hastings County. The name Marmora is taken from the latin word for "marble".
The area was known for its rich iron content and mining operations began as early as the 1820's to extract and smelt this mineral. Today you will find the remains of the water-powered refinery along the eastern bank of the Crowe River while the northern bank of the Crowe held the richest ore deposits.
At its prime, the area was home to as many as two dozen mines. Perhaps the most successful of the mines was that of the Marmoraton which opened in 1955. The Marmoraton was owned by Bethlehem Steel Mills of New York and exported iron ore pellets.
In 1953, before the Marmoraton could open, engineers first had to blast through 120 feet of limestone before reaching the high grade ore which was underneath. One blasted out, the open pit mine measured approximately 1700 feet by 1200 feet and reached 600 feet deep.
The mine employed some 300 men who worked to fill the 30 to 35 railway cars daily for transport south to Picton port where it was loaded into boats. The mine produced 520,000 tons of pellets anually.
When the mine closed in 1979, it had mined almost 1.3 million tons of iron ore. Over time, underground streams and rainfall have slowly filled two thirds of the mine with water. So much so that it is now officially classified as a lake.
