Yapton is known as the village that "never closes its doors" - thought to refer to the days when smugglers making their way with their contraband from the beaches of nearby Clymping found plenty of open doors in Yapton to help them escape the pursuing excise men!

The name Yapton is thought to derive from "Eppa's ton" - Eppa being one of two priests who were left in Sussex about AD681 by Bishop St Wilfrid who bought Christianity to Sussex to continue the work of converting and baptising local people.

Nowadays Yapton is a thriving rural village. Over the last 30 years it has grown rapidly but is still an interesting and self-contained community with two Conservation Areas which include a number of listed buildings. It is centred around the King George V Playing Field and this, viewed from the main road, shows up the historic village church, set against the backdrop of the South Downs with Arundel in the distance. St Mary's, Church is a charming, 13th century rustic building which has been regularly added to through the centuries. The Tower has been buttressed due to its noticeable lean. It is a thoroughly friendly building. At present the Parish is intending to build an outside toilet and store and install running water into the church for a small kitchen. They are also hoping to make space at the back of the church to provide better access for wheel chairs and push chairs and create a welcome area.

My Most Popular Images from 2012

I have never done one of these before but thought I would give it ago and reflect back on 2012. These are my most interesting images (according to Flickr) from 2012 and all of them are taken in London and mostly on the Tube, which is no surprise there :-).

I would just like to take the time to thank all of those who visit and comment on my work regularly. It really does help me alot to improve my photography and my techniques. I feel compared to previous years I am a little bit more planned in the way I do photography which I feel has vastly helped. I have also achieved more than I previously thought compared to this time last year, I have got a couple of images published in a magazine, now a Getty contributor and only recently got round to setting up my own website

For and from the benefits of the rhizom-E-xquisite

Node Mimesis: The Corpse, the cadaver... dead and alive.

Between the corpse, the dream, the emptiness and the cold... the paradox and the juxtaposition, between death and its simulacra, and even between the ghost and its shadow... right there, the blood and the soul flow.

Node Catharsis: Constructing the parts by their functions, seeing the parts as tools themselves. But, tools for what? Parts work as tools in an ensemble, in an organism. When working, they cease to be inert, they are alive –animated.

Comment: Aristotle explained the difference between animals and plants on the basis of the anima (hence the word), that which made them move. The parts of the animals however, needed to be explained in order to understand how the anima was present in life and lost in death even though the corpse with the parts was left.

From this question (both methodological and empirical), one can jump to Galen and his two blood system; from there to Harvey mechanistic view of the heart and blood; and from there to Descartes and his pneumas.

+++++++ ++++++++ ++++++++ ++++++++

Meta-methodology (aka, eXquisite forensics):

"Animals, then, are composed of homogeneous parts, and are also composed of heterogeneous parts. The former, however, exist for the sake of the latter. For the active functions and operations of the body are carried on by these; that is, by the heterogeneous parts, such as the eye, the nostril, the whole face, the fingers, the hand, and the whole arm. But inasmuch as there is a great variety in the functions and motions not only of aggregate animals but also of the individual organs, it is necessary that the substances out of which these are composed shall present a diversity of properties. For some purposes softness is advantageous, for others hardness; some parts must be capable of extension, others of flexion. Such properties, then, are distributed separately to the different homogeneous parts, one being soft another hard, one fluid another solid, one viscous another brittle; whereas each of the heterogeneous parts presents a combination of multifarious properties."

Book II of On the Parts of Animals, Aristotle

Translated by William Ogle

??¿¿¿??¿¿¿??¿¿¿??

E ora qualche dato storico:

You ever have a location that you want to keep a secret, well here is that location for me. I mean, it's not hard to find out where this is located if you have luck on your side, as it seemed with us, but still there is that inner conflict of "where do I say this beautiful waterfall is?".

I will not be doing that though, this is Mystic Falls in Ames, Colorado. Although difficult to see, once you locate the falls from the dirt road leading into Ames, it is pretty easy to bushwack into. Yes, bushwack. There is no clearly defined trail to this waterfall, in fact bring your Chacos because you will be walking up the creek during parts of the 1/8 mile walk from the "parking lot" next to someone's house. You will have to trespass, as you will be walking through someone's property. I don't think anyone was around when we walked through, but if that is an issue, I would advise to not go looking for this waterfall. Mystic Falls is a spectacular sight though, as this canyon is really narrow, and I'm estimating the height of the falls to be around 100ft. Amazing sight! Good luck!

I spend alot of time in this space. The setup uses two Ikea Jerker desks - combined. I just swing between them depending on what I'm working on. The setup was gradually built up over a year and a half. I spend time editing my pics[D40/18-55/50/55-200] / playing TF2 or working on an embedded project.

IKEA should get back the Jerker desk. Both the desks were got off Craigslist. If there is more interest, I'll label all the stuff on the electronics bench with purchase links in a separate pic.

If you need to know anything specific, please ask it in the comments, I'll answer or leave a comment on my homepage(link above).
