Shooting at Hozukyo, Kyoto. We were a big group of people with Me & My friend Diao taking pictures. We went there for the red leaves, but actually it looked like it's too late, and we only had this tree behind her as a proper background for our pictures.

Still haven't had any outdoor Tassia time since the outbreak.. so since the last 3 posts were all indoor pics, I thought I'd post another throwback of me enjoying the fresh air outdoor. 😊

I really would love to go outside for more than just groceries and a quick jog.

Hope everyone is still doing fine and staying safe!

Double exposure on film

Kodak t-Max 400 & Nikon Fm2

One of the many marvellous photography techniques provided by analog photography is the double (or triple…) exposure film, directly on camera.

I was always fascinated by the possibility of handling the negative from the moment of shooting, and this factor was the key one for me when it came the time to chose a camera; I need a fully mechanical camera that allows me to control shutter speed, aperture, and lock the film for double exposure. Doesn’t seem like i am asking to much, am I?

Nowadays is relatively easy to produce double exposure. Although i like digital photography, i always preferred to create my double exposures with my trusty old camera, get out in the streets and enjoy shooting, avoiding tedious hours of post production in front of a computer screen, often ending up with a result that is closer to graphic design than photography.

The magic of double exposure is limitless. I love how it’s possible to mix and mash spaces that are completely different from each other, make them clash inside a new world that takes life inside a negative. I call it pre-darkroom; a manipulation of reality that we cannot affect in any way. Only at the time of processing the film we will how the planes stack with each other. Most times it is actually almost impossible to discern how the images complement each other; it might be simple luck, or it might very well be that these 2 worlds really take a life of their own on the silver of the film, and they become something else. In the end, what we try to do is to clumsily control the light.

Hi! Missed me? If not.. just lie! :-P

As you may or may not have known, I spent most of the month of March in the French and Austrian Alps, sliding down slippery snowy slopes. And it was awesome!

This is me in my "I want it to be summer so badly"-mode... wearing a definitely too-short tartan mini-skirt and my 5 inch stiletto peep-toes by Carlos Santana (yep.. the guitar guy).

Anyway, hope you like these shots from before my winter holiday. I hope to post stuff more regularly now, just like last year. :)

Just got back home after ten days in Chicago, where I stayed in a Holiday Inn right across the Chicago River from this amazing-looking building.

Chicago has an absolutely gorgeous downtown area, probably one of the most beautiful I've ever seen. Old buildings and new rise side by side, and the river runs through them all. There are cool 1930s-style steel lift bridges every block and, to top off the eye candy, there's even an elevated train. They call this part of town The Loop, I'm not sure why. What I *am* sure of is that I'd love to go back there and take photographs for about two or three weeks someday. It's a photographer's dream.

I started a 365 project today! This is the first photo. I'm sure this 365 project is going to be both the best experience of my photographic life, and probably also the most hell. A photo a day is quite a commitment!

I was walking by a street at the Habana Vieja ( Old Habana) , together with my friend - and photographer .Peopleinpixels, a bit far away from the touristic quarters. You could see, one after the other, destroyed buildings, just like a post-war city .. Through an enormous opened door, I saw the stair. The shoe maker, on the extreme right of the picture, was working. Asked permission ( which got the answer "looking is free") and got into the basement of the house. An enormous door to the street provided all the natural light that could be needed. A special moment. A special stair...

Sta a te partecipare.

Some things are lost in the leaving.

Some remain.

Some seeds planted in brine still grow...

Steveston Beacon - www.grantmurrayphotography.com/

View it LARGE here: tinyurl.com/confpsx

This is a 30 second exposure of a beacon in Steveston, which is a great little fishing village in Richmond, British Columbia.

I used a 10 and a 3 stop ND filter, and stacked a 3 stop soft grad ND filter, to get the right level of contrast in the clouds and water.

Steveston is a really great little place to visit, with awesome fish and chips, if you stay away from the touristy spots :-)

I used a 10 stop and 3 stop ND filter and a 3 stop hard grad ND filter, to get the right level of contrast and detail in the clouds, reflections and water.

The techie stuff:

Sony A850 D-SLR

Zeiss 24-70mm Lens

ISO: 160

Aperture: f/9

Exposure: 30 seconds

Focal Length: 24mm

Filters: Hitech Pro 10 stop ND filter, Lee 3 stop hard ND filter and a Lee 3 stop soft grad ND filter

Processing: Photoshop CS6 and Google Silver Efex Pro 2.

And to answer that question unequivocally: it depends! :-P

Okay okay, the girly over-the-top part of me would say: NO, there is never too much pink!

I myself don't have much stuff in pink, but I'm always so envious of girls who can pull off the cute candy pink look without it looking so sweet that your teeth will spontaneously start to rot.

The realistic take-a-good-look-in-the-mirror who-do-you-think-you-are part of me would say: YES, there is such a thing as too much and you (meaning me) of all people should take care not to overdo it!

Anyway, internal debates aside, I thought I'd solve the issue by wearing a cute summer cocktail dress that's white with a cool pink pattern. What do you think? Faux-pas avoided? :-P

Of course, I gotta have high heels.. and the only pink heels I had in my collection were these peep-toe stilettos by Bershka. I got them in a sale for 10 euros a couple of months ago, just waiting for a summer evening and a dress like this. :)

So yeah, technically.. the weather has improved over here in the Netherlands.. but it's still freakin' cold! :-P

You all know I love bare legs, but that's just not possible yet. Fortunately, there is a great solution: tights and boots.. especially over-the-knee boots!

The theme of this outfit is tartan.. and I especially love my cute little bag. It's a make-up bag, but I decided to use it as normal bag. I wonder if that was why I was getting strange looks. ;-)

Sorry to my contacts, haven't been really active on Flickr lately. So I will try to comment a lot as possible and view your streams. My archive is stacking up so I can't wait to post a couple. but time is a bitch...

This picture of a Kingfisher was taken two weeks ago from a hide. It was really worth waiting for, just an awesome sight seeing them fishing just a couple of meters away. We've witnessed him catching a couple of really small fish but the catch of the day was this three-spined stickleback.

By the way: never new that these fish are more related to seahorses and pipefish then to the European perch.

A few days ago I opened a webshop. Still working on it but there are a few images already available on poster, framed, Xpozer, canvas and alu.

Q: My wife and I love good soup, and one of our favorites is the Avocado and Chicken Soup at El Matador restaurant in Tucker. Is it possible to get the recipe?

- Jim Chambers, Tucker

A: Only in America! Where else can a Jordanian immigrant come to a country, work on an assembly line in an electronics plant, become good friends with immigrants from Mexico, develop a fondness for Mexican culture, music and food and then open a restaurant specializing in Mexican, with a touch of Middle Eastern cuisine? That is the story of Ismail Sirdah, who came here 17 years ago from Jordan, is now an American citizen and owner of El Matador, a casual Tex-Mex restaurant that boasts everyday fresh ingredients.

Following on from yesterday's photo of soldiers in the Reading Room at the Elise Sandes Soldiers Home at the Curragh Camp in Kildare, this photo is of the Dining Room.

Thanks to macabee2012 for the following:

"This is the dining room of Miss Sandes Soldiers Home in the Curragh - one of over thirty such Homes attached to army locations all over Ireland, Founded by Elise Sandes of Tralee, Co Kerry, this network of Soldiers Homes was an evangelical missionary movement designed mainly to keep young soldiers out of the pubs and provide recreational facilities - as well as a bit of religion. The first Home was in Cork and later ones were in Queesntown (Cobh), Belfast, Parkgates Dublin, Ballykinler, Derry, among other towns; there were eight Homes in India in places such as Rawal Pindi, Quetta and Lucknow.

See History Ireland, vol. 13, issue 4, July/August 2005..."

This photo incidentally provides invaluable information about what the soldiers were eating at the time for their supper, and how much they were paying for their grub. A blackboard behind the counter lists dishes and prices. We're assuming the cost was in pennies rather than shillings. Here they are (those that were possible to read):

Eggs & Bacon 3

Two Eggs 4/5?

Bacon & Tomatoes 4

Bacon & Onions 3

Bacon & Chips 3

Rissoles & Chips 3

Rissoles & Onions 3

Desserts

Apple Tart & Custard 2

Treacle & Custard or Rice 1

Blancmange & Jelly 2

Rice Pudding 1

Gorgeous account in from scooter2017 of this Dining Room in the 1960s:

"You could add another 50 years to this 1916 photo and little had changed. The long benches and tables were still the same. They did add a jukebox in the early 60s. It was in front of the pillar where that first soldier is standing. A record could be played for 3d.

First of all, I hope everyone had a great Christmas weekend! Mine was spent at my parents' place with lots of good food, general cosiness and lots of Christmas movies including classics like Home Alone (1 and 2), The Santa Clause (1, 2 and 3), Die Hard, A Muppets' Christmas Carol. :-D

I had two sponsored occasions already.. and this 3rd one is courtesy of Shein. I chose 3 cute dresses, but uhm.. they're more suited for hot summers!

It's fall now and summer seems like a distant memory. Though I have been busy working, I did get to enjoy the warm and sunny days.. and I did get to wear my pretty dresses and sexy shoes! And better yet.. my friends were willing to photograph and film during those days! ♥

For this day, I wore this blue dress. And since it was a warm and sunny day, I actually took the effort of painting my nails, both fingers and toes. I have lots of other nailpolish colours so I should try them all before it gets too cold.

Was very lucky when I went down to the harbor area in Bergen the night of 14th october ... the sky started to light up with the Aurora Borealis dancing ... ahh ... was a magical night - once in a lifetime experience of being at the right spot at just the right time - It doesn't happen very often that we can see northern lights this far south - and in Bergen without skies to cover it up (It's on the western part of southern Norway who gets a lot of rain). "Conservation is a state of harmony between men and land." Aldo Leopold.

Dalyan, on the Turkey's Aegean Coast, is a fantastic place to relax in a peaceful setting surrounded by nature. Very close to this town we can find Iztuzu, one of the most beautiful beaches in the Mediterranean. It can be reached by one of the numerous boats that offer tours along the Dalyan River until reaching the beach, or through a road that allows access only from its southern side.

Iztuzu Beach is also known as Turtle Beach, since this coastal strip is home to one of the most important breeding sites for sea turtles in the Mediterranean. In 1988, the beach was named a Protected Area by the Turkish government, and access is prohibited from dusk to dawn to protect the laying of eggs and the birth of small turtles. However, this area could have been very different today without the conservation efforts of June Haimoff and many other environmentalists who saved it in the 1980s. Their work to raise awareness and the launch of an international campaign allowed to stop the construction of a huge German resort in this ecological paradise. Both the curious turtles, which can often be seen near the beach, and the locals and visitors who come here, can still enjoy this natural wonder thanks to all those people who decided to protect this beautiful natural environment.

---------------------------------------------------------------

Some folks wanted to see this bridge up close under this light and some folks wanted to see this bridge at dark. This is as dark as I am comfortable with because there are a couple of pubs behind me (and one in front of me off camera) with the lager louts paying too much interest in my work.

Apologies to other folks if this bridge shows up too much in my stream; I work within 10 minutes walking distance of it and I live within 30 minutes walking distance so it's quite tempting to try and shoot it under different conditions.

This is a 52 second exposure; I much prefer a later one I took with a longer exposure but this one has the blur of a red bus which makes it slightly more interesting and the other did not.
