Giovanni Almonte is a composer and vocalist born in New York City, the son of a Dominican family. His experience as the front man for the band brokenMadison has garnered him a reputation as a powerful performer with a sincere and passionate stage presence. Over the course of several years brokenMadison toured throughout the east coast, Europe and Egypt before disbanding in 2005 while recording their first album.
Giovanni Almonte continues on his musical career as a solo artist embracing his Latin heritage and the influence of New York City's diverse culture. He is recognized for blending elements of Salsa, Rock, Afro-Cuba, Jazz and Electronica. His unique yet diverse style and inspired writing has allowed him to perform and record with a wide range of musicians including hip-hop producer King Solomon, who featured Giovanni on the acclaimed 2009 release, "The Big Picture". Giovanni Almonte was also featured on another 2009 release by the Latin Jazz group The Curtis Brothers. Their first single, "Thoughts Not My Own" included original lyrics and vocals by Giovanni.
Now with experience and an established working relationship with some of New York City's most renowned young musicians, Giovanni Almonte has finished recording his debut solo work that combines powerful lyrics, beautiful melody, raw vocal performances and virtuosity second to none.
The album "High vs. Low" is scheduled for release in June 2010 and includes 12 original compositions written, arranged and produced by Giovanni Almonte and Julie "Jewls" Acosta. The album is bi-lingual English and Spanish and is an eclectic and sophisticated production with global appeal.

This photograph was taken on 9 September 2012 by Barry Howard at the annual memorial service at the Jim Comerford Miners Memorial Wall in Aberdare. The service was attended by many dignitaries and families of miners killed in the industry.
This photograph is from the collection of Barry Howard, who was an electrician at local coal mines such as Hebburn No. 2 and Northern (Rhondda) Colliery, and at Saxonvale Colliery, further up the Hunter Valley. Mr Howard has very kindly permitted us to to publish these photographs on this website for the benefit of researchers and for those who served in the mines and their families.

“Facciamo Rovigo Insieme con Federico FRIgato sindaco”, è questo lo spirito con cui è stato organizzato il “FRI party”, la festa che la coalizione che sostiene il candidato sindaco Federico Frigato alle prossime elezioni amministrative ha donato alla città.
Ospite d’onore dell’evento è stato l’onorevole del Partito Democratico Paolo Gentiloni, che ha voluto elogiare Federico Frigato “per l’ottima campagna elettorale che sta portando avanti, con particolare attenzione al territorio e ai giovani”. “E’ bene - ha ribadito l’ex ministro - guardare avanti, così si da fiducia alla propria città”.
Il responsabile della comunicazione per il Partito Democratico ha poi auspicato che “Rovigo possa fare un regalo a tutto il Paese. Da qui può partire un messaggio forte verso la politica nazionale invitandola a ritrovare il rapporto con la gente e facendo capire a tutti che l’Italia non ne può più. Rovigo, può spronarci a far sì che finisca la permanenza a Palazzo Chigi di Berlusconi”.
Infine l’onorevole Gentiloni ha invocato “un rinnovamento della politica, così come ha fatto Rovigo e che qui è incarnato da Federico Frigato”.
“E’ il nostro modo per salutare la città e ribadire che per noi l’esperienza della campagna elettorale è stata entusiasmante - ha sottolineato il candidato sindaco Federico Frigato riferendosi al momento di festa - Con il FRI party abbiamo anche voluto dare un segnale forte riguardo alla nostra volontà di rianimare il centro storico di Rovigo, con varie iniziative rivolte a tutti, e, quindi, anche ai giovani. Noi il Corso del Popolo non lo riempiremo di automobili, ma di manifestazioni e di contenuti”.
“Rovigo si ama e vuole restare libera” è lo slogan del party che a partire dalle 19 ha animato il centro cittadino. Partenza da Corso del Popolo, di fronte alla sala Alberto Brigo (Peschieria Nuova) con la parata del gruppo di percussionisti Batuque Branko tra le vie e le piazze di Rovigo. E, mentre i tamburi suonano, durante il percorso è stato offerto l’aperitivo a tutti i partecipanti, grazie al coinvolgimento dei bar del centro.
La parata musicale, tra un brindisi e l’altro, è arrivata poi in piazza Garibaldi, dove Alan DJ & Dielle Voice hanno fatto ballare tutti fino a tarda serata.
Entusiasti i centinaia di partecipanti che hanno festeggiato ballando fino allo sfinimento, ma che hanno anche avuto modo di riflettere sul futuro di Rovigo, che si deciderà alle prossime elezioni amministrative. Federico Frigato, con questa festa, ha anche voluto dimostrare come Rovigo sia una città viva e vitale, e che “spesso sono più importanti le idee rispetto alle risorse economiche per organizzare importanti e riusciti eventi in città”.
Nel corso di questo grande momento di convivialità, di socialità e di festa hanno comunque trovato spazio anche i temi principali per la città, come la viabilità, il centro, lo sviluppo, il sociale, “con 100 passi avanti per Rovigo da percorrere per vivere in una città che si ama davvero”.

La ministra de Salud recomendó a las mujeres en etapa reproductiva a tratar de no quedar embarazadas mientras el virus del Zika circule en el país.La recomendación de Altagracia Guzmán Marcelino se produjo tras reunirse con las autoridades del Colegio Médico Dominicano (CMD), con quienes acordó trabajar unidos para enfrentar la enfermedad.
Dijo que analizan las recomendaciones de un médico brasileño, quien considera que “las mujeres en etapas reproductivas tienen que tratar de no embarazarse mientras el zika esté circulando en la región”.
“Ahora, en estos momentos no tenemos casos de zika, pero debido a que se han reportado casos en varios países de la región como, Venezuela, Brasil, Colombia y Puerto Rico y que somos un país con condiciones idóneas para estas enfermedades infectocontagiosas, me atrevo a acoger las recomendaciones de un médico brasileño para las mujeres embarazadas y además de pedirles la eliminación de criaderos, les insto a usar mosquiteros y repelentes para evitar picaduras”, expresó.
Reiteró que específicamente las mujeres embarazadas deben asumir medidas estrictas porque son las más vulnerables.
Al respecto, solicitó al CMD, a la Sociedad Dominicana de Infectología, Ginecología y Obstetricia y otras sociedades médicas, a discutir el tema con profundidad, al tiempo que anunció varias capacitaciones que incluyen una conferencia con un experto de la OPS, para el próximo jueves.
Sostuvo que todavía no se ha detectado ningún caso, pero que el país está frente a una gran amenaza.

Knobeloch Woods contains dry-mesic upland and wet floodplain forest communities representative of the Effingham Plain Section of the Southeastern Till Plain Natural Division. The upland forest supports white oak and hickories. The floodplain forest lies in the floodplain of a tributary to Hazel Creek. Floodplain trees extend up into the shallow ravines where they overlap the upland species. The location of this preserve provides educational opportunities to those who might otherwise never experience a natural area. Management of the area is primarily concerned with the control of exotic species.

Get to know this 0.7-mile loop trail near Belleville, Illinois. Generally considered an easy route, it takes an average of 18 min to complete. This trail is great for birding, hiking, and running, and it's unlikely you'll encounter many other people while exploring. The best times to visit this trail are April through October. Dogs are welcome, but must be on a leash.
