Sadly this wasn't the 'hero' hoverboard prop. This was one of many used for long shots that didn't have to be detailed.
I'd heard most 'non-hero' movie props look terrible in real life, but this was shocking. the graphics look like they were printed with a dot-matrix printer.
Considering this was an 80's movie...it probably was.
