"So did any of you see that hoverboard video with Tony Hawk?"

MM: "Yes. It's all over the internet. I saw it on Youtube a couple days ago. Intriguing how far human technology is going by the day."

S: "You watch Youtube videos?"

MM: "Of course. It's a great way to pass the time, so long as you avoid the spirit-breaking comments people leave below. It's also....interesting what you can come across."

"Ain't that the truth...."

J: "...y'know, we made a hoverboard a while ago before that video."

MM: "Ha, is that so? Can I see?"

J: "Sure! Grab that crate lid over there, Steph."

S: "What? Wh-- oh. Hehehe, sweet..."

J: "Alright, check this out...."

MM: "...that's quite funny, Jackie, but I also think this is what they call "cheating."

S: "It's still fun. This was seriously the first thing we did when we brought Jackie home from STAR labs. Pretty much the first time we met..."

"Oh god, it was most hilarious thing I've ever seen. Steph flying around the nest's storeroom on a piece of cardboard. Seriously pee'd myself laughing...."

MM: "Hahaha, I can only imagine. It's nice that you two got along so quickly."

B: "Enough fooling around! We've got work to do."

"What's up?"

B: "An airliner, falling out of the sky, It's gonna crash-land somewhere west outside the city. We've got to be there for relief effort and damage control."

S: "Oh my god...."

MM: "We best hurry, then."

J: "....do you know where it's gonna crash?"

B: "Why?"

J: "Because if I can be right where it's gonna crash, there won't be any damage control. I can stop it. J'onn can help me."

B: "You're gonna try and stop the plane as it crashes?"

J: "If I get in front of it I can grab hold of it, slow it down, and gently put it down and all the people on board will be safe."

B: "You're telling me you're willing to stand in front of a crashing airliner going hundreds of miles and hour, probably on fire? Do you know how far you'd have to reach so the slow down can be gradual enough that you don't tear the plane apart?"

J: "I can do it."

MM: "I wouldn't advise it. I can fly up to the plane and guide it down myself. I'll get under it and grab hold so--"

J: "All that pressure in one spot could damage the plane even more and we could lose them all. We gotta get the entire thing."

MM: "Are you sure you can do this?"

J: "I have to, for those people on the plane. How much time do we have?"

B: "...the plane is roughly 200 miles away from Gotham. They won't be able to reach the airport, but they'll be close enough that we can arrive to catch them crashing."

J: "Get them to land in an exact location and bring me there."

S: "I can't believe this...."

"Brave little guy...."

He didn't actually wear the weirdly coloured cap whilst on the hoverboard in the movie, but I couldn't resist adding it.

A familiar neon glow on the Strand signals that Back to the Future: The Musical is firmly parked in the West End. The Adelphi Theatre, with its Art Deco façade and long showbiz lineage, proves once again that time travel and timeless venues go hand in hand. Built for spectacle and reconfigured for modern musical magic, this historic house has journeyed through melodrama, comedy, revues—and now DeLoreans.

Historical / Architectural Background:

The Adelphi Theatre, located at 409–412 Strand, is a cornerstone of West End entertainment. The current building, the fourth to bear the name on this site, opened in 1930 and was designed in the Art Deco style by Ernest Schaufelberg—the same architect as the Fortune Theatre in Russell Street, near Covent Garden. It replaced an earlier incarnation from 1887, which had hosted operettas and farces.

The venue seats around 1,500 patrons and has evolved with the times—first staging melodramas and Edwardian musical comedies, and later becoming a go-to house for commercial musicals. Notably, the Adelphi was where Me and My Girl introduced the Lambeth Walk to the world and where Chicago enjoyed a long revival run. Since 1993, the theatre has been co-owned by Andrew Lloyd Webber’s LW Theatres and Nederlander Theatres.

The theatre’s ornate Art Deco façade remains a standout on the busy Strand, and its modern technical refurbishments have kept it at the cutting edge—allowing hoverboards and flux capacitors to coexist with proscenium arches and royal boxes.
