A Heritage Home is put in place at Rougehaven Way on February 26, 1997 to anchor a town home development. The home was moved from a nearby site on Markham Road to make way for Highway 407 construction (Info from City of Markham Development Services Commission).

I shot this old log home through the hole in a steel beam that was supporting another old home. A moving company is in town uprooting these old historic houses that sat on the property that used to belong to General Motors. I have no clue were they might be taking them. The red barn that I shot with the plum tree will also be uprooted and relocated soon. I hope they go somewhere better than Dayton Ohio.

How it looks today:
I’m going to do a bit of research and add more detail if I can. Note: Passed this way on May 3rd. The cabin has only been moved about 50 or so feet! I evidently didn’t know that!
By about 4:00PM the movers had pulled the house away from the basement walls. The entire rig is ready to go! I met the owner and asked him about a video crew I had noticed on the site today and on previous occasions. He said the move will be featured in an upcoming program on HGTV. They're moving the house about twenty miles south of its original location, along two lane highways, with the assistance of the State Police, and the power company crews that will have to move power lines so the house may travel on.

The old Soo Line Weyerhaeuser depot is still up on wheels but a new poured basement and foundation has been prepared for it. It's too bad it's been turned 180 degrees with the bay now facing away from the tracks but any saved depot is a good one. It's been a busy few years for this small town with a new sand plant developing on the east edge of town and stacks of new rail ready to be installed for the supporting yard and plant tracks. Moving done by Wolfe Housemovers from Bernville, Berks County, PA. I'm happy to see that they are moving it and not tearing it down!! We've lost so many old historic buildings in the Lehigh Valley already!!
Also see my Album "Moving Uhler's Hotel" to see another historic building gently moved by Wolfe Housemovers.
I'll see what I can find out about this farmhouse.
From the age of five years until I was 13 in 1950, this was home with my parents and five siblings. The street address then was 2940 Doncaster Drive but somewhere along the way it was changed to 2848. I do not know where it is being moved to but I may be able to find out.
N.B. Mystery Solved: The house is being raised up because the basement (as when we lived there) is only six feet high. Building code today is eight foot ceilings. Perhaps they want to put in livable suites.

These buildings were being relocated as part of an ongoing an urban renewal effort in the 1970's. Both buildings now sit on the 1700 block of Fillmore Street.

A Victorian home I posted on Flicker earlier this year is being moved to a new location. The first step in the process is shown here. The porch has been removed and the ground in front of the house now forms a ramp so it can be hauled out later.

More information to follow... I hope. On May 3rd I discovered that the cabin is still on this property and was only moved 50 or so and is in a permanent local with a new stone chimney and more. Great!
