Considered as the last legacy from the kings of Portugal, the Bussaco Palace hotel is a unique architectural, botanical and landscape complex in Europe. It is categorized, as one of the most beautiful and historic hotels in the world.
The gardens and surrounding park, the Convent of Santa Cruz do Bussaco, the “Monacal Desert”, the “Sacromonte” symbolizing Jerusalem and the passion of Christ, with its steps of the Sacred Way, the High Cross, the numerous hermitages and chapels, constitute the largest Architectural complex built by the Order of the “Discalced Carmelites”. The “Fetos Valley” and its lakes, the “Fonte Fria” with the artificial cascade, of strong Italian influence by the hand of the queen Maria Pia, and the romantic viewpoints, are other attractions. A fantastic place to visit..
I had a good overnight stay here. The room was a little small but had everything one would need. Plus, it's been completely renovated recently.
Zoar is a village in Tuscarawas County, Ohio, that was founded by German religious separatists in 1817, and survived as a communal settlement for more than 80 years. Many of the original buildings still exist, and the village today serves both as a very walkable outdoor museum of sorts, as well as a place where people live.
Shown here is the Zoar Hotel, which was completed in 1835. President William McKinley is said to have had a favorite room at the hotel, where he enjoyed the German cuisine.
Lillesand Hotel Norge is a cultural monument in Lillesand. Originally built as a tannery by the Scot Robert Major in 1838, then as several independent buildings which were later built together. These contained a factory, a bark mill for the tanning process, a warehouse, an office and a store.
Around 1870, hotel operations began. Twenty years later, the houses were built together and decorated in a contemporary Swiss style with a large veranda with carvings in neo-Gothic style. It has since been removed, but has been partially restored in 1994.
The author Knut Hamsun often stayed at Hotel Norge in the 1930s, always in the same room.
Hotel Norge was restored in 1994 and is constantly being run away as a hotel. In addition to hotel and restaurant activities, in recent years the focus has been on cultural events such as concerts, summer shows and quizzes.
Commercial Hotel, Ipswich, Queensland. Built C. 1916-17. Not sure when it closed as a pub but the building is now condemned.
