Please, please, please

Come on and sing to me

To me, me ...

I'm in NY.

song of the day: in my place, by coldplay

We arrived home on Sunday night to rain that quickly changed to snow. La Mer was shocked to see the snow on Monday morning, since we left a very sunny Santa Fe on Sunday! The snow didn't stick around too long on Monday!

Out of order shot...but this is for my personal ADAD.

i was a comfort seeking missile today.

i go through periods like that.

wanting to surround myself in all things cozy and comforting and calm when life gets a little nuts.

(especially on a day like this when spring is still refusing to show it's pretty face.)

the day as a whole didn't quite work out that way, a bit hectic actually.

but it definitely started off well...

and yes, this is still a SP ... see note! ;)

song of the day: home again, by carole king

ps - i'll catch up on your streams monday.

I saw this circle rainbow from the air as we were coming into Calgary airport from Ottawa. I've not seen that before.

I had a very low key visit and visited mostly family and have LOTS of hugs to hold me over for a bit!

…… Well after a fabulous 2 weeks in Cumbria its back to Shropshire for my #288 shot of the day, taken in Apple RAW and edited in Lightroom. I haven’t looked through the holiday pictures as yet - all those posted for my 365 project whilst we were away had minimal editing, all done on my phone and without the benefit of Lightroom tools and of course a large screen for close scrutiny!! Today's offering was a quick grab shot in bright sunshine as we were trying to unpack the car. Alan:-)

When I got up this morning I noticed Sole had not eaten his dinner from last night. Nor had he had any water.

Then I remembered he hadn't walked all over me in the night either and now he was nowhere to be seen. Sole only has a few sleeping places in the house and he wasn't in any of them.

He's always been an indoor cat with only a couple of escapes over the years but it was looking more and more like he must have gotten out somehow.

When I opened the front door, trying to quell my anxiety, there he was curled up in a plant box! Long story short ... he must have snuck past me at 8:00 PM and spent a cold night outside! 12 hours!

At least he knew which cottage was his and he's home safe again!

Jeudi 26 Mars 2020 – Y’a pas de raison, il est rentré à la maison alors il devra y rester.

Ok Maggie we have to get a picture of these little guys cause no one will believe all we've seen in Roswell NM!!!!

How Great Is Our God lyrics

by the amazing Chris Tomlin

The splendor of a King, clothed in majesty

Let all the earth rejoice

All the earth rejoice

He wraps himself in Light, and darkness tries to hide

And trembles at His voice

Trembles at His voice

How great is our God, sing with me

How great is our God, and all will see

How great, how great is our God

Age to age He stands

And time is in His hands

Beginning and the end

Beginning and the end

The Godhead Three in One

Father Spirit Son

The Lion and the Lamb

The Lion and the Lamb

How great is our God, sing with me

How great is our God, and all will see

How great, how great is our God

Name above all names

Worthy of our praise

My heart will sing

How great is our God

How great is our God, sing with me

How great is our God, and all will see

How great, how great is our God

There is the sound of the waves breaking against the shore.

Is it just my idea or do I hear the song of the Sirens?

They are calling for me. 😉🌊❤️

The deepest longing of the heart is to love and be open.

I'm home again.

to while away a few quiet moments with Mr Hook :)

I am having the ultimate boring, lazy day.

Got home last last night from the drive-in, saw G I Joe: which is awesome, not impartially due to Channing Tatum running about for 2 hours clenching his jaw and looking gorgeous; and District 9, which I actually hated so much I proceeded to roll over and cover myself with blankets and go to sleep after the first 15 minutes.

I don't know why, but I didn't like it, and I didn't like it at all.

The hubby woke up feeling sick this morning, so he's been sprawled on the couch with the aid of Xbox and UFC. I picked up around the house for a bit and watched some tv in the bedroom before spending the last..oh...4 hours sitting here and flipping between a notepad full of html and GIMP editing this.....thing I've posted up there.

hee.

So yeah. Unexciting, yet again? haha. Okay, I'm gonna go watch some more tv before I do something lazy like order pizza......*grin*

I'd feel bad about still being in my pj's right now, but hell, it's a three day weekend. I'll do something productive tomorrow. ;-)

Random Fact of the Day: I have a new addiction to Dr. Pepper. *sigh*

We did have a challenge this week but due to unforseen events we have not been able to do it.

We lost our siamese cat Clyde Friday evening. He is STILL not home. Clyde is an inside kitty. He has never been outside in his life. We are worried...We have looked all night Friday... and i mean ALL night. I went to work Saturday morning, came back at noon and kept on looking until 6pm that evening. We knocked on every door in our neighborhood. Gave it over 200 flyers, put a note on Craigslist, notified Homeagain. I even called every clinic in the area while i was at work..

No word still....

We have had a couple of leads, but none mounted to anything...

If you think of it... send us a positive thought, if you pray say one for us, keep us in your thoughts....and hope he makes it back home....

Carte de visite by an unidentified photographer. In late June 1862, a Union prisoner of war recently captured at Gaines' Mill joined the population of Libby Prison and lifted spirits with song. His smooth tenor voice was recognizable to some, for he was pop music celebrity Marshall Spring Pike.

Born in Massachusetts in 1818, Pike's musical talents became evident early in life. By 14, he wrote music and lyrics. By 25, he impersonated a woman, in whiteface and flaxen wig, as part of a troupe performing as The Albino Family. A few years later, its members switched to blackface and performed as The Harmoneon Family, and later the Harmoneons. The troupe received many accolades, including a rave review after a concert series in Bangor, Maine, in 1845: "They never fail to please, and we bespeak for them a full house. They are the best fellows that ever sung."

Their travels took them through the North and Canada, and, in 1847, to a White House performance for President James K. Polk. Pike sang one of his own tunes, "The Grave of Washington," for the president.

Pike married Morning Oakes in 1849, the same year he wrote the hit song "Home Again," which remained a staple into the 20th century. The lyrics perhaps illustrate his own transformation from a road performer to a married man embarking upon the next chapter in his life:

Home again, home again, from a foreign shore!

And oh, it fills my soul with joy to meet my friends once more.

Here I dropp'd the parting tear, to cross the ocean's foam,

But now I'm once again with those who kindly greet me home.

Happy hearts, happy hearts, with mine have laughed in glee,

And oh, the friends I loved in youth seem happier to me;

And if my guide should be the fate which bids me longer roam,

But death alone can break the tie that binds my heart to home.

Music sweet, music soft, lingers round the place,

And oh, I feel the childhood charm that time cannot efface.

Then give me but my homestead roof, I'll ask no palace dome,

For I can live a happy life with those I love at home.

Over the next decade, he continued to perform on stage. In 1857, he organized his own troupe, "Pike's Harmoneons."

In September 1861, after civil war engulfed the land, 43-year-old Pike volunteered for military service. He became drum major of the 22nd Massachusetts Infantry and signed this portrait on October 8, only three days after the band mustered into the regiment and the same day they left Camp Schouler in Lynnfield, Mass., for Boston and then Washington, D.C.

The 22nd's first major campaign unfolded along the Virginia peninsula in early 1862. On June 27 at the Battle of Gaines' Mill, the regiment suffered its highest single loss in killed and wounded — 84. Pike fell into enemy hands during the engagement and his captors marched him off to Richmond and Libby Prison. A postwar sketch of Pike's life recounted his experience there: "There it was that some of those whose music-loving hearts he had delighted in former years, some southern friends who had learned that he was imprisoned, sought him out and the monotony of his life at Libby was somewhat lessened."

The sketch continued, "To while away the dreary hours in prison, Mr. Pike formed a glee club among his companions, and while it proved to be a source of comfort, it did not tend to benefit him. The prison authorities were so pleased with Mr. Pike's vocal abilities that they kept him a prisoner when there was opportunity for exchange, merely for the entertainment of the other prisoners."

In fact, his imprisonment lasted about 9 weeks. On Sept. 7, he left Libby with a parole and spent time at Fort Delaware, Del., and Camp Parole, Md., before receiving discharge a few days before Christmas 1862.

Pike continued to perform until the mid-1860s, according to post-war reports. Why he ended his music career is unclear: He may have retired early thanks to his earnings as a performer and song writer, or his style of "heart songs," as one newspaper described them, may have faded in popularity.

Three decades later, in early 1891, Pike came out of retirement and performed in Boston with other singers. Thats same year, at a regimental reunion, Pike learned from a guest that a prized baton presented to him by his comrades on Jan. 8, 1861, at Hall's Hill, Va., and lost during the Battle of Gaines' Mill had been spotted in the State House in Boston. Upon further inquiry, a committee appointed by the regimental association investigated and confirmed the State's Attorney General's office had possession of the baton, which had last been seen by Pike in a headquarters wagon with other baggage on the morning of the Gaines' Mill fight. The State surrendered the relic to the committee after determining the baton was Pike's personal property. Comrades returned the baton to Pike, who, consumed with joy, accepted it with tears of joy rolling down his cheeks.

Pike died ten years later at age 83. He survived his wife, Morning, who died in 1864. Historians remember him as a pioneer in minstrelsy and as an early female impersonator.

“The guns fade down . . .

“And it seems to me I hear a dog’s sharp bark, and a girl’s voice and the shrill of my own clear whistle . . .

“And the next thing I know, I’m over the gate and out of the war and . . . it’s Christmas again and I’m home. . .”

Well Sorbet is so glad to be home again and in the garden :D

Thanks Leslie for a very fun month!!! <3

We are not only having a heat wave unusual for this area, but fires all around us and this is causing unusual sunsets, which of course I helped along a bit, you know me!

But it sure was great to see that Pacific Ocean and see the sun sinking down, down, down, the first night home!

Thank you all for enjoying my travels with me, and I will have a few more photos to posst of some of the other things I saw along the way, and of course i will be going back to the "Blue Door" on occasion, as I still have not gotten on that horse! And I promise you I will do so!

Happy Week Everyone!

I've been many places

I've travelled 'round the world

Always on the search for something new

But what does it matter

When all the roads I've crossed

Always seem to lead back to you...

Old familiar faces

Everyone you meet

Following the ways of the land

Cobblestones and lanterns

Lining every street

Calling me to come home again

Dancing in the moonlight

Singing in the rain

Oh, it's good to be back home again

Laughing in the sunlight

Running down the lane

Oh, it's good to be back home again

When you play with fire

Sometimes you get burned

It happens when you take a chance or two

But time is never wasted

When you've lived and learned

And in time it all comes back to you...

Dancing in the moonlight

Singing in the rain

Oh, it's good to be back home again

Laughing in the sunlight

Running down the lane

Oh, it's good to be back home again

And when I got weary

I'd sit a while and rest

Memories invading my mind

All the things I'd treasured

The ones I'd loved the best

Were the things that I'd left behind....

Old familiar faces

Everyone you meet

Following the ways of the land

Cobblestones and lanterns

Lining every street

Calling me to come home again

Dancing in the moonlight

Singing in the rain

Oh, it's good to be back home again

Laughing in the sunlight

Running down the lane

Oh, it's good to be back home again

lalalalalala....Oh, it´s good to be back home again

lalalalalala....Oh, it´s good to be back home again

Dancing in the moonlight

Singing in the rain

Oh, it's good to be back home again

Laughing in the sunlight

Running down the lane

Oh, it's good to be back home again

Dancing in the moonlight

Singing in the rain...

Oh, it's good to be back home again

Iris and Junie had a great trip with their friends, but they’re happy to be back home again!

Travel Sketchbook - By bicycle from Carcassonne to St. Jean de Luz along the Pyrenees.

It was a great experience from the first moment to the last minute!

Now the bikes are stowed again behind the kitchen door.

From the handle hangs a cats toy.

THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR COMPANY IN THIS TRAVEL SKETCHBOOK!

I've hit my wall. I didn't want to scrap today. I almost gave up, but I decided to try to make something simple.

Journaling reads:

Finally home.

I got home today after being gone for seven days. It had been my third consecutive week on the road, so Cooper has been extra clingy all day.

“I sit on your lap Mama.”

“No. Mama do it.”

“I want Mama.”

I guess I can’t blame him, I missed him that much too.
