Totengräber graben tote Kleinsäuger und Vögel als Nahrung für ihre Nachkommen ein. Dabei wird auch das Fell oder die Federn entfernt. So bleibt nur ein Fleischball übrig, den sie als Nahrung für ihren Nachwuchs vorbereiten. Dieser Fleischball wird von den Käfern konserviert, indem sie ein antimikrobielles Sekret darauf abgeben. So wird die Verwesung verhindert.

Dieser Konservierungstrick bei der Brutpflege ist wohl einzigartig!

Beide Elternteile betreiben Brutpflege und füttern die geschlüpften Larven, bis diese selbständig Nahrung aufnehmen können.

Die Milben leben in Symbiose mit den Totengräbern. Sie werden vom Käfer zu Aas gebracht. Dort fressen sie bereits am Kadaver abgelegte Fliegeneier. So bleibt mehr für die Larven des Käfers übrig.

The We're Here! gang is visiting Christmas Dysfunction today.

My heart rate was elevated for a few days, and I was having the sensation of strong beating, so I went to the clinic. They sent me to the ER, where I got an ECG and blood test. They sent me home with a Holter monitor to track my heart activity over 24 hours. They also gave me a prescription for Lorazepam and referred me to counselling.

Honestly, the first six months of isolation was no problem for me. I grew up on a tiny island. Isolation is my happy place. But now, I find myself full of fear and dread, crying on the couch, not looking forward to anything, and just anxious and scared almost all the time.

So yeah, probably a good thing that this happened. But a great example of Christmas dysfunction for today's photo!!

This was the perfect application for MAVEN Filters! The last few hours of day when the sun gets lower to the horizon. Here I used the 10-stop Dark Polarizer with the Show Glow filter combined, adding a wonderful soft look to a beautiful vista. It's fun getting creative results like this.
