Photo taken at the mausoleum of Moulay Ali Cherif in Risani. Considered a holy city, Risani is the birthplace of the Alaouite dynasty, Morocco's ruling family.
There are some weird and wonderful features on the expansive limestone plateau of Scales Moor. You could easily fill an album with the shapes and foreground features in the bedrock and have the fabulous backdrop of one of the Yorkshire Dales three peaks, with Whernside shown here or the more distinctive Ingleborough as a background.
I thought this curious vent like feature provided an acceptable foreground with the erratic like boulders framing Whernside behind. John Bleakley and I spent a pleasurable hour or so around this spot just after the mist and low cloud disappeared.
I'm certain these Scales Moor boulders have featured in many an image, but I'd not seen this vent before.

The Paimio Sanatorium, designed by Alvar Aalto, is a significant example of functionalist architecture and is renowned for its innovative design tailored to the needs of tuberculosis patients.
Built between 1929 and 1933 near Turku, Finland, the sanatorium was conceived as a "cathedral to health and an instrument for healing" before effective medical treatments for tuberculosis were available.
Aalto's design for the sanatorium emphasized the importance of natural light and fresh air, with patient rooms oriented to maximize sunlight and views of the surrounding pine forest.
The building's aesthetic features include white walls and muted green ceilings, which were intended to create a calming environment for patients.
The interior design also focused on minimizing noise and discomfort, with specially designed sinks and curved furniture to reduce disturbances.
The color scheme of the sanatorium was carefully chosen, with elements like banana-yellow stairs with turquoise trim, pink light in the cafeteria, and mint-green details in communal areas and patient rooms.
These choices reflect Aalto's belief in the interplay between functionality and aesthetics, aiming to provide a soothing and uplifting environment for patients.
The Paimio Chair, a notable piece of furniture designed by Aalto for the sanatorium, exemplifies his innovative use of materials and ergonomic design. Made from bent birch wood, the chair was designed to support patients in a reclining position, aligning with the therapeutic goals of the sanatorium.
Overall, the Paimio Sanatorium is a testament to Aalto's holistic approach to architecture, where every detail was considered to enhance the well-being of its occupants

The holistic concept in medical practice, which is distinct from the concept in the alternative medicine, upholds that all aspects of people's needs including psychological, physical and social should be taken into account and seen as a whole. A 2007 study said the concept was alive and well in general medicine in Sweden.[3]
Some practitioners of holistic medicine use alternative medicine exclusively, though sometimes holistic treatment can mean simply that a physician takes account of all a person's circumstances in giving treatment. Sometimes when alternative medicine is mixed with mainstream medicine the result is called "holistic" medicine, though this is more commonly termed integrative medicine.[2]

An Animistic, Spiritualist, and Holistic Perspective
In the context of animism, the distinction between what is considered "living" and "inanimate" is quite tenuous, since it is believed that everything possesses a vital essence or spirit.
When we speak of stagnant forces, we are describing what many traditions call "miasma" or "heavy energy" (like hucha in the Andean tradition), which acts as a clot in the Earth's circulatory system.
In this view, the so-called "spirits of stagnation in nature" represent invisible influences—whether entities, energies, or consciousnesses—that, for various reasons, hinder the natural flow, renewal, and vital balance of an environment.
Causes of Stagnation in Nature
Below are detailed the main causes and consequences associated with the concept of stagnation, based on notions of energy, connection with nature, and spiritualist studies on hidden influences:
- Dense Human Feelings and Energies (Psychic Residues): Places marked by conflict, pain, vices, or selfishness tend to accumulate negative energies. These energies, also known as thought-forms or spirits of lower elevation, connect with natural environments, blocking their vitality and hindering renewal.
- Lack of Movement and Renewal: Environments that do not receive light, air, or movement—such as stagnant waters or places without air circulation—become conducive to the fixation of stagnant energies, favoring the absence of dynamism and the blockage of vital flow.
- Disrespect and Environmental Degradation: The destruction, pollution, and environmental imbalance caused by humans, such as deforestation and water contamination, generate disharmony. This attracts nature spirits or unbalanced energies, resulting in environments where the vital flow is impaired.
- Self-Punishment and Fear: Disembodied spirits that remain in stagnant areas due to feelings of guilt or fear end up projecting these feelings onto the surrounding nature. This reinforces the cycle of stagnation, as such entities relive their actions or obsessively protect certain territories, becoming negative guardians or restless spirits.
- Imbalance of Elementals: Beings of nature (elementals) are spirits or consciousnesses inherent in the forces of nature (earth, air, fire, water) and can respond negatively when their habitat is disrespected. By withdrawing the vital force from a place, they contribute to the stagnation and weakening of the environment.
- Post-Mortem Malevolence: When a malevolent person dies, their negative energy influences the post-mortem state. This malevolence can permeate the essence of places, such as lakes or houses, or objects, altering the spiritual vibration and making the environment hostile or "haunted."
- Contamination of Space and Fixation of Dense Energies: Destructive and obsessive spirits can remain trapped in a place or object due to strong emotional attachment, thirst for revenge, or the density of their energy. This fixation contributes to the permanence of negative energies, intensifying the stagnation of the environment.

- Autopunição e Medo: Espíritos desencarnados que permanecem em áreas de estagnação por sentimentos de culpa ou medo acabam projetando esses sentimentos na natureza circundante. Isso reforça o ciclo de estagnação, pois tais entidades revivem suas ações ou protegem obsessivamente determinados territórios, tornando-se guardiãs negativas ou espíritos inquietos.
- Desequilíbrio dos Elementais: Seres da natureza (elementais) são espíritos ou consciências inerentes às forças da natureza (terra, ar, fogo, água) e podem responder de forma negativa quando o seu habitat é desrespeitado. Originally built as a holistic spring water resort in 1927 it functioned in this capacity until its closure in 1986. It reopened in 1997 as a restaurant with interior details such as a 6 foot chandelier, a European style fireplace & furniture imported from France. Exterior features such as a french style gazebo & large water fountains. The restaurant closed for good in 2012.
