Our final destination on this trip, Hội An is like nowhere else we have seen in Vietnam. We’re within a few minutes’ walk of the old town which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site comprising predominantly yellow-coloured buildings from wooden Chinese shophouses and temples to colourful French colonial buildings, ornate Vietnamese tube houses and the iconic Japanese Covered Bridge, with many of the buildings fronting onto the Thu Bon River.

In the evening Hội An becomes a sea of colour when all the lanterns are lit up and colourful floating candles and sampans glide along the river. It’s quite magical.

És un transport més per guanyar-se la vida que per ser molt pràctic.

It is more of a way to make a living than to be very practical.

Es una manera de ganarse la vida buscando sobre todo a extranjeros para darte una vuelta.

One of Vietnam's most iconic attractions, Hoi An's Japanese covered bridge dates back to the 18th century and is a beautiful historical piece of Japanese architecture.

It is also known as the Pagoda bridge.

There is no doubt HoiAn is one of Asia's most picturesque cities, the yellow buildings throughout the town centre of really nice. It was to the riverside then to get a nice reflection photo against the blue sky.

Hoi An - Vietnam

The historic city of Hoi An is very well regarded as a tourist destination. It is UNESCO registered and generally the whole city dates back to the eighteenth century with elements maybe two hundred year older. It is smart, clean and orderly. Our friends who had visited Vietnam a few months before us recommended the city as their favourite spot off on their South Eastern holiday. In fact I recently read an online report which rated Hoi An as one of the ten most attractive Asian cities. With all of that in mind you might think that I would have been over the moon.

Well, it was attractive and clean, but to me it appeared to be a tourist trap that was full of retail outlets all wanting to extract your very last Dong or Dollar. I know that Shirley liked it but it just didn't seem earthy enough or original enough for me. Although it was inoffensive I can't say that I would be in a rush to return.

Thankfully it just goes to show how different we all are.
