The sign above the door says the school was in operation from 1895 to 1967. Any children who remain in the area now bus to Red Lodge. Luckily, the property owner maintains the structure.

Union Pacific's Stockton, California – North Platte, Nebraska manifest approaches 5,676 ft. Hogan Tunnel on the former Western Pacific main line between Spruce and Sage, Nevada.
View behind my house, Austin. (We call this octagonal cottage "the hogan." For more about this structure see my blog.)
BNSF 9027 has come to a stop on Main 1 a few hundred feet away from Kalamath Street along I-25. The crew of the train is actually tying the train down on Main 1. The SUV to the right will take the crew back to the yard office. Typically, southbounds are tied down in the siding known as Hogan's Alley. However, as you can see, there is already a train tied down there. So, for the time being, Main 2 will be the only track open in either direction between Walnut Street and South Denver. In the distance, Longs Peak stands tall at 14,259 feet above sea level.

Brooke Hogan is really having issues keeping her mouth shut lately when it comes to her family. First she drops the bomb about her mother dating the guy who is younger than HER, and now she’s decided that she needs to tell the world just how unhappy she is about it. This vintage photo shows Byron Nelson and Ben Hogan in 1941. The two were rivals as teens growing up and playing in Fort Worth but had completely opposite personalities and were never close. It hangs with a number of other historic photos in the men's locker room at CCC.
Colonial is a private golf club and is host to an annual PGA Tour event. It is the longest running PGA Tour event to be held at the same site. The course opened in 1936 and hosted the US Open in 1941.
In several visits to Monument Valley, I've never thought to take a look at what these hogans look like on the inside until this visit. Really cool looking interior. It's a traditional Navajo structure built of logs covered with mud.
Shot this with the 15mm fisheye.
This is a different hogan, also in Monument Valley. Notice how completely different the construction is on this one. The other had all the logs leaning in vertically, like a teepee. This one has them all stacked horizontally, in a big circle.
What you can't see in this photo is me, running around in a circle, trying to kick up as much dust as possible, to make the light ray show up, then pulling my shirt op over my face, trying to breathe. Choking on all the dust in the air as I shot this.
I was going to post this as a comment photo under yesterdays post, but decided I liked it too much to let the new (piece of shit) flickr completely bury it as they do with comment photos now.
Navajo Hogan. The Navajo's built these earthen huts to protect themselves from the blazing sunrises and sunsets of the Colorado Plateau. This hogan is in Monument Valley.

Here's one from that frigid morning in Monument Valley last month. This traditional Hogan was built near the entrance to the loop road that goes down through the valley.
