The Johnsons were on a little family vacation to Soul-to-Soul Highlands. They had picked up a hitchhiker earlier that day on their way down to the coast. He was quiet, but polite, and grateful for the ride. When they stopped to watch in awe as a storm rolled in off the ocean, he seemed nervous. It was as if he knew before they did just how close the storm was.
So like I wrote last night, nothing could prepare us for what was coming next... But lets take things back from the beginning.
It's been some time now I wanted to get into astrophotography with Milky Way. So I was reading, watching and learning, making plans and all, till finally the day I thought would be the most convenient one had arrived. Wednesday night past week, and I had done my homework, checked the weather, the moon rise and set timetables and all, and finally there we were on the road to the south end of Athens, on our way to Sounio.
But when we arrived at our destination, some 10-15 kilometers away from Poseidon's temple and despite all this preparation, the sky was cloudy! Meteo sites were giving "clear skies" but still... What a disappointment! So there we are, driving to Poseidon's Temple to check if we could have a different angle and maybe see through some gap in the clouds. No dice. Everything seemed lost and the night wasn't going as planned. But then again when does it ever?!
So, back we go to the original destination point, hoping that the sky would clear up. Yet it didn't. It was getting late and we decided we should get back home, for the day tomorrow was a working day and waking up wouldn't be easy at all. We were on our way back home, empty handed, when I looked at my rear view mirror and saw a somewhat contrasty quiet sharp turn of the road. So I decided to stop and see what I could get out of it before we call it a day. We hadn't found what we were looking for that night, so this could well turn to be the silverlining of that story at least.
Took some shots and as I was ready to start packing up my gear, I realized the sky was finally clear! Crystal clear to be exact! I could almost see the Milky Way with naked eyes! It was true. No photos, no videos no nothing could ever prepare us compared to the real thing in regards to that feeling. That distinct certain feeling of the first time!
So I'm focusing to infinity as best I could, getting my aperture wide open, set my shutter speed accordingly, bump my ISO up, frame the shot and click the shutter release button...
Fifteen seconds later, my first ever astrophoto with the Milky Way center in it, was born...!!!
Hitchhikers why fly when you can ride and maybe get some free snacks, found these guys while riding the car ferry on the Inter coastal in North Carolina.
As the various horse shows roll into the Iowa State Fair they must stow all the decorative hitch hardware and harnesses for the horses.
These are for Belgian Horses and are owned by HerscH Belgians farms.
He caught a ride from Juneau Alaska to Kushiro Japan. He helped clean up all the birds that dropped :-(( He became the ships mascot.

While I was in the garden yesterday this little critter landed on my glasses. Yes I know the glasses are not particularly clean, they are the ones that live in my camera bag. It stayed while I took the glasses off and took a few shots!

A pair common toads on their way to the lake. The male is hitchhiking on her back - so he could be sure not to loose her to another male. It looks a bit comical watching the ladies carrying their grooms around. Seems to be hard work...

It is not really a good idea to hitchike at 5 in the morning next to the psych ward :D only a car passed that hour and it didn't stop, at least we were wise enough to move a little bit, later we finally managed all the way to kjerag and back to Jorpeland by the evening :)
