The Concheros dance, also known as the Chichimecas, Aztecas and Mexicas, is an important traditional dance and ceremony which has been performed in Mexico since early in the colonial period. It presents syncretic features both pre-Hispanic and Christian. The dance has strong visual markers of its pre-Hispanic roots with feathered regalia, indigenous dance steps and indigenous instruments such as drums (Wikipedia)

This Hispanic Heritage Monument is located on the grounds of the Texas state capitol in Austin, Texas.

UPDATE: Hispanic Elvis died in March 2022 after contracting COVID.
His given name was John "JJ" Cisneros.
During the entire trip down the great plains and middle of the U.S. I only saw Christian non-Catholic churches, with a strong turn towards evangelical churches through the Texas Panhandle. Here in south-central Texas I began to see Catholic churches, no doubt due to the higher Hispanic presence closer to the border.

right eye retouch by Lyna J Grey.
This cute girl had a fabric flaw when I purchased her: just her left eye had black eyeliner on. I had seen other Hispanic barbies with this flaw before, and I'll never understand how Mattel painters could forget to paint one eye...LOL! now she's perfect! she's got heavy make up for being an Hispanic Barbie but I find her particular for this ;)

Pre-Hispanic City and National Park of Palenque
A prime example of a Mayan sanctuary of the classical period, Palenque was at its height between AD 500 and 700, when its influence extended throughout the basin of the Usumacinta River. The elegance and craftsmanship of the buildings, as well as the lightness of the sculpted reliefs with their Mayan mythological themes, attest to the creative genius of this civilization.
Temple of Inscriptions. Set atop a stepped pyramid located below the Palacio, it was built over a funerary crypt that was explored in 1952.
The Temple of the Inscriptions is the largest Mesoamerican stepped pyramid structure at the pre-Columbian Maya civilization site of Palenque, located in the modern-day state of Chiapas, Mexico. The structure was specifically built as the funerary monument for K'inich Janaab' Pakal, ajaw or ruler of Palenque in the 7th century whose reign over the polity lasted almost 70 years. Construction of this monument commenced in the last decade of his life, and was completed by his son and successor K'inich Kan B'alam II. Within Palenque, the Temple of the Inscriptions is located in an area known as the Temple of the Inscriptions’ Court and stands at a right angle to the Southeast of the Palace. The Temple of the Inscriptions has been significant in the study of the ancient Maya, owing to the extraordinary sample of hieroglyphic text found on the Inscription Tablets, the impressive sculptural panels on the piers of the building, and the finds inside the tomb of Pakal.

As I mentioned earlier, the first few aisles left of the frozen foods department are now home to the international foods department (though I'm not sure what's so Hispanic about the product selection in this picture!) There were about two aisles each dedicated to Asian and Hispanic foods (at least per the aisle signs, since I didn't look at the product selection too seriously when I was there and this aisle, at least, certainly doesn't seem to have what it claims to...)
I'll be interested to see how these products do in a town like Port Angeles, which isn't a particularly diverse place. On the other hand, though, there hasn't traditionally been anywhere in town to get these sort of things. Of course, the fact that at least one aisle of the Hispanic department no longer seems to have much Hispanic foods in it could be a sign that it's already not doing so good...
Also visible here is an aisle sign. They're super boring, but not too ugly, at least compared to much of the other decor that Saar's is using. I also really like the use of aisle "names" again, like Safeway once did. The "HISPANIC" banner signs, on the other hand... yeah, they're extra ugly!
Hispanic women have the lowest risk of breast cancer than any other groups of women.
Today, just today!, scientists have identified a gene variation in some Hispanic women that provides significant protection against breast cancer.
About 20% of Hispanic women have one copy of this genetic variant, decreasing their risk of breast cancer by 40%.
Women with two copies of the variant are 80% less likely to develop breast cancer, especially the more aggressive forms of the disease. These women also have breast tissue that appears less dense on mammograms, which reduces the risk of cancer.
Researchers say this may explain why Hispanics have the lowest risk of breast cancer than any other ethnic group.
This study was led by researchers at University of California San Francisco and published in 'Nature Communications.'
Now, we need to find out why and coordinate our efforts to find out how we can use this information to lessen the risk with all groups of women.
