The sun is just behind the horizon as Hialeah based CSX local Y322 slowly trundles through the overgrown and trash littered alleyway with two empty boxcars from Pan American Papers in tow. Having worked the Miami Downtown spur overnight, the crew is in their last hours of work as they switch the last remaining handful of carload customers in Hialeah's East Rail district. Pan American Papers, Sentry Industries, Suburban Propane, and Salco are the last customers in this area. The crew barely broke daylight in this scene, stretching the limits of my 5D. It was still completely dark and lightly raining when the rails started creaking and the engine came crawling around the corner to retrieve the cars. Hialeah, FL

This was a Plan B shot after horrendous traffic ruled out Stuart...

CSX did some reshuffling of their service plan in Hialeah, particularly for the Gardens Lead. Previously split between Y220 and Y322, Y220 was abolished some time ago in favor of a remote control job, Y190. Also heard time to time is an evening Y290. CSX Y19003, the first RCO symbol in quite a while in the Miami terminal, spots a boxcar at Kam Long on track GL3 within yard limits. The Gardens Lead continues to be a hive of some industry, with at least a dozen customers sprinkled throughout seven leads and a main track. The congestion around Hialeah Yard and demands of the Gardens Lead perhaps make remote control operations a viable answer, for now. Cars continue to be sprinkled wherever they can, even on unused leads. Nonetheless this district is perfect for model railroading and a future ECHOES project... stay tuned for that.

818 & 820 cross Cypress Creek, Fort Lauderdale whilst hauling FEC121-20 from Bowden Yard to Hialeah, 21 Nov 2017

Typically FEC has to send the Unit Train power from "the barn" in Hialeah Yard to Medley for the night's 336, and 109's empties eventually have to make it west as well to Titan and Rinker for refills. This move usually happens in the evening hours and by a matter of luck as a pretty heavy thunderstorm cleared, Job 10 took the 720/714 and 412 to Medley.

CSXT 2765 shoves a loaded box and tank through the weeds toward Sentry Industries in Hialeah, FL. Sentry receives the tanks and the boxcar would be delivered to Schwartz Partners Packaging later. This is part of CSX's East Rail industrial district which is unfortunately served at night now. Four customers make up the district South of the FEC diamond: Sentry, Suburban Propane, Salco Enterprises, and Pan American Papers. Hialeah, FL

More the exception than the norm, FEC train 109 makes a late afternoon appearance by the Hialeah racetrack with LNG set and a true mixed bag, The stacks at the front of the train were a nice treat giving the head end the look of an intermodal hotshot, although this was not quite that.

As Florida East Coast freight 101 arrives at its destination of Hialeah Yard in Hialeah, Florida outside Miami the train proceeds to the south end of the yard, where the entire train is taken through a loop to turn north before the crew begins to switch cuts into the yard. In charge of this day's train is a matching set of ES44C4's bracketing an LNG tender in the FEC Champion Scheme.

FEC 430 pulls out of the Trujilio & Sons industrial spur in Hialeah, FL on the FEC downtwon job. Customers have dwindled down to almost nothing on the FEC here, with the only regular remaining shippers being Florida Bulk and Trujilio & Sons and a few shippers getting served as needed. The spur to the right still serves Vision Candles, where a tank of wax is spotted every month or so. Several customers have disappeared within the last year or so: Omni Transloading once received reefers and boxcars almost daily just a year ago or so, but now appears to have consolidated all its rail traffic to another warehouse near the airport. Gilda Industries once received hoppers of flour every few weeks but no longer appears to do so. Dependable Warehousing received boxcars a few days a week but hasn't gotten service in a good year. That leaves Trujilio and Florida Bulk as daily shippers and Vision Candles, Isaac Industries, Petro Choice, and the water treatment plant with infrequent switches. Miami, FL

CSX O72117 is a "lucky" one on St. Patrick's Day rolling by Tri-Rail's Hialeah Market Station, formerly the SAL Hialeah Station with the 3194 and 911 leading. The RS5T reminisces of the Seaboard days putting the motors full circle with the ex-Seaboard Miami style scenery.

After stopping to throw the switch into one of the yard tracks, Florida East Coast manifest freight 101 arrives at Hialeah Yard in Hialeah, Florida outside of Miami. While a pair of champion painted ES44C4's lead today's 101, a pair of ES44C4's recently repainted into the Grupo Mexico scheme are sitting at the LNG fueling facility to refill the tender in preparation for another trip north.

Circumstances on the railroad led FEC Hialeah to send the 3PM job to Savage Services as the regular Downtown Job lawed out. Using the same power, they called as "Downtown Job 2.0" which was neat. There will be a shot of the "1.0" coming soon.

CSXT 2042 shoves a 60' standard-height boxcar loaded with bags of salt and two empties pulled from the siding a moment earlier down the weed and trash infested spur to Salco Enterprises. The sun has just made it above the horizon and perks through a layer of clouds as the overnight Y322 crew makes their last move for the shift. Salco is one of four remaining customers on CSX's East Rail district, a bustling industrial section in Hialeah close to downtown Miami. Miami, FL
