There are 9 types of echinacea, three of which are used for medicinal purposes, native to North America. In herbal medicine, the leaves and seeds of this plant are used, but its roots have the most valuable healing properties.
For centuries, Echinacea has endowed people with its extraordinary beauty and healing properties. For its lovely inflorescences, Echinacea is called the "American golden flower" or "evening sun". And today, with its unusually attractive inflorescences, it will decorate any garden, and beekeepers will appreciate it - after all, it is an excellent honey plant. Blooming from mid-summer to mid-autumn, Echinacea flowers attract many butterflies, bees and bumblebees to the garden. As a honey plant, the plant is valuable because it blooms at the end of summer, when the main honey plants have already faded. From one hectare of continuous crops of echinacea, 60-130 kg of honey can be obtained.
Only Echinacea purpurea has been well studied, it is widely used in medicine and is popular in ornamental gardening. The American Indians, knowing about the healing power of echinacea, cultivated it centuries ago and used it as a universal medicine for a variety of diseases.
Echinacea roots and herb contain essential oils, resins, phytosterols, carbohydrates, isobutylamides, fatty oil, and a variety of other substances. 7 groups of biologically active substances have been found in plants, which include polysaccharides, flavonoids, caffeic acid derivatives, essential lipids, alkylamides, vitamins and trace elements.
Experts recommend taking echinacea for any septic conditions, symptoms of blood poisoning, meningitis, bronchitis, tonsillitis, otitis media, burns, boils and purulent ulcers, gangrene, stomatitis, gum disease, candidiasis, psoriasis, eczema, inflammatory processes of the genitourinary system, postlercosis , gonorrhea, herpes, hemorrhoids.
As it turned out, echinacea not only stimulates antiviral and antibacterial immunity, but also directly, like antibiotics, causes the death of bacteria, viruses and some fungi. It is especially effective to use echinacea during epidemics, as it helps the body to cope with viral diseases. Echinacea extracts inhibit the growth and reproduction of streptococcus, staphylococcus, Escherichia coli. The preparations of this plant are effective in the treatment of prostatitis, gynecological disorders, various wound processes (trophic ulcers, osteomyelitis). Juice from fresh inflorescences accelerates blood clotting. In general, the remedy is recognized as non-toxic, but in some cases it is not recommended to take echinacea - during pregnancy and lactation, with tuberculosis, leukemia, multiple sclerosis, collagenosis.

Dear Polly Jean Harvey, on the Occasion of Your Fourth Birthday,
I remember when we picked you out at the shelter. Well, honestly you picked us. You climbed up onto my shoulder and called me mommy. (Everyone else said you were saying "meow" but I knew better) and you made sure I took you home.
PJ Harvey, I knew you'd be a little bit of trouble since the time we met. I was told you had Herpes virus (you promiscuous kitten, you!) and that you would need eye drops at least once a day for a year and lysine in all your food. I also found out you had a heart murmur which means you have to take it relatively easy. That's ok for a cat, though. We weren't exactly expecting hard labor from you and you seem quite pleased to lie about all day on beds made from blankets and pillows.
PJ Harvey, you are not the brightest cat. You like to eat things like shoelaces and have ruined several of my dresses eating the straps from them. You have given us quite a scare a few times but have always thrown these items up. And, at the same time, you aren't interested in any cat treats or wet food like your brother and sister love. It's quite weird. Often times, I wake up in the middle of the night and you are purring like a fiend eating my hair. So very strange.
PJ Harvey, you choose who to love and you would make a great guard cat because you yowl like a banshee whenever someone you don't know comes to visit. You act as if you have been personally wronged. You also don't like change and get nervous when you see us pull our suitcases out. But, we would never leave you for too long. We know you are our cat and love you, no matter how odd you are.
Happy Birthday, Polly Jean. You are the queen of this household and we are merely your servants.

Excerpt from the plaque:
A Lantern that Goes Through the Womb
This stone lantern has been famous since the Edo period as the “lantern for passing through the womb”, and it is said that passing under this lantern will ward off insects and provide a charm for children with herpes.
Created by William Valentine Wright in 1860, Wright's Traditional Soap, or Wright's Coal Tar Soap, is a popular brand of antiseptic soap that is designed to thoroughly cleanse the skin. It is an orange colour and for over 150 years, Wright’s Coal Tar Soap was and still is a popular brand of household soap; its successor can still be bought in supermarkets and from chemists worldwide. It was developed by William Valentine Wright in 1860 from "liquor carbonis detergens", the liquid by-product of the distillation of coal to make coke; the liquid was made into an antiseptic soap for the treatment of skin
It no longer contains the natural anti-bacterial 'coal tar' as that is carcinogenic and it has been substituted with 'tee tree oil'. Though toxic in large doses 'tee tree oil is believed to be effective against a variety of dermatological conditions, including dandruff, acne, lice, herpes, and other skin infections. The formula might have changed but that wonderful coal tar fragrance remains.
I don’t believe the little orange blocks of 'Wrights' soap to be superior to any other soap and I'd agree there are soaps which are more pleasing to the eye, that form a lather better and perhaps clean better but in my mind, there is no soap that smells better, that has a more evocative scent and that brings back memories of comfort, cosiness and cleanliness from my childhood!
And I believe that Wrights Coal Tar Soap will be the only bar of soap that you would ever see that has a little motivational Latin motto on it, ‘.....’Perseverando Vinces’ which means ‘Perseverance Conquers All’!
After a long hiatus, unfortunately, I have returned. Less like Douglas fucking McCarthur and more like General Herpes. I dont know how long this particular outbreak will last, long enough to be disruptive but not long enough to make a difference?

These times are troubled and these times are good
And they're always gonna be, they rise and they fall
We take 'em all the way that we should
Together you and me forsaking them all
Deep in the night and by the light of day
It always looks the same, true love always does
And here by your side, or a million miles away
Nothin's ever gonna change the way that I feel,
The way it is, is the way that it was
When I said I do, I meant that I will 'til the end of all time
Be faithful and true, devoted to you
That's what I had in mind when I said I do
Well this old world keeps changin', and the world stays the same
For all who came before, and it goes hand and hand
Only you and I can undo all that we became
That makes us so much more, than a woman and a man
And after everything that comes and goes around
Has only passed us by, here alone in our dreams
I know there's a lonely heart in every lost and found
But forever you and I will be the ones
Who found out what forever means
When I said I do, I meant that I will 'til the end of all time
Be faithful and true, devoted to you
That's what I had in mind when I said I do
Truer than true, you know that I'll always be there for you
That's what I had in mind, that's what I had in mind,
When I said I do

Remember when warts were, like, "in"?
I don't mean in style in the fashion sense. I mean "in" as in talked about by advertisers and media. You know... like erectile dysfunction, and depression, and herpes, and all the myriad illnesses championed these days in TV and magazine ads.
When I was a kid, society's concerns (at least in that department) seemed to be simpler... more down to earth. Like dandruff. And bad breath. And stinky pits. And warts.
I remember the wart thing well because I had them. And Compound W ads were, in those days, inescapable. They started with a young woman crying. And someone asking, "Why the tears?" And her choked up reply was a sniffle and a single, painful word: "Warts."
Oh, the humanity.
Still... I guess the advertising worked. Because I tried Compound W. I also tried sliced raw potatoes. And every other going "cure" for warts in the day. Nothing seemed to make a difference. I had superwarts. Apparently immune to any and all human interventions.
I had this one on the inside of my right elbow. It was massive. Composed of many many long rooty things and protruding at least an inch (no exaggeration), it was roughly the size of a pencil eraser. And because it stuck out, it was always getting snagged on things... zippers, hems, sleeve holes, twigs when I was climbing trees.
It reached its peak of glory in about Grade 5. We were outside, high jumping... going over the bar onto a mat composed of chunks of foam, held together with netting. I was in my element. All the kids hated me, but I was fast and springy and a very good jumper. And so... as they raised the bar higher and higher... it came down to just me and one other girl still taking turns while the others stood and watched.
As I rolled across the mat after finishing my last jump, I felt this tugging on my elbow. And because it didn't hurt, I didn't realize I'd basically torn the wart off on the snaggy stringy netting. As I walked back to take my place for the next jump, the other kids started making faces, going "Ewwww!" and pointing and laughing... which (sad to say) was not at all unusual for me. So... again, I didn't really think anything of it. Until I saw all the blood.
I enjoyed a day of elementary school semi-fame... with kids paying positive attention to me. Instead of just making fun of me, they actually tried being nice... just so they could gawk at the gaping bleeding hole in my arm where the wart had been.
We searched some for the wart, too. But it must have ended up on the ground. Or lost somewhere in the spongy chunks of the highjump mat. Whatever. That was the end of my elbow wart. The hole healed and that was that. And that was the end of my warts in general.
Until I turned 40. Suddenly, the warts were back. And not in fun, easy places like my elbow. See that thing just above my eyelid? Yep, it's a wart. And... just like the one I used to have on my elbow, it's made of many rooty things and sticks way out... and it's growing at an alarming rate. I have a new one on one of my fingers, too... and it's not just rooty and sticky-outy... it has nice black hairs growing out of it!!!
The one by my eye will have to be removed (as have several others which were growing on the same eyelid). It's a fast, fairly painless procedure. My doctor dabs them with liquid nitrogen, they dry up and they fall off. Well... most of the time. The one you can see here has already been zapped twice. So I'm hoping it'll be third time lucky.
The one on my finger... that I'm keeping. It's not like it's in the way or anything. And... hmmm... who knows. I may even shoot it one of these days. After all, it's part of me. Part of who I am. Part (as I like to joke) of my Eastern European heritage.
So... yeah. This is me. Warts and all. It was just a test shot, but I really like the light... especially in the tulip leaves.

During our short stay in Hua Hin we took the chance to visit the Khao Takiab hill, also known as monkey mountain or Chopstick hill. On top of the hill is the Wat Khao Lad temple, which is also known as the monkey temple, because of the many monkeys that live there. There are several ways to reach the top of the mountain and Khao Lad temple. One is walking the stairs, the other is taking the road by taxi, tuk tuk or motorbike. Walking your way up the stairs will give you some very rewarding views of Hua Hin, North of Khao Takiab. On a clear day, you can see as far as Cha-Am beach. A large number of macaque monkeys live on top of the mountain. This is an excellent opportunity to see them from very close and a lot better than in a zoo, since they live free here and are not contained in cages. The monkeys are curious animals and pretty cheeky. They like to grab things and if they know you have food somewhere, they will try to get it. Although they are used to people, they are still wild animals, do not try to touch them, as they might bite you. There are 23 species of macaques are widespread over Earth. Macaques have a very intricate social structure and hierarchy. If a macaque of a lower level in the social chain has eaten berries and none are left for a higher-level macaque, then the one higher in status can, within this social organization, remove the berries from the other monkey's mouth. Nearly all pet and captive macaques are carriers of the herpes B virus. This virus is harmless to macaques, but infections of humans, while rare, are potentially fatal, a risk that makes macaques unsuitable as pets.
The chopstick hill in Hua Hin in Thailand is also called Monkey Mountain. It is home to many macaques that possibly do not even know that they have chosen a spot with one of the best views of the coast. It was so easy to get there and super funny to see the monkeys. Especially the cool ones that jumped off the rocks into the water were great!

The weather today was stormy with light breaks, but we managed to outrun the rain and find some awesome beaches to explore and watch the waves.....and turtles trying to land on the beach or eat algae in the pounding waves.
"Unfortunately, honu (greens) are suffering from a disease called fibropapillomatosis. This herpes-family virus causes the growth of white to blackish, cauliflower-like tumors. The condition is characterized by benign epithelial tumours on the soft tissues of the turtle’s body, internally and externally, and inhibit foraging, breathing, mobility and digestion. It is still 100% unclear what causes this disease, but research is ongoing worldwide to find a cure."

Thank you for the encyclopedia books "The Foods With Their Healing Power and Medicinal Plants". I am Learning lots of information from them. This will be of great benefit to me when referring to the healing powers of foods. I will use this information in my chiropractic office when teaching about healthy eating to my patients. It is good to know that there are books that can provide this type of vital information to those who are willing to benefit from the information. Again thanks for these incredible books.

It is my pleasure to recommend a set of books that I used and believe to be quite informational: Foods And Their Healing Power and Medicinal Plants. As a Fellow, in the Medical Fellowship Program at Wildwood Lifestyle Center and Hospital, I have found these books to be quite helpful. They provide accurate nutritional information for a wide array of foods found throughout the world and they include a list of medicinal plants with their properties and mechanisms of action. In addition, they are written without the usual heavy jargon, which makes them appealing to healthcare professionals, non-health care persons and children. The quality is superb and the material is presented in a colorful way. I have recommended them, on numerous occasions, to guests and patients at the Wildwood Lifestyle Center and Hospital. This set of books will complement the home and any other learning enviroments.

I am writing this letter to offer my gratitude regarding the Encyclopedia of Medicinal Plants. In your description of the books you explained how beautiful they were and their content. All that I can say is that your words were not enough! The books have already proven to be an incredible asset to my own education and the promotion of God's health message to others.
The color and clarity of photographs is nothing less than phenomenal and the information given on each of the foods and medicinal plants far surpasses anything that I have been able to find thus far in book form or on the Internet. Not only will this prove very valuable in a health ministry but also in my profession as a medical doctor in education of my patients.
Please feel free to use me as a reference if anyone medical or non-medical needs further insight on these very valuable tools. Thanks again and God bless you!

The value of this encyclopedia lies in its rational and truly practical focus point for healing and preventing the diseases of your family, without the disadvantages that most medicines have.
The pharmaceutical laboratories are aiming their research efforts towards the vegetable world, in such a way that more and more often you can find medicines prepared using medicinal plants by the chemists.
The creator has given foods a healing and preventative power, particularly when we use a balanced diet in combination with other natural elements, such as the sun, water, clean air, medicinal plants and a good mental disposition.

About Wee Mary McDhui's eyes. Twice day I am putting in gel to keep them moist. I had to cancel the appointment with the Animal Eye Specialist due to work conflicts so we are getting rescheduled. The Animal Eye Doc is not in late nor on weekends.... so it makes it extra difficult. But we will get there.
Her eyes still are a tad 'icky' and some swelling. But she isn't rubbing them that is a good sign. So, hopefully we can get some different meds and or start anti-virals.
Mary McD has Cat Herpes . Just like humans get cold sores, her outbreaks occur in her eyes.. :-( .. She is partially blind in her left eye. So the plan is to keep her right eye in good working order.
A “pretty in pink” wild geranium springing up amidst the fallen autumnal leaves in an open woodland setting near Tod Creek, Gowlland Tod Provincial Park, Vancouver Island, BC.
The Herb-Robert Geranium (Geranium robertianum) is both a winter and a spring annual or bienennial. It is a low-growing plant that is hairy and shallowly rooted, its leaves have a pungent smell. Geranium robertianum aka Robert's geranium was introduced from Eurasia and is considered an invasive weed in BC. It inhabits clearings, meadows, grassy openings, and open forests. It is well established in southwest BC down to the Pacific coast to California.
Some people use Herb Robert as a mouthwash or gargle and insect repellent. Additionally, it has various medicinal properties for sore mouth and throat. It can also be applied to the skin for mosquito bites, parasites, herpes, arthritis, and sciatica.
Notice the drunken blonde walking down the street barefooted and wearing some sort of blanket or towel...she was so drunk...And looked like Courtney Love...Was it Courtney Love? Anyway...Happy 2006, skank. I truly hope, during this holiday season, you didn't catch anything you can't get rid of (ie Herpes).
Several years ago The ManFlesh's cat got ocular herpes which is in the same family as chicken pox, shingles and oral & genital herpes. This friend's sister gave him and the cat LOTS of grief about it, calling into question the cat's moral character.
Well, turns out this same sister contracted ocular herpes herself over the summer! The ManFlesh only found out through their mom. Seems it's a very common virus, but turn about is fair play and he's been getting even on behalf of his cat. Part of that is this birthday present which he commissioned from me.
entender, cede excelentes mercedes. El Rebelde merece el belvedere...
___Esther, eres efervescente.
__Ese vejete me prende. Es jefe, regente, gerente. Perennemente deberes:
"llevenme el neceser," "llenenme de peces," "repten," trepen," "dejen de
verme," "respetenme," "festejenme," "preserveren," "refrenense,"
"esperen," vegeten," "dejense." Se cree el Ser, el Tres Reyes; es el jejen
del eden.
__!Esther! !Detente! ?Pretendes descreer de El?
__!Efren, temerle es dendblez! !El presente debe ser del Rebelde! El es
terrestre, es el enves del Jefe. De El es es "dejen de depender," ese
"mezclence," ese "besense," ese "deseense." El entender debe extenderse.
__!Esther, se te mete el Rebelde!
__!Emerge Efren!, eres decente. Desprendete de ese telele, es memez de
bedel.
deshereden, le echen del eden, le fleten de res, le llenen de herretes;

__!Esther, Efren, esperenme!... Serenense... Desenredense de ese temple,

excelente jerez... Estrenen el entender rebelde, creen enseres. Eleven

The name choice was a side effect of finding pair of "SHARP EDGES" stickers. I was considering "HERPES" due to all these exposed studs, though...
I adopted Jimmy and Mack a couple weeks before Christmas 10 years ago. Both had colds (feline herpes) which is contagious to other cats so I kept them in our fully furnished basement away from Ella. In addition to their colds, they also both had coccidia, giardia, congestion, conjunctivitis, diarrhea and neither would eat. And if all that wasn't enough, Jimmy also had a urinary tract infection, crystals in his urine and a horrible eye ulcer. During those first couple getting-to-know-you weeks I had to have a spreadsheet to keep track of all their medications and when each needed to be administered.
So, that Christmas season I spent every minute I was home in the basement medicating sick kittens, cleaning up diarrhea and wracking my brain trying to come up with something tasty and smelly enough to tempt them to eat. They were so sick. Since bringing them home I had never seen them play or heard them purr. I was exhausted and questioning whether everything I was putting them through was worth it to them or if euthanasia would be more humane.
One afternoon, I turned off all the lights in the basement except for the tiny lights on a table-top Christmas tree. I laid down on the couch under a downy comforter to look at the pretty lights and just be near my sick kittens. I closed my eyes and was about to fall asleep when I felt Jimmy's little feet walk up along my body until he settled in the crook of my arm and for the first time, started to purr.
In that dark, quiet moment Jimmy was content, I was at peace and we were together. It was perfect.

Teco is still needing medication for his eyes, he has herpesvirus after all. We are waiting for FIV/FeLV results, to see if he will need some extra help fighting this besides the medication on his eye. Off the funnel for now, the les he stresses, the better.
