Nous sommes allées avec une amie dans la réserve naturelle des Grangettes, une journée dans la nature cela fait tant de bien, ce lieu est magnifique et vaut bien une visite, j'y suis allée déjà deux fois ce printemps.

We went with a friend in the nature reserve of Grangettes, a day in the nature that is so good, this place is beautiful and well worth a visit, I have been twice this spring.

Egretta caerulea. Small heron, about 24 inches. Slate blue on the bottom, maroon on the top. Frequents marshes, and swamps. Its found in the southern and eastern costal areas.

A juvenile Heron from the same pond as the Kingfisher, spreading it's wings.

I often see four Nankeen Night-Herons perched high in a tree at Blue Waters Lake Reserve on my walk.

It is that heron in Bushy Park again , still on the lookout for afternoon tea ! It will do anything " fishy " for a fishy .

Wikipedia: The great blue heron (Ardea herodias) is a large wading bird in the heron family Ardeidae, common near the shores of open water and in wetlands over most of North America and Central America, as well as the Caribbean and the Galápagos Islands. It is a rare vagrant to coastal Spain, the Azores, and areas of far southern Europe. An all-white population found in south Florida and the Florida Keys is known as the great white heron. Debate exists about whether this represents a white color morph of the great blue heron, a subspecies of it, or an entirely separate species. The status of white individuals known to occur elsewhere in the Caribbean, and very rarely elsewhere in eastern North America, is unclear.

Conservation status: Least Concern

Well this was quite the sight. This Great Blue Heron flew into the scene here as I was observing the turtles. I thought this might be 'interesting'!

But no, the Heron just looked at the two turtles, and the turtles looked back up at him!

This carried on for about fifteen minutes, until the Heron walked away to look for some more interesting food in the pond!

Eh bien, c'était tout à fait le spectacle. Ce grand héron a volé dans la scène ici pendant que j'observais les tortues. J'ai pensé que cela pourrait être "intéressant"!

Mais non, le Héron a simplement regardé les deux tortues, et les tortues ont regardé vers lui!

Cela a duré environ quinze minutes, jusqu'à ce que le Héron s'en aille chercher de la nourriture plus intéressante dans l'étang!

Bueno, esto fue todo el espectáculo. Este Great Blue Heron voló a la escena aquí mientras observaba a las tortugas. ¡Pensé que esto podría ser 'interesante'!

Pero no, el Heron solo miró a las dos tortugas, ¡y las tortugas volvieron a mirarlo!

Esto continuó durante aproximadamente quince minutos, ¡hasta que Heron se alejó para buscar comida más interesante en el estanque!

A life bird for me. It was reported on eBird a day earlier. Luckily it stuck around another day for me to drop by after work and get some distant photos for ID. There were also Great Blue Heron and a pair of Great Egret available in the vicinity for comparison. This one is a lot slender looking, smaller in size and also has white belly that a Great Blue Heron doesn't. Cell 2, Tommy Thompson Park, Toronto, Ontario

I haven't been able to get out much lately, so here is another Great Blue Heron shot from a recent trip.

Green Herons are common and widespread, but they can be hard to see at first. Whereas larger herons tend to stand prominently in open parts of wetlands, Green Herons tend to be at the edges, in shallow water, or concealed in vegetation. From a distance, the Green Heron is a dark, stocky bird hunched on slender yellow legs at the water’s edge, often hidden behind a tangle of leaves. Seen up close, it is a striking bird with a velvet-green back, rich chestnut body, and a dark cap often raised into a short crest. These small herons crouch patiently to surprise fish with a snatch of their daggerlike bill. They sometimes lure in fish using small items such as twigs or insects as bait.
