The Olympian Hermes by Praxiteles (plaster cast of the head) reflecting the January sun light and thus transforming a Hertfordshire garden.
Hermes, as befits a god, has his own sunbeams which follow him. (this boat bears the name Hermes, build in 1917)
Helios 44M-7 at F11. I have addressed the matter of the colour of dreams in a previous image/posting. Does Hermes (here, a plaster cast replica of the head of the Olympian Hermes) dream of the colours he has lost? The Greek statues of antiquity were frequently painted in radiant colours. They were much more life-like than the classicists of the 18th and 19th centuries made us believe. This plaster cast actually had been painted over by a generation of fine arts students who had used it as a model. Right then! What colour should go first?
That the market is "sacred" and that nothing can be humanly done with regard to the ups and downs of the economic cycle. Is it not the truth that all this is man-made? That someone, positively or negatively, is responsible for this. And that the people must be watchful and kick those someones out who are running the country down. As a god, Hermes, which side are you on? Fuji X-E2 plus Helios 44M-7 at approx. F9.
We do have a tolerant relationship, Hermes and me, but one of the conditions must be upheld: all communication (and incommunication) goes through the camera, god or mortal. It's not always easy for him.

I was surprised by his training on a bicycle in the city at night, but I was also surprised by his well-trained body.

A close-up of the packaged Hermes. I have used this plaster cast copy of the head of the Olympian Hermes for many years as my photographic punching ball. Before that, and for decades, students of drawing have used (and abused) this sculpture. I am in all likelihood continuing the abuse. I have wrapped the image of God. Keeping him warm and alive under a protective aluminium foil? Hiding or even denying his presence? Manipulating, packaging and turning him into a commodity, into a creation of mine? Alternatively, did he die, or even, choose to hide? Coming again like a thief in the night when I won't expect it? Is he closer to me than my jugular? Is the wrapping for my own protection? This is the punching ball, and its reach is not limited to photography.
Taken with the Mitakon Speedmaster 35mm at F0.95, four LED lights (ignore the Exif data). This is a close-up using the widest aperture possible. I am quite happy with the result and believe that the facial expression of the Olympian Hermes (plaster cast) is nicely captured this way.
The original was found at the Villa Papyri in Herculaneum in 1758 and is preserved at the National Archeological Museum in Naples.

Playing with the plaster cast head of the Olympian Hermes and window light. All shots of this series done with the Helios 44M-7 manual lens. Here, at F2.
