Bumped into Herman on a shell covered beach in the Maldives while he was out for a stroll. He told me had just moved into his new house, and had named it Michelle. (yes it's a bad pun sorry ;)

Fun fact: Hermit crabs kept together will fight or kill a competitor to gain access to the shell they like. And I thought the real estate market was tough here!

Happy weekend out there!

This is a statue of Herman, a massive Holstein steer, who lived on the Longstreet Inn property at Amargosa Valley, NV. I met Herman during a trip to Death Valley in 2011. He was huge and seemed to have a gentle nature. During his years at the Inn he grew to over 3,000 lbs and was 6' 4" tall at the shoulder. Herman lived on the property until he died in 2013 at the age of 8.

Eastern Wood Pewee, a member of the family of Flycatchers, seen at Long Point ON during fall migration.

I usually point the cameral to the east and shoot Mt. Shuksan. For this one I looked west. Notice the people enjoying winter in the foreground. The Mountaineers Lodge is located over the bridge and the Mt. Baker Ski Area is to the left. My kids are playing down there somewhere. I hope I find them soon! :-)

Herman Hermit belts out Reveille at a temporarily abandoned drip at Davis Mountains State Park. The staff had curtailed stocking the feeders in an effort to reduce the threat of bird flu. While there was little concentration of birds at the blinds, luckily plenty of birds were still dispersed throughout the park. Hermit Thrush in Jeff Davis County, Texas.

[ENG] The citadel of the Alhambra, located on the hill of al-Sabika, in Granada (Spain), is one of the most important architectural complexes of the Middle Ages and the greatest exponent of Islamic art in the West. Its history begins in the ninth century with military purposes, it was gradually expanding and in the thirteenth century, with the arrival of the first Nasrid monarch Mohamed ben Al-Hamar, the construction of the palaces that marked his time of greatest splendor began. The Alhambra was officially declared a World Heritage Site in 1984. Other pictures in Nasrid palaces.

While METS 3 straddles the side of the dual fuel Pure Car Truck Carrier, as it scrubs the ships engines for heavy participles. The green arms have slowly become a mainstay in the port, as most inbound vessels get a quick scrub before their engine comes back to life for another long journey across the sea. The ship was built by Jinling Shipyard in Nanjing, China in 2023. This LNG dual-fuel PCTC and has included shore power and battery capabilities making it a good fit at the Port of Los Angeles.

Sittin' on the fence post, chewin' my bubblegum, playing with my yo-yo (whoo-whoo,)

And along came Herman the worm, & he was THIS BIG!

And I said, "Herman, baby, what happened?"

This is one of my 4 year old's favorite songs, so when we found this wooly bear caterpillar we just had to name him Herman.
