Hi everyone I recently wrote an article for CBC about how birding has helped me and others during the pandemic and through other difficult times. Please read it here if you are so inclined www.cbc.ca/life/hellospring/how-birdwatching-has-brought-...
The photo above is of a female Red-winged Blackbird.
I bought more blue and purple pansies for my yard. Spring is about a month early, the snow has melted but my flower beds are still frozen. Where I live, the only wild flowers that bloom in the woods are blue anemones.
Pansies are lovely and can withstand the night frosts that we still have. I love them especially the ones in blue-purple tones. Their sweet faces are adorable. My home, Finland.
🎧 Isn’t She Lovely (Stevie Wonder)
The twinkling gaze of this white anemone is irresistible. I can't help but smile back.
My forest, Finland
🎧 Twinkle, twinkle little star ( Baby Rhymes )
The flower beds in my yard are coming to life. Heat and light are a miracle-working force, even for them.
My home, Finland.
🎧Give Me Love ( Give Me Peace on Earth ) ( George Harrison )
This picture looks better on a big screen : )
Joy floods my heart every time I find the first blue anemones of the new spring. My forest, Finland.
🎧 Let’s Stay Together (Al Green)
The first delicate white anemones shyly rise from the cold ground to marvel at the new spring.
My forest is also filled with the sweet song of birds. The new spring has opened its doors wide open, I step inside to marvel too.
Finland.
🎧 Fragile (Norah Jones)
The little pansies have turned their pretty faces towards the light, as have I. Winter has been hard, but now spring has opened its arms and I am walking towards it.
At home, in my yard, Finland.
🎧 Handle With Care (The Travelling Wilburys)
The snow has almost melted from the forests. My flower beds are either frozen or covered in snow, but someone has already seen blue anemones in the forest. I haven't yet. However, I put some pansies, blue lilies and small daffodils in pots outside.
I can't help but think about the few men who lead our common world with their evil, causing completely unnecessary deaths and fears in the developing minds of children and young people.
However, we are all sisters and brothers to each other. In love. All equal.
🎧 We Are Family (Sister Sledge)
There is lots of beauty in the shadows too, on a blue, blue day. My forest, Finland.
🎧Blue Eyes (Elton John)
Pansies once again 💜 now in the warmth and gentle light of spring, who wouldn't glow? I'm glowing too. My yard, Finland.
🎧Bloom ( The Paper Kites )
The spring air, warming after the rain, wraps a little pansy in a soft blanket of mist. In my yard, Finland.
🎧 Misty (Ella Fitzgerald)
The Yoshino cherry tree is regarded as one of the most popular ornamental cherry trees in the world today. Known to be
among the earliest cherry trees to bloom, it has a delicate pendulous habit that graces the landscape with fragrant flowers with a sweet almond scent. The Yoshino cherry (also known as the Japanese flowering cherry) is the darling of the flowering tree world and the star of such renowned events as the National and International Cherry Blossom Festivals.
Thank you very much for your kind comments and visit, much appreciated!
Ok, so Spring may have sprung two days ago and I am just getting to posting something about it today...haha...better late than never. Happy Spring, friends!
Thanks for your visit. I hope you had a fantastic day!
Hello everyone! I had good intentions of sharing this image the 1st day of spring; however, my life has been turned upside down lately.
About a week and a half ago, I was at work and I got a call telling me that my husband Gary was injured badly while at work. He had fallen off a 10 ft ladder and had hit his head and back. Thankfully his head is okay, but his back did not fair out as well. He broke 4 vertebrae (bursting one of them) and he required surgery to repair and stabilize his spine. The surgeon did a spinal decompression and fusion from his T10 vertebrae down to his L3. He did have numbness of his legs (likely caused by the shattered bone fragments touching his spinal cord) but the decompression corrected that.
This accident has certainly been a wake up call. Life is so fragile and not to be taken for granted. His situation could have been so much worse, and I am very thankful it wasn't, even though this has been hard on both of us. I have been stressed and exhausted. While my stress is subsiding, the exhaustion will be there for awhile as more of my time will be taken up to getting things done. My teenage son has been doing alot of the "Dad" jobs at the farm while I have been taking on more at home and once the weather gets warmer I will be busier outside. The outpouring of love and support from our friends and family have been wonderful. We are truly blessed to have such an amazing support system. Gary is home now and is slowly getting better. It will be a long journey for him as he will be off work for several weeks, maybe months, and that will be very hard for him as he is a very active person who can't sit still. We have come to the conclusion that our farming will need to take a sideline this year and we will rent out the land. Those things are not as important as the recovery will be and he knows he needs to focus on that and get his strength back so he get back to what he was like before the accident and doing the activities that he likes doing.
I may not be as active on Flickr but I will be around here and there. Photography is an outlet for me. This image was taken a few weeks ago when I was working on a previous photo challenge. We aren't getting much Spring weather today (more cold temperatures and snow squalls) but we will get there...
I hope everyone is doing well and staying safe and healthy! I look forward to visiting your streams and seeing what you've been sharing. :)
Goodbye cold ,
Goodbye snow ,
Goodbye dark mornings ,
Goodbye storming winter days ,
Goodbye, the flu !
Spring's ahead ... Yay !!!

My upload for a weekly challenge I'm doing with a group of Flickr friends. This week's theme is Spring.
By the end of winter, I'm totally over having washing strung up all over the house to dry. We've already had a few isolated spring-like days when it was just perfect drying weather. Bring it on !!
The last few days of winter are here and it's time to say goodbye. The winter wasn't quite what I had hoped for and expected in terms of the weather but there will always be another. Now I'm really excited about spring and the opportunities it will bring. So goodbye winter and welcome spring! :)
There is a bit of ice in the background in this shot for those who doubt that this in
fact is winter :)

🌼 Spring is making its grand entrance at Parco Talenti! 🌿☀️
Spent last week soaking up the sunshine and strolling through this dreamy field of daisies. Nature really knows how to put on a show, and I’m here for it! 🌸✨
Who else loves a good springtime park walk? 🌳💛

A few days late with my 'spring' photo, but since we haven't actually made it to summer (and there's still some snow left on the ground) I don't feel too badly about my tardiness.
Hope everyone is doing well and staying safe.
