I'm trying to remember to catch the light by looking up more often. In doing so, I caught some morning light behind two rather large oak leaves which pleased my eye. I hope you don't get sick of viewing fall leaves, because I have a "thing" for them!

I’d like to thank everyone for their wonderful messages of support this week - it has been a great comfort to know how much Daisy was loved by our friends here. I’m sure Daisy & all of our precious pets will live on in our memories. Remember the love & fun they gave us even while we mourn their loss. For them, celebrate a happy Caturday.
I love listening to all sorts of music. Whenever I get busy on the computer I'll put these headphones on just to keep me company.
Zelda has a mind of her own at times ....... if she wants to ignore me, she does. She plays hard of hearing at times.....or should I say... selective hearing..... however, say the word "bisquit" and she amazingly gets her hearing and focus back. "Sqeekers from her stuffys always work to get her attention back also.
I used to hear voices a lot, but then I read up on it & found out they don’t exist, so now I don’t listen to a word they say.

After hearing an extra J37 was running, and that they would shove out of the yard to run through Hoffman Yard as opposed to running over Robert Street, we were expecting (moreso hoping) that they would shove far enough out of the yard to get the iconic angle with the skyline. Shoving that far back was unnecessary, but before we had realized that part, 448 had made its presence known with a solo CPKC GEVO.
A momentary lapse in thinking still resulted in getting a train here in good light, even if it is one of the many new post-merger GEVOs that are widely disliked. For an out-of-towner like me, that's good enough.
Kilkenny, Ireland has been here for a thousand years, maybe two thousand. How many people have walked this path in a thousand years?

Information enters through the flesh, i process it behind my eyes, analyze, wanting to transform it into a painting outside its frame, taking it to a whole new level. Everything you said opened wounds, cracked my spine, turned me back to ice, gave me an ocean. Give me a handle too, one inch and i’ll take a mile. I’ll pull weeds from their roots along with my damaged insides and i’ll learn again to make my heart a home I couldn’t find. Your cold was seeping into me and i forgot that i was fire, electricity, high powered defibrillator, a thunderstorm. Healing is slow and monotonous but it’s coming. You can almost hear the wheel slipping and chuffing from here. What a sight for the senses, even though I couldn't hear properly for several minutes after the train passed.
RBMN 425 makes decent work of the stiff grade outside Jim Thorpe as it blasts the sold out Fall Foliage excursion through Nesquehoning Tunnel.

The Short-eared Owl (Asio flammeus) is a highly unique raptor famous for its diurnal (daytime) hunting, moth-like erratic flight, and ground-nesting habits. It is one of the most widely distributed birds on Earth and can be found on every continent except Antarctica and Australia.
Unlike most owls, they frequently hunt in broad daylight, particularly at dawn and dusk. This makes them much easier to spot over open meadows, marshes, and grasslands.
When hunting, they fly low over the ground with slow, floppy, and erratic wingbeats, closely resembling a giant moth.
They have a flat facial disc that acts like a satellite dish to funnel tiny sounds directly into their ears. This allows them to detect the faint rustling of mice and voles beneath thick grass or snow.
They are usually quiet but can get quite noisy during breeding season, often emitting calls that sound surprisingly like a barking dog.
Because they prefer treeless environments like prairies and tundra, they build their nests directly on the ground in shallow, scraped-out hollows concealed by tall grass or reeds.
Unlike birds that return to the exact same spot every year, Short-eared Owls are semi-nomadic. They will travel great distances to settle and breed wherever food (like voles and mice) is most abundant.

Hearing the waves crashing into the raw, barren and volcanic landscape of the eastern Madeira was like music to my ears.
Waking at 4AM to witness the sunrise here, hiking my way to the sunrise spot was so amazing and totally worth it, and ending the sunrise mission with this view was the cherry on top of the cake.
After hearing others speak of the beauty of a Hebridean sunrise, it was something I hoped to be able to view during our holiday on the Isle of Lewis.
Waking in the middle of the night (3:30am), I peered out the window to see a hint of color on the horizon. Donning a robe, grab the camera kit, open the outside door, set up the tripod & camera, begin capturing the sunrise . . . . The image at operating end of camera is left to your imagination :-)
This image is moments before the sun breaks the horizon. This view taken at near high tide is from Carnish on the southern side of Traigh Uige (Uig Beach) located on the western coast of the Isle of Lewis. In the distance, left of center, is Forsnabhal with a communication tower on its summit.
Once the sun began to break the horizon the color in the sky disappeared quickly. It may have been due to the complete lack of clouds this morning.
After hearing about this from Lucas on Friday night, I made the decision on Saturday morning to run out to Salina to photograph this PAIR of UTAH Railway MK50s on the KYLE!
Here, the UTAH 5006 and 5003 are seen heading east on UP's Salina Sub just west of Solomon, KS with the KYLSALI 08. This is the first time that I've photographed any of these leading, and two get not just a pair of them, but ONLY a pair of them was pretty exciting for me. I'm not sure how long these will last, especially in this paint job, so I was happy to make the drive out.

We ended our glorious springy day yesterday in an area full of active beavers. Aside from some videos I hope to share soon, my favorite part of this outing was hearing all the recently returned male redwing blackbirds. Here in Minnesota, their konkarees are a sure sign of waning winter. Notice I did not say the end of winter, as April blizzards are not unheard of here.
Wrens are ground foragers and will turn leafs for food, during the winter Months will visit the bird feeders and the suet pouch for some protein, they are very shy but will allow you to go near them, there are about 80 species known.

After hearing about this awesome 131 the night before, I knew I had to catch this train as the last time I had seen a orange BNSF H2 leading was back in the cold days in March. This was the first time seeing an H2 leading a westbound aswell. Unfortunately tho, the lighting wasn't too much on my side, due to coming in around noon and the clouds filtering the sun. But, the catch was still cool!
