Somehow you know you were in for a treat before you come across this beautiful waterfall. Walking on the path you can’t see the falls. You’re happy when you begin “Hearing The Falls.” When you suddenly come upon this wonderful sight you know the walk was worth the effort in getting here. Get closer still and the air is cooler and you can smell the fresh water. Nature pleases you again. Love the earth. Thanks for viewing my work. Be kind.

Hearing the WestPac heritage unit was leading a Westbound stack, I made the hour drive up to the Blair area to chase it. 1983 is, in my opinion, the best looking heritage motor on-roster so I was glad to get in a good chase in of it
You can almost hear the wheel slipping and chuffing from here. What a sight for the senses, even though I couldn't hear properly for several minutes after the train passed.
RBMN 425 makes decent work of the stiff grade outside Jim Thorpe as it blasts the sold out Fall Foliage excursion through Nesquehoning Tunnel.

Here you see a three-dimensional artwork by Jaume Plensa, who can describe and explain his artworks with philosophical eloquence...
Among other things, it’s about appearances being deceiving and openness toward all people, no matter what they look like or where they come from—and, of course, that you can only truly see with your soul. Thus, his artworks often consist of wire or letters and numbers—all the characters from around the world.
Das Museum Küppersmühle in Duisburg präsentiert die bislang umfassendste Einzelausstellung des renommierten spanischen Bildhauers Jaume Plensa. Zum ersten Mal seit einem Jahrzehnt widmet ihm ein deutsches Museum eine derartige Schau. In der Ausstellung erwarten die Besucher über 50 beeindruckende Skulpturen, eine Auswahl seiner Papierarbeiten sowie eigens für das Museum Küppersmühle geschaffene Wandzeichnungen – eine einzigartige Begegnung mit Plensas kraftvoller poetischer Kunst.
„Meine Arbeit will immer Brücken bauen, Fragen stellen, Schönheit in den Alltag der Menschen bringen; Verbindungen zwischen Menschen schaffen, ohne dass Hautfarbe, Ideologie, Religion oder Geographie eine Rolle spielen.“
Plensa ist international bekannt für seine eindrucksvollen Arbeiten im Öffentlichen Raum, die er seit über 20 Jahren in allen Kontinenten der Welt präsentiert hat. Herausragend war sein Projekt „Secret Garden“ im Sommer 2025 anlässlich der Salzburger Festspiele auf dem Residenzplatz der Stadt. In Deutschland hat er Großskulpturen in Bonn-Bad Godesberg („Laurelle am Bahnhof“, 2024), Frankfurt am Main („Body of Knowledge“, 2010) und Potsdam („Gläserne Seele“, 2000) realisiert. Er ist einer der bedeutendsten universellen Künstler unserer Zeit.
Die Ausstellung im Museum Küppersmühle präsentiert eine große Skulptur im Eingangsbereich des Hauses – „Flora“, 2021 – sowie eine spektakuläre Installation im Siloraum – „Invisible Anna“, 2018: ein großer, transparenter Kopf aus Edelstahlstäben, dessen erhabene Ausstrahlung den Raum beherrscht.
In acht weiteren Räumen wird die formale und inhaltliche Bandbreite der Werke von Jaume Plensa mit Arbeiten aus verschiedensten Materialien anschaulich. Der Künstler arbeitet mit Marmor, Alabaster, Kunststoff, Bronze- und Eisenguss sowie Stahl in verschiedenen Maßstäben.
Anlässlich der Ausstellung erscheint eine außergewöhnliche Publikation im Großformat mit Ausstellungsansichten, einem Interview von Walter Smerling mit dem Künstler und einem Essay von Clemens Setz.
Plensas Werke sind rätselhaft und inspirierend zugleich. Sie laden zur Kontemplation über uns selbst, über Schönheit und Erhabenheit ein. Der Schriftsteller Clemens Setz schliesst seinen Essay für die Publikation zu dieser Ausstellung mit einer konzisen Beobachtung:
„Vor ihnen stehend, bleiben wir allein mit uns selbst, und das nicht eingeschüchtert oder unerfüllt, sondern beschenkt und eigentümlich erhöht.“

After hearing others speak of the beauty of a Hebridean sunrise, it was something I hoped to be able to view during our holiday on the Isle of Lewis.
Waking in the middle of the night (3:30am), I peered out the window to see a hint of color on the horizon. Donning a robe, grab the camera kit, open the outside door, set up the tripod & camera, begin capturing the sunrise . . . . The image at operating end of camera is left to your imagination :-)
This image is moments before the sun breaks the horizon. This view taken at near high tide is from Carnish on the southern side of Traigh Uige (Uig Beach) located on the western coast of the Isle of Lewis. In the distance, left of center, is Forsnabhal with a communication tower on its summit.
Once the sun began to break the horizon the color in the sky disappeared quickly. It may have been due to the complete lack of clouds this morning.
It is incredibly unusual to see St. John’s harbour filled with sea ice like this. It was my first time in my 15 years of working downtown. When I arrived in the morning I saw a little bit of open water but by lunch the harbour was jam packed with large pans and chucks of sea ice. I even managed to see a seal pup. It was all very beautiful and exciting. Yeah, I’m a nerd and ice excites me. I love unusual occurrences like this and ice can be, visually and physically, an incredibly powerful force.
I’m snowed in today and I’m hearing rumours that Wednesday may be a snow day as well. I’m seeing everyone is posting images of spring but I’m happily hanging on to winter.
After hearing hundreds, catching a glimpse of dozens I finally managed to get my first chiffchaff shot of the year. Taken in the margins of Brackenwood Golf Course.
Hearing some rumblings that the B&O CPL signals on the Toledo Sub might be replaced I spend some time on the sub on March 11, 2024, starting here in Deshler where we see train M559 coming around the connection to start the trip south. M559 is a Willard to Queensgate 'local' that works Lima and Hamilton en route. The B&O CPL signals were designed in the 1920's to replace the functions of the mechanical semaphores that preceded them. They improved on other position light variants by adding color and having dwarf signals that exactly mimicked the signal mast versions. I found one reference claiming that the first ones installed were on the B&O around Deshler. All the mainline signals at Deshler were replaced years ago but there are still quite a few on the Toledo Sub south of town.

It was a nice night to be out shooting today. I love the end of the day as the sun sets and the colors get rich. It was pleasant sitting by the pond hearing the crickets sing and an occassional bird call.
Hearing that CN's M338 had a couple of KCS units for power I went to an overused photo location to see if I could catch the eastbound with afternoon lighting.

I've been feeling so great lately, too bad the weather really isn't mirroring my emotions.
Once it gets tollerable outside I'll go find a new place to shoot, but until then, it's inside and layering.
For the past few days I've been helping my boyfriend, Josh, re-paint and re-decorate his bedroom. I've been a cleaning freak.
It's just about done, and I can't wait for him to get home and see the almost finished product!
I'm sorry to all of you that I completely disappeared on.
I know there was really no warning... I just left, but now I'm back to re-kindle all of the friendships I've made on Flickr and to make more, so just hit me up a message, I love talking about pretty much anything :)
I don't know what they're teaching the new conductors down in McDonough, but the new hires for a little bit were calling signals weird, like the trainee was doing here at Sewell & other control points.
Anyways, the Annual Meeting of the East End Squatters Club (iykyk; thanks Kyle) occured here because for 2022 standards, this was a good one, especially for us east of the Mississippi. NS 153 is seen east of Bremen, GA with a pair H1 paint Dash 9's on the point. There were a number of these making their way through the southeast in the spring of 2022 after a number were brought out of storage by BNSF earlier in the year, with many going to NS to pay off horsepower-hour debts, including this paired duo. Upon hearing that the duo got put on the point of 153, this naturally caused a stir with the Atlanta & Birmingham railfans & lead to a number of them coming out on this Saturday to document their trip down the East End. 5-7-22
