533 yards (487 m) on the very popular Monsal Trail.

This tunnel is on the former Manchester, Buxton, Matlock and Midland Junction Railway which is now the 'rails-to-trails' Monsal Trail route.

The ominously-named Headstone Tunnel (1863) in Monsal Dale, Derbyshire, UK is an abandoned 490 metre railway tunnel beneath Monsal Head. Since 2011 It has formed part of a cycle trail and footpath through the Peak District National Park.

Took a guided tour of the Common Burying Ground in Newport, RI with a couple of photographer friends and others who were interested in the history of colonial Newport.

The burying ground was established in 1665 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Hats off to our guide, Lew who gave us a well documented history lesson!

This image is my photographic take away.

There is a ruined church near Hainford with a very overgrown graveyard with lots of crosses and headstones with have been almost completely covered by vegetation mostly stinging nettles and thorn bushes which makes it very difficult to wander about in!

Monsal Trail, Peak District

Last minute day out with Miss C, last one before she's let loose on the nations railway system, so quite possibly the last one :-)

We were going to head to the Lake District but after both having a busy weekend went for the easier option.

Definitely a location for another visit in the autumn.....

On a serious note good luck in the new job Emma!

What a place! The mixed weather certainly made for some heavy contrasts here. To me, the large boulder in the top right of the frame looks to have a face, hence the title. I imagine my face might look somewhat similar following a few hundred years or so of being blasted by the Scottish weather!

As always, thanks in advance for any comments or favourites you may wish to make.

Any trip up the single track road to the Quiraing on Skye takes you past the Burial Ground at Balmeanach. On my way back dawn after a dawn visit I stopped to take moment to contemplate the final resting place for the local hardy folk.

The setting is memorable in many ways. Not least the setting beneath the looming escarpment of the Trotternish ridge. The mighty faces of Cleat and Bioda Buidhe providing such a dramatic backdrop in the early autumnal light.

A 533 yard tunnel which was part of the Hassop to Buxton railway line, which in turn was part of the London to Manchester line. Opened in 1863, and closed by Beeching in 1968 barely 100 years later. Now part of the Monsal Trail, a wonderful cycling route from Bakewell to (almost) Buxton.

Every location has it's plantlife. Had to explain to Phill and Tim about the story of "The Enormous Turnip" consider it an education in fairy tales!

...towards Hollow Meadows, across Rivelin Valley.

The Heather & Bracken have been selectively burned off & replaced with new Heather. It looks as though ponds have also been created as I don't remember seeing any on previous visits.
