Black and white gives so much more freedom in photography. It's not how you see in real life so you can take more artistic freedom in how you process and what you want to tell with your photo. People will have less expectations on how something in the photo should look.

I felt like this photo brings back the feel of the past. Obviously it's not how people experienced the time period, but I like to think this place could have looked like this back when cameras didn't have color and I wasn't even alive - that's how this photo brings back the feel of the past for me.

For this week’s Macro Mondays ‘Souvenir’ theme, I have chosen to photograph a Swarovski Crystal Hedgehog; a souvenir from a trip to Austria (a few years ago now) where their headquarters are located.

From Crystal Fanatics: The (Swarovski) Block SC Logo was originally used on the Silver Crystal product line. The Block logo is the letter C with the letter S inside the C; it was used from 1976 to 1988. The logo signifies authenticity and tells you the piece was produced during those particular years.

A simple set up this week after the headache of last weeks shot: one Bowens studio strobe, with the light directed on to the crystal Hedgehog. Post processing in Photoshop and Lightroom CC as usual.
