The backside of the Beelink SER5 mini pc, all I need in a 4.5 inch square or 12.5 centimeters. Power cord, HDMI cable, and USB cable connected up for entertainment tonight. AMD Ryzen 7, M.2 1 TB, 32 GB memory, 8 TB SSD, that is crazy to get all that in such a small body.

HMM!

An HDMI cable connector in this week's theme color with matching Velcro strap. The cable itself is an older style, not meeting current specifications. It was part of cable kits I made for film-festival use back when the events had programming on DVDs and Blu-ray Discs, a practice rendered obsolete now that programming exclusively consists of Digital Cinema Package files edited together to create a single program.

The cable color, one of a variety of available colors, was for circuit identification. I settled on green Velcro straps to identify my cables, in addition to keeping them neatly coiled.

Two inoperative USB-C multiport display adaptors, once used to connect laptop computers to projectors until some imperfection caused both to fail and the one on the left to fall apart, making the delicate circuitry vulnerable to further damage. I pried the faceplate off on the other one just to compare its innards (for the record, both circuit boards have components on both sides, an amazing design feat.)

The possibility of losing this competition simply does not compute to me. While the seed part isn’t the most compatible this computer supports every input you need!

My second build for Iron Forge 2026 round 3. The seed part is the motor thingy piece. There are two in this MOC taking advantage of the intakes similar shape to an HDMI port.

Not entirely happy with presentation and the integration of editing on the frog photo but I'm learning. I did manage to sneak in a piece from one of my top scoring MOCs last year!

I was a first adopter when I purchased this HDMI cable 30 (?) years ago as the latest and most advanced audio/video gear on the planet. I finally found another use for this VERY EXPENSIVE "must have". After sitting in my basement for 20 years and having been moved twice, once across an international border, this cable has been reinvented as a perfect techno stand in for a Techno Aspe.

#Macro #PlugsandJacks #MacroMonday

I hate liquorice, but when my new flat HDMI cable arrived, it reminded me of those wheels straight away!

OK, even $37 seems a bit steep these days for an HDMI cable! This leads us to hhgregg issue #75: they simply couldn't compete with everyone else on a lot of their prices, which in all fairness was probably what helped to do in others like the aforementioned Circuit City, Radio Shack and Campo (anyone remember Campo Electronics!?) as well.

When you are into technology as much as me, sometimes you gotta burn some money on basic infrastructure. $200 in cables, and I had to order another $100 not too long after this. Issues being addressed: Redundant ethernet cables to each computer, USB2 to USB3 upgrade (have since bought yet another USB hub to increase my computer to 23 USB ports), increased electric guitar roaming, blacklight computer cables, crowded electrical outlets, free monitor missing cables, running out of places to put guitars (I later bought 15 more guitar wall mounts).

A simple circuit with simple firmware, but it allows better remote control of existing systems. In this case, I took an old working HDMI switch and added an Arduino and xbee front-end to it. When you tell the arduino to change ports, the arduino uses the IR.h library to send actual IR over a short length of wire (from that 3pin white molex connect on the left) into the modified switch box. Inside the box is the IR sender led and an IR receiver, optically linked (fancy words for: heat-shrinked tubing joining them, lol).

I taught the arduino the IR codes for this HDMI switch since I had its original 3-button remote. I used IR.h in receive mode to learn the hex longwords for those buttons. Then, I transferred the longword literal values to program code in the arduino. The arduino can then select an hdmi input port by program control.

Final step was to create an 'AT command' to read and write (control) the hdmi switch. I used the same format of xbee ascii command I've been using and added 'hi' for hdmi-input to the protocol.

By using my RF remote - that NOW knows about HDMI switches - I can get the current port and change it, as needed, from any room in the house.

Testing out the IKAN VX9 HDMI monitor with a Canon 7D and Sony Betacam. Really nice features on this monitor especially when shooting DSLR video.

I shot a video demonstrating how the VX9 works with my Canon 7D. See it here:
