HBT!

Long before BN and Santa Fe merged they ran together on Houston Belt & Terminal track in Houston. Here we have a BN manifest headed south, probably to Galveston, and Santa Fe light power that had just come out of the Milby St engine facility behind me. The HB&T had somewhat of a 'D' shape and this is on the vertical part of that D that ran from Belt Line Junction on the north side to New South Yard on the south side. The curved part of the D went east at Belt Line Junction curved down by the port through Basin St yard and rejoined the vertical just north of New South Yard. Milby St roundhouse was one of my regular afternoon Houston tour stops. December 11, 1979

Two days to go....I am getting giddy ....and my hubby is coming back from work a day early so we can do our final photo together :-)

It has been a very rainy day!

Taken for ODC song - there are so many I can choose from with rain in the lyrics but I like this one- tears and rain by James Blunt.

IAIS 519 leading the morning SIBI East under Briggs St in Joliet, IL. This morning’s consist didn’t only feature the newest unit on the fleet. Third out was NREX 3, which is an original HBT SW1200 built in 1966. That was a nice little surprise! This morning’s SIBI made great time on Metra trackage from Joliet to Robbins.

After an event for UP employees at Settegast Yard in northeast Houston, the Big Boy headed out to prepare for public display at the Amtrak Station the following day. Due to the complicated nature of the route back to the Amtrak depot, UP opted to just have 4014 shove backwards for nearly the entire route.

Here, UP 4014 shoves out the north end of Settegast Yard at HBT Jct.

I took this photo with my small Nikon Coolpix L110 a while ago. I like playing with it occasionally to see how it compares to my big cameras. I really liked the way the moon looked behind these limbs. Not bad for a point and shoot.

The Houston Belt & Terminal connected with all the Class 1 railroads in Houston. Ownership was shared across all of them. For Switcher Sunday here are 2 SW1500's bought new from EMD on the same order in 1971. The 54 shown here at New South Yard still wears it's as-delivered black with large lettering livery. B 1980 most of the roster had been repainted into an industrial yellow scheme. April 11, 1980.

At first, I thought they were chilies. But I haven't seen purple colored chilies ... so I have no idea.

Two of these went by and I only got a photo of the second one. Unfortunately it was the same bus I saw earlier in the day, so I could've done with them coming the other way around.

Breaking up the St. Louis monotony a bit, here's Houston Belt & Terminal SW9 #24 parked at its Milby Street facility in Houston, TX. That's MP15DC #60 hiding behind it. One of my few half-decent shots of this local road; and it seems nothing ever moved on a Saturday.

Forget me nots - Leeds Castle, Kent, England - Sunday June 22nd 2008.

Who says Bokeh is just for Wednesday's lol....HBT everybody...(That's Happy Bokeh Thursday)...lol...:O))))

Myosotis is a genus of flowering plants in the family Boraginaceae that are commonly called Forget-me-nots.

There are about fifty species in the genus, with considerable variation. A considerable number of the species have small (1 cm diameter or less) rather flat 5-petalled blue flower growing profusely on straggly stems, flowering in spring. Colour variation is somewhat frequent within species, and white or pink forms are common. They are popular in gardens, and cultivated forms often show a mixture of colours. Forget-me-nots prefer shade.

Forget-me-nots can be annual or perennial plants. Their root systems are generally diffuse. Their seeds are found in small, tulip shaped pods along the stem to the flower. The pods attach to clothing when brushed against and eventually fall off, leaving the small seed within to germinate elsewhere. Seeds can be collected by putting a piece of paper under the stems and shaking them. The seed pods and some seeds will fall out.

They are widely distributed. Most Myosotis species are endemic to New Zealand, though one or two European species, especially the Wood Forget-me-not, Myosotis sylvatica have been introduced in most of the temperate regions of Europe, Asia and America. Myosotis scorpioides is also known as scorpion grass.

In the United States of America, Myosotis alpestris is the state flower of Alaska. Forget-me-nots are used as food plants by the larvae of some Lepidoptera species including Setaceous Hebrew Character.

The name was borrowed from Old French "ne m'oubliez pas" and first used in English in c.1532. Loans and translations of it can be found in most European and some non-European languages, like German "Vergissmeinnicht", Italian "Nontiscordardimé", Polish "Niezapominajka", Slovak "Nezábudky", Danish "Forglem-mig-ej", Icelandic "Gleym-mér-ei", Swedish "Förgätmigej", Dutch "vergeet-mij-nietje", Spanish "no-me-olvides", Russian "Незабудки", Bulgarian “Незабравки”, Lithuanian "Neužmirštuolės", Greek "Μη με λησμονείς" (also connected to the people who died during the 1974 Turkish invasion of Cyprus), Esperanto "neforgesumino", Chinese "勿忘草" (Mandarin: wù wàng cǎo), Korean "물망초" (勿忘草, mul mang cho), Japanese "勿忘草" (Wasurenagusa), Hebrew "זכריני" (Zichrini), Hungarian "Nefelejcs", Turkish "Unutma Beni", Albanian "Lule-mos-me-harro", Czech "Pomněnka" etc.

In the 15th century Germany, it was supposed that the wearers of the flower would not be forgotten by their lovers.

Legend has it that in medieval times, a knight and his lady were walking along the side of a river. He picked a posy of flowers, but because of the weight of his armour he fell into the river. As he was drowning he threw the posy to his loved one and shouted "Forget-me-not". This is a flower connected with romance and tragic fate. It was often worn by ladies as a sign of faithfulness and enduring love.

It is also told in pious legend that the Christ Child was sitting on Mary's lap one day and said that he wished that future generations could see her eyes. He touched her eyes and then waved his hand over the ground and blue forget-me-nots appeared, hence the name forget-me-not.
