CHARMING little reedbed specialist has a rather compact, rounded body and a proportionately very long tail. The distinctive call has earned the species the affectionate nickname of "pinger" which utters a diagnostic, high-pitched ping call.. Was overjoyed to get this chance encounter at Oare Marshes in Kent of a male, as I normally only see the female or juveniles, a bit of a nemesis bird for me.

* It has been four years since I have the opportunity to photograph a Starling murmuration .This was taken from almost the same place I took some shots in 2019 .This year the event took place inland over the Far Inns nature reserve . The images from the murmuration in 2019 were over the River Humber. Impossible to speculate how many Starlings were involved the RSPB site says it can be up to 100,000.
Despite the incredible size of the flocks, starling numbers are just a fraction of what they used to be. The starling population has fallen by more than 80 per cent in recent years, meaning they are now on the critical list of UK birds most at risk.
The decline is believed to be due to the loss of permanent pasture, increased use of farm chemicals and a shortage of food and nesting sites in many parts of the UK.

I has a visit today, from all ten Ducklings that recently hatched near by! This picture reminds me of the old song, ten green bottles hanging on the wall! lol!
Human pollution has affected the behavior of the American white ibis via an increase in the concentrations of methylmercury, which is released into the environment from untreated waste. Exposure to methylmercury alters the hormone levels of American white ibis, affecting their mating and nesting behavior and leading to lower reproduction rates.
The smallest of three brothers and the last surviving brother, whilst he is full of battle scars, he has oodles of presence! Early morning is interesting as he and Kasanga have quite the roaring conversation!!

August has been going by so quickly for me - my day job continues to be busy, and the Great Salt Lake continues to be covered with smoke from massive fires burning in California and Oregon.
This shot is from July before the wildfire smoke - my heart goes out to all those who are have been impacted by those fires.

European Buzzard [Buteo buteo]
This youngster has been flying around my hill with his mum, for the past few weeks. They call to each other as, I assume, she is showing him how to hunt.
Here, he was sitting on a telegraph post, continually calling for his mum, who was very conspicuous in her absence. Maybe she had gone hunting by herself - or maybe she thought the time had come to loosen the apron strings and let junior get on with it by himself. Such a sad, sad sight. He was was still there, hours later, as I was returning home.
Poor wee soul!

And another week has passed. And it's flower greeting day again. And again it's poppies and this will go, for those who don't like poppies, a bit further that way.
If you've already wondered how I came up with this somewhat unusual title, I'd like to answer that.
Looking at the picture for quite a while, I have the feeling that the flowers are moving, dancing around each other like red and blue butterflies. The first time I didn't think anything of it. However, since this effect sets in every time after a short while, it seems to be due to the photo, even if it may happen only to me.
In keeping with this, I wish you all a magical week.
Und schon ist wieder eine Woche vorbei. Und schon ist wieder Blumen-Gruß-Tag. Und wieder sind es Mohnblumen und das wird, für alle die keine Mohnblumen mögen, noch ein Stück so weiter gehen.
Falls Ihr Euch schon gefragt habt, wie ich auf diesen etwas ungewöhnlichen Titel gekommen bin, möchte ich das gern beantworten.
Wenn ich das Bild für längere Zeit betrachte, habe ich das Gefühl, dass sich die Blüten bewegen, dass sie wie rote und blaue Schmetterlinge um einander herum tanzen. Beim ersten Mal dachte ich mir noch nichts dabei. Da dieser Effekt jedoch jedes Mal nach kurzen Weile einsetzt, scheint es doch an dem Foto zu liegen, auch wenn es möglichweise nur mir so geht.
Passend dazu wünsche ich Euch allen eine zauberhafte Woche.

Vancouver has hit the rainy season and all that mist up in the mountains makes for dreary days. A bit of colour still hangs on in the leaves of some of the trees. A crow on one of the branches seems to survey the scene. They come to our balcony now and beg for peanuts! Smart birds!
Mom has been gone a few years but she always grew peonys along the side yard. Recently, while in Kentucky they started blooming and this is one of them. I know she would be proud of her flowers!!!

The year has gone so fast (at least for me) and now as autumn sets in, I start to miss spring when all the blossoms are out and the freshness of a new season is so exhilarating. I came across this in all my photos and dedicate it to my favorite season gone too soon! Thanks for your faves and comments!
Winter has shown up in our area now with temperatures below zero, frozen lakes and beautiful sunshine. Compared tor the last months with rain, clouds and shades of grey this is a significant improvement. Dear winter, we love you. But please do not stay too long and give way to spring. Great Crested Grebe - Podiceps Cristatus
The great crested grebe has an elaborate mating display. Like all grebes, it nests on the water's edge, since its legs are set relatively far back and it is thus unable to walk very well. Usually two eggs are laid, and the fluffy, striped young grebes are often carried on the adult's back. In a clutch of two or more hatchlings, male and female grebes will each identify their 'favourites', which they alone will care for and teach
Unusually, young grebes are capable of swimming and diving almost at hatching. The adults teach these skills to their young by carrying them on their back and diving, leaving the chicks to float on the surface; they then re-emerge a few feet away so that the chicks may swim back onto them.
The great crested grebe feeds mainly on fish, but also small crustaceans, insects small frogs and newts.
This species was hunted almost to extinction in the United Kingdom in the 19th century for its head plumes, which were used to decorate hats and ladies' undergarments. The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds was set up to help protect this species, which is again a common sight.
The great crested grebe and its behaviour was the subject of one of the landmark publications in avian ethology: Julian Huxley's 1914 paper on The Courtship‐habits of the Great Crested Grebe (Podiceps cristatus).

My husband has enjoyed MacroMondays for as many years as I have. He asks the theme and then heads for his computer man cave or garage work space and brings me little tools.
This is a grouping of something called round stock in metric sizes with a twine wrap to keep them together. When in a tight circle they measure about 1 inch/ 2.54cm, but I couldn't quite figure out how to stand them to capture that tight circle. Someday...

Leider hat diese Aufnahme nicht die gute Qualität der vorherigen. Ich war nicht auf den Unterschied eingestellt und habe mich mit der Belichtung verschätzt.
Auch mit sorgfältiger Bearbeitung ist das Rauschen (zumindest auf größeren Bildschirmen) nicht unsichtbar zu machen.
Aber irgendwie gehört diese Aufnahme zur vorigen dazu.
