The Jacobite Express or more famously known as the Hogwarts Express runs from Fort William to Mallaig. Described as one of the great railway journeys of the world this 84 mile round trip takes you past a list of impressive extremes.
Starting near the highest mountain in Britain, Ben Nevis, it visits Britain's most westerly mainland railway station, Arisaig; passes close by the deepest freshwater loch in Britain, Loch Morar and the shortest river in Britain, River Morar, finally arriving next to the deepest seawater loch in Europe, Loch Nevis!

It just started to rain before the train came, so some rain drops can be seen against the black paint of the loco.
Our house actually has a miniature of the Hogwarts Express winding around our (real, for once!) Christmas tree. My dad just recently started obsessing over trains, and, well, being the Harry Potter freak I am, I told him to get the Hogwarts Express. It was on super-sale. :D
The famous JACOBITE steam train pictured here in the pretty mountain scenery near Morar on the West Highland railway close to its destination at Mallaig in Scotland. This is the first train of the day - the 10.15 from Fort William. The steam locomotive is a William Stanier designed ex-LMS 4-6-0 Class 5MT "Black 5" 45231 Sherwood Forester in British Railways livery. It is climbing at this point before the steep drop down into Mallaig about two miles north of here. The locomotive was missing The Jacobite headboard.
Stanier Black Five 44871 with the Jacobite steam train in Scotland. It is pictured here leaving the village of Morar on the West Highland line, a few miles south of the destination of Mallaig. This railway was made world famous by Harry Potter. The Jacobite train is the second of the day - the 2.40 p.m. steam train from Fort William on June 11th when the sun made a brief appearance as the train went past my camera! I was standing with two other photographers at this spot, including a German enthusiast who had traveled from Munich to see The Jacobite.
