small hand saw from garage...reflection over black glass and water...

Taken for the Macro Mondays theme of zig zag. This is a very small section of a hand saw. HMM!

The Montserrat religious shrine is a large complex surrounded on three sides by massive rock pillars with a shear drop off the east side. The monastery is directly ahead in this view with the Virgin of Montserrat sanctuary to the immediate right. Within the complex are gift shops, a library, a cafeteria, an audio-visual show, a museum, a visitor center, and a train station for the cog railroad that brings you up from the valley below. There are expansive vistas within a short walk and other points of interest.

Montserrat (Catalan pronunciation: [munsəˈrat]) is a multi-peaked mountain range near Barcelona, in Catalonia, Spain. It is part of the Catalan Pre-Coastal Range. The main peaks are Sant Jeroni (1,236 m), Montgrós (1,120 m) and Les Agulles (903 m). The Benedictine monastery, Santa Maria de Montserrat, is on top of the mountain. It hosts the Virgin of Montserrat sanctuary which is also known as La Moreneta ("the little tan/dark one" in Catalan). "Montserrat" literally means "serrated (like the common handsaw) mountain" in Catalan. It describes its peculiar aspect with a multitude of rock formations that are visible from a great distance. The mountain is composed of strikingly pink conglomerate, a form of sedimentary rock. Montserrat was designated as a National Park in 1987.

The rock formations of Montserrat were Antoni Gaudí's inspiration for his design of La Sagrada Familia, it's evident that the spires of his masterpiece echo the chimney formations such as this. Montserrat is the most important religious site in the Catalonian region if not in all of Spain. Today, the Montserrat mountain range is also a favorite recreation area for the people of Barcelona and Catalonia.

I call this bottom part of the house "the office" but it is no such thing, rather a space in which to dry flowers, make minor repairs or replacement parts; store garden fertilizers, rat poison and fungicides; hang some tools and store paints; cellar some wines and cure the garlic (a bad year for the garlic). It is a repository of a different quality to the drawers and cupboards in other parts of the house. Sometimes I consider some of the things in here - like my grandfather's 80 year-old Birmingham steel machete passed-down, or my plastic-handled Swedish handsaw of 35 years, or some of the old and unwanted prints on the walls - and imagine them all being thrown into a dumpster at some point in the future at which I am no longer able to convincingly insist that I care for them.

On each visit to HInton Ampner, I always like to see how the resident scarecrow and his dog are getting on. This time I found the dog barely able to see because of nasturtiums encroaching on his face and the scarecrow looked as if he had 6 months' growth of beard on HIS face.

As usual, however, they made a colourful sight and the scarecrow looked to have another small dog on his lap, a bit difficult to see exactly.

And if you are now questioning my sanity, remember Hamlet's anguished plea:

'I am but mad nor-nor-west. When the wind is southerly, I know a hawk from a handsaw. I'm only crazy sometimes. At other times, I know what's what.'

Shakespeare Act 2 Scene 2

I am no Shakespeare scholar but some words just stay in my mind.

In one of those moods again.

Holy hell I am beat. Today me and my buddy Micah drove 4 hours round trip on pavement, 1 hr 30 minutes round trip on dirt, and walked four miles total - All for one photo. I might be crazy, but I'd say it was worth it.

George Pitarys shot this frame with MLWs back in the day and I knew it would still be possible in the modern age with a little bit of elbow grease. A ridiculously early arrival with nothing more than lunch, a handsaw, and pride found us at the Boston Ranch rock cut with quite the task. We wanted to shoot from either side of the cut and there were so many trees we didn't know where to begin.

We cleared Micah's shot first, as he cut the trees and I moved them clear into the woods. That was the easy part. Afterwards, I climbed up to my side of the cut that I wanted to shoot from and found a wall of trees that needed removal, a rough estimate of 30 or so. From 30 ft tall birch trees to 5-15 ft tall pines, there was one hell of a cut to be made. The saw was not up to task as it broke three separate times, and by the time I was almost done cutting my side it was down to a 1/4 of the length the blade originally was. We persevered however, with me occasionally calling my buddy over to pull a tree down for me or help shove one down the side. After roughly two hours, both sides were clear for a photo.

It isn't as clear around the curve as it was back in the day, and the power is nowhere near as cool as it once was, but the photo location has been restored. It's a large undertaking to get out here, even without having 2 hours of landscaping to do, but I hope to return in the future to take more photos here. In this shot, CPKC 120 glides past Holeb Pond on a sunny autumn day, just a few hours prior to the time that I'm posting this.

I don't use a hand saw very often....

I remembered my poor handsaw left outside for weeks. It had served me well.

Macro Mondays -- theme: zodiac

Born in late January, I was inspired by the astrological zigzag symbol for Aquarius. I stacked a couple handsaws and shot 'em close. (How close? Well, they've got 10 teeth per inch.)

Stumbled across this photo. I was shirtless because we had an old cast iron kerosene stove heating the room about a foot behind me. This year maybe 84, I couldn't afford a Christmas tree so went over to my local state park with a handsaw and cut my own. Had no decorations so popped some popcorn and strung it on a thread. Cut paper decorations. My friend Roy gave me a string of electric lights. Can't get much better than that.

Hope the statute of limitations for pine tree extraction has passed.

My late mother-in-law painted things on plates, spoons, saw blades and hand saws. We have one of her handsaws hanging in our living room. Yesterday, Mike's step dad gave me a plate that she painted in 2005 to take home. Tomorrow, I will post an image of the the plate with a ruler to show just how small the two skaters are here.

Taken with a Canon FD 50mm 1.8 lens on reverse macro ring.

I want to thank each and everyone who took the time to visit my little space here on Flickr and perhaps gave a like or a comment on my image.

A close up of the teeth on a hand saw blade. I love how you can see that they alternate in direction. I like that I achieved warm and cool bokeh with 2 different lights on the background.

Looking for the dawn of aquarius, symbolically & zigzaggedly... you know, all the dimensions.

巨大オブジェ (Handsaw Art Object)

A sharp saw almost does the job itself as it sinks through the wood. If the sawing takes a lot of energy and does not get any faster, the teeth are blunt and it's time for 'sharpening' with a file. If the saw initially slides through the wood but soon gets stuck in the saw cut, there is a problem with the 'setting'. The teeth of a saw should alternately project slightly to the left and to the right, so that the saw cut they make in the wood is wider than the thickness of the saw blade. In this way the blade is given enough space when sawing. The bending of the teeth is called 'putting' (see tips); it is much less often needed than sharpening

About this garden

It was not my intention to start a garden here at all. Initially, I just thought a couple plants would complement my art display nicely. I manufacture and sell wire-art figurines along this stretch for years. See Instagram (god_of_wire).

However, the amount of interest generated by the few plants I had at the time, caused me to bring more. This in turn sparked more interest, and things pleasantly spiralled. I had at the same time endeavoured to clear this then unused spot of tonnes of smelly, unsightly garbage and debris. The result of the accumulation of river swash deposits, and many years of neglect. It had been an absolute eyesore.

I embarked on a massive clean up; obtaining tools like shovel, rake, handsaw, large boxes, bin bags, gloves, facemasks and disinfectant. My attempts to contact the local Hammersmith authority for help had been unsuccessful. I am thankful for the group of litter pickers who come once or twice monthly to remove plastic and other environmental waste from the shoreline. But the brunt of the work however, fell squarely on my shoulders and so too the added expense. The cost of plants, pots, compost, seeds, laundry etc. It was tough going in the beginning, and I will concede, I had had no clear plan in mind, 'Bloomtide' kind of evolved mystically and the pieces of the jigsaw came together.

This garden in now in its second year and I, like so many am truly thrilled at a truly marvellous outcome. There is still lots to do as I aim to take it to another level. No one knows what the future will bring, but I'm positive that things will continue to be bright, even through cold dark days. I relish the link I have with nature, the connection with the community, and the fact that I now have a focus. The overwhelming moral support from residents and visitors who appreciate my efforts, is proof I am going in the right direction.

To be very honest, I know very little about flowers and the likes, and for most of my life thought that only women or specialists could establish flower gardens. I am learning as I go along, but realize what plants need most is good earth, water and consistent love and care. I closely monitor the development in each specimen, so too the effects of the weather, and influence of different soil types. It was out of sheer necessity that I started using the Thames River muck, or alluvial material as soil, which in most cases works remarkably well.

Otherwise, the Thames River water is the only reliable source available. I welcome rain whenever it happens. I just wish that more persons would experience the benefits of a relationship with nature as I have. It is highly therapeutic, and creates a unique bond between the plant and carer, who is empowered with the responsibility of the its' wellbeing and survival. In turn, this individual benefits from the energy and blessings that nature is sending his way.

I sometimes like to have music playing in the background, or total silence in the early morn. I now employ creative stimuli to enhance the aesthetic appeal of the overall production. This garden is influenced by and relies to a great extend on the tide, hence the name 'Bloomtide'.

A question perpetually asked by passers-by is how high does the water come?

Actually this fluctuates, and depends on tidal influences, the effects of heavenly bodies like the sun the moon and stars, the seasons, the equinox, the time of day, etc, sometimes I am standing knee high in water. I have become creative in my terracing to scale down the effect. Hightide, varies from day to day. Some days there are two, some days none. And in drought I have to work even harder to draw water to wet the plants. 'Bloomtide' is so far proving a success story. A garden oasis and therapeutic space within West London's dense urban metropolis. I think it exemplifies the positive influence an individual can have on an entire community.

Anyone who wants to share tips on gardening or resources can feel free to contact me directly. Heaven knows what can be accomplished with a little more help, or how much further far we can go. The contribution I'm presently receiving from the public is helping in a big way. I'd say 'Bloomtide' is truly a community garden sustained by the community with potential to even further impact on wider society.

Many thanks for your help and I welcome you to play an even bigger part of this initiative.

Thank you kindly

What do you call a group of saws? Why, a 'see', of course. That is kind of a lame attempt at humour, that will only be understood by a select few that know what a seesaw is, and about 0.01 of 1% of you that get it, will find funny. To be honest, my heart really wasn't in this saw shoot, but, it was time to fish or cut wood.

A candid street photo of a busker who persorms in the street. He uses a handsaw and a bow to produce music. Creativity knows no limits.

Well back in freezing grey England but at least I had a week in Spain to remind me that light and sun exist somewhere Actually in Spain it was cooler than normal you can see a little ice on this picture mind you we were close to the mountains summit. At the coast it was possible to lunch outside on fresh fish and white wine. Perfect.

Intro

Director Tom Holland killed me after few minutes in a first movie

A film about my human life would make Chucky’s saga very groovy

Charles Lee Ray deserves a chance like Joker got in Hollywood

Maybe one day my biographical script will resurrect in Bollywood

Don Mancini in a screenplay Child's Play didn’t have enough balls

My life is much more than the gory story about crappy doll

* A plot one year before Charles (Chucky) was shot by policeman...

Little old me had a great life in Nevada in a city Reno

I worked in Italian nightclub & Casino as a bouncer

I had free booze, food and I watched sexy striptease dancers

Finally I had a dream job, it was simply the best

Million times I beat with punks

All night without getting arrest

At work I met famous harlot

Her name was Charlotte

In a locker room we fucked a lot

She was the most desirable pussy for rent

Miss harlot never charged me a single cent

Stories were circulating that one rich businessman from China

Was crazy about her vagina, in the end he impoverished

Because Charlotte was a greedy bitch

Many customers often waited in a line

She chose always wealth one like Richie Rich

Who can pay her a fortune and buy her expensive wine

This life sounds too good to be true…

One night I become totally insane out of the blue

I had hectoliters of whiskey in my blood

Holy fuck I forgot I also smoked a lot of crack

Personally I don’t remember a shit, but according to witnesses

I was pissed off because D.J. played Madonna’s hit Papa don’t preach

Chucky shouted to cloddish D.J. Stop! Give me that stupid cassette

I will cut it like a peach, I'm gonna teach you a lesson

I hate pop music! Cut the crap, stop with boring music, are you handicap?

My life is Rock 'n' Roll it is a balm for my soul

Bouncer smashed music equipment Pioneer

People screamed they were in fear

In a mass fight lunatic bouncer also broke few noses,

Chucky become madman with red face like roses

I lost my dream job, I don’t blame drugs or booze

Soon or later I knew I will fucked up and loose

This situation wasn't cool

Chucky was like stranded fish in a tidal pool,

Goddammit, everyone left me stranded including Charlotte

I knew I couldn't trust that dirty harlot

Thanks to the Miranda Rights I got clumsy free lawyer

He looked in the police station like lousy Tom Sawyer

In short I failed and I have been jailed

P.s. Bouncer Chucky recommend you a 2 cool songs: Iron Maiden - Charlotte The Harlot, Megadeth - Crush 'Em.

I Am A Real American All The Way Cooler Than Batman (story part III)

Wacky Chucky’s monologue part 2: “One boring Sunday I was playing a classic game Golden Axe

Unexpectedly little ol' me was offered a tons of money via fax

If I became a bodyguard to Tom Metzger a leader of Ku Klux Klan

You see, little old me don’t deal with KKK Satanists

Besides that I don’t care for greenbacks

I am anti-capitalist and a great American

So hell yeah I said bloody no

Because I am neither the fucking racist nor Nazist”

Raúl Castro: “From Wild West to Budapest Wacky Chucky have tremendous reputation

He is an honest and modest bloke, his fiery persona is truly loved by Cuban and U.S. nation”

Wacky Chucky: “To conquer the world's greediness is my noble plan

Don't you dare to challenge me

Because I will grind you for pemmican

Last night intruder broke in my secluded den

In the style of robust Balrog

I gave knockout to the Spiderman

Old nemesis was whining like a hog

While I was laughing triumphantly like a stoned Sean Penn”

Che Guevara the narrator: “Propaganda wrongly shown Chucky as cuckoo with a soul from a psycho man

He ain’t a saint but Merciful God would forgive him his sins because

He is the beloved real American

Furthermore hero fights for the right thing

He would become a first U.S. King”

Ghost of Fulgencio Batista: “In theory there is maybe only one rifleman who can finally terminate Chuck with his 44 Magnum gun

It is a retired police inspector Dirty Harry AKA Harry Callahan

On the other hand legend said that Chucky became immortal after he eliminated double-tongued governor the Candyman”

Jessy Jess the narrator: “My advice for everyone: leave your gun and run away while still you can

No one is match for Wacky Chucky the real American”

Outro (Last words of Fidel Castro addressed to his people): “Please stop dreaming the fake American dream

Don’t be blind by dulcet demon-cratic regime”

Wacky Chucky: P.s. Enigmatic riddle to my detesters: do why me key too!

Macro Mondays theme zig zag

2 hand saws and a bit of imagination :-)

Working to a Brief-9, Karl Taylor Education.

From a rooftop in Boston, I heard a lot of birds squawking nearby and was lucky enough to use my limited zoom to catch the culprit, perched on a pergola in the distance!

Close-up of old handsaws hanging in a barn at the old abandoned Tyneham Village tynehamvillage.org/

I've been visiting Tested.com for a few months now and I thoroughly enjoy watching Adam Savage and company build all manner of geeky goodness. Imagine my surprise when I log on and find a video of Adam building Jason Allemann's breathtaking Sisyphus Kinetic Sculpture! I had a perma-grin. Until he said "Legos" and used a tiny handsaw on it. The Horror!

Long Story, Short. It inspired me to try my hand at building an automata. Initially, I was going to build a scene with a hapless jungle explorer being eaten by a crocodile. That one ended up being a bit too complex for my current skill level. So I settled for a much simpler design.

The model is powered by either the hand crank or the built-in motor. Just like Jason's, switching between the motor and the crank is as simple as sliding a gear out.

Eagle-eyed FOL's may have noticed that Patrick bears a striking resemblance to Jason's Sisyphus figure. That is because I'm rubbish at building characters. So I borrowed the design and made the needed modifications and aesthetic changes. Hopefully Jason won't mind!

Edit: As promised, here is the LDD file for the model. Enjoy!
