Shadow Face is an abstract portrait where light and darkness merge to give shape to a fleeting and poetic presence.

Cyanotype on watercolor paper.
Making things is such nice way to distract myself and to create beauty in my world. The creation of beauty, being both its birth mother and its midwife, is a part of the answer to some of life’s most existential questions. Plus, the process of making this piece, of cutting the prints and weaving them together, noticing the delightful texture of this paper between my fingers, all of that is calming and grounding. I hope that you’re able to embrace the things that soothe and give you hope during this strange time in our lives.
Toned cyanotype
Bleached in sodium carbonate for 3 seconds, washed in an acetic acid bath, tea toned for 20 minutes
4x5 contact print
The strange hat dates back to the Thirties while the 2 Vintage purses I used in this styling are from the Sixties with some intervoven chainmails & rodoid modular disks as a starting point. The stereoscopic photo is almost wholly painted on.

Photo Encaustic mixed media piece created inside an old cigarette case that I happened to find. The butterfly was a serendipitous find. She was lying on the sidewalk as I was walking home from the grocery store one afternoon. Each image in this box is 3” x 3.5”.

i watched him through the quiet pulse of the christmas market in valencia, where lights hung low and laughter flickered like fire. he sat alone, cloaked in a heavy hood and the evening’s chill, his brush dancing delicately across the canvas. the world blurred around him—soft hands and loud steps—but he stayed, focused, lost in his craft. each line he painted seemed carved from his soul, a quiet language of patience and purpose. the scarf curled at his neck like a tether to earth, but his mind drifted elsewhere, where tiny art could bloom unnoticed, untouched.
his hands told stories the crowd would never hear, and in the faint glow of lamps, i froze time.

Mixed media on paper
Magenta is sometimes called a tertiary colour, as it has to be mixed from one of the traditional primaries, red, with purple which is a secondary colour. However it is also a subtractive primary in the cmyk or cmy system that most modern printers use. It’s a vibrant colour which goes well with lots of competition in the frame. Enjoy, my friends!
